  I had a situation today where an xml document had a directive indicating it was utf-8.  So, the code in question was reading in the “string” of that xml then attempting to de-serialize it using an Xsd generated type. What you end up with is an exception indicating that there’s an error in the Xml document at (1,1) or something to that effect. • What is the correct way to code incoming links for SEO?

  Our site is giving out 'badges' to our authors. They can post these on their personal blogs and they will serve as incoming links to our site. We want to give out the best possible code for SEO without doing anything that would get us flagged. I would like to know what you're thoughts are on the following snippet of code and if anyone has any DEFINITE advice on dos and donts with it. Also, let me know if any of it is redundant or not worth it for SEO purposes. I've kept the css inline since some of the writers would not have access to add link to external CSS.   Hi, I've got a problem with xsl:include and default namespaces which is causing the final xml document contain nodes with the xmlns="" In this synario I have 1 source document which is Plain Old XML and doesn't have a namespace: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <SourceDoc> <Description>Hello I'm the source description</Description> <Description>Hello I'm the source description 2</Description> <Description/> <Title>Hello I'm the title</Title> </SourceDoc> This document is transformed into 2 different xml documents each with their own default namespace. • css, unordered list not displaying icon in right place...

  I'm really frustrated with this one. A few weeks ago I got it working in both firefox and ie just fine. Went back today to do some testing and found a problem with the display in firefox and I've been searching the code but can't find anything. I could use a few tips from anyone willing, I'm sure I'm looking at the wrong things. I upgraded my firefox version but I imagine my code is broke, not firefox. I'm assuming the problem is somewhere in my css file, but I'm not sure. Here's what I've confirmed so far. There don't seem to be conflicts in other css files with < ul 's or < li 's that may be overriding settings. The other confirmation is that This works fine in Internet Explorer...therefore I must be an idiot, because its usually been the other way around (working in FF, but failing in IE). • How to create a HTML5 + SVG document using the PHP XSLTProcessor

  For a little project about XML I try to use HTML5 as it has SVG and WAI-ARIA Support. I also want to use a XSL stylesheet for my document. But I can't get a valid HTML5 document with a nested SVG. Here are some version I tested so far: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"> <xsl:output indent="yes" method="xml"/> <xsl:template match="/"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> // content with the svg tag in the body </html> </xsl:template> </xsl:stylesheet> In combination with header('Content-Type: application/xml'); it works and produces this HTML output: <?xml version="1.0"?> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> // content with the svg tag in the body </html> But it is not HTML5 and without a DOCTYPE I get a lot of errors on the W3 validator. Using header('Content-Type: image/xhtml+svg'); or header('Content-Type: text/html'); there is no XML parsing error, but the page will not show the SVG as a graph but as text (without the tags). Can anyone tell me how to avoid the meta tag to be inserted or how to set a propper Content-Type that will make the browser rendern the SVG. Or even any other hint to get this working. I would really like to keep HTML5 to be able to keep the WAI-ARIA Landmark Roles an the HTML5 tags like NAV and FOOTER.

• Adding a div layer on top of a jquery carousel. Tough one.

  Hey everyone, I have a tough one, well it's tough for me because I'm kinda new to the whole jQuery carousel thing, never built one before this project. Here's my problem. If you go to the TEST SITE you will see a scroller with a blue background about half way down the page. If you mouse onto the "data analytics" slide you should see a black box fade in. Here is my dilemma. I want that black box to be a menu that's connected to the data analytics slide. I've done a mock up for you so you can see what I'm talking about. Here is my scroller code. • s3fs Input/output error

  i'm trying to set up a backup system with s3fs and the amazon s3 service. i followed this 2 guides: http://qugstart.com/blog/linux/how-to-mount-an-amazon-s3-bucket-as-virtual-drive-on-centos-5-2/ http://blog.eberly.org/2008/10/27/how-i-automated-my-backups-to-amazon-s3-using-rsync/ anyway making a tail to the /var/log/messages i get: Aug 28 13:37:46 server s3fs:###response=403 i already tried creating the authentication file on /etc/passwd-s3fs and setting there the access and private key, passing it trough the command line, i checked several times the credentials and i used it with s3fox, and is working. i also have set the time of the machine (with the date command) to be the same as the amazon S3 servers (i got the time of the S3 server uploading a file with the file manager) not only rsync don't work, commands like ls or cp in the /mnt/s3 didn't work also. any help of how i can solve/debug this? • IMAP email migration from Apptix to Office 365

  I am having issues setting up a migration from Apptix to Office 365 of 41 users in my company. I've found a couple guides on the Microsoft website about how to do it (Thank you Google) but I keep coming up with problems. I am trying to set up a mailbox migration through IMAP to get all of my users' emails over to Office 365 before we make the transition over from Apptix. One of the forums suggested using IMAP, since a CSV file can be uploaded to Office 365 and it will check for incoming mail for each user every 24 hours. My problem is that when I do this, I just get errors. • ifilter not working with MOSS 2007, cant crawl .pdf

  Installed ifilter and followed the guides: http://msmvps.com/blogs/sundar_narasiman/archive/2008/02/06/configuring-moss-2007-to-search-pdf-documents-install-and-configure-pdf-ifilters.aspx and the accompanying link to the MS hotfix.. I have initiated multiple crawls that don't show any .pdf documents, let alone the contents of the .pdfs (I did constantly upload test documents with real content). In the 'file types' menu of the shared servies, it didn't show the pdf icon as I think it was meant to, it also lists 'pdf' as filetype 'AcroExch.Document', is this correct? Any ideas anyone?

