  • switchless Infiniband between two servers on RHEL 6.3

    I have 2 servers running RHEL 6.3 which have 2 port Infiniband cards >lspci | grep -i infini 07:00.0 InfiniBand: QLogic Corp. IBA7322 QDR InfiniBand HCA (rev 02) I'm interested in connecting them directly to each other bypassing an Infiniband switch (which I don't have). Quick googling showed that at least in some configurations it's possible. I installed all RedHat Infiniband packages with yum groupinstall "Infiniband Support". However, ibv_devinfo shows that both ports in each card are down, which indicates that cables are not connected. But the cable is connected, although the LEDs are off on the cards (not a good sign). Another source of confusion for me is that according to this, RedHat doesn't come with OFED packages and I'm slightly hesitant to install them from source due to the lack of RedHat support for them... So where am I going with this? The questions I have are: is it possible to have a switchless/direct Infiniband connection between two servers the way I described above? If it's possible, do I have to use the OFED packages or can I configure everything with just the packages coming with RHEL. Why are the LEDs off on my servers even though the cable is connected? Any additional input/advice/pointers would be appreciated. P.S. I followed this guide for installation instructions. The Infiniband cards are clearly recognized by my OS and the rdma service is running. Update: I have opensm installed.   • How to multiseat with HW 3d accel on CentOS 6.3 Final?

    I would like to setup a multiseat configuration on CentOS 6.3 (two video cards, two keyboards, two mice, two monitors) and have hardware accelerated 3D on both monitors. 3D HW acceleration rules out Xephyr. I saw somewhere that recent versions of GDM (3.3 and newer?) don't support multiseat, so do I have to install KDM to make this work? If I just create a duplicate section with new device identifiers in my xorg.conf file, will this 'just work'? Using different ports on the same video card and separate keyboards, mice, and displays, the result was a desktop which spanned both monitors with both keyboards and mice acting as the same input in the GUI. I will power down and put in the new video card and report on the results soon. Both video cards are nvidia. UPDATE after putting in another NVIDIA video card, default behavior (before changing xorg.conf) is that one screen works normally, and both mice and keyboards are connected to it. Changing xorg.conf and the display manager to KDM and following the directions here https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MultiseatX#Ubuntu_10.04_.28Lucid.29 , I have 2 mirrored screens connected to separate video cards, DRI enabled, and 2 mice both connected to the same pointer. Keyboards don't do anything, however, I probably just need to fix a setting in xorg.conf I would still like to get multiseat functionality, eg. separate screens with separate input devices I have verified that the separate X processes are running (see page above) using 'ps aux | grepX [01]'

  • Some Power Supply Cable Questions?

    I am building a new PC and I haven't done this in a few years. It will have all the latest tech stuff. I got my PSU in the mail and I am looking over the cables (it has a lot) I thought it was a mudular PSU so I could only use the cables I need but instead it is a hybrid (some wires attached and some can be added/removed instead of all of then being removable). 1) So I am curious, I believe all my hard drives and optical drives are powered off of a sata power cable so does that mean I probably do not need any of the 4 pin molex cables? Or are these used for other things? 2) I know the 24-pin cable goes to my motherboard. 3) I have some 6-pin cables that are labeled pci-e which is new to me. I read these are for some grapghic cards and stuff. I have 2 grapghic cards but they do not require a seperate pci-e power wire be hooked to them. So are these pci-e wires just to power pci-express cards? Or for other things as well? 4) I have a 4pin ATX 12v wire, what is this for? 5) 8 pin EPS, what is this for?

    Hello, Is there a way to test your application's processing and handling of Paypal generated credit card errors? I'd like to verify that my application can handle a declined credit card or something like that. So is there a way to have Paypal send an error message? Or would it be better to generate a stub and use it in the testing environment? If this is the better way, how would one generate a stub? Thanks!

  • Help finding longest non-repeating path through connected nodes - Python

    I've been working on this for a couple of days now without success. Basically, I have a bunch of nodes arranged in a 2D matrix. Every node has four neighbors, except for the nodes on the sides and corners of the matrix, which have 3 and 2 neighbors, respectively. Imagine a bunch of square cards laid out side by side in a rectangular area--the project is actually simulating a sort of card/board game. Each node may or may not be connected to the nodes around it. Each node has a function (get_connections()), that returns the nodes immediately around it that it is connected to (so anywhere from 0 to 4 nodes are returned). Each node also has an "index" property, that contains it's position on the board matrix (eg '1, 4' - row 1, col 4). What I am trying to do is find the longest non-repeating path of connected nodes given a particular "start" node. I've uploaded a couple of images that should give a good idea of what I'm trying to do: In both images, the highlighted red cards are supposedly the longest path of connected cards containing the most upper-left card. However, you can see in both images that a couple of cards that should be in the path have been left out (Romania and Maldova in the first image, Greece and Turkey in the second) Here's the recursive function that I am using currently to find the longest path, given a starting node/card: def get_longest_trip(self, board, processed_connections = list(), processed_countries = list()): #Append this country to the processed countries list, #so we don't re-double over it processed_countries.append(self) possible_trips = dict() if self.get_connections(board): for i, card in enumerate(self.get_connections(board)): if card not in processed_countries: processed_connections.append((self, card)) possible_trips[i] = card.get_longest_trip(board, processed_connections, processed_countries) if possible_trips: longest_trip = [] for i, trip in possible_trips.iteritems(): trip_length = len(trip) if trip_length > len(longest_trip): longest_trip = trip longest_trip.append(self) return longest_trip else: print card_list = [] card_list.append(self) return card_list else: #If no connections from start_card, just return the start card #as the longest trip card_list = [] card_list.append(board.start_card) return card_list The problem here has to do with the processed_countries list: if you look at my first screenshot, you can see that what has happened is that when Ukraine came around, it looked at its two possible choices for longest path (Maldova-Romania, or Turkey, Bulgaria), saw that they were both equal, and chose one indiscriminantly. Now when Hungary comes around, it can't attempt to make a path through Romania (where the longest path would actually be), because Romania has been added to the processed_countries list by Ukraine. Any help on this is EXTREMELY appreciated. If you can find me a solution to this, recursive or not, I'd be happy to donate some $$ to you.   • java simple JPanel management (see screenshot)

