• Trying to right click on code in VS2008 causes lockup.

  Working on a Win32 DLL using Visual Studio 2008 SP1 and, since yesterday, whenever I try to right click on code, to go to a variable definition for example, VS completely locks up and I have to manually kill the process. To make it even weirder, whenever this happens the devenv.exe process uses exactly 25% of the CPU. And I mean exactly, never 24%, never 26%, always 25% Also, I've run ProcMon to see if devenv is actually doing something, but it's doing absolutely nothing external of the process. No disk, network, registry access. Nothing. This is getting really aggravating because I have a large code base to deal with and the only other way of jumping to the definition is to first search for it. Has anyone run into a similar issue? And, better yet, know a fix?

• Looking for a syntactic shortcut for accessing dictionaries

  I have an abstract base class that holds a Dictionary. I'd like inherited classes to be able to access the dictionary fields using a convenient syntax. Currently I have lots of code like this: string temp; int val; if (this.Fields.TryGetValue("Key", out temp)) { if (int.TryParse(temp, out val)) { // do something with val... } } Obviously I can wrap this in utility functions but I'd like to have a cool, convenient syntax for accessing the dictionary fields where I can simply say something like: int result = @Key; Is there any way to do something like this in C# (3.5)?

• Java 2D clip area to shape

  I'm quite new to graphics in java and I'm trying to create a shape that clips to the bottom of another shape. Here is an example of what I'm trying to achieve: Where the white line at the base of the shape is the sort of clipped within the round edges. The current way I am doing this is like so: g2.setColor(gray); Shape shape = getShape(); //round rectangle g2.fill(shape); Rectangle rect = new Rectangle(shape.getBounds().x, shape.getBounds().y, width, height - 3); Area area = new Area(shape); area.subtract(new Area(rect)); g2.setColor(white); g2.fill(area); I'm still experimenting with the clip methods but I can't seem to get it right. Is this current method ok (performance wise, since the component repaints quite often) or is there a more efficient way? Thanks in advance.

I changed it to one color.. But its showing some default color. There is no help in google about how to change tinymce scrollbar color. Please help me..thnaks in advance

• Succinct code over verbose?

  With C# becoming more and more declarative and becoming the new Swiss army knife of Programming. Is it better to be succinct thus reducing the actual code base, or long winded but verbose. Is there a performance issue with succinct or does being succinct improve performance because your putting more of your code in the hands of the compiler. (LINQ being an example when used correctly). I know that verbosity should override succinct where code would become less readable, but is this a good idea when your style could affect the performance.

  I have this in lib/tasks/foo.rake: Rake::Task["assets:precompile"].enhance do print ">>>>>>>> hello from precompile" end Rake::Task["assets:precompile:nondigest"].enhance do print ">>>>>>>> hello from precompile:nondigest" end When I run rake assets:precompile locally, both messages are printed. When I push to heroku, only the nondigest message is printed. However, according to the buildpack, the push is executing the exact same command as I am locally. Why does the enhancement to the base assets:precompile case not work on heroku but does work locally?

• Diff tool that can compare sub-sections of files

  I'm looking for a diff tool that will allow me to compare just a sub-section of a file with a section of another file, or even of itself. Preferably eclipse based but will take all suggestions. Yes I know I can copy out the two sections into different files and compare those, but that is very tedious when you are trying to do a large amount of refactoring. Basically I'm trying to remove as much duplicated code as possible from a code base that is suffering from a great deal of ctrl-V 'inheritance' ;-) However the pasted parts have evolved apart a little over time.

I have narrowed it all down to the fact that my signature-generation code has an error of some sort; what it is I have no idea. • How can I modify input before model binding in asp.net mvc?

  How can I intercept submitted form input and modify it before it is bound to my model? For example, if I wanted to trim the whitespace from all text. • Attachment_fu: can't disable :partition option

  I'm trying to use the Attachment_Fu plugin in a Rails project, and want to customize the paths where uploaded files are saved. The documentation shows this option: :partition # Whether to partiton files in directories like /0000/0001/image.jpg. Default is true. (The 0001 part is an ID from a table.) I don't want that, so I set the partition option to false, like so: class Photo < ActiveRecord::Base has_attachment :content_type => :image, :storage => :file_system, :max_size => 500.kilobytes, :resize_to => '320x200', :thumbnails => {:thumb => '100x100>' }, :partition => false validates_as_attachment end ...but the :partition => false option has no effect. Has anybody else encountered this problem? How did you fix it?