• Samba Domain Controller corrupts Windows workstations profiles?

  Oooooook, so here's my problem. I have a Mac OS X Server 10.5 to which Windows XP workstations are bound. I happened upon some errors and warnings in my log, from Userenv. Namely, error 1504, 1509. The warning complains that some setting on the share about offline caching. I found some guides to correct this if the problem was referring to a Windows server, but since those are Samba shares, the guide of course doesn't apply. Does anyone know what to do so that my profiles don't corrupt, and I still can use roaming profiles so that they're backed up by the server?

• Using dnsmasq dns server on a laptop for a locally hosted tld

  Hi, I'm running a working apache install with mod vhost_alias on a laptop. Everything works, but I have to manually add hosts in my /etc/hosts file. I'd like to install dnsmasq to point a tld to my local machine (this is not the problem, I know how to add a wildcard tld to dnsmasq), but how do I make it so that it will go look for other dns servers upstream? Remember I'm talking about a laptop, so I will be working on various wifi hotspots, with different default gateways, dns servers, etc. I've searched for quite some time but the only things I find are guides that require you to hardcode the upstream servers wich is a no-go for me. Any help is appreciated!

• Configure FastCGI for Python

  I have nginx running on a VM and I want to run a Trac site. I need to run a python FastCGI server, but I cannot tell which is the server to use. I have found the following: <a href="http://redmine.lighttpd.net/projects/spawn-fcgi">Lighttpd spawn-fcgi</a> But this seems to require that you compile lighttpd just to get the fcgi server, which is weird. <a href="http://svn.saddi.com/py-lib/trunk/fcgi.py">fcgi.py</a> But this one seems to be depreciated. At the very least it is poorly documented. <a href="http://trac.saddi.com/flup">flup</a> This one comes with dependencies on ubuntu (python-cheetah{a} python-mysqldb{a} python-webpy{a}) that seem unnecessary. Also poorly documented. Are their any recent guides for setting this up. Trac's own FastCGI setup page seems to miss some steps.

• Build a RAID-5 USB Array or NAS?

  I'm looking to build a RAID-5 or RAID-6 hard disk array to be used as a centralized backup location for my home network. I have a lot of 4-8GB DVD ISO files which I intend to serve over the network to my TV using DLNA or something similar. I need decent write times, fast read times, and preferably a way to connect this array to my network router over USB. I'll probably be using ext3/4 on it (I'd use btrfs if my router supported it :-[). Is there a way to build a RAID array that is accessible over USB? I'm kind of new to this and most guides assume you're running a RAID array inside your machine. I need at least 5TB of space, and I need redundancy, so I prefer RAID-6. How can I go about accomplishing this?

• Remote RAID Control ESXi Dell PowerEdge 2950 OpenManage

  I was wondering how one can add a drive into an existing RAID array while ESXi is still running. I have read that you are able to use Dell OpenManage to do this. I have installed OMSA 7.0 on the VMWare ESXi host (5.0 and fully updated) and I've installed OpenManage Essentials on a Windows Server 2008 R2 guest. The issue that I'm having is that OpenManage is unable to see my RAID controller. I have seen videos and photos as parts of guides on how to do this online, so I would assume that the functionality exists and I just have it set up wrong.

• Bugzilla - How to setup MTA that will receive Gmail to create bugs

  I have been looking for a while on setting up an MTA for bugzilla to receive bugs via email and am not really seeing any detailed guides. Currently I am using gmail as the outbound smtp for messages, but I do not have a solution for the receiving of emails as bugs. I am assuming I would setup an MTA and it would grab down the emails and then bugzilla would read them somehow. I am unsure of this process/a solution for this; Any detailed help or direction would be great. Distro: Ubuntu 11.10

• Tape Storage - How do I setup a tape backup system for use with my NAS

  I currently have a QNAP NAS with a raid 5 config (~600gb storage) but don't have a reliable backup solution. I've heard great things about tape backup systems (reliability, durability, etc..). How can I go about setting up a tape backup system? The tape drives seem very expensive (1k+ for a decent one, more than the price of my NAS). What are the important specs to compare and features to take into consideration? Edit: Does anyone have links to some good resources? There is a ton of articles, guides, and sites on this subject, not sure where to start.

