  Hello there. Please, give me advice, how to construct select query. I have table table with fields type and obj_id. I want to select all records in concordance with next array: $arr = array( 0 => array('type' => 1, 'obj_id' => 5), 1 => array('type' => 3, 'obj_id' => 15), 2 => array('type' => 4, 'obj_id' => 14), 3 => array('type' => 12, 'obj_id' => 17), ); I want to select needed rows by one query, is it real? Smth like select * from `table` where type in (1,3,4,12) and obj_id in (5,15,14,17) But this query returns also records with type = 3 and obj_id = 14, and for example type = 1 and obj_id = 17. p.s. moderators, please fix my title, I dont know how to describe my question.

  I'm a bit confused on this. I have a data table structured like this: Table: Data DataID Val 1 Value 1 2 Value 2 3 Value 3 4 Value 4 Then I have another table structured like this: Table: Table1 Col1 Col2 1 2 3 4 4 3 2 1 Both columns from Table1 point to the data in the data table. How can I get this data to show in a query? For example, a query to return this: Query: Query1 Column1 Column2 Value 1 Value 2 Value 3 Value 4 Value 4 Value 3 Value 2 Value 1 I'm familiar enough with SQL to do a join with one column, but lost beyond that. • Finding the most similar numbers across multiple lists in Python

  In Python, I have 3 lists of floating-point numbers (angles), in the range 0-360, and the lists are not the same length. I need to find the triplet (with 1 number from each list) in which the numbers are the closest. (It's highly unlikely that any of the numbers will be identical, since this is real-world data.) I was thinking of using a simple lowest-standard-deviation method to measure agreement, but I'm not sure of a good way to implement this. I could loop through each list, comparing the standard deviation of every possible combination using nested for loops, and have a temporary variable save the indices of the triplet that agrees the best, but I was wondering if anyone had a better or more elegant way to do something like this. • howto catch jQuery for multiple links but not all

  I'm trying to dig into jQuery but would like some feedback on how to do things the best way, I have a list with items, which each contains a hidden div that should show upon click on it's parent, list div:ed item1 with link hidden div div:ed item2 with link hidden div .. If i go now over menu B the interval applied to A is now applied to B. There are now 2 interval functions applied to B. The one originally for A and a new one triggered by the mouseover on B. If I would go to A all the intervals are now applied to A. I have been searching for hours but and I am completely stuck. Thanks in advance.

• PHP class referencing confusion across multiple files

  I have an index.php file that has 3 includes <?php require_once('mod.php'); $mod = new Mod(); require_once('start.php'); require_once('tools.php'); ....some code.... ?> I need to be able to reference the $mod object inside the start.php and tools.php. How do I pass that object to be referenced by those 2 other require files? Basically the mod.php is a class that has an array list generated in its __construct(). I want to use that array list data inside the startup.php and tools.php file but not sure how to pass in the existing one without calling "new" inside both of those files separately which doesn't do what I need since it resets everything. • Boost Shared Pointer: Simultaneous Read Access Across Multiple Threads

  I have a thread A which allocates memory and assigns it to a shared pointer. Then this thread spawns 3 other threads X, Y and Z and passes a copy of the shared pointer to each. When X, Y and Z go out of scope, the memory is freed. But is there a possibility that 2 threads X, Y go out of scope at the exact same point in time and there is a race condition on reference count so instead of decrementing it by 2, it only gets decremented once. So, now the reference count newer drops to 0, so there is a memory leak. Note that, X, Y and Z are only reading the memory. Not writing or resetting the shared pointer. To cut a long story short, can there be a race condition on the reference count and can that lead to memory leaks?

