• Bad sound quality and headphones not working

  Using Ubuntu 10.10, on a HP Pavilion t3019.es, which has a Realtek ALC880 soundcard. It has 6 rear jack outputs, plus digital audio input and output, plus 3 front jacks (mic, headphones and a blue one which i don't know what's for). The sound on my computer is very low, and when i raise the volume up to 50%, it starts sounding distorted, crackling. Also, the headphones don't work when i plug them (it just keeps on playing through the speakers). I tried to comment the "/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf" file according to the soundcard and jacks in my computer, but none of the lines added worked (naturally, didn't added them at once). I found out that adding "options snd-hda-intel model=generic" to it made the sound better, but it's not as good as in Windows yet. Any ideas? Other than setting the PCM value, didn't work for me. Error log record number: 259343920016 I have just created database with name magenhto inside mysql. Previously I had cpanel and used one click installer. Hence am not aware of how to use that data inside mysql to this new system and are there any more changes.

  Until now CopySourceAsHtml only supports Visual  Studio 2008 out of the box. But it is no problem to pimp up the config-file for supporting Visual Studio 2010. Copy all three files to "%userprofile%\Documents\Visual Studio 2010\Addins" Open CopySourceAsHtml.AddIn in a text editor and change both lines with <Version>9.0</Version> to <Version>10.0</Version> Run Visual Studio 2010 and CopySourceAsHtml works fine

• Pros and Cons of Facebook's React vs. Web Components (Polymer)

  What are the main benefits of Facebook's React over the upcoming Web Components spec and vice versa (or perhaps a more apples-to-apples comparison would be to Google's Polymer library)? According to this JSConf EU talk and the React homepage, the main benefits of React are: Decoupling and increased cohesion using a component model Abstraction, Composition and Expressivity Virtual DOM & Synthetic events (which basically means they completely re-implemented the DOM and its event system) Enables modern HTML5 event stuff on IE 8 Server-side rendering Testability Bindings to SVG, VML, and <canvas> Almost everything mentioned is being integrated into browsers natively through Web Components except this virtual DOM concept (obviously). I can see how the virtual DOM and synthetic events can be beneficial today to support old browsers, but isn't throwing away a huge chunk of native browser code kind of like shooting yourself in the foot in the long term? As far as modern browsers are concerned, isn't that a lot of unnecessary overhead/reinventing of the wheel? Here are some things I think React is missing that Web Components will care of. Correct me if I'm wrong. Native browser support (read "guaranteed to be faster") Write script in a scripting language, write styles in a styling language, write markup in a markup language. • How best to automatically deal with multiple site_ruby locations?

  Is there a way to automatically append to $: variable in ruby to account for additional site_ruby locations? Ruby is installed in /usr/local/ and using gem_install will properly install the new ruby files in to /usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby. However there are some RPMs for ruby bindings to tools like shadow which we'd like to install and they install to /usr/lib/ruby/site_ruby (no local). Is there a standard way to tell ruby that this directory should also be included by default? I know scripts could dynamically update $: or they could be called with -I but it seems like this is something that should be handled in the install. Has anyone else found a clean way around this kind of problem? thanks, chuck

• Blurred refurbished TFT

  I got 3 refurbished PC+TFT 19". All TFT shows a very blurry image. I estimate the TFT's are 2-3 yrs old. The PC's running Windows7 Pro. The resolution is set to the TFT native values. It could be possible that all TFT's are broken but I have similiar models that are up to 5 yrs old, without any issue. I still think it could be a config issue but from the hardware it is possible that a TFT get broken I shows up a very blurry image. Update TFT HP 2035, grafic Intel Q35/GMA 3100, analog D-SUB connector, Manuf. date Sep 2005. Config. resolution 1600x1200, PPP 150% Without ClearType it is worst. Desktop Icon titles seems to be good and clear. But in Notepad for example the effect is that on the right of the characters is a pinky shadow.

• Classless tables possible with Datamapper?

  I have an Item class with the following attributes: itemId,name,weight,volume,price,required_skills,required_items. Since the last two attributes are going to be multivalued, I removed them and create new schemes like: itemID,required_skill (itemID is foreign key, itemID and required_skill is primary key.) Now, I'm confused how to create/use this new table. Here are the options that came to my mind: 1) The relationship between Items and Required_skills is one-to-many, so I may create a RequiredSkill class, which belongs_to Item, which in turn has n RequiredSkills. Then I can do Item.get(1).requiredskills. This sounds most logical to me. 2) Since required_skills may well be thought of as constants (since they resemble rules), I may put them into a hash or gdbm database or another sql table and query from there, which I don't prefer. My question is: is there sth like a modelless table in datamapper, where datamapper is responsible from the creation and integrity of the table and allows me to query it in datamapper way, but does not require a class, like I may do it in sql?

