  • How to use the vtable to determine class type

    - by Alex Silverman
    I was recently on an interview for a position where C/C++ is the primary language and during one question I was told that it's possible to use the vtable to determine which class in a hierarchy a base pointer actually stores. So if, for example you have class A { public: A() {} virtual ~A() {} virtual void method1() {} }; class B : public A { public: B() {} virtual ~B() {} virtual void method1() {} }; and you instantiate A * pFoo = new B(), is it indeed possible to use the vtable to determine whether pFoo contains a pointer to an instance of A or B?

  • ASP.NET MVC: What is the correct way to redirect to pages/actions in MVC?

    - by Mark Redman
    I am fairly new to MVC but not sure exactly which Redirect... replaces the standard redirect used in WebForms ie the standard Response.Redirect() For instance, I need to redirect to other pages in a couple of scenarios: 1) WHen the user logs out (Forms signout in Action) I want to redirect to a login page 2) In a Controller or base Controller event eg Initialze, I want to redirect to another page (AbsoluteRootUrl + Controller + Action) It seems that multiple redirects get called in some cases which causes errors, something to do with the fact a page is already being redirected? How can cancel the current request and just redirect?

  • Developing a jQuery plugin that returns a given object, instead of jQuery object itself!

    - by mehdi5275
    Hi, Consider the following base code: (function($) { $.fn.myPlugin = function(settings) { return this.each(function() { //whatever }); }; }); The plugin returns a jQuery object. The question is how am I supposed to write a plugin that returns a custom object so that I can do something like this: var api = $('div.myelement').myPlugin(); api.onMyEventName(function(e, whateverParam) { //whatever }); It'd be highly appreciated if you could write some lines of code that describes me how to do that, how to call the onMyEventName function on a custom api object... Thanks.

  • Why does derivative trading position always require C++ knowledge?

    - by Jeffrey
    I’ve never worked in trading environment before and I was curious to see that few of the trading houses seem to use C# but most of them do heavily rely on C++. Why is it? Is it because C++ is better performance wise? Is it because of legacy code base? Is it because cross platform issue? What about dynamic languages (ruby, python)? Are they too slow for this kind of work in terms of performance? Updated: If realibility and performance are important would "Erlang" be the "next big thing" in trading platform?

  • changing validation group of button with javascript on client side

    - by haansi
    hi, In a form I have multiple group of controls which are grouped using validation group property. I want to assign validation group to asp.Button dynamically on client side using javascript on the base of item selected in drop down list. Here is JavaScript which I am using, but it is not working. It shows validation group undefined but actually a default group is defined. Please advice me. thanks <script type="text/JavaScript"> function NextClicked() { var _ddlStatus = document.getElementById("<%=ddl.ClientID%>"); var _selectedIndex = _ddlStatus.selectedIndex; var _btn = document.getElementById("<%=btnNext.ClientID%>"); alert(_btn.ValidationGroup); // here in messge it shows undefiend, yet I have defiend a group in button as default. if (_selectedIndex == 1) { _btn.ValidationGroup = "G1"; } else if (_selectedIndex == 2) { _btn.ValidationGroup = "G2"; } }

  • C# - Custom Attributes - Setting an attribute property to the type of the decorated class.

    - by cmaduro
    Is it possible to get the decorated class' type inside of the custom attribute's class? For example: [MetadataAttribute] [AttributeUsage(AttributeTargets.Class | AttributeTargets.Property, AllowMultiple = false)] public class ViewAttribute : ExportAttribute { public object TargetRegion { get; set; } public Type ViewModel { get; set; } public Type Module { get; set; } public ViewAttribute() : base(typeof(UserControl)) { Module = GetDecoratedClassType(); //I need this method } } In the following example GetDecoratedClassType() would return HomeView [View] HomeView MyHomeView { get; set; }

  • Problem with connectionstring and entityframework

    - by Masna
    Hello, I have a database (sql 2008 mdf file), a class library project with an edmx file, created with the wizard. So the connection string is also made by the wizard. This project is on a teamfoundation server. I can use all the wizard made objects when coding. But when i run the program and I try to make an entityContainerName, the program crashes and gives this error: The specified named connection is either not found in the configuration, not intended to be used with the EntityClient provider, or not valid. on this line: public TestEntities() : base("name=TestEntities", "TestEntities") How can I solve this problem or what am I doing wrong?