• MSSQL Server using multiple ID Numbers

  I have an web application that creates printable forms, these forms have a unique number on them, the problem is I have 2 forms that separate numbers need to be created for them. ie) Form1- Numbered 2000000-2999999 Form2- Numbered 3000000-3999999 dbo.test2 - is my form information table Tsel - is my autoinc table for the 3000000 series numbers Tadv - is my autoinc table for the 2000000 series numbers What I have done is create 2 tables with just autoinc row (one for 2000000 series numbers and one for 3000000 series numbers), I then created a trigger to add a record to the coresponding table, read back the autoinc number and add it to my table that stores the form information including the just created autoinc number for the right series of forms. Although it does work, I'm concerned that the numbers will get messed up under load. I'm not sure the @@IDENTITY will always return the right value when many people are using the system. (I cannot have duplicates and I need to use the numbering form show above. • Improve disk read performance (multiple files) with threading

  I need to find a method to read a big number of small files (about 300k files) as fast as possible. Reading them sequentially using FileStream and reading the entire file in a single call takes between 170 and 208 seconds (you know, you re-run, disk cache plays its role and time varies). Then I tried using PInvoke with CreateFile/ReadFile and using FILE_FLAG_SEQUENTIAL_SCAN, but I didn't appreciate any changes. I tried with several threads (divide the big set in chunks and have every thread reading its part) and this way I was able to improve speed just a little bit (not even a 5% with every new thread up to 4). Any ideas on how to find the most effective way to do this?

• Loading jQuery multiple times in the same page

  I'm implementing a plug-in that's embeddable in different sites (a la Meebo, Wibiya), and I want to use jQuery. Problem is, the site I'm embedding to, may already have a jQuery script loaded. The question is, what's the best approach for this kind of problem: Should I just check if jQuery is already loaded and if so, use the original site's jQuery, otherwise load it myself? If I use this approach, am I not risking comaptibility problems (i.e. the site uses an old version of jQuery)? Should I load jQuery myself (whether it's already loaded or not) and call "jQuery.noConflict(true)" when it's finished loading? If so, how can I make sure that my jQuery has finished loading (hooking to the onLoad event doesn't seem to work all the time, and polling for "jQuery" won't work for obvious reasons)? Should I do something else? Thanks.

• Take advantage of multiple cores executing SQL statements

  I have a small application that reads XML files and inserts the information on a SQL DB. There are ~ 300 000 files to import, each one with ~ 1000 records. I started the application on 20% of the files and it has been running for 18 hours now, I hope I can improve this time for the rest of the files. I'm not using a multi-thread approach, but since the computer I'm running the process on has 4 cores I was thinking on doing it to get some improvement on the performance (although I guess the main problem is the I/O and not only the processing). I was thinking on using the BeginExecutingNonQuery() method on the SqlCommand object I create for each insertion, but I don't know if I should limit the max amount of simultaneous threads (nor I know how to do it). What's your advice to get the best CPU utilization? Thanks

• A versioning workflow for multiple similar (but not identical) deployments

  I'm currently employed at a small non-tech organisation and have been given the role of coding the organisations' website. While I have enjoyed the task and have learnt much with web dev I've encountered a few issues that I'm hoping someone will be able to help with me or at least point me in the right direction on. A little background: The site I work on has subdomains that each have their own separate WordPress installation on - as this has been the easiest "backend" admin panel for the type of user who will be responsible for updating content (etc). Within the organisation I work under the Marketing Manager (MM) and I code according to his style guide and wire frames. While we have been working with only one subdomain since the beginning of the year the project has been relatively simple and straightforward. However, lately the workflow is becoming a little more complicated as our original subdomain has been copied over to the other subdomains. Each of the new subdomains receives minor edits to their stylesheets (eg. different pictures for background, slightly different colours here and there, etc). The issue: At the moment managing all the different subdomains has been "bearable", but the straw that's braking the camel's back at the moment has been the slight reversions the MM has required now that the CEO has seen the final product. The problem I'm having with reversions in stylesheets is that the CEO will one week state that he likes change "X" and then as the MM and I continue to modify the site (to now "Z"), will another week state that he wants us to change "X" to "W" but keeping most of the changes made in "Y". What I'm looking for is something that allows for: tracking file changes reverting changes made (or reverting back to 'a' from 'e' but including changes 'b' & 'c') easily upload necessary files to their respective WP-theme installation Does anything out there come close to addressing these issues? If so, what? Thanks for any help! PS - I'm learning Git at the moment and it seems to do the "tracking file changes" quite nicely. Haven't learnt about the reverting changes bit yet, though. Maybe for my final point I'm thinking of creating a shell script to automatically upload the files to their folders. Does Git do this too though? Addendum (alexbbrown) I had a similar problem: I ran a custom version of mediawiki where I installed various extensions in the versioned core (with svn). Each of the extensions required an section in the confit file, but the confit file also needed local configuration for each of several deployments. I could have implemented it using includes, but they would not be versioned; and rebasing branches each time is a chore. +50 experience points for a good answer in git.