• Filezilla/Puttygen doesn't recognize private key file

  I have generated a key for an Ubuntu Virtual Machine running on Azure Cloud Services http://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/manage/linux/how-to-guides/ssh-into-linux/ openssl req -x509 -nodes -days 365 -newkey rsa:2048 -keyout myPrivateKey.key -out myCert.pem When loading the private key into Filezilla, it asks me to convert the format, however, when converting the key it fails, the same happens with puttygen from linux console, using this: puttygen myPrivateKey.key -o myKey.ppk In both cases I have the following error: puttygen: error loading `myPrivateKey.key': unrecognised key type By the way, this key doesn't have a passphrase. I found an old thread about it, but I'm using 0.6.3 version which is newer than what this thread recommends: http://fixunix.com/ssh/541874-puttygen-unable-import-openssh-key.html I've managed to solve this issue by using another gui client Fugu for Mac, but one of my co-worker uses windows and I still have to figure this out. Since Filezilla is the de-facto ftp client, I thought it would be easier to solve it there. Thanks

  I am trying to establish a IPSEC vpn, between an office DSL connection and a single virtual machine. I have done hub-spoke stuff before with cisco and fortinet routers, never hardware <-- software. Fortigate 60B - 10.20.1.1/24 Windows Server 2008 r2 Installed On VM I have seen some guides, to do this with juniper screenos (guide uses first release of 2008, they introduced windows firewall with advanced security), but none using fortinet equipment. Anyone ever been successful? Or should I install RAS/PPTP, so I can dial in?

• How to setup separate MySQL and PHP VPS servers

  Someone recommended I should have my MySQL server separate from my Apache/PHP server in case of hacking and such. By visiting linode, slicehost and various articles here on serverfault I've managed to cobble together a decent set of instructions on how to do the Apache/PHP bit. I'm using Rackspace VPS and they provide an internal IP for each server. If I setup a MySQL VPS, should I assume that I would just add the internal IP for the database host? And I guess that I would only need to open up my default ssh port and mysql ports and install phpmyadmin on there? Ideally I would have webserver.mydomain.com and dbserver.mydomain.com (two 256mb VPS's) with servermin on webserver.mydomain.com and phpmyadmin on dbserver.mydomain.com. If anyone has any guides or advice on how to setup this type of solution I'd be more then grateful!

• Linux openSUSE 11.2 on VAIO Z890T

  I have a VAIO Z-series (VGN-Z890T) and I want to install openSUSE 11.2. I found some guides to fix the problem for the video card switch, but all for older models, those preconfigured with windows vista. It looks like newer model use a different bios configuration to support hot swap between cards in Windows 7 and this change breaks the solution to my problem. I'm not an experienced linux user, but i was using it recently on my old computer ind definitively I want it on my laptop. I installed openSUSE once and i was trying and trying to solve it until I finished reinstall again and use a fresh installation. My question is: Does anyone has installed and configured successfully openSUSE on one of the latest vaio z laptops???

• Mail Enabled Sharepoint 2010 Loop Detected

  I have setup a small Sharepoint 2010 deployment and it is working fine, for now. I have run through one of the more popular step by step guides to mail enable the install and what I have is internal and external mail going to my mail enabled list hitting my Exchange 2010 server (on another Win2k8R2 box) and sitting in the submissions queue with a Loop Detected error and they progres no further. Everything appears OK as per the guide. I have setup an SMTP role on the Sharepoint box, as per the guide. I have setup a new Send Conenctor on the Exchange 2010 server, as per the guide. Any ideas on troubleshooting here?

• Install Windows 7 x64 from a separate partition on same hard drive (no DVD/USB)?

  I'm currently running Windows XP 32-bit, and want to install Windows 7 64-bit. However, my DVD drive is broken, and the only USB sticks I have lying around are USB 1.1 only (SLOW!). So I tried (as suggested would work for a USB stick by several online guides): Created new primary partition (formatted NTFS) Set that partition as active Copied contents of Win7 x64 ISO Downloaded the 32-bit bootsect.exe Ran bootsect /nt60 F: However, when I boot into the new partition, I only see a blinking cursor on a blank screen; nothing happens. Any ideas?

• NFS failover WITHOUT DRBD?

  So I am trying to set up a redundant NFS share in a cloud environment(all links internal, half gig links), and I am looking into using heartbeat for failover, but all the guides seem to be about combining DRBD and heartbeat to create a robust environment. If need be I can do that, but since my content is almost completely static, I would like to avoid the extra overhead and complexity of DRBD if possible, but still be able to fail over if one of the NFS servers fails. Is it possible to use heartbeat with NFS to achieve high-availability without using DRBD to copy the blocks? I am not married to NFSv4, so if NFSv3 over UDP is necessary, that won't be a problem(only a very small number of clients will be connecting to the share) Any comments are appreciated.
