Members of the community nominate worthy participants, Spec Leads, and Java Specification Requests (JSRs) in order to cheer on the hard work and creativity that produces ground-breaking results for the community and industry in the Java Standard Edition (SE), Java Enterprise Edition (EE), or Java Micro Edition (ME) platforms. The community gets together every year at the JavaOne conference to applaud in person the winners of three awards: JCP Member/Participant of the Year, Outstanding Spec Lead, and Most Significant JSR. This year’s unveiling will occur Tuesday evening, 2 October, at the Annual JCP Community Party held in San Francisco during JavaOne. Nominations close on 16 July 2012. • Squibbly Update: Multiple Document Support

  An update on Squibbly, the recently announced free and open source integration framework for LibreOffice! Now multiple documents can be opened at the same time, either from "File | Open File" or from the File Browser (i.e., the rebranded Favorites window). Click to enlarge the image below to get a fuller perspective on Squibbly: Take note of the tabs at the bottom of the editor-area in the screenshot above, and especially when you click the image to enlarge it. Multiple tabs are available at the same time, each representing a different open document. Click a different tab and its document is activated and brought to the front of the application. That means multiple LibreOffice applications can be used simultaneously, each could be undocked from the frame of the application, and the user can work with multiple documents, from multiple LibreOffice applications, all at the same time. • Security for LDAP authentication for Collabnet

  In a previous post, I wrote about how to get LDAP authentication working in Collabnet. By default, all LDAP users are put into the Users role on the server.  For most purposes, this is just fine, and I don’t have a way to change this.  The documentation gives hints that you can add them to other roles, but for now, I don’t have the need. However, adding permissions to different repositories is a different question. To add them, go to the repositories list, select Access Rules and then you can enter in their username, as it sits in Active Directory to the lists for the repositories or for the predefined groups that you have created.  To my knowledge, you cannot use the Active Directory groups in collabnet, which is a big problem.  Needing to micromanage users really limits the usefulness of the LDAP integration.   I am looking for an enterprise-grade service or a tool that can be used to scan / fingerprint websites and notify when major XHTML code changes are detected. The tool should be able to continuously scan thousands of websites and determine the percentage of HTML code that has been modified since the last run. And then either save the data where it can be easily accessed or send periodic notifications. I know of services like ChangeDetect.com, but they don't do markup only changes and instead focus on everything, including content. We don't really care about presentation content, because a lot of sites we need to cover are updated frequently with content.

• Team Foundation Server– Debug symbols(pdb files) generated in Release build? Fix it.

  Yesterday I setup TFS for my .NET playground website to implement continuous integration and deployments. After a successful build I noticed that debug symbols(pdb files) were generated even though TFS is configured to build in Release mode.  After a bit of analysis its turned out to be the behavior of TFS to generate debug symbols (pdb files) until we pass the attribute DebugType = None. Here are the steps to pass DebugType parameter to MSBuild of TFS Go to Team Explorer Select Build Defintion >> Edit Build Definition Switch to Process tab Navigate to Advanced Section and locate MSBuild Arguments Add the following: /p:Configuration=Release /p:DebugType=none

• How to make Evolution mail work with my work email address?

  this is the 1st time to write here and the 1st time to use a mail client other than outlook. I tried to add my enterprise email address to evolution mail, I tried both server types exchange mapi and microsoft exchange. With exchange mapi i get this error message "Authentication failed. MapiLogonProvider: Failed to login into the server" With Microsoft Exchange I get this error "Could not connect to server . Make sure the URL is correct and try again." Although I'm sure of all the steps Server: ip address of the mail server Username: Domainname\Username Domain: domain name My system is Ubuntu Release 11.04 (natty) Kernel Linux 2.6.38-15-generic Genome 2.32.1 Evolution 2.32.2 Any kind of help is appreciated and thanks in advance

  I want to start looking for jobs in great companies and I have four years of enterprise corporations development, three years with C#.NET and alomst one year with Ruby On Rails, JS, etc... But when I look up interview questions from Google, Amazon, Fog Creek, DropBox, etc... they are really targeted at students that are coming fresh out of college and still remember what was Dynamic Programming and Dijkstra algorithms ... but I don't! :( It has been a while for me ... If a I need a sort algorithm I would either Google it or there already is a library and method that does it for me. So what should I do? Do they realize that this guy is not coming from college and will ask more general questions about software architecture or nop! I should go back find my old Data structures book from the storage and read them? In that case wht books and language do you recommend to hone my skills?

  What's the difference in content between the Ubuntu and Lubuntu Software Centers? I've seen this Are softwares installable on ubuntu also installable on lubuntu? which indicates that the content should be the same. However, I looked for Ridual, OrthCal, Cuttlefish and MenuLibre. While all four are available in the Ubuntu Software Center, they aren't listed in the Lubuntu Software Center. Will they eventually be listed? Who decides? I'm asking because one of the criteria in the apps showdown, if I understood correctly, was desktop integration. If by "desktop", Unity is specifically implied then it would make sense not including them in the Lubuntu Software Center. Is that correct? I'm on 12.04.

  I've been using BURG for years to get rid of the eye sore that is the standard GRUB interface. When I upgraded to Quantal, the repository does not contain the updated information. I.e. after I add sudo add-apt-repository ppa:n-muench/burg sudo apt-get update I get the annoying response W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/n-muench/burg/ubuntu/dists/quantal/main/binary-amd64/Packages 404 Not Found It's been like this for a month, contrary to various websites which say it works. Is BURG being maintained? Have they created a better alternative (such as integration with GRUB, like it should have been in the first place). How do I get a decent-looking bootloader?