  • Can I detect unused extra parameters passed to javascript methods?

    - by Pablojim
    In Javascript I can call any method with more than the necessary amount of parameters and the extra parameters are silently ignored. e.g. letters = ['a','b','c'] //correct letters.indexOf('a') //This also works without error or warning letters.indexOf('a', "blah", "ignore me", 38) Are there ways to detect cases where this occurs? My motivation is that in my experience cases where this occurs are usually bugs. Identification of these by code analysis or at runtime would help track these errors down. These cases are especially prevalent where people are expecting alterations to base types which may not have occurred. Logging a warning where this happens e.g. Date.parse('02--12--2012', 'dd--MM--YYYY') Notes: To be clear I would like a solution that doesn't involve me sprinkling checks all over my code and other peoples' code.

  • Embeddable unit testing framework for mixed Windows app

    - by Andy Dent
    I want to test portions of a very complex app which includes both a major native Windows component and a substantial WPF GUI. Due to complexities I can't detail, it is impossible to run the native portion independently nor can I isolate the areas I want to test (spare me the lectures, we're talking a huge legacy code base and we do have refactoring plans). I'm looking for a unit test kit I can invoke on the native side but must be able to run with the app launched with the managed portion initialised. That seems to rule out the run executable feature of the cfix Windows unit test kit. I really like their philosophy, like WinUnit, of using DLL compilation as a way to add the reflective capabilities missing in C++ and gain a more NUnit-like experience. Ideally, I want something like WinUnit running within the application code and generating an HTML report. I'm trying to introduce more TDD and having things as lean as possible is important.

  • Pre-packaged Rails applications

    - by Craig
    Seems like most Rails applications have similar 'base' functionality. As such, it seems that there would be value in having pre-build Rails applications at various functionality points such as: basic User model with authentication using Authlogic #1 + openid integration #2 + authorization using declarative_authorization #3 + Administration module #4 + a Profile model Themes (useful stylesheets and such) Friendship model Geocoding ... In addition to the basic MVC stuff, these applications would include: testing harnesses seed data git support One could choose start from any of these functionality points. Other than the sample application that are available with the various gems/plugins, are there projects such as these? If not, I would certainly be willing to contribute what I have.

  • What is Ruby's double-colon (::) all about?

    - by Meltemi
    I'd probably be able to answer this for myself if "::" wasn't so hard to Google. Didn't see anything on SO so thought I'd try my luck. What is this double-colon :: all about? I see it everywhere in Rails: class User < ActiveRecord::Base or… ActionController::Routing::Routes.draw do |map| I found a definition from this guy: The :: is a unary operator that allows: constants, instance methods and class methods defined within a class or module, to be accessed from anywhere outside the class or module. but that just leads to more questions. What good is scope (private, protected) if you can just use :: to expose anything?

  • Modular HTML in Adobe AIR? Is It Possible?

    - by Greg Bulmash
    When I write HTML with a PHP backend, I usually have a single header file and a single footer file with some PHP variables in them. The base skeleton for every page calls the header, contains the body content, and then calls the footer. That way, if I want to make changes to the header sitewide, I change one file. I'm working on developing the UI in my first Adobe AIR app and I'm wondering if there's some way to include such files in an HTML based page template there. Obviously, with the file read/write abilities in AIR, I can write a Javascript routine to pull data from a header file, parse it, and inject it into a placeholder. It just seems like such a kludge. I'm thinking there's gotta be some simple way to import a block of HTML into a page without an iFrame or complex post-processor. Something like a PHP include statement or perhaps the old Server Side Includes. Any methods you guys can recommend?

  • Python preprocessing imports

    - by FiloSottile
    I am managing a quite large python code base (2000 lines) that I want anyway to be available as a single runnable python script. So I am searching for a method or a tool to merge a development folder, made of different python files into a single running script. The thing/method I am searching for should take code split into different files, maybe with a starting __init___.py file that contains the imports and merge it into a single, big script. Much like a preprocessor. Best if a near-native way, better if I can anyway run from the dev folder. I have already checked out pypp and pypreprocessor but they don't seem to take the point. Something like a strange use of __import__() or maybe a bunch of from foo import * replaced by the preprocessor with the code? Obviously I only want to merge my directory and not common libraries.

