• Improve the business logic

  In my application,I have a feature like this: The user wants to add a new address to the database. Before adding the address, he needs to perform a search(using input parameters like country,city,street etc) and when the list comes up, he will manually check if the address he wants to add is present or not. If present, he will not add the address. Is there a way to make this process better. maybe somehow eliminate a step, avoid need for manual verification etc.

  Amikor HA (High Availability - Magas Rendelkezésre Állás) megoldásokról beszélünk, általában elsoként a klaszterek, redundáns megoldások jutnak eszünkbe. Pedig nem csak a hardver hibákra kell gondolni, hanem a tervezett leállásokkal is érdemes foglalkozni. Az egyik talán legkevésbé megoldott probléma az, ha egy alkalmazás verzió váltást kell végrehajtani úgy, hogy közben változik az adatstruktúra is. Ez nyilván azt eredményezi, hogy le kell állítani az adatbázist is, és az átszervezéseket, akár adat átalakításokkal együtt végre kell hajtani. De a legnagyobb probléma talán az, hogy amennyiben valami rosszul sül el, és vissza kell állni a kiinduló állapotra, akkor az adatbázis mentést is vissza kell tölteni, hiszen átmenetileg minden felhasználó aki épp használatba vette az új alkalmazás verziót már egy új adatstruktúrába kezdett dolgozni. Az Oracle Database Online Application Upgrade képessége, vagy pontosabb nevén az Edition Based Redefinition pontosan ezt a problémát célozza meg. Az Edition Based Redefinition 3 alap objektummal muködik, ezek: edition, editioning view és crossedition trigger. Az edition egy új nonschema objektum típus. 11gR2 verziótól minden adatbázis rendelkezik legalább egy edition-nel, melynek neve Ora$Base. Minden új edition egy már létezo gyermeke kell, hogy legyen. Amikor kapcsolódunk az adatbázishoz, meghatározható, hogy melyik edition-höz kapcsolódjunk. Kizárólag nézetek, szinonímák és PL/SQL ojektum típusoknak lehet több edíciója (ezek metadat típusú objektumok, nem tartalmaznak adatokat). Azok az objektumok, melyek több edícióval rendelkeznek egyedileg csak úgy azonosíthatók, ha az owner, name, namespace mellett az edition-t is megnevezzük. Azaz két vagy több példánya is létezhet egy adatbázison belül ugyanazzal az owner, name és namespace azonosítókkal rendelkezo objektumnak, amennyiben használjuk az edition-based redefinition-t. Egy új objektum típus, az editioning view is edicionálható. Mivel a fizikai tábla nem edicionálható (elkerülendo az adatok többszörös tárolását és teljesítmény gondokat), ezért az editioning view feladata egy adott tábla egyszeru leképezése egy nézet formájában, ami már több edition-ben is létezhet, és képes elfedni a tábla módosításait. Amennyiben a tábla módosítások olyan táblákat érintenek, amelyek tartalmát  az alkalmazás felhasználók módosítják, szükség van olyan triggerekre, amelyek az egyes editioning view-k között a módosításokat karbantartják. Ezek a crossedition triggerek. Természetesen ahhoz, hogy az online application upgrade muködjön, minden érintett tábla elé el kell készíteni az editioning nézetet és a megfelelo crossedition triggereket. Ezeket használva az alkalmazás két vagy több különbözo verzió képes ugyanazon adatbázison párhuzamosan futni, és ha megtörtént a verzióváltás, akkor még mindig egyszeru visszaállni a régi verzióra egészen addig, amíg a régi edition eldobásra nem kerül. • Everything turning black when pitching down

  Just a quick questions about something that's occurring in my world. Every time I pitch my camera downward, everything starts turning black, and if I pitch upward, everything sort of intensifies. I'm multiplying my normals by the normal matrix in the shader, and I'm multiplying my lights direction by the model view matrix. If I leave the normal and light dir in world space everything ends up fine. I thought putting them both in view space would not cause those weird things to happen?

  It's the week of the NRF Big Show and all eyes in the retail industry are on New York. The Big Apple is famous for Big Retail -with a proliferation of incredibly iconic stores. The environment is exciting and familiar even to people visiting this small island for the first time. Most of us have travelled down Fifth Avenue watching movies and TV even if we have never set foot on American soil. I find it one of the most exciting retail cities in the world and I am thrilled this year to be here with so many of Oracle's International retail customers who are joining us for the Retail Exchange. The Oracle program brings retailers from all over the planet together to share ideas and be inspired by New York retail and the NRF event. The show celebrates its 100th year in 2011 and New York itself has been recognized globally as the capital of innovative retail for just as long.  Fifth Avenue is where many global brands have placed their flagship stores, and businesses are in constant competition to set themselves apart from their competitors - both in the store and from the street.  These flag ship retail destinations present what today's customers are finding most exciting and delightful about retail. For the tourist market, they may only visit these stores once, but the impression that a trip to a flagship store leaves with a customer can last a lifetime.  One of the stores that is currently turning heads on Fifth Avenue is Hollister, sister brand to Abercrombie and Fitch, which has filled its shop front with a massive live video (and audio) feed of surfers on the beach in California.  To complete the effect, they also have troughs of water in front of the video screens to bring the sea to the street.  And this isn't the only kind of surfing that retailers are considering today and multi-channel retail is a hot topic that all of the retailers joining the Retail Exchange are considering.   The rest of the world looks to the brands along Fifth Avenue for inspiration - how they take advantage of new opportunities, how they set themselves apart from their competitors and how they keep their products fresh and desirable. • Chrome mistakenly downloads localhost/wordpress pages, but Firefox doesn't