    I have a JPanel that encapsulates two JPanels, one on top of the other. The first holds two JLabels which hold the playing cards. The second holds the player's text (name and score). However, when I remove the player's cards, the lower JPanel moves up to the top, which i would prefer that it not do. Is there a way to keep it in place regardless of whether the top JPanel is occupied or not? Thanks

I want to match two off-suit cards with a regex, what I currently have is "^[AKQJT2-9][hscd]{2}$", but this could match hands such as AhKh (suited) and AhAh. Is there a way to possibly use backreferences to say the second [hscd] cannot be the same as the firs (similarly for [AKQJT2-9])

    About a month ago I saw a portfolio website in Flash that featured a stack of cards, and each time you clicked on it, they sort of blew all over the place, thus exposing the backs as videos and pictures. Although I could easily take a bunch of 3D planes and tween them to turn and flip, these cards actually seemed to 'bend'. How is this effect achieved? Sorry I don't have the link to the example.   • Java - Is Set.contains() broken on OpenJDK 6?

    Hey, I've come across a really strange problem. I have written a simple Deck class which represents a standard 52 card deck of playing cards. The class has a method missingCards() which returns the set of all cards which have been drawn from the deck. If I try and compare two identical sets of missing cards using .equals() I'm told they are different, and if I check to see if a set contains an element that I know is there using .contains() I am returned false.     I have a bunch of boolean options for things like "accepted payment types" which can include things like cash, credit card, cheque, paypal, etc. Rather than having a half dozen booleans in my DB, I can just use an integer and assign each payment method an integer, like so PAYMENT_METHODS = ( (1<<0, 'Cash'), (1<<1, 'Credit Card'), (1<<2, 'Cheque'), (1<<3, 'Other'), ) and then query the specific bit in python to retrieve the flag. I know this means the database can't index by specific flags, but are there any other drawbacks?

  • Using different SSDs types (not only SATA based) as system drive

    Currently I have a Thinkpad X61s and want to make it both a bit faster and a bit more power efficient. For that reason I thought that adding SSD drive would make most sense. Unfortunately, because of financial reasons, buying SSD of over 200GB capacity is out of reach for me (not only it would be worth more than the rest of the laptop, but also I currently have a 500GB drive in it, so even such a drive would be kind of a downgrade for me). During preliminary testing with a cheap Transcend 4GB Class 6 (14MiB/s streaming, 9MiB/s random read) card I experienced boot times to be reduced by half so putting the OS only on it would already would be an improvement. Unfortunately, my system now is about 11GiB in size so anything less than 16GB would be constraining. In this laptop I can connect additional drives on at least 5 different ways: using SATA-ATA converter caddy in the X6 Ultrabase using internal mini PCIe slot using integrated SDHC slot using CardBus (a.k.a PCMCIA or PC Card) slot using USB Thankfully, because I use only Linux on this PC the bootability of them is irrelevant as I can put the /boot partition on internal HDD and / on any of the above mentioned Flash memories (as I already did for the SDHC test). From what I was able to research and from my own experience those options come with rather big downsides or other problems: SATA-ATA caddy It has three downsides: I have to carry the Ultrabse with me at all times (it's not really inconvenient, but those grams do add) and couldn't disconnect it when I want to disconnect the battery It makes the bay unusable for the optical drive and occasional quick access to other hard drives the only caddies I could buy have rather flaky controllers in them so putting my OS on it would hamper its stability Internal mini PCIe slot This would be an ideal solution, if only I could find real PCIe SSDs, not only devices that could talk only SATA or ATA over PCIe mechanical connection (the ones used in Dell Mini or Asus EEE). Theoretically Samsung did release such devices but I couldn't find them in retail anywhere. Integrated SDHC slot It's a nice solution with a single drawback: the fastest 16GB SDHC card on the market can only do around 35MiB/s read and 15MiB/s write while still costing like a normal 40GB SATA SSD that's 10 times faster. Not really cost-effective. CardBus (a.k.a PCMCIA or PC Card) slot Those cards are much faster than the SDHC option (there are ones that can do well over 50MiB/s read in benchmarks) and from what I could find the PCMCIA controller in my laptop does support UDMA so it should be able to deliver comparable speeds. They still cost similarly to SD cards but at least they provide streaming performance comparable to my current HDD. USB That's the worst option. Not only is it limited to 20-30MiB/s by the interface itself the drive would stick out of the laptop so it's a big no no. The question As such I think that going the "CF in a CardBus adapter" route will be the best option. My question is: did anyone try using CF cards in CardBus adapters as system drives with Linux on Thinkpad laptops? Laptops in general? What was the real-world performance? I don't have any CF cards so I can't check how well does it work with suspend/resume, or whatever it's easy to make it work in initramfs (I'm using ArchLinux and SD card was trivial — add 3 modules in single config line and rebuilding initramfs) so any tips/gotchas on this are welcome as well.