  • Entity Framework 4.1 auto generate with DbContext when creating ADO.NET Entity Data Model

    - by smudgedlens
    I would like to work with DbContext instead of ObjectContext. I updated EF so now I have the DbContext, but I want to generate my strongly-typed context based on the DbContext and not the ObjectContext. When I add new ADO.NET Entity Data Model, it is still based on the ObjectContext. Is it not possible to have it base off of DbContext in Visual Studio 2010 with EF 4.1? UPDATE: Okay, I followed the directions in this link and was able to generate the DbContext template objects. However, now it is saying there is ambiguity between the template entities and the entities in my .edmx file. How do I resovle this? Do I blow away the ones in the .edmx file?

  • Jquery Resizable Image size issue

    - by alex
    Image size is not automatically detected when using jquery resizable. Both Firefox and IE displays the image much smaller, and chrome show nothing at all. I can't seem to find a direct answer to this issue. How can this be fixed. <link rel="stylesheet" href="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8.7/themes/base/jquery-ui.css" type="text/css" media="all"> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.4/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"> </script> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8.7/jquery-ui.min.js" type="text/javascript"> </script> <img src="http://www.carsyouwilldrive.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/futurecar1.jpg"> <script type="text/javascript"> $("img").resizable(); </script>

  • How would you create a string of all UTF-8 characters? [PHP]

    - by Xeoncross
    There are many ways to represent the +1 million UTF-8 characters. Take the latin capital "A" with macron (A). This is unicode code point U+0100, hex number 0xc4 0x80, decimal number 196 128, and binary 11000100 10000000. I would like to create a collection of the first 65,535 UTF-8 characters for use in testing applications. These are all unicode characters up to code point U+FFFF (byte3). Is it possible to do something like a for($x=0) loop and then convert the resulting decimal to another base (like hex) which would allow the creation of the matching unicode character? I can create the value A using something like this: $char = "\xc4\x80"; // or $char = chr(196).chr(128); However, I am not sure how to turn this into an automated process. // fail! $char = "\x". dechex($a). "\x". dexhex($$b);

  • Why does OSX document atoi/atof as not being threadsafe?

    - by Larry Gritz
    I understand that strtol and strtof are preferred to atoi/atof, since the former detect errors, and also strtol is much more flexible than atoi when it comes to non-base-10. But I'm still curious about something: 'man atoi' (or atof) on OS X (though not on Linux!) mentions that atoi/atof are not threadsafe. I frankly have a hard time imagining a possible implementation of atoi or atof that would not be threadsafe. Does anybody know why the man page says this? Are these functions actually unsafe on OS X or any other platform? And if they are, why on earth wouldn't the library just define atoi in terms of strtol, and therefore be safe?

  • has_many through and partials

    - by user307428
    I have a User model, a Post model, and an Interest model. Using User has_many posts through interests Using User has_many interests Using Post has_many users through interests Using Post has_many interests Using Interest belongs to Post Using Interest belongs to User Application_Controller is as follows: class ApplicationController < ActionController::Base before_filter :login_from_cookie before_filter :find_user_interests helper :all # include all helpers, all the time session :session_key = '_blah_session' include AuthenticatedSystem def find_user_interests @user_interests = current_user ? current_user.interests : [] true end Application.html.erb has as follows: <%= render :partial = "users/interests", :object = @user_interests % _interests.html.erb partial is as follows: ul <% unless current_user.nil? then -% <% @user_interests.each do |interest| -% li<%= interest.post.title %/li <% end % <% end -% /ul Given all this when I at localhost:3000/posts/1 my partial shows up fine, but when in localhost:3000/posts I get an error "undefined method `title' for nil:NilClass" thus an error in the line li<%= interest.post.title %/li shown above in the _interests.html.erb partial. What the heck would be the issue? TIA end

  • [SEO] sitemap.xml What is the precision of the priority field?

    - by Christoph
    Unfortunately the specification does not tell anything about precision. The xml scheme definition states that it is of the type xsd:decimal: <xsd:restriction base="xsd:decimal"> <xsd:minInclusive value="0.0"/> <xsd:maxInclusive value="1.0"/> </xsd:restriction> I have a sitemap generator that uses up to 10 positions after decimal point. Where often only the last few positions differ. These numbers are perfectly right according to the xsd, but yet i found some pages(3,4) that state that only 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, .., 1.0 are valid values. How will the search engines react to such a sitemap? Will some just round the value? I know that it is unlikely that someone can provide an answer to that question, unless he works for that search engine, but i think experiences will also do.

