• how to run existing ant script from groovy

  my build is a 3 step process. run ant to build. transfer war to server. touch reload file. I have transfered last two steps in groovy, using antbuilder. However, I am not able to run my existing ant script using groovy. Usually I run it using the following command in dos prompt: ant -Dsystem=mysystem -DsomeotherOption=true from groovy when I try to do "ant -Dsystem=mysystem -DsomeotherOption=true".execute() it gives an error saying ant is not a recognized command. How can I utilize my existing ant script in groovy?

• PostgreSQL / Ruby for commercial application

  I am planning a web-based commercial application with front-end RoR and back-end PostgreSQL. I've some confusion about RoR and PostgreSQL Edition to use. For RoR, I have Aptana RADRails installed. For PostgreSQL, a free variant is also available at EnterpriseDB. Previously I installed a free EnterpriseDB PostgreSQL variant and it was very smooth and had professional touch. It was quite different from the one available from PostgreSQL website. I want to know which IDE and RoR variant to use for my project. I have no idea of Ruby and Rails. I will be learning and developing simultaneously. Also, which PostgreSQL variant to use? Can these two technologies be used for a developing a commercial application?

• Where Debian Lenny stores initial ifconfig values?

  With upgrade of VMWare Player I suddenly found my Debian Lenny VM not getting IP address. Some DHCP issue maybe, I don't know. So I have to set it manually every boot in Player window, via: ifconfig eth0 down ifconfig eth0 192.168.175.128 netmask 255.255.255.0 up I usually start up VM and then connect to it via SSH, so this procedure bothers me. Sure I can add it to startup script, but is there some special place to enter these values? Like, some config file or so?

• (Tough) Security Queston about ISP companies

  I want to ask a question. One ISP was criticized for it's low security conditions, and when i heard this i started to think: If one gets an unauthorized access to the mainframe computer / internal network of the ISP, then wouldn't he be able to sniff all the traffic ? Because the ISP is providing the internet connection for the user so all traffic that sends and transmits a user travels via the ISP, right ? What security solutions (talking about computer security) are being implemented by other ISP in order to protect themselves and their users ? If all the connections are being sent via a special computer, how secure it is and how can be we sure that it's really safe ? And what kind of computers are those who serve as backbones for the ISP ? • Must partprobe before using drive?

  This is a followup question to Cannot mount /dev/sdc1 on Debian 5.0, special device /dev/sdc1 doesn't exist Basically, I have 6 SATA hard drives in a machine and I'm trying to create a RAID6 array with them. When I try to run the mdadm command to create (with the verbose option) a raid array, I see messages like "mdadm: super1.x cannot open /dev/sdf1: No such device or address" which are resolved by doing partprobe /dev/sdf and then re-running the mdadm command. The problem is that I have to run partprobe after each reboot, and from experience I don't think this is normal behaviour -- on no other linux machine do I have to partprobe the device before I can use it. Something must be going wrong, but how do I troubleshoot this to find out what? Could this be caused by a hardware problem? Edit: Additional note - before I seemed to only have this problem with one drive, but now I'm having it with 3 drives.

• RRAS VPN Server on Windows 2008 Behind NAT

  Ok, so I have kind of a funky setup, let me see if I can describe it. I have a single VMware host with a public IP address 74.xx.xx.x Inside that host, I have 3 VM's Web Server - 1 NIC - 192.168.199.20 SQL Server - 1 NIC - 192.168.199.30 RRAS/VPN Server - 2 NICs 192.168.199.40 & 192.168.199.45 Due to Limitations of my ISP, all of the VM's are connected to the host VIA NAT. I have NAT setup for the webserver so all incoming requests on 74.xx.xx.x via port 80 route to 192.168.199.20. This works fine. Now I want to set up a Windows 2008 VPN server inside this NAT network and forward the correct traffic to it. My questions are as follows? What are the TCP/UDP ports that i have to forward? What special configuration is needed on the server and clients since this is behind a NAT Any other advice would be wonderful.

  Hi, in school I have written many programs for 8051 compatible CPU. But I never actually knew how our "debug" sets worked. I mean, we test our programs in special sets, which actually allow you to very simply load program to CPU via PC serial port. But I thing you know this musch more better than I. But how it works? I mean, I know there is chip which adjusts signal level from PC serial port to TTL logic, and than connected to serial line of 8051. But thats all I know. Actually even my teacher doesen´t know how it works, since school bought it all. So, I suspect there is some program already running in the 8051 which handles communication and stores your program into memory, am I right? But, how can you make 8051 to process instructions from different location than ROM? Becouse if I am right, you cannot write into ROM memory by any instruction, as well as 8051 can only read instructions from ROM?

  Hi, I have two questions with respect to rsync: 1: I have a bunch of files which are incremented by day of the year. Ex: file.txt.81, file.txt.82, etc. Now, these files are in different directories: data1/file.txt.81 data1/file.txt.82 data2/file2.txt.81 data2/file2.txt.82 How can I have rsync get only the *.82 files and not even touch the other files 2: Now I have a similar data directory structure as above. How can I rsync all files that have been modified on or after a specific day? Thanks

• Benefits of programming (doing) versus reading blogs (thinking?)

