• Problem simulating a key press on Python for Symbian platform on a Nokia 5th ed phone

  I am developing an app for Nokia 5800 Music Express (S60 5th edition) using PyS60 (Python for S60) ,I want to simulate a KeyPress say if a message comes,I detect a message and Press a Key. There does exist a Keypress module for PyS60 for 2nd edition phones which allows this. However I have not been able to install it on my 5th ed phone. Is this module portable? If yes then how do I install it (I get certificate error) and If no then any alternatives for simulating a key press on a 5th edition touch phone?

• How to configure cookieless virtual host in Apache2?

  We run over a hundred web applications (growing daily) on a LAMP stack using Apache2 on Ubuntu 10.04. We've would like all requests to static content to be cookieless. We host applications on many different domains, a majority of which as SaSS applications. Many of the domains host instances of the applications on sub domains, ie. myapp.example.com, myapp2.example.com myapp.otherexample.com etc.. At the moment all static content is server relative to the (sub)domain requesting it. As far as I understand the process, I would need to setup a new domain, eg. staticexample.com. In this case is special configuration in the virtual host for this domain required to ensure no cookies are served? Also, would it be possible to instead use static.example.com? In this case what configurations would I need in my virtual host for this subdomain to ensure no cookies are served?

• how to make run cron on OSX 10.6.2?

  Note: this question is not about how to edit cron tab but how to make cron work I edited my cron using env EDITOR=joe crontab -e I entered 1 * * * * echo 'test' > /Users/radek/Backup/rationalvmware/test.txt and it does nothing although the cron is set up correctly. Checked via Cronnix and viewed the cron in /var/cron/tabs. Editing crontab using Cronnix gives me the same results. If I run echo 'test' > /Users/radek/Backup/rationalvmware/test.txt manually it creates a files as expected so I assume that the command I provide to cron is correct one. Is there anything special I have to do to make cron work on OSX? How can I check it the the cron is running. What's the equivalent of /var/log/messages on OSX? I can see in messages on SuSE that cron works.

  I know about bittorrent but have never used it since it tends to be mostly used for illegal download of movies and software. Typically whenever I see a legitimate use for it (Linux distros) there is also a regular download option so I haven't had the need for a client until today. There is a large (500Mb) file I want to download that appears to only be accessible via bit torrent. For a one time use, is there an online resource that converts the torrent to a normal http no-special-client-software download? If not, what is an easy to use and light client to install/uninstall on WinXP for a one time use?

• developing maven plugin, how to exclude bitkeeper files

  Hi There, I am trying to write my first maven plugin. I'd like to exclude all the java files related to the source repository I'm using, which is BitKeeper. These files live in directories called SCCS. I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this. When I add the maven-compile-plugin with excludes data, it works (the bk files are excluded) if I specify mvn compiler:compile. But this is not binding to the compile phase. So that when I run mvn compile, it blows up trying to compile a source control specific java file. Any help or pointers appreciated. Another thing to note: Everything works perfectly if I change the packaging from "maven-plugin" to "jar", which of course, I can't do permanently since this is a maven plugin I am trying to write. I'm sorry if this is answered elsewhere. I've looked around for several hours here and through the maven docs, but everything on this topic seems to be related to writing code which will be packaged in jars, not maven plugins. • Dreamweaver - template not recognising child files until they are opened

  Hi I've got a new section for a website which I have generated for a data source and it has markup for using a Dreamweaver template. When I add the new files and folders to the site , then update my template , it doesn't find the new files to update. If I open one of the new files , make a change in the template , then it recognises the new file is using the template. So it's almost like I have to touch all the files with Dreamweaver first. I've tried to open all the new files which need to use the template but then Dreamweaver CS4 crashes, I presume because of the number of files it's opening. Anyway, does anyone know if there is a way to make Dreamweaver recognise that a block of new files belong to the template , it doesn't seem to just work automatically Thanks Chris

• (iPhone) Instruments can't "Attach to Process"

  Actually, I'm using a second generation Ipod Touch. What I'm trying to do is to debug my app on XCode and look for any memory leaks on Instruments at the same time. Is it even possible? Because the "Attach to Process" submenu lists when my app is running (or debugging in this case) but all the items inside this menu are disabled. All I can do is start the app from Instruments but later I come across some bug and I want to see the variables and properties affected. I'm also new to Instruments. Please, could someone give me any advice? Help would be greatly appreciated!

