Dell Alps Touchpad not working

I have a Dell 17R SE with Ubuntu 13.04. The touchpad is recognized as PS/2 mouse out of the box, giving just normal touchpad behaviour, but no tap to click, no scrolling, etc. Most answers related to that issue suggest trying an ALPS driver from dahetral.com: http://www.dahetral.com/public-download For installing I followed the steps on this page: https://www.linuxwind.org/html/dell-touchpad-driver-for-ubuntu-13-04.html Now my xinput looks like this: Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)] ? ? Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)] ? ? PS/2 Mouse id=13 [slave pointer (2)] ? ? AlpsPS/2 ALPS GlidePoint id=14 [slave pointer (2)] ? ? Logitech Bluetooth Mouse M555b id=16 [slave pointer (2)] My touchpad isn't working at all now, just the two hardware buttons for left and right mouse buttons work. Interestingly also the tap to click functions works, but only in the address bar of nautilus, nowhere (!) else. What can I do? I would even switch back to initial state, where at least the basic touchpad functionality worked, i I knew, how to get there.

Database IDs

Just a quick post, mainly to test out the new blog format but related to a question on the #sqlhelp hashtag. The question came from Justin Dearing (@zippy1981) as: So I take it database_id isn’t an ever incrementing value. #sqlhelp When a new database is created it is given the lowest available ID. This either is in a gap in IDs where a database has been dropped or the database ID is incremented by one from the highest current ID if there are no gaps to fill. To see this in action, connect to your sandbox server and try this: USE MASTER GO CREATE DATABASE cherry GO USE cherry GO SELECT DB_ID() GO CREATE DATABASE grape GO USE grape GO SELECT DB_ID() GO CREATE DATABASE melon GO USE melon GO SELECT DB_ID() GO USE MASTER GO DROP DATABASE grape GO CREATE DATABASE kiwi GO USE kiwi GO SELECT DB_ID() GO USE MASTER GO DROP DATABASE cherry DROP DATABASE melon DROP DATABASE kiwi You should get an incrementing series of database IDs as the databases are created until the last one where the new database gets allocated the ID that is missing because one was dropped.

I have a Wordpress blog. On the same domain, I have some other stuff hosted that isn't part of my WP install. I want to link to those other places on my domain from the top menu bar (nav bar) on my blog. How can I do that? JSCompress fails to compress my js file - why?

Issue: You use the online compression utility jscompress.com to compress your js file but it fails with an error. Why this may be happening and how to fix it. Possible causes: Apparently not using open and closing curly brackets in an IF statement would cause this. Well turns out this is not the case. USB device is recognized but has no address

Good day folks, I'm trying to use a USRP1 with GNURadio if anyone knows what any of that is. I am running Ubuntu on a Windows 7 machine via VMware player. When I connect this USRP1 via USB 2.0 drive to Windows 7 it is recognized as Ettus Research LLC USRP1... When I connect the device to Ubuntu through VMware, it shows: usb device fffe:0002 on my removable devices. When I run lsusb I receive the following: Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 002 Device 002: ID 0e0f:0003 VMware, Inc. Virtual Mouse Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0e0f:0002 VMware, Inc. Virtual USB Hub Bus 001 Device 004: ID fffe:0002 When I run this program that comes with the USRP driver... uhd_find_devices I receive: -------------------------------------------------- -- UHD Device 0 -------------------------------------------------- Device Address: type: usrp1 name: serial: 00000000 So when I run this program, it does recognize the fact that this device is connected. However, the device has no address, no name, and has a null serial. I need to know the device address so I can run more programs in GNURadio. Does anyone know what the problem is here? Thanks!

Using JDBC to asynchronously read large Oracle table

What strategies can be used to read every row in a large Oracle table, only once, but as fast as possible with JDBC & Java ? Consider that each row has non-trivial amounts of data (30 columns, including large text in some columns). Some strategies I can think of are: Single thread and read table. (Too slow, but listed for clarity) Read the id's into ConcurrentLinkedQueue, use threads to consume queue and query by id in batches. Read id's into a JMS queue, use workers to consume queue and query by id in batches. What other strategies could be used ? For the purpose of this question assume processing of rows to be free.

