  • Why can't I make my parameter like this?

    - by mystify
    - (void)setPropertyValue:(const *void)inValue forID:(UInt32)propertyID { } The compiler doesn't like the const *void, for some reason. When I have that, it says: error: expected ')' before 'void' When I make the parameter like (UInt32)foo there is no problem. Does const *void only work in functions? I need a parameter which can be a "pointer to anything" like UInt32, Float64, etc.

  • Help moving multiple images at once with touches

    - by daveMac
    Here is my problem: I am trying to move a puzzle piece around the screen and then connect to the other piece if they are in close proximity. I have achieved this, though it is perhaps a little odd the way I did. My problem though is that once they have connected, I can't figure out how to move them as one image, instead of two separate entities. I would really appreciate any help or suggestions. Here is a sample of what I have been doing: (void)touchesMovedNSSet *)touches withEventUIEvent *)event{ UITouch *touch = [touches anyObject]; [self dispatchTouchEvent:[touch view] toPosition:[touch locationInView:self.view]]; } -(void)dispatchTouchEventUIView *)theView toPositionCGPoint)position{ if ((CGRectContainsPoint([picture frame], position))) { picture.center = position; } if (CGRectContainsPoint([picture2 frame], position)) { picture2.center = position; } }

  • Return NSString from a recursive function

    - by Dave
    Hi, I have a recursive function that is designed to take parse a tree and store all the values of the tree nodes in an NSString. Is the algorithm below correct? NSString* finalString = [self parseTree:rootNode string:@""]; -(NSString*)parseTree:(Node*)currentNode string:(NSMutableString*)myString { [myString appendText:currentNode.value]; for(int i=0;i<[currentNode.children length];i++){ return [self parseTree:[currentNode.children] objectAtIndex:i] string:myString]; } }

  • Retrieving Relationships from within two arrays of pointers

    - by DanF
    In a portion of a program I'm working on, I need to count all the times each person has worked on projects with each other person. Let's say we have "Employee" entities and "Session" entities. In each session, there are four project types, "A", "B", "C", & "D", each a many-to-many relationship to Employees. I'm making a loop to systematically review every person a selected person has worked with. First, I put all their project types in a single array, so it's easier to loop through, but by the time I ask the last nested Project for its Employee members, I get an "unrecognized selector" error. IBOutlet NSArrayController * list; int x; for(x = 0; x < [list count]; x++){ NSArray *A = [[list objectAtIndex:x] valueForKey:@"projectAs"]; NSArray *A = [[list objectAtIndex:x] valueForKey:@"projectBs"]; NSArray *A = [[list objectAtIndex:x] valueForKey:@"projectCs"]; NSArray *A = [[list objectAtIndex:x] valueForKey:@"projectDs"]; NSArray *masterList = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects: projectAs, projectBs, projectCs, projectDs, nil]; int y; for(y = 0; y < [masterList count]; y++){ int z; for(z = 0; z < [[masterlist objectAtIndex:y] count]; z++){ //And now to make an Array of this employee's partners on the selected object, to run comparisons on. //I also have an array of keys for each session's teams, so that's what I'm referencing here: NSArray * thisTeam = [list objectAtIndex:y] objectAtIndex:z] valueForKey:projectKey]; This throws an exception... namely, -[_NSFaultingMutableSet objectAtIndex:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance What's wrong with that last Array creation?

  • (iphone) How to access CGRect member variable inside c++ class?

    - by Eugene
    i have a c++ class with CGrect variable and i'm getting segfault when trying to access it. class Parent { //with some virtual functions/dtors }; class Child { public: void SetRect(CGRect rect) { mRect = rect; } CGRect GetRect() { return mRect; } int GetIndex() { return mIndex; } private: CGRect mRect; int mIndex; }; i'm doing CGRect rect = childPtr->GetRect(); from object c code and it segfaults. I printed *childPtr just before the call and rect looks fine with intended data value. int index = childPtr->GetIndex(); from same object c code(*.mm), works fine though. Any idea why I'm getting segfaults? Thank you edit - It's got something to do with virtual functions. (gdb) p singlePuzzlePiece-GetRect() Program received signal EXC_BAD_ACCESS, Could not access memory. Reason: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at address: 0x00000001 0x00000001 in ?? () Cannot access memory at address 0x1 The program being debugged was signaled while in a function called from GDB. GDB remains in the frame where the signal was received. To change this behavior use "set unwindonsignal on" Evaluation of the expression containing the function (at 0x1) will be abandoned. (gdb) Somehow, the function is not properly compiled?

  • Can a tab bar controller added to a uitableview?

    - by Sheehan Alam
    I have a View that contains a UITableView and a UITabBarController. I have set my IBOutlets, but the UITabbarController does not appear. Do I need to do anything else to allow it to appear? Note: I don't want the tab-bar to be displayed throughout the entire application. Only on one specific view.

  • Why is my view not resizing after rotating?

    - by E-Madd
    I'm only supporting the portrait orientation, but both the right-side-up and upside-down versions. Why do my subviews not resize appropriately? There's a status bar sized black space at the top of the view. If I change tabs and come back, it's corrected.

