• Proxy service likes Apache Http

  Currently I try to simulate my app as distributed servers, so I let them run on localhost:9000 and localhost:9001, i tried using apache load balancer but it is really hard to config on mac, my idea is the second server localhost:9001 will be kept ideal and the requests only be redirected to them when the first server is downed. Is there any good free program can do that ? (except Apache httpd). Extra functions: my application is written in java and maintain an in-memory object, is there any service that can synchronize that object between 2 servers so they can keep uptodate status of other (the second one takes state of the first one)? Is there any app can support that? Thank you very much.

• Ubuntu doesn't start and I can't login [migrated]

  My ubuntu 13.04 doesn't boot anymore. Eternal black screen. If I press ALT+CTRL+F1 I see that it's stucked on "Checking battery state [OK]." I'd like to try to go with sudo apt-get install gdm but I can't login on terminal tty2, tty3 etc. They correctly ask for my nickname, then they make me wait a lot, ask for password and make me wait again. After a lot of time (... a lot) the best I could achieve was visualizing "Documentantion https://help.ubuntu.com". I can never reach the point where I can give commands. Plus, during the long pauses, every 2 minutes it gives a messagge like this: INFO: task XXX blocked for more than 120 seconds. Any suggestion? Sorry for my bad english and thanks everyone for the attention.

• How do you delete an iFolder from iFolder admin interface

  There are only two buttons at the bottom of the screen "enable" and "disable". When I check the box next to an iFolder one of them is lit (depending on what the state of the folder is)... but there is no button to delete the folder (as it seems there should be from the documentation). There is a delete button in the "orphaned" tab but how do you "orphan" an iFolder? I'm logged in to the admin interface as admin, who is currently the owner of the folder I wish to delete.

  A few years ago I saw this in a company but I don't know how it was built. There was 1 Computer (I don't know if Windows Server or plain Windows 7 - the server) and 3 other computers (Windows 7 - the clients). As soon as the Windows 7 clients were started, they all started up the same image (Don't know if the same image file or just the same state) over network and were able to work on the computer. As soon as the machine was shutdown, all the changes made to the system were erased. How could I build a system like this so I have 1 image file which I keep up to date and then feed it to the other machines in my network? It would look this this basically:

• Importing orphaned Outlook 2010 OST file

  I have a problem with Outlook 2010 and OST files. First my exhange hosting company deleted my exchange account by accident. They've created it on another server, but can't get the data back. Now I did make a copy of the \users\name\appdata\local\outlook directory. So I have the original OST files. I decided to switch hosts to Office 365. During this, I stupidly deleted my account from within outlook and recreated it to point to Office 365. And only then did I learn that you can't import from OST files. Edited to clarify: I have a complete backup of the pc. Which folders would I need to restore to ensure that I can get exhange back it's previous state? I'm prepared to to a complete restore if necessary, but would prefer to localise the changes.

• Mail Stuck in Backend Exchange Queue

  I have a message that has and is stuck in a queue on my backend mail server. The queue is: Internet Mail SMTP Connector (MY_FRONT_END_SERVER_NAME)-524350ff... It is in state retry with 183 failures. It is only one message and all other mail is flowing. The message is not particularly large. My limited understanding, a guess really, is that this message should get handed off to the front end mail server and sent to the remote hosts for which it is destined, so it should even matter if the remote host is up. However, I can telnet to the smtp provider of that host. How can I find out why it is stuck in this queue, and can I force it out somehow (unfreeze doesn't help me)?

• Can't deploy an ejb bean on jboss

  I am try to deploy a jar to an jboss server. It works on my environment. But when I deployed the same jar on another server, i kept getting an error saying that the persistence unit is already registered. There is no other bean using the same name and the same persistence unit name. I tried to restart the server and remove the tmp, work, data directory but still get the same error. here is my error: ObjectName: jboss.j2ee:service=EJB3,module=wess_jpa.jar State: FAILED Reason: java.lang.RuntimeException: javax.management.InstanceAlreadyExistsException: persistence.units:unitName=dses_wess already registered.   I accidentally deleted Google as the default search engine from Chrome. This also caused the "Search Google for this image" item in the context menu of images to disappear.   We are using a MariaDB Galera Cluster with 3 nodes. For the state transfer we are using xtrabackup. We have some problems with the binary logs - they got too big and crashed the server. We can remove them manually with the purge binary logs command, another way would be to set the expire_logs_days so they would expire. I now that we could use xtrabackup to backup the DB and use the binlog to get to some point in time. But do we really need it for Galera to work ?

• Windows 7 Pro x64 suffering from insomnia

  My Win 7 Pro x64 is unable to enter sleep mode. Pressing the sleep button results in strange state where the computer starts entering the sleep mode, the display is turned off but then the whole process stops, it does not switch off the hdd, the keyboard still responds to numlock/capslock, but the display does not on anymore. I have to cut power and restart. If I remove everything (wireless mouse, external hdd, usb hub, etc.) it does enter sleep mode, but if there is something left, it does not, though every one of them has "Allow the computer to turn off this device..." checked and "Allow this device to wake the computer" unchecked. Why does it not work? It was working properly in the RC.

I am trying to take backup using windows server backup feature and it fails with following error in eventlog The backup operation that started at '?2009?-?08?-?22T18:42:14.123000000Z' has failed because the Volume Shadow Copy Service operation to create a shadow copy of the volumes being backed up failed with following error code '2155348129'. Please review the event details for a solution, and then rerun the backup operation once the issue is resolved. • Windows Services don't automatically start after reboot?