How to Overcome or fix MIXED_DML_OPERATION error in Salesforce APEX without future method ?MIXED_DML_OPERATION :-one of the worst issues we have ever faced :)While trying to perform DML operation on a setup object and non-setup object in a single action you will face this error.Following are the solutions I tried and the final one worked out :-1. perform the 1st objects DML on normal apex method. Then Call the 2nd objects DML through a future method. Drawback :- You cant get a response from the future method as its context is different and because its executing asynchronously and that its static.2. Tried the following option but it didnt work :- 1. perform the dml operation on the normal apex method. 2. tried calling the 2nd dml from trigger thinking that it would be in a different context. But it didnt work. 3. Some suggestions were given in some blogs that we could try System.runas() Unfortunately that works only for test class. 4. Finally achieved it with response synchronously through the following solution :- a. Created 2 apex:commandbuttons :- 1. <apex:commandButton value="Save and Send Activation Email" action="{!CreateContact}" rerender="junkpanel" oncomplete="callSimulateUserSave()"> Note :- Oncomplete will not work if you dont have a rerender attribute. New Sample Demonstrating the Traversing of Tree Bindings

A technique that I seem to use a fair amount, particularly in the construction of dynamic UIs is the use of a ADF Tree Binding to encode a multi-level master-detail relationship which is then expressed in the UI in some kind of looping form – usually a series of nested af:iterators, rather than the conventional tree or treetable. This technique exploits two features of the treebinding. First the fact that an treebinding can return both a collectionModel as well as a treeModel, this collectionModel can be used directly by an iterator. Secondly that the “rows” returned by the collectionModel themselves contain an attribute called .children. This attribute in turn gives access to a collection of all the children of that node which can also be iterated over. Putting this together you can represent the data encoded into a tree binding in all sorts of ways. As an example I’ve put together a very simple sample based on the HT schema and uploaded it to the ADF Sample project. I am presently experiencing random disconnections from my wireless network. It looks like it is more and more frequent (however I have not seen any clear pattern). This is killing me... How to add precedence to LALR parser like in YACC?

Please note, I am asking about writing LALR parser, not writing rules for LALR parser. What I need is... ...to mimic YACC precedence definitions. I don't know how it is implemented, and below I describe what I've done and read so far. For now I have basic LALR parser written. Next step -- adding precedence, so 2+3*4 could be parsed as 2+(3*4). I've read about precedence parsers, however I don't see how to fit such model into LALR. I don't understand two points: how to compute when insert parenthesis generator how to compute how many parenthesis the generator should create I insert generators when the symbols is taken from input and put at the stack, right? So let's say I have something like this (| denotes boundary between stack and input): ID = 5 | + ..., at this point I add open, so it gives ID = < 5 | + ..., then I read more input ID = < 5 + | 5 ... and more ID = < 5 + 5 | ; ... and more ID = < 5 + 5 ; | ... At this point I should have several reduce moves in normal LALR, but the open parenthesis does not match so I continue reading more input. Which does not make sense. So this was when problem. And about count, let's say I have such data < 2 + < 3 * 4 >. As human I can see that the last generator should create 2 parenthesis, but how to compute this? After all there could be two scenarios: ( 2 + ( 3 *4 )) -- parenthesis is used to show the outcome of generator or (2 + (( 3 * 4 ) ^ 5) because there was more input Please note that in both cases before 3 was open generator, and after 4 there was close generator. However in both cases, after reading 4 I have to reduce, so I have to know what generator "creates".

Access Master Page Controls II

Here is another way to access master page controls. This way has a bit less coding then my previous post on the subject. The scenario would be that you have a master page with a few navigation buttons at the top for users to navigate the app. After a button is clicked the corresponding aspx page would load in the ContentPlaceHolder. To make it easier for the users to see what page they are on I wanted the clicked navigation button to change color. This would be a quick visual for the user and is useful when inevitably they are interrupted with something else and cannot get back to what they were doing for a little while. Anyway the code is something like this. USB Ports In Wrong Mode, How To Use usbmodeswitch?