  I have come to a conclusion or realization that perhaps many developers I know including myself have a fanatical fascination with reading as many programming and technology blogs or listening to podcasts as humanly possible. I sometimes wonder if this time would be much better spent in actual coding and doing, rather than the incessant thinking and perhaps wondering what the "other guy" is doing? With a very large signal to noise ratio in most blogs and podcasts, is there real benefit in maintaining a huge and constant blog role.. or is this some primal fear or instinct to keep up the pace unless being left behind? Can they simply be relegated to Google search and just-in-time learning? Edit: (There are some amazing answers here and touch a philosophical nerve with me, if you are reading this for the first time, I recommend taking the time reading through the answers below)

• Cisco 877 as a VPN server?

  I have a Cisco 877 router which connects my network to the Internet using an ADSL line, a single public IP address and NAT; the IOS version is 15. Everything is working ok, but I'd like to configure this router to be a VPN server, to be able to connect to the network from the outside. I've tried looking for documentation, but everything I can find is related to having the 877 act as a VPN client, or to site-to-site VPNs; I can't find anything about letting single remote computers access the internal network, which is something I can do quite easily using Windows' RRAS or ISA Server. Can the Cisco 877 act as a VPN server for remote client computers? (Looks like it should, but just to be sure...) Which type of VPNs does it support? Do they require some special software on the client machines, or can they be used by standard out-of-the-box Windows computers? And, finally: how to set up this?

• How do I install a CentOS 5.5 in Xenserver?

  When I try to install CentOS 5.5 in a new VM, I get an error that the installer is unable to retrieve stage2.img. I have verified the URL and I am able to download this file from a web browser. I suspect it is a networking/routing issue, but I can't figure out what is wrong. This is a new install of XenServer 5.6 on a new server. This server is remote, so I don't have physical access to the box - only ssh access. Can anyone give me some tips on what might be wrong here? Do I need to do something special to get a net install to work? For what its worth, I see the same error trying to install Debian Woody using a similar process. Thanks.

• bind (hardlink) one directory to many places

  I need to "bind" one directory to many chrooted places. I know that I can do "mount -o bind", but this requires special processing on startup each time (run the mount). Is there a way to do it on the filesystem directly? My fs is ext4 and it seems not to support hardlinks to directories. Hardlinking all files inside is not an option too. Is thee a way to enable hardlinks to directories in ext4? Or any other options are avilable?

• Colocation near EC2

  Does anyone know any colocation providers near the Amazon's US EC2 facility(ies)? I'm needing to colocate a couple servers that need to be able to connect with EC2 with the lowest latency possible. I can't even find where their facilities are... Any ideas of the best solution or places to start looking? (ps. I'm well aware that EC2 instances can be configured to do pretty much anything. I have a special need that can't be deployed to EC2.)

• Strange. Asterisk key plays random Windows sound when pressed

  This is a new one on me. When I press the "asterisk", or * button on my number pad (but not SHIFT+8), Windows makes either a "Exclamation" or "Windows ding" sound. I haven't noticed a pattern to which sound is made. Logitech K200 keyboard No special key mapping software or Logitech software running Realtek sound to stereo through optical cable. Visual Studio 2010, Chrome, Fiddler, WinRAR, Notepad++, and Dropbox running. No unusual behavior otherwise. A solution isn't terribly important but my curiosity is both piqued and stumped. This doesn't normally happen and nothing odd has taken place otherwise. Ideas?

• Build NAS for Windows and Linux network

  I have a spare PC and I would like to setup a NAS that is accessible from Windows and Linux. I would like to avoid using Windows as an OS and would like something like Ubuntu or FreeNAS. My only concern is I don't want to have to install special software on each client. Is there a way to use Ubuntu or FreeNAS and have Windows machines access the files with installing a client on each Windows box? UPDATE Thanks for the answers. I wish I could choose more than one. • UITableView background customization strange behavior

  Hi, There is a couple of hours that I'm trying to set a tableView background image. My controller is a subclass of UITableViewController, and I simply wrote this lines of code in ViewDidLoad method. UIImage *image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"home-portrait-iphone.png"]; UIImageView *imageView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:image]; self.tableView.backgroundView = imageView; Everything looks great on the simulator, I mean, I see my table and as background view, y can see the image. But when the app is running on the device (ipod touch), I get this error: Program received signal: “SIGABRT”. and the stack says: * -[UITableView setBackgroundView:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x812e00 Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '** -[UITableView setBackgroundView:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x812e00' and the exception is thrown in the assignment, a mean this line: self.tableView.backgroundView = imageView; any ideas? • naive bayesian spam filter question

  Hi guys, I am planning to implement spam filter using Naive Bayesian classification model. Online I see a lot of info on Naive Bayesian classification, but the problem is its a lot of mathematical stuff, than clearly stating how its done. And the problem is I am more of a programmer than a mathematician (yes I had learnt Probability and Bayesian theorem back in school, but out of touch for a long long time, and I don't have luxury of learning it now (Have nearly 3 weeks to come-up with a working prototype)). So if someone can explain or point me to location where its explained for programmers than a mathematician, it would be a great help. • How can I tell which interface my Supemicro IPMI is piggybacking on?