  I have a very large SVN repository (working copy of several gb) that has just reached its 20,000th checkin. As a bit of an interesting statistic for our team (and to partly celebrate our 20,000th checkin) I'd like to make a graph showing which folders in the repository have had the most checkins. Is there any way to do this? We mostly use integrated SVN clients in our IDE and Tortoise SVN, but I'm willing to get other tools for this one-off thing.

I know that, behind the scenes, the share is fuse-mounted and Nautilus somehow does the translation between smb:// URLs and the actual location in the file system. Is it possible to retrieve the "true" path in the file system for a GVFS-mounted share, for a directory or a file? How?   i have a problem with my sound in ubuntu 12.04. the problem is, that sometimes out of nowhere, when switching songs, or playing youtube videos, changing volume with my keyboard buttons, that the sound gets distorted(peeping, scratching). i dont know if it is related, but when i skip through music in rythmbox, there is also a little scratching noise. i can sometimes temporarly fix it: for youtube videos, i refresh the page, and sometimes it works agian normal, mostly not. for audio playback with rythmbox, i have to pause the song for sometime, and resume it, and hope that it works. before all that,i have changed my soundcard to "Analog Surround 5.1" in the sound settings from ubuntu, but i also used alsamixer to change it from 2 channels to 6 channels, since changing in ubuntu sound settings alone wasnt enough to make the other speaks work. i use a ASUS P8-H61-M LE B3 Revision Motherboard. which has a built in surround soundcard.

  I have virtual machine with Linux (Ubuntu server) which is used as prototype for other machines. Sometimes I make changes in prototype system and want to import this changes at some other machine. I know about Puppet, cfengine and FAI but want something easy for example rsync script which will work through ssh when it needed. Main goal is /etc/ directory. But I don't want to syncronize some private files for example /etc/passwd /etc/shadow and so on. I don't know all of it. Are there tips for my task ? May be someone have such rsync script.

I'd like to ask the question again after showing an interesting and new way to use the feature. • Kubuntu permanent install won't attach sound card

  I installed Kubuntu Live version and sound card visible in the volume/mixer panel. After installing the permanent version I have a dummy output where my sound card should be, therefore no sound. I re-installed the live version three times and then to permanent but the same problem each time. There is a very brief error on boot up to the permanent version that says: error. cannot attach card default. no such file or directory. I'm running Kubuntu 12.04 on a Mac G4 PPC with no other OS. I'm very new to Linux. I am able to follow instructions to help resolve this, but I'm not familiar with the OS.

• Remote Assist Windows 2008 R2 Session

  As mentioned in this kb article, it is not possible to shadow a session with multiple monitors enabled. It does mention that "Remote Assistance supports multiple monitors, and is the presently recommended solution if you need this functionality." My question is, is it possible (and if so, how) to remote assist a terminal services session. We have a few Windows Server 2008 R2 Terminal Servers running with about 10 or so users that use 2 monitors. It would be ideal to be able to remote into their session but have yet to find a viable solution. Thank you.

• Regulating brightness using Fn-keys

  I have a laptop with the newest Ubuntu-version (12.04). I want to use the FN-Keys to adjust the brightness of my screen, but it doesnt work. Normally it should be FN+left arrow/right arrow. However adjusting the volume with FN+ up arrow/down arrow works fine. I already searched for a few soulutions, for example tried to replace in the Grub-File GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" with GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor" or GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash cpi_osi=Linux" but it all doesnt work for my laptop. • No sound in World of Goo?

  I installed WorldOfGooSetup.1.41.deb and it didn't work. There was a segmentation fault error (core dumped) in terminal. I fixed that with: sudo cp /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libvorbis.so.* /opt/WorldOfGoo/libs32 sudo cp /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libvorbis.so.* /opt/WorldOfGoo/libs64 That error is new for me as I have never had it before with previous releases of Ubuntu. The game starts now but no sound effects or music is played. I can hear music with my computer, videos, etc, so it is not a volume control problem. I am using ubuntu 12.04 final release.

• Gnome 3.10 doesn't show login, Ubuntu 13.10

  I use gnome as default desktop. And I recently upgrade Ubuntu to 13.10 then upgraded gnome to 3.10. Upon restarting, it brings me to the gnome log in screen (GDM) and all I see is the top banner part so like your date, music volume, option to restart, suspend or shutdown. Hitting control+alt+delete tells me gnome display manager will log out - it does but still nothing. I am on the log in screen, but there is no user to select, like there normally is or was. I can boot into safe mode and drop down to shell but I am not sure what commands I would enter to get the login screen back. I am using the gnome PPA's and the "unstable" PPA, so I expected issues, but not this - ideas?