I haven't had access to my USB ports as media devices for a couple days now. I've been reading and researching everything I can find but I can't find a good guide for usbmodeswtich or usbms that I can decipher. The USB's are fine for power, but won't support my android phone as a media device, which is killing me because I use adb everyday, and won't support my plug and play mouse any longer. Not sure what caused the switch, though I think it may be related to the suspend issue I've read about, but the solutions in those threads I read also didn't work. Below is my system information and details. What is 'SEPA'? The Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) is a self-regulatory initiative for the European banking industry championed by the European Commission (EC) and the European Central Bank (ECB). The aim of the SEPA initiative is to improve the efficiency of cross border payments and the economies of scale by developing common standards, procedures, and infrastructure. The SEPA territory currently consists of 33 European countries -- the 28 EU states, together with Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway and Switzerland. Part of that infrastructure includes two new SEPA instruments that were introduced in 2008: SEPA Credit Transfer (a Payables transaction in Oracle EBS) SEPA Core Direct Debit (a Receivables transaction in Oracle EBS) A SEPA Credit Transfer (SCT) is an outgoing payment instrument for the execution of credit transfers in Euro between customer payment accounts located in SEPA. SEPA Credit Transfers are executed on behalf of an Originator holding a payment account with an Originator Bank in favor of a Beneficiary holding a payment account at a Beneficiary Bank. In R12 of Oracle applications, the current SEPA credit transfer implementation is based on Version 5 of the "SEPA Credit Transfer Scheme Customer-To-Bank Implementation Guidelines" and the "SEPA Credit Transfer Scheme Rulebook" issued by European Payments Council (EPC). These guidelines define the rules to be applied to the UNIFI (ISO20022) XML message standards for the implementation of the SEPA Credit Transfers in the customer-to-bank space. This format is compliant with SEPA Credit Transfer version 6. A SEPA Core Direct Debit (SDD) is an incoming payment instrument used for making domestic and cross-border payments within the 33 countries of SEPA, wherein the debtor (payer) authorizes the creditor (payee) to collect the payment from his bank account. The payment can be a fixed amount like a mortgage payment, or variable amounts such as those of invoices. The "SEPA Core Direct Debit" scheme replaces various country-specific direct debit schemes currently prevailing within the SEPA zone. SDD is based on the ISO20022 XML messaging standards, version 5.0 of the "SEPA Core Direct Debit Scheme Rulebook", and "SEPA Direct Debit Core Scheme Customer-to-Bank Implementation Guidelines". This format is also compliant with SEPA Core Direct Debit version 6. EU Regulation #260/2012 established the technical and business requirements for both instruments in euro. I was finally able to connect to avasys.jp and downloaded and installed iscan_2.28.1-3.ltdl7_amd64.deb iscan-data_1.13.0-1_all.deb. The programs appeared to install correctly. What must I do to get the usb port 001/003 recognized by xsane and sane as the port where the scanner can be located? What must I do to continue installing the scanner?

Generate MERGE statements from a table

We have a requirement to build a test environment where certain tables get reset from production every night. These are mainly lookup tables. I played around with all kinds of fancy solutions and finally settled on a series of MERGE statements. And being lazy I didn’t want to write them myself. The stored procedure below will generate a MERGE statement for the table you pass it. If you have identity values it populates those properly. You need to have primary keys on the table for the joins to be generated properly. The only thing hard coded is the source database. You’ll need to update that for your environment. We actually used a linked server in our situation. ecommerce item deleted by user, 301 rediret to HOME PAGE or 404 not found?

I know this question is someway similar to this one where they reccomend using 404, but after reading this other one where they suggest to use 301 when changing site urls (in the specific case was due to redesign/refactoring) I get a bit of confused and I hope someone could clarify for this specific example: Let's say I have an ecommerce site, let's also say the final user inserted some interesting items in the site and the ecommerce webapp created the item pages at the urls: http://...?id=20, http://...?id=30 etc. Now let's say some of these interesting items got many external links toward them from many other sites because some people found those items very interesting and linked to them. After some years the final user deletes those items, so obviously the pages/urls http://...?id=20, http://...?id=30, etc. now do not exist anymore, but still many pages on the web are linking toward them. What should the ecommerce site do now, just show a 404 page for those items? But, I'm confused, wouldn't this loose all the Google PR passed by the external links to the items pages? So isn't it better to use 301 redirect to HOME PAGE that at least passes the PR to the HOME PAGE? Thanks, EDIT: Well, according to answeres the best thing to do so far is to do a 404/410. In order to make this question more complete, I would like to talk about a special case, just to make sure I understood. properly. Let's say the user creates those items again (the ones he previously deleted at point 4), maybe he changes a bit their names and description, but they are basically the same items. The webapp has no way to know these new added items were the old items so it obviously create them as new items with new urls http://...?id=100, http://...?id=101, does it makes sense at this point to redirect 301 the old urls to the new ones? MORE EDIT (It would be VERY IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND): Well according to the clever answers received so far it seems for the special case, explained in my last EDIT, I could use 301, since it's something of not deceptive cause basically the new pages is a replacement for the old page in term of contents. This is basically done to keep the PR passed from external link and also for better user experience. But beside the user experince, that is discussible (*1), in order to preserve PR from external broken linlks why not just always use 301, In my understanding Google dislikes duplicated contents, but are we sure that 301 redirect to HOME PAGE is seen as duplicated contents for Google?! Google itself suggests to redircet 301 index.html to document root so if they consider 301 as duplicated contents wouldn't that be considered duplicated contents too?! Why do they suggest it? Let me provoke you: “why not just add a 301 to HOME PAGE for every not found page?” (*1) as a user, when I follo a broken url from some external link to some website's page I would stick more on this website if I get redirected to HOME PAGE rather than seeing a 404 page where I would think the webiste does not even exist anymore and maybe I don't even try to go to HOME PAGE of the website.
