Emacs: selective c-auto-newline

When c-auto-newline is set to non-nil, it re-indents the current line and inserts a carriage return and then indents the new line. However. I'm using 1TBS indent-style, which means if/else statements are made like this: if (n == 1) { exit(EXIT_SUCCESS); } else { perror("n"); } Also, I write do/while write loops like this: do { printf("%d\n", n++); } while (n < 64); As such, while I do want a newline automatically inserted after every opening brace and semicolon, I don't want newlines to be automatically inserted after an if statement or do loop is concluded with a closing brace. How can I have GNU Emacs (23.2.1, *nix) selectively insert newlines like that? Along the same lines, can I have Emacs insert an opening brace, a newline, and a closing brace on another newline, while putting the cursor in the middle of the two braces after closing parentheses following an if statement, function declaration, and the like?

I have a couple of things i could do: Find a good working application and edit it so it works with the rest of the project Find good parts for a editor and make it working my self (syntax highlighter, auto-indent, autocompletion, etc.) Combination of those two Does anybody know a good editor or have tips for this project or a editor? There are many quotes from famous computer scientists that have become the wisdom that guides our profession. For example: "Premature optimization is the root of all evil in programming." Donald Knuth (citing Hoare's Dictum) "Everyone knows that debugging is twice as hard as writing a program in the first place. So if you're as clever as you can be when you write it, how will you ever debug it?" Brian Kernighan And so on. My question is, what are your favorite words of wisdom about programming from someone who is not famous? Was it a friend, a coworker, or a teacher, or a family member? For example, a technical writer friend of mine said: "You can't get the right answers unless you ask the right questions." Thanks for all the contributions! The answer I selected was (a) specifically coding-related, and (b) stated by someone who is not technically famous (though he has a popular blog and a podcast and runs StackOverflow). I.e. he's no Bill Gates or Yogi Berra.

Hello, I am loading am email with IMAP and parsing it with mail. This works very well, however the mail.body.decoded field contains a lot of formatting. In-Application Support Made Easier

With the availability of Oracle UPK 3.6.1 and Enablement Service Pack 1 for Oracle UPK 3.6.1 (Oracle Support login required for both), there are quite a few changes for content admins to absorb. In addition to the support added for dozens of application releases, patches and new target applications, we've also added features to make implementing and using In-Application Support even easier. First, the old Help Menu Integration Guides have been updated and combined into a single In-Application Support Guide. If you integrate UPK content for user assistance, or if you're interested in doing so, read the new guide! It covers all the integration steps, including a section on the new In-Application Support Configuration Utility. If you've integrated content in multiple languages, or if you've ever had to make configuration changes for UPK Help Integration, then you know how cumbersome it was to manually edit javascript files. No longer! The Player now includes a configuration utility that provides a web browser interface for setting all In-Application Support options. From the main screen, you see a list of applications covered by the published content. Clicking on an application name takes you to the edit configuration screen where you can set all Player options for that application. No more digging through the Player folders to find the right javascript file to edit. No complicated javascript syntax to make changes. And with Enablement Service Pack 1 we've added a new feature we're calling the Tabbed Gateway. The Tabbed Gateway is a top-level navigation bar for Help Integration. And all tabs, links, and text are controlled with the Configuration Utility... I think the Tabbed Gateway is a really cool and exciting feature for content launch. I have been able to get it working using the standard unicode bullet character (•) but I just can't seem to get it working for square brackets. I have tried using ■, but that does not seem to work. [MINI HOW-TO] Create Keyboard Shortcuts to Applications in Windows

Do you need just one or a few special keyboard shortcuts for your favorite program(s)? A quick modification to program shortcuts will get you up and running without installing additional software. Creating New Keyboard Shortcuts Go to the start menu shortcut for the program, right-click on it, and select properties. When the properties window opens click in the shortcut key text area. All that you need to do is choose an appropriate letter for the program (i.e. O for Opera, E for Editra, etc.) and type it in the blank. You will not need to type any other keys or combination in…the “Ctrl + Alt +” will be automatically entered for you as soon as you type the letter in. Click OK to finish creating the new keyboard shortcut. Those new keyboard shortcuts will speed up access to your favorite software. Another example from our system using “I” for Iron Browser. Certainly much quicker than using the start menu. Conclusion If you only need one or just a few special keyboard shortcuts then this method provides a quick and simple solution. UBJsonReader (Libgdx) unable to to read UBJson from Python(Blender)

I am working on an export tool from Blender to Libgdx, exports like custom attributes and other information (Almost completed), this is a very cool tool that will speed up a lot your works, after I completed I will send to public to contribute forum, Export format is uses python's Standard Json module and readable text, it of course works fine, but I wanna also have a Binary Json export for faster load, so users can Export Straight to Libgdx, but after I search I found that UBJson with draft9.py (simpleubjson 0.6.1) encode is seems matches with one FBXConverter's UBJsonWriter( Xoppa wrote), but when I export, I am not able to read the file, and send this errors (Java heap space) seems this is a different between byte sizes in UBJson(python) and UBJsonReader. how can I write a correct one in python that matches with Libgdx's UBJsonReader, and would be cross-platform? Set Firefox to Be On Top of Other Windows

