• Rewrote GNU GPL v2 code in another language: can I change a license?

  I rewrote some parts of Mercurial (which is licensed under GNU GPL v2) in C#. Naturally, I looked a lot into original Python code and some parts are direct translations from Python to C#. Is is possible have "my code" licensed under different terms or to even make a part of a closed-source commercial application? If not, can I re-license "my-code" under LGPL, open-source it and then use this open-sourced C# library in my closed-source commercial application?

• Where can I find comscore rank?

  Recently one ad network rejected my registration stating that my site doesn't match their minimum monthly impressions, even though the site serves thrice the required page views. When I contacted them for details, their representative hinted that they are using comscore data for screening submissions. Where can I view my site's comscore ranking and details? Update I was able to find the traffic by tagging my site with comScore Direct.

• Can I change Synapse shortcut to Super/Windows key alone?

  When I'm trying to edit synapse config, it does not allow me to use Super_L as a direct shortcut for invoking it. Is there a round-about way that I can go through. When I just press the Windows/Super key, the configuration window does not acknowledge it. However, a combination shortcut (such as Super+a) do work fine. Since I'm using Precise, with unity, I'd also need a way to change the default dash behavior from Windows/Super key to something else.

• Facebook not visible in Firefox

  Does anyone know why Firefox cannot display Facebook pages, even the main front page on www.facebook.com. Works sort of okay in Chrome except for the error 500 pages that I get a lot of but I eventually, after many minutes can get a log-on. Opera cannot find facebook at all unless using a proxy. Oh!Firefox will allow viewing of Facebook when using certain proxies but no way on direct connection via my Dutch ISP - Ziggo.

  The SQL Server Analysis Service is a very interesting subject and I always have enjoyed learning about it. You can read my earlier article over here. Big Data is my new interest and I have been exploring it recently. During this weekend this blog post caught my attention and I enjoyed reading it. Big Data is the next big thing. The growth is predicted to be 60% per year till 2016. There is no single solution to the growing need of the big data available in the market right now as well there is no one solution in the business intelligence eco-system available as well. However, the need of the solution is ever increasing. I am personally Klout user. You can see my Klout profile over. I do understand what Klout is trying to achieve – a single place to measure the influence of the person. However, it works a bit mysteriously. There are plenty of social media available currently in the internet world. The biggest problem all the social media faces is that everybody opens an account but hardly people logs back in. To overcome this issue and have returned visitors Klout has come up with the system where visitors can give 5/10 K+ to other users in a particular area. Looking at all the activities Klout is doing it is indeed big consumer of the Big Data as well it is early adopter of the big data and Hadoop based system.  Klout has to 1 trillion rows of data to be analyzed as well have nearly thousand terabyte warehouse. Hive the language used for Big Data supports Ad-Hoc Queries using HiveQL there are always better solutions. The alternate solution would be using SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) along with HiveQL. As there is no direct method to achieve there are few common workarounds already in place. A new ODBC driver from Klout has broken through the limitation and SQL Server Relation Engine can be used as an intermediate stage before SSAS. • Payments - Chase Paymentech PTK Decomissioning FTP After July 2014

  Customers who have integrated Oracle Payments with Chase Paymentech payment system are being contacted by Paymentech informing them about the impending desupport of standard File Transfer Protocol (FTP).  Customers are being advised to look for alternate protocol to connect to Paymentech for credit card and direct debit payment processing.  Oracle Payments product management and development is aware of Paymentech PTK decomissioning FTP after July 2014. I mean honestly write the bootloading software in direct microarchitecture-specific machine opcode, host the operating system, interrupts, I/O, services, and graphical software and all hardware interaction, computation, and design entirely in binary. I know this is quite the leap here, but I was thinking to practice first in x86 assembly (not binary) 16-bit style. Any ideas?

  If I have widget company called "Widget Designer" and I have a direct competitor who has "Widgitator Version 5", am I allowed to target a campaign using the literal keywords "Widgitator"? Is this OK? Will they ever find out? Is it bad business? Update I can't really say what the words are, but this is a good example, if my product is called "Chair-o-matic" and it makes chairs, and a competitors is called "Chair Maker 5" can I target the keyword pair "Chair Maker"?

  Had an interesting chat with Greg about said topic and searching showed the following link to discuss this topic in some detail (no reason for me to repeat this). insert /*+ noappend parallel(t1) */ into t1 select /*+ parallel(t2) */ * from t2 generates a load table conventional and does give you a parallel insert without doing a direct path insert. As this is missing from the official documentation it is probably something few people actually know existed, so kudos to Randolf Geist.

  Google's PageSpeed plugin suggests that a website should include Last-Modified and ETag headers: Specify a cache validator "Resources that do not specify a cache validator cannot be refreshed efficiently. Specify a Last-Modified or ETag header to enable cache validation" However, Apache suggests that by not including them at all, we speed up websites by eliminating If-Modified-Since and If-None-Match requests: http://www.askapache.com/htaccess/apache-speed-last-modified.html these are in direct opposition - which should be implemented? I'm leaning towards Apache's suggestion, as when I want a file cached, I don't want it refreshed.

Using the Ubuntu Forums Chrome Start Page Once you’ve installed the extension and opened a new tab, you’ll notice quite a difference from the boring default “New Tab Page”. While you may look at this and wonder if what you see is all that there is to it, there’s actually a lot of hidden customization and functionality. The upper left corner is where you will control the content displayed in the “Ubuntu New Tab Page”. The “Buttons Toolbar” that you see at the top lets you shift between the types of content viewed, from RSS feeds to bookmarks and more. • Class instance clustering in object reference graph for multi-entries serialization

  My question is on the best way to cluster a graph of class instances (i.e. objects, the graph nodes) linked by object references (the -directed- edges of the graph) around specifically marked objects. To explain better my question, let me explain my motivation: I currently use a moderately complex system to serialize the data used in my projects: "marked" objects have a specific attributes which stores a "saving entry": the path to an associated file on disc (but it could be done for any storage type providing the suitable interface) Those object can then be serialized automatically (eg: obj.save()) The serialization of a marked object 'a' contains implicitly all objects 'b' for which 'a' has a reference to, directly s.t: a.b = b, or indirectly s.t.: a.c.b = b for some object 'c' This is very simple and basically define specific storage entries to specific objects. I have then "container" type objects that: can be serialized similarly (in fact their are or can-be "marked") they don't serialize in their storage entries the "marked" objects (with direct reference): if a and a.b are both marked, a.save() calls b.save() and stores a.b = storage_entry(b) So, if I serialize 'a', it will serialize automatically all objects that can be reached from 'a' through the object reference graph, possibly in multiples entries. That is what I want, and is usually provides the functionalities I need. However, it is very ad-hoc and there are some structural limitations to this approach: the multi-entry saving can only works through direct connections in "container" objects, and there are situations with undefined behavior such as if two "marked" objects 'a'and 'b' both have a reference to an unmarked object 'c'. In this case my system will stores 'c' in both 'a' and 'b' making an implicit copy which not only double the storage size, but also change the object reference graph after re-loading. I am thinking of generalizing the process. Apart for the practical questions on implementation (I am coding in python, and use Pickle to serialize my objects), there is a general question on the way to attach (cluster) unmarked objects to marked ones. So, my questions are: What are the important issues that should be considered? Basically why not just use any graph parsing algorithm with the "attach to last marked node" behavior. Is there any work done on this problem, practical or theoretical, that I should be aware of? Note: I added the tag graph-database because I think the answer might come from that fields, even if the question is not.