  I have an Observable and an Observer. The observable does download some stuff in a background thread and calls notifyObservers to let the observers read the status. At some point in public void update the observer tries to updates the GUI ((TextView)findViewById('R.id.foo')).setText("bar"); but it seems like the observable thread calls this method, because the Observable (!!!) throws this: android.view.ViewRoot$CalledFromWrongThreadException: Only the original thread that created a view hierarchy can touch its views. at android.view.ViewRoot.checkThread(ViewRoot.java:2462) at android.view.ViewRoot.requestLayout(ViewRoot.java:512) ... at com.mynamespace.acitivty.TrackActivity.startPlay(TrackActivity.java:72) at com.mynamespace.acitivty.TrackActivity.update(TrackActivity.java:107) at java.util.Observable.notifyObservers(Observable.java:147) at java.util.Observable.notifyObservers(Observable.java:128) at com.mynamespace.module.communication.Download.stateChanged(Download.java:213) at com.mynamespace.module.communication.Download.run(Download.java:186) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:1058) Is there some way I can prevent this from happening? What are the best options for real freelancing or small business built around development skills? (I am only looking for local clients, odesk etc is not interesting) Most options open for small companies are web sites. But most clients don't want to pay much, and there are lots of people that are willing to do it for very little money. Think if you want to do money that way you must be a "web site" business. Think the best option should be to work for companies spending a lot of resources on web and db? How could I get in touch with them? Other ideas? Part of my concept is to use some off-shoring to complement my skillset, so i should be able to do PHP or Drupal even if I am not at expert level.

• Bind shift-tab to complete-backward in fish

  I found myself using the auto-complete functionality of the fish-shell, where pressing tab twice or more cycles through the suggestions. But then I accidentaly pressed tab once to many, and I wanted to go back to the previous suggestion, so I pressed shift-tab, which only appended [z to the command. For example, when I type cd D<tab><tab>: ~> cd Desktop/ I press <tab>, result: ~> cd Documents/ Now when I press <shift+tab>, the prompt changes to ~> cd Documents/[Z instead of returning to the desired: ~> cd Desktop/ How do I do this (preferably using the fish_user_key_bindings.fish file)? The documentation only provides the special function complete.

• Email client supporting multiple accounts

  I've been using Microsoft Outlook for a very long time, although one thing that has bugged me is how multiple email accounts are handled. As far as I can tell, there isn't a set and straightforward way of managing multiple accounts in one instance of outlook. For example, when I create an email, saving it as a draft will by default dump it into the first personal folder that I have open, which in my current case, is not where I want it. I would like all trash, spam, drafts, contacts, etc. etc. to be handled on a PF by PF basis. Now to my question: Is there a way to accomplish the task of email account "segregation" in Outlook (2007 is my current version), or is there another client that handles this in a more organized fashion? Note: I don't use most of the features in outlook (I hardly even need special formatting for my messages), I generally just send and read mail, and get a few attachments, so leaving Outlook wouldn't be too much of a stretch for me.

  I have an IKImageBrowserView that I want to be able to pinch-zoom using a multi-touch trackpad on a recent Mac laptop. The Cocoa Event Handling Guide, in the section Handling Gesture Events says: The magnification accessor method returns a floating-point (CGFloat) value representing a factor of magnification ..and goes on to show code that adjusts the size of the view by multiplying height and width by magnification + 1.0. This doesn't seem to be the right approach for zooming IKImageBrowserView, whose zoomValue property is clamped between 0.0 and 1.0. So, does anyone know how to interpret the event in -[NSResponder magnifyWithEvent:] to zoom IKImageBrowserView?

• Is it possible to run Modern UI Apps in Windows 7

  It seems like a basic question, but is there a way to run Windows 8 (Modern Apps) in Windows 7 (without a VM, that seems like cheating)? My hunch is that it would be possible with some sort of hack, as the code is written in the same .Net languages as many other programs. The only issue would be intercepting the finger to corner gestures, but I am not sure how much is there really (is it just a location, or a special win API call). Is there software that can do this, or options that need to be changed to make this work?

• Use trackball for scrolling in Android ListView

  hi, i have a ListView, whose content should not be selectable. i set the ListView to choiceMode="none" and set a transparent listSelector. for touch mode it acts as desired. a problem is the use of the trackball. if i try to use it for scrolling, the scroll starts after the 10th push to "down". this is caused by the invisible listSelector, which scrolls down the list until the 10th list item is "invisibily" selected. i try to override dispatchTrackballEvent and do the scrolling with scrollBy, but i did not finished this approach yet, to have a look on alternative suggestions. is there a simple solution for my problem?