  • Wordpress htaccess in root overriding htaccess in subdomain. Subdomain app not working now.

    - by revive
    Hello, We have a WP install in the root of our server and its running great.. but, we just installed another app in a subdomain. Now, I can view the index.php of that app but cannot do anything with it.. the htaccess rules in the root (from WP base install) are effecting the requests. So, how to I eliminate the WP htaccess file from effecting the subdomain? Here is the htaccess contents for the root (WP install): <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine On # BEGIN WordPress RewriteBase / RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule . /index.php [L] # END WordPress </IfModule> And for the htaccess in the subdomain: RewriteEngine on RewriteCond $1 !^(index\.php|css|stylesheets|js|images|user_guide|favicon\.ico|robots\.txt) RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /index.php/$1 [L] I've search everywhere online and tried a couple samples I found.. nothing has worked. Any help is greatly appreciated ! Thanks

  • What is Perl doing with this argument to push in this case?

    - by Morinar
    I just saw some code in our code base (and it's OLD code, as in Perl 3 or Perl 4 days) that looks like this (I'm simplifying greatly): my @array; push( array, $some_scalar ); Notice that the array in the push() doesn't have an @. I would assume that the code behind push knows that the first argument is supposed to be array so grabs the array from the array typeglob. Is that more or less it? If Perl is able to do that without problem, why would you need to include the @ at all?

  • Inheritance in XML Schema definition (XSD) for Java objects

    - by bguiz
    Hi, I need to create an XML schema definition (XSD) that describes Java objects. I was wondering how to do this when the objects in question inherit from a common base class with a type parameter. public abstract class Rule<T> { ... } public abstract class TimeRule extends Rule<XTime> { ... } public abstract class LocationRule extends Rule<Location> { ... } public abstract class IntRule extends Rule<Integer> { ... } .... (where XTime and Location are custom classes define elsewhere) How would I go about constructing an XSD that such that I can have XML nodes that represent each of the subclasses of Rule<T> - without the XSD for each of them repeating their common contents? Thank you!

  • Available options for hosting FTP server in .NET application

    - by duane
    I need to implement an FTP service inside my .NET application (running as a Windows Service) and have not had much luck finding good/current source code or vendors. Ideally it needs to be able to respond to the basic FTP Protocol and accept the data stream from an upload via a stream, enabling me to process the data as it is being received (think on the fly hashing). I need to be able to integrate it into my service because it will stack on top of our current code base with an existing custom TCP/IP communication protocol. I don't want to write (and then spend time debugging and performance testing) my own protocol, or implementation. I have already found plenty of ftp client implementations, I just need an acceptable server solution.

  • undefined reference to static member variable

    - by Max
    Hi. I have this class that has a static member. it is also a base class for several other classes in my program. Here's its header file: #ifndef YARL_OBJECT_HPP #define YARL_OBJECT_HPP namespace yarlObject { class YarlObject { // Member Variables private: static int nextID; // keeps track of the next ID number to be used int ID; // the identifier for a specific object // Member Functions public: YarlObject(): ID(++nextID) {} virtual ~YarlObject() {} int getID() const {return ID;} }; } #endif and here's its implementation file. #include "YarlObject.hpp" namespace yarlObject { int YarlObject::nextID = 0; } I'm using g++, and it returns three undefined reference to 'yarlObject::YarlObject::nextID linker errors. If I change the ++nextID phrase in the constructor to just nextID, then I only get one error, and if I change it to 1, then it links correctly. I imagine it's something simple, but what's going on?

  • LinkButton child controls render

    - by Alex
    Hi. I want to have a LinkButton that adds 'span' tag around the text. protected override void Render(HtmlTextWriter writer) { Text = String.Concat("<span>", Text, "</span>"); base.Render(writer); } It's works perfectly, but only if I add text like this: <cc:TestLinkButton ID="TestLinkButton" runat="server" Text="SomeText"> </cc:TestLinkButton> If I want to add some image I will write something like this: <cc:TestLinkButton ID="LinkButton1" runat="server"> <asp:Image ID="Image1" runat="server" ImageUrl="~/Images/icon_holiday.png" BorderWidth="0" /> SomeText </cc:TestLinkButton> In this case Text property will be empty, because actualy "SomeText" is child control property. So question is is how to add tag around child controls.