  We've got some Windows services written in .NET. They start fine manually within the services mmc, but despite being set to Automatic, they never start when powering on (or rebooting) the machine. Update In the event log, instead of seeing "xyz started", alongside all the other services starting, I just see "The xyz service entered the stopped state." and a seperate error that says "A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the slsvc service.". If I manually start them, then I get a normal in the event log as expected, and all is fine - until the next Windows Update patch which forces a reboot and all the services are off again. Any ideas? I've tried setting them to Delayed Start with no apparent difference.

  I am creating a test VM client for our QA department. Once it's installed, my options will be: Use a snapshot Use non persistent disk on the hard disk. For either options, I can give the role of QA_DEP the ability to log to vCenter and go back/power-off the client - so they can return to their clean machine. My question: is it possible to have that ability without using vCenter? What If I want that on a Client reboot - it will return to it's initial/clean state? The clients are not gonna be heavy loaded.

• Interactive mode of PSExec not working for console application

  I am trying to use PSExec to kick off a console application on a remote computer in an interactive state. When I run something like this: PsExec.exe -s -d -i 1 \\MyServer notepad.exe It launches Notepad just fine. If I then run this: PsExec.exe -s -d -i 1 \\MyServer C:\Temp\MyConsoleApp.exe It launches the command windows but doesn't do anything as far as I can tell. As in, when I run my console application locally, it displays a "heartbeat" every 5 seconds, but when I run it remotely, nothing is displayed in the command window. The .exe does show up as a process in Task Manager. Any ideas?

  Sometimes when my Win 7 machine has programs that crashed, maybe Firefox, or IE, I would like to shut down the computer without installing any Windows update. That's because I worry that if IE or Firefox crashed, the system is not in a very stable state, so I would rather install the update later. But it seems I only have 2 choices: 1) Shut Down and it always will do any Update 2) Restart, and no update is done (these are 2 choices among the shut down / log off option) So is there a way to Shut Down without doing the Update? Or must I restart first, and then do the Updates, and then Shut Down?

  I've recently lost my window options, had to somehow manipulate my way to Xchat and ask some people how do I get it back (it was metacity --replace, and after I decided to stop the command and run it in background the X was completely useless so I had to do killall -u user). And that was after the internet connection stopped working for some reason (might've been the ISP) ..The thing is, after using linux a long time, I still get the feeling that on dire situations, I don't know the good tricks (stuff like metacity --replace) I feel like a really need like a "rescue" cheatsheet for things like "how to save the X no matter what without pressing reset" and "how to reset the system to "normal state"" "how to connect to the internet through the command line" "how to monitor what the X is doing" (using ubuntu linux 10.04 btw)

• Can I set a hyperlink's display text from a document property?

  I'm trying to make a word document customizable through a document property that contains the base URL of all the links. I've managed to make the links themselves reference the document property like this: { HYPERLINK { QUOTE "http://{ DOCPROPERTY Host}/some/path" } } Changing the document property and updating the files makes the hyperlinks point to the correct URL. However, visually, nothing changes - the old URL is still shown as the display text of the hyperlink. Is there a way to make this work? Microsoft docs helpfully state You can edit the display text for the field by typing over it. but I can't figure out how that is supposed to work - even if I manually type over the hyperlink, it includes the edits in the field code instead of adjusting the display text. Currently attempting in Word 2002, but 2010 also available.

  An openvz container can be stopped with vzctl stop <id> , but this needs the cooperation from the init inside the container. In case a container is compromised a way is needed to stop the container withouts its cooperation. Something like a vzctl kill <id> is needed which kills all processes inside the container and puts it into the stopped state. Such a kill command is not listed in the manpage. How can an openvz container be killed/stopped without needing it's cooperation?

  My desktop's Windows 7 installation was working perfectly but recently I ran into a problem where it would not come out of sleep. The system seems to be running it's just that it won't come out of the sleep state. If I have to guess I would say that it's not recognizing the USB and thus not waking. I'd say this was a standard problem with Windows not sleeping/hibernating properly, but it was working fine for about a year and stopped working around two weeks ago. I have hybrid sleep ON and USB selective suspend ON.

• Crap, hard disk failure. Can I recover my "move"d folders?

  I am in the process of moving all my files from an old laptop to new one. I just moved 11gb of data from my old laptop to a hard drive (external) and then upon moving it out to the new hard drive, the hard drive is getting a CRC (Data Error (Cyclic Redundancy Check). Now I am looking for a solution to recover the files that I moved on my old laptop (not the external). I understand they they are just marked for potential overwriting to free up space. I was getting ready to test out GetDataBack, but it says to install it on a healthy windows and use the recover-needed drive as an external. However, I don't want to turn off my computer without first getting the okay since it is in a "moved" state. Please help! What can I do to recover the Moved files. I haven't touched the computer since it has been moved. What can I use to recover them?

  Hello I'm using OSXplanet (which is a mac app based on xplanet) to view satellite and rendered images of the earth (or other planets) as the desktop background on my laptop. The images and data refresh regularly as data is updated, such as cyclones, clouds, weather, volcanoes, etc. I have Cloud Data set to refresh every 3 hours, but the resulting image never changes. By default, OSXplanet seems to be trying to get image data from Iowa State University. • Simple server status page hosted externally available for users

  I am looking for any kind of script - can be asp or php or any other web language - that gives me the ability to log outages and the current state of the network for our organisation. This would be similar to any major Telco's "Network Status" page, but I just want to tell the user's out there if the systems are up and running and have a history of recent outages. This would be for our remote user's so they could go to a webpage (externally hosted from our main site) and see that we are currently having problems with our network.