  I've used IPMI before, but only on servers where the IPMI interface had a dedicated ethernet port. I've got an Ubuntu 10.04 server with two ethernet cards, which is supposed to have an IPMI interface on it (the motherboard is a Supermicro H8DMR-I2). From what I understand, the IPMI interface is piggybacking on one of the two NICs. Is there any way I can tell which NIC the IPMI interface is piggybacking on? Using ipmitool I've tried to set the IP address on the IPMI interface for the subnet for eth0, and then the subnet for eth1, and it's never reachable. (Can you even reach an IPMI interface from the same NIC it's piggybacking off of, or do you need to try connecting from a different machine on the network?) Also, is there anything special I need to do to enable it? I can access the IPMI interface locally using "ipmitool".

• MKMapView within UITableView

  I have a MKMapView within a UITableviewCell and I want to be able to disable scrolling of the table view when the user starts to drag within the map view. My plan had been to override the MKMapView touchesBegan/Moved etc methods and if they were called to then disable scrolling in the parent view. Scrolling in the parent view would be enabled again only when the touches in the MKMapView ended or were cancelled. My problem is that the touchesBegan/Moved methods inside MKMapView are not called - the problem is also discussed here: stackoverflow discussion. My table view is within a tab control, so I don't think I can extend UIWindow the way they describe, as there are several views that could be within the window, depending on which tab is active. How can I access the MKMapView touch events please?

• How to read a Text File Hidden Characters?

  Hi guys, I've created a text file from an application that I developed. When I send the text file to a SYSTEM Validation, they (3rd Party System) say that the file is invalid and that the file contains 3 characters in the beginning of the file that are not allowed as well special characters are not correct. They also say I need to use either ISO 8859-1 or PC850 Well, I'm using NotePad++ and I can't see that at all! What is the best text file reader for this kinda problems? EDITED I also have a MAC and just a thought I remembered opening in TextMate ... WOW! Now I know what they are talking about! How can I have the same in Windows?

• Linux Mint 13 64bit Cinnamon and Oracle Virtualbox: 3d acceleration crash

  I've recently got an interest in Linux. After some research, it looks like Linux Mint 13 cinnamon is hot and I thought I'd try it out... I'm running Windows 7 64bit and have experience with Oracle Virtual Box. So I thought it would be a good idea to try out Linux Mint inside Virtual Box. I download Linux Mint 13 64bit Cinnamon and set it up in my VM player... Nothing special about my settings. Except Linux Mint 13 Cinnamon requires 3d acceleration, and when I enable that, it crashes whenever I open the Menu in the bottom left corner of the guest OS (and some other times too)... I've seen other mentions of this problem on the web, but no solutions. Is there a solution? If not, any suggestions short of installing the OS on a partition for trying out this OS (I'm not interested in the LIve mode either - I'd really like to get the full feel for it)?

• Disable drop shadows around windows or the menu bar on OS X

  Nocturne has an option for disabling shadows around windows. But it's only available in night mode, and changing the mode (like when opening the application) causes an annoying screen flash animation. There's no way to disable the shadow under the menu bar either. MacThemes Forum / Removing the menubar dropshadow has a link to a .psd for making special desktop backgrounds that cancel out the shadow under the menu bar. But it only works if that area of the desktop picture has a low enough brightness. Some applications that cover the desktop (like DeskShade) also cover the menu bar's shadow. That's not a real solution though. Unsanity's ShadowKiller stopped working in either 10.5 or 10.6. (It does still work on 10.7.2, but the website says "NOT compatible with Mac OS X 10.6 Leopard", and I couldn't get it to work on a 10.6 installation.)   Windows Mobile 6.5.3 has a "touch friendlier" pivot at the top of the screen instead of tabs at the bottom. In the docs for PROPSHEETHEADER, the dwFlag value PSH_PIVOT is documented: PSH_PIVOT Applies to Windows Mobile 6.5.3 Replaces dialog box tabs with a simple pivot (horizontal spinner). It's supposed to bed defined in prsht.h, but it's not. My 6.5.3 and 6 headers differ only in this: #define PSM_GETPIVOTCONTROL (WM_USER + 119) #define PropSheet_GetPivotControl(hDlg) \ (HWND)SNDMSG(hDlg, PSM_GETPIVOTCONTROL, 0, 0) which is in the 6.5.3 prsht.h, but not in the 6 one. What's the value of PSH_PIVOT? Did they forget to include it?