  I have been working on a project for some time, and it has branched off into several different versions. All versions have some common code base, and each version has specific functionality that is unique, and each version will need to be supported individually. What SVN structure would you recommend? Right now I am using a separate repository for each project, but the downside of that is that it is impractical for large number of products. The downside of using a single repository with branches is that it would add revision numbers to every branch whether anything was committed, regardless from which branch. What setup do you/would you use in this situation?

  Using Javascript / jQuery, I'm trying to build a "combination checker" that will take the values of three (but can be more) dropdown lists and filter the options based on a supplied list of allowed combinations. For example: DROPDOWNS Field 1: - value_1 - value_2 Field 2: - value_3 Field 3: - value_4 - value_5 COMBINATIONS - value_1, value_3, value_5 - value_1, value_3, value_4 - value_2, value_3, value_5 When a user selects Field 3 - value_4, the unavailable options will be disabled - ie, Field 1 - value_2 (there is no combination that allows value_2 and value_4 to be selected together). It would be really great if someone could provide some pointers on how this can be achieved or just provide a fresh perspective - I'm going round in circles on this one!

  For my ASP.NET MVC application I've created custom validation attribute, and indicated that more than one instance of it can be specified for a single field or property: [AttributeUsage(AttributeTargets.Field | AttributeTargets.Property, AllowMultiple = true)] public sealed class SomeAttribute: ValidationAttribute I've created validator for such an attribute: public class SomeValidator : DataAnnotationsModelValidator<SomeAttribute> and wire up this in the Application_Start of Global.asax DataAnnotationsModelValidatorProvider.RegisterAdapter( typeof (SomeAttribute), typeof (SomeValidator)); Finally, if I use my attribute in the desired way: [SomeAttribute(...)] //first [SomeAttribute(...)] //second public string SomeField { get; set; } when validation is executed by the framework, only first attribute instance is invoked. Second one seems to be dead. I've noticed that during each request only single validator instance is created (for the first annotation). How to solve this problem and fire all attributes?

  I need a singleton in my code. I implemented it in Java and it works well. The reason I did it, is to ensure that in a mulitple environment, there is only one instance of this class. But now I want to test my Singleton object locally with a Unit test. For this reason I need to simulate another instance of this Singleton (the object that would be from another device). So is there a possiblity to instantiate a Singleton a second time for testing purpose or do I have to mock it? I'm not sure, but I think it could be possible by using a different class loader?

• Sorting a 2D numpy array by multiple axes

  I have a 2D numpy array of shape (N,2) which is holding N points (x and y coordinates). For example: array([[3, 2], [6, 2], [3, 6], [3, 4], [5, 3]]) I'd like to sort it such that my points are ordered by x-coordinate, and then by y in cases where the x coordinate is the same. So the array above should look like this: array([[3, 2], [3, 4], [3, 6], [5, 3], [6, 2]]) If this was a normal Python list, I would simply define a comparator to do what I want, but as far as I can tell, numpy's sort function doesn't accept user-defined comparators. Any ideas?

• Calling multiple functions simultaneously with jquery.

  I want to loop through an object that contains functions which will execute one after another. My most ideal approach would be to have these chain somehow (ie. func2 waits for func1 and func3 waits for func2) but this needs to happen dynamically and the functions will all have different durations. I'm using jQuery so I thought that perhaps "queue()" may help but I haven't worked with it much. A main concern is to not add any scope/callbacks to the functions within the object. I'd rather somehow enclose them within a parent function to execute within the loop in order to create the callback/chaining. Here's an example of what I've got now, but dumbed down.