• Windows Server 2012 guest machine no internet or LAN

  I have a windows server 2012 with hyper-v added as a feature. I have created a server 2012 and a windows 8 guest machines. The windows 8 machine has internet connectivity and can successfully be added to our AD domain. I can log in to the domain on this guest machine with an AD account. However the server 2012 guest machine cannot be joined to the domain and does not have internet connectivity. Strangely enough (to me!). Is there any special settings/config that I should be doing/have missed?!

  I'm creating an iTunes clone in Cocoa (don't ask why, it's not evil) and I want to be able to sync my iPod with it. This means: music, photos, videos and podcasts. I couldn't really find anything, since Google only shows articles about iPod touch and iPhone programming, but I'm actually creating a desktop application for Mac OS X, and I also want to be able to sync click-wheel iPods.   I'm trying to reverse map a block of IP using PTR record to some special name so their usage can be easily reflected by a simple nslookup. For example, here's a nslookup result: # nslookup 172.17.201.101 Server: 10.253.33.1 Address: 10.253.33.1#53 101.201.17.172.in-addr.arpa name = for.internal.use.only. And I learned that I can add PTR record for a /24 block by using $GENERATE directive $GENERATE 0-254 $.201.17.172 PTR for.internal.use.only. So here's the question: Am I doing right exposing infomation of IP address by adding PTR record? Any better idea? If the question above is YES, then how to add PTR record for a /16 IP range? I know I can write 255 lines of $GENTERATE directive but any better solution?

  I need to change the local admin password on a remote PC using a Remote Desktop Connection. I would normally do this by pressing ctrl+alt+del and selecting the change password option. But I can't send ctrl+alt+del using Remote Desktop since this "special" key series is always handled by the local client. How can I send ctrl+alt+del using Remote Desktop? Note: This question is not about how to change the password. I am aware of other ways to change the password. I am specifically asking how to send ctrl+alt+del - not how to change the password without sending those characters.

• What could cause a button on a UIActionSheet to "miss" on touches?

  I have a UIActionSheet as follows: UIActionSheet *sheet = [[UIActionSheet alloc] initWithTitle:[NSString stringWithFormat: @"Cancel New %@? Changes will be lost.", [creator propertyName]] delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:@"Stay Here" destructiveButtonTitle:@"Discard and Close" otherButtonTitles:@"Save and Close", nil]; [sheet showInView:self.view]; [sheet release]; It creates the action sheet, The buttons display, the Destructive button is on top, cancel button is on the bottom, other button (save and close) shows up in the middle, the top two buttons, (destructive and other) work fine, but the bottom button has a gap, so it is farther down than the other buttons. For some reason though, in order to press the button I need to touch where it would be if there was no gap. Touching the actual button doesn't work. Sorry if this isn't super clear, has anyone encountered something like this? I don't like to whip out the "I found a bug" card too fast, maybe I'm doing something wrong here.

• How do I connect to the serial console port os a Sunfire 280R?

  We have a Sunfire 280R (old SPARC/Solaris server) that is refusing to come up after being relocated. We're trying to connect to the serial console port, but all we get is random gibberish on the screen. We've tried both connecting with a DB25DB9 adapter and using a DB-25-RJ45 adapter with a cisco RJ45-DB9 adapter to a windows laptop. We're configuring the laptop to 9600 baud, 8 bit, 1 stop bit, no parity. We've tried both no flow control and Xon/Xoff. We get the same results hooking up to the serial port on a working SPARC server, so it's probably something in our setup rather than a fault with the server. How do we get access to to serial console so we can work out what is stopping this box from getting to the network? Is there a special sun adapter we need to get/make to get the serial link working?

• Word is ignoring my 'Match Destination Formatting' preference when pasting text

  I'm stuck using word 2007 at the office. It has options for retaining formatting, pasting as plain text, and pasting text to match the destination's formatting. That last option is the one I want, but word is blatantly ignoring it. I copy some text from a PDF, paste into word, and it retains the PDF's formatting... even though I went into options -- advanced -- changed all the dropdowns to "Match Destination Formatting". It also ignores "text only" option... It retains the exact mix of bold, italic, normal text & fonts. I can work around it by pasting to a plain text file, then pasting into word. Or I can do paste special -- unformatted text. But this is so irritating... I just want to ctrl+V and not hassle with it every single time. Is there a better fix?