  • Sending / Forwarding variable arguments in ObjectiveC

    - by Authman Apatira
    I know this is possible in other programming languages. Suppose we have the following arrangement: - (void) myMethod:(NSString*)variables, ... { // Handle business here. } - (void) anotherMethod:(NSString*)variables, ... { // We want to pass these variable arguments for handling [self myMethod:variables, ...]; // Do not pass GO } // Start the party: [self anotherMethod:@"arg1", @"arg2", @"arg3", @"arg4", nil]; What's the trick to get this working in ObjC?

  • Is there a way to force CoreImage to use the GPU?

    - by NSSplendid
    We are having the following problem: a series of Core Image filters runs constantly in our program. When evaluating on my Macbook Pro, Core Image decides to schedule all graphics computation on the GPU, as expected. When using a MacPro, however, CI uses the CPUs! This is a problem, as we need them for other processing. [1] The question now is: Can one tell CI to run exclusively on the GPU? [1] Both hardware sets are of the newest kind. The MacPro has 8 Cores.

  • Reference properteries declared in a protocol and implemented in the anonymous category?

    - by Heath Borders
    I have the following protocol: @protocol MyProtocol @property (nonatomic, retain) NSObject *myProtocolProperty; -(void) myProtocolMethod; @end and I have the following class: @interface MyClass : NSObject { } @end I have a class extension declared, I have to redeclare my protocol properties here or else I can't implement them with the rest of my class. @interface()<MyProtocol> @property (nonatomic, retain) NSObject *myExtensionProperty; /* * This redeclaration is required or my @synthesize myProtocolProperty fails */ @property (nonatomic, retain) NSObject *myProtocolProperty; - (void) myExtensionMethod; @end @implementation MyClass @synthesize myProtocolProperty = _myProtocolProperty; @synthesize myExtensionProperty = _myExtensionProperty; - (void) myProtocolMethod { } - (void) myExtensionMethod { } @end In a consumer method, I can call my protocol methods and properties just fine. Calling my extension methods and properties produces a warning and an error respectively. - (void) consumeMyClassWithMyProtocol: (MyClass<MyProtocol> *) myClassWithMyProtocol { myClassWithMyProtocol.myProtocolProperty; // works, yay! [myClassWithMyProtocol myProtocolMethod]; // works, yay! myClassWithMyProtocol.myExtensionProperty; // compiler error, yay! [myClassWithMyProtocol myExtensionMethod]; // compiler warning, yay! } Is there any way I can avoid redeclaring the properties in MyProtocol within my class extension in order to implement MyProtocol privately?

  • Rendering CALayer in context uses large amounts of memory

    - by Otium
    I am taking a snapshot of a UIWebView layer, but when I render the webview's layer in the current context my app uses 10mb more memory, and I don't think that should be right. Here is my current code: CGSize imageSize = self.bounds.size; UIGraphicsBeginImageContextWithOptions(imageSize, YES, 0); CGContextRef context = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); [self.layer renderInContext:context]; _snapshot = UIGraphicsGetImageFromCurrentImageContext(); UIGraphicsEndImageContext();

  • formatting european characters from JSON results

    - by mlecho
    hi, i am building an application that imports JSON results and parses the objects to a table cell. Nothing fancy, but in my results, many of the terms/names are European with characters such as è or ú which come out as \u00E9 or \u00FA. I think these are ASCII ? or unicode? ( i can never keep em staight). Anyway, like all good NSSTring's, i figured there must be a method to fix this, but i am not finding it....any ideas? I am trying to avoid doing something like this: this posting. Thanks all.

  • Basic iphone timer example

    - by Rob
    Okay, I have searched online and even looked in a couple of books for the answer because I can't understand the apple documentation for the NSTimer. I am trying to implement 2 timers on the same view that each have 3 buttons (START - STOP - RESET). The first timer counts down from 2 minutes and then beeps. The second timer counts up from 00:00 indefinitely. I am assuming that all of the code will be written in the methods behind the 3 different buttons but I am completely lost trying to read the apple documentation. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Month TableView Organizer

    - by rson
    I need to create a table view with 1 or 2 sections, depending on certain conditions. The first section needs to contain all of the remaining months of the current year, and the second section contains the preceding months of the next year, up to but not including the current month. Example: 2009 November December 2010 January February March April May June July August September October This would be the scenario with the current month of November. However, if it were January, there would be only 1 section containing all 12 months of the current year. This all needs to be dependent on the date settings of the phone.

  • Handling out of memory errors in iPhone

    - by hgpc
    I would like to handle out of memory errors in iPhone to execute logic with lesser memory requirements in case I run of of memory. In particular, I would like to do something very similar to the followin pseudo-code: UIImage* image; try { image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"high_quality_image.png"]; } catch (OutOfMemoryException e) { image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"low_quality_image.jpg"]; } First I attempt to load a high-quality image, and if I run out of memory while doing it, then I use a lower quality image. Would this be possible?

    I have a root view controller with no nib file, I tried adding this at cellForRowAtIndexPath as that passes in a UITableView as tableView. So I put : tableView = [[UITableView alloc] initWithFrame:self.view.frame style:UITableViewStyleGrouped]; It ran with no error but it didnt seem to change anything.