  I have Wordpress installed at http://localhost/wordpress When I try and view a page in Chrome, it downloads the PHP file rather than showing the page. When I view in Firefox, everything works fine. when I create localhost/test.php containing simply <?php echo "hello world" ?> it displays in both browsers. Any ideas on what might be wrong? $ dpkg -l | grep apache outputs: apache2, apache2-mpm-prefork, apache2-utils, apache2.2-bin, apache2.2-common, libapache2-mod-php5

  Word on the street is that "gtk-enable-mnemonics" has been deprecated since version 3.10, and I am not at all sure how to get my application to display mnemonics. They will only display if I press the alt key. • Should I use JavaFx properties?

  I'm usually very careful to keep my Model, View, and Controller code separate. The thing is JavaFx properties are so convenient to bind them all together. The issue is that it makes my entire code design dependent on JavaFx, which I feel I should not being doing. I should be able to change the view without changing too much of the model and controller. So should I ignore the convenience of JavaFx properties, or should I embrace them and the fact that it reduces my codes flexibility.

• Question about BoundingSpheres and Ray intersections

  I'm working on a XNA project (not really a game) and I'm having some trouble with picking algorithm. I have a few types of 3D models that I draw to the screen, and one of them is a switch. So I'm trying to make a picking algorithm that would enable the user to click on the switch and that would trigger some other function. The problem is that the BoundingSphere.Intersect() method always returns null as result. For every object marked as switch (I use simple numbers to determine which object is to be drawn), a BoundingSphere is created (center is on the coordinates of the 3D object, and the diameter is always the same), and added to the list. The objects are drawn normally (and spheres.Count is not 0), I can see them on the screen, but the Window title always says "Empty" (of course this is just for testing purposes, I will add the real function when I get positive results) meaning that there is no intersection between the ControlRay and any of the bounding spheres. I think that my basic matrices (world, view and projection) are making some problems, but I cant figure out what. Please help.

The problem that I have is that the sever is on my laptop and every time I log off or close my laptop, they are losing connection to the DB and can not add or view any more. It seems that the port is closed or something. Is there a way to keep the port and their connection established all the time even when I'm logging out?

• Strategy to use two different measurement systems in software

  I have an application that needs to accept and output values in both US Custom Units and Metric system. Right now the conversion and input and output is a mess. You can only enter in US system, but you can choose the output to be US or Metric, and the code to do the conversions is everywhere. So I want to organize this and put together some simple rules. So I came up with this: Rules user can enter values in either US or Metric, and User Interface will take care of marking this properly All units internally will be stored as US, since the majority of the system already has most of the data stored like that and depends on this. It shouldn't matter I suppose as long as you don't mix unit. All output will be in US or Metric, depending on user selection/choice/preference. In theory this sounds great and seems like a solution. However, one little problem I came across is this: There is some data stored in code or in the database that already returns data like this: 4 x 13/16" screws, which means "four times screws". I need the to be in either US or Metric. Where exactly do I put the conversion code for doing the conversion for this unit? The above already mixing presentation and data, but the data for the field I need to populate is that whole string. I can certainly split it up into the number 4, the 13/16", and the " x " and the " screws", but the question remains... where do I put the conversion code? Different Locations for Conversion Routines 1) Right now the string is in a class where it's produced. I can put conversion code right into that class and it may be a good solution. Except then, I want to be consistent so I will be putting conversion procedures everywhere in the code at-data-source, or right after reading it from the database. The problem though is I think that my code will have to deal with two systems, all throughout the codebase after this, should I do this. 2) According to the rules, my idea was to put it in the view script, aka last change to modify it before it is shown to the user. And it may be the right thing to do, but then it strikes me it may not always be the best solution. (First, it complicates the view script a tad, second, I need to do more work on the data side to split things up more, or do extra parsing, such as in my case above). 3) Another solution is to do this somewhere in the data prep step before the view, aka somewhere in the middle, before the view, but after the data-source. This strikes me as messy and that could be the reason why my codebase is in such a mess right now. It seems that there is no best solution. What do I do?