[self.audioPlayer release]; Where do I go from here? Nils are used in a similar fashion throughout the code (and may cause similar problems) - is there a safe way to remove them? I'm new to memory management - how can I discern proper nil usage from bad nil usage?

  I am trying to get my head around annotation based mappings and I am having some trouble mapping requests directly to jsp. Do all request have to go through a controller? Is it possible to make it just go to a jsp without declaring a RequestMapping for GET? I am using a InternalResourceViewResolver. • Creating a new project from a project skeleton using git

  In order to get a new django project up and running faster, I'd like to maintain a separate "project skeleton" on which I base all my new projects. It would be great if, as I improved the skeleton, I could bring those improvements into my active projects. How can I accomplish this with git? So, maybe in my remote git repository machine I would have 1 repo for each project and one for the skeleton? proj-A-repo proj-B-repo skeleton-repo If I want to create a new proj-C locally based on the skeleton, then push my local changes up to the remote server in a new repo called proj-C-repo, how might I do this? I've read through quite a bit of git documentation, but I'm confused about how to go about this. Do I need to clone the skeleton, or create an empty repo and then track a remote branch, or something else?

  I'm looking for a very quick way to generate an alphanumeric unique id for a primary key in a table.   I'm working with a very large code base and I find it useful to be selective about which directories are included for use with Exuberant Ctags. The --exclude option works well to eliminate individual file and directory names (with globing wildcards), but I can't figure out how to get it to exclude path patterns containing more than one directory. For example, I may want to exclude a directory tests, but only when processing thirdparty\tests (under Windows). The problem is if I just use --exclude=tests I exclude too many directories, including a test directory in the code I'm actively working on. Here are some things I've tried: --exclude=thirdparty\tests --exclude=thirdparty\\tests --exclude=*\thirdparty\tests --exclude=*\\thirdparty\\tests --exclude=thirdparty/tests Ctags silently ignores all these as evidenced by an examination of the tags file. How can I exclude a directory only when it is preceded by a given parent directory?

• Apache 2.2 / Win7 - slow or not responsive

  My configuration - Windows 7 x64, Php 5.3, Apache 2.2.15, latest Mysql. When loading pages from localhost, the response time shown by firebug is more 530ms for the main 'index.php' file, sometimes the connection is reset. It's painfully slow. I googled the problem and found a workaround - switch off and on again a win service called BFE - base filtering engine. Then everything works like a lightning but xdebug doesn't work in netbeans. Why is this response time so long? Can you think of any other solution than BFE toggling? joey33

  I have a data base with Price_old like: Date --- Hour --- Price _____________________________ Jan 1 --- 1 --- $3.0 Jan 1 --- 2 --- $3.1 Jan 1 --- 3 --- $3.3 Jan 1 --- 4 --- $3.15 Jan 2 --- 1 --- $2.95 Jan 2 --- 2 --- $3.2 Jan 2 --- 3 --- $3.05 What I then have is a spreadsheet, with the same structure, that I will be reading into a datatable, I'll call the new datatable Price_New, note that price new may not have all the same date/hours as Price_Old So, I end up with 2 datatables, Price_Old, and Price_New, and what I need to do is update Price_old with the new prices in Price_New, and then commit those new prices to the Database. I am kinda new to LINQ (about 30 mins of experience) and would really appreciate if someone could give me a pointer or two on whether or not this is doing in LINQ and what the best method would be. • Can't register 32bit dll under 64bit windows

  Hi guys. I try to create a COM object from my JS script like this: function main() { var MyApplication = new ActiveXObject("Base.Application"); } main(); I am getting error: "Automation server can't create object". This error occurs on Windows 2003 64 bit. The dll is 32 bit and it works fine on 32 bit systems. I've tried both versions of Regsvr32.exe on the 64 bit system and both versions told me that dll registered succesfully. Unfortunatelly the error message does not tell me why it can not create object. The reason is unknown, it might be that it can't create object because it is still not registered or it might be something totally different... I've also add full permisions to this dll. I don't know what else I can do, do you have any ideas?