Sometimes you need to keep a close watch on a website and have Firefox remain in view regardless of the other apps running. See how you can keep Firefox in constant view with the Always on Top extension. Before If you have a webpage that you like to watch throughout the day but have a very busy desktop then Firefox can get lost in all of the clutter. Note: You can read about the ReloadEvery extension here. Even with a widescreen monitor sometimes there is just not enough room to keep everything in easy view while you are working on something. Always on Top in Action Once you have installed the extension you will notice that a new Toolbar Button has automatically been added to your Navigation Toolbar. At the moment this is the only on/off switch for the extension. Clicking on the Toolbar Button will enable Always on Top and the button will change to a blue color to indicate its’ active status. Click on it again to disable it. Do anything that you like in the other windows…Firefox will still be the topmost window and easy to view. Conclusion The Always on Top extension was made to do just one thing and it does it very well…keeping your Firefox window on top. Being able to turn it on or off without digging through a bunch of menus adds that extra level of convenience. Formatting an indented list in CSS

Hi, Let's say I have a list, with an arbitrary number of indentation levels, like so: Item Item Item Item Item Item Item Item Item Item Item If I'm displaying this list in an HTML document, how can I use CSS to handle the indentation? There might be an arbitrary number of indentation levels (although in practice there isn't going to be more than 5 or so). I don't want to create an "indent1" class that indents 10 pixels, an "indent2" class that indents 20 pixels, etc - that's clumsy. Is it possible to create a general rule that will indent by a certain distance based on an attribute value, or the position of an element in the hierarchy?

Create a Shortcut To Group Policy Editor in Windows 7

If you’re a system administrator and find yourself making changes in Group Policy Editor, you might want to make a shortcut to it. Here we look at creating a shortcut, pinning it to the Taskbar, and adding it to Control Panel. Note: Local Group Policy Editor is not available in Home versions of Windows 7. Typing gpedit.msc into the search box in the Start menu to access Group Policy Editor can get old fast. To create a shortcut, right-click on the desktop and select New \ Shortcut. Next type or copy the following path into the location field and click Next. c:\windows\system32\gpedit.msc Then give your shortcut a name…something like Group Policy, or whatever you want it to be and click Finish. Now you have your Group Policy shortcut… If you want it on the Taskbar just drag it there to pin it. And that’s all there is to it! file error /boot/grub/i386-pc/normal.mod trying to repair boot, live dvd install probleml

I have seen that there are a lot of threads about this problem. I had Windows 8 installed on my series 3 samsung i5 computer and I tried to install ubuntu 13.04. This is what I did: Because of the secure boot I can't install ubuntu from the dvd. So I went in the bios and disabled secure boot and enabled ''CSM''. I went out of the bios and windows 8 couldn't boot more. So I follow a guide on this thread ( Installing on a Pre-Installed Windows 8 System (UEFI Supported) ) and on ubuntu I tried to repair the boot by inserting this code in the terminal: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install boot-repair Then I ran boot-repair and I follow all the steps. Then I reboot the sistem and saw the black screen that says: error: file '/boot/grub/i386-pc/normal mod' not found grub rescure> Now I saw a lot of guides about this problem but I can't understand how to reistall ubuntu trough the live dvd that I used to install it the first time... I put it in the computer but nothing appears.. so what should I do now? I'm a noob on ubuntu and I have read all the things about this grub 2 install and know where the problem comes from but how to start the dvd??

End User Documentation Enhancements The following enhancements have been made to the documentation: New RETL Installation GuideNew in Release 13.2.4, the RETL Installation Guide includes complete instructions to install and configure RETL 13.2.4. Installation instructions were previously in the Programmer’s Guide. As part of this enhancement, content was added to and tested in the RETL Installation Guide to ensure that it contain similar chapters and sections included in other Oracle Retail Installation Guides. Template Creator documentation, under the RIB product umbrellaThe Oracle Retail Functional Artifact Guide and the Oracle Retail Functional ArtifactGenerator Guide contain new information about a new tool called the Template Creator. The Functional Artifacts Generator tool has been enhanced to generate custom and localized payloads business objects on demand, based on Oracle Retail Functional Artifact rules. A new tool called the Template Creator has been provided to create the placeholder XSDs and the import hooks in the base objects on an as-needed basis. In other words, this tool constructs the appropriate placeholders in the packaging structure in the correct locations. The Artifact Generator tools, including the Template Creator, can be used either as a command line or GUI tool set. Oracle RDBMS Server 11gR2 Pre-Install RPM for Oracle Linux 6 has been released

Now that the certification of the Oracle Database 11g R2 with Oracle Linux 6 and the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel has been announced, we are glad to announce the availability of oracle-rdbms-server-11gR2-preinstall, the Oracle RDBMS Server 11gR2 Pre-install RPM package (formerly known as oracle-validated). Designed specifically for Oracle Linux 6, this RPM aids in the installation of the Oracle Database. In order to install the Oracle Database 11g R2 on Oracle Linux 6, your system needs to meet a few prerequisites, as outlined in the Linux Installation Guides. Using the Oracle RDBMS Server 11gR2 Pre-install RPM, you can complete most of the pre-installation configuration tasks. which is now available from the Unbreakable Linux Network, or via the Oracle public yum repository. The pre-install package is available for x86_64 only. Specifically, the package: Causes the download and installation of various software packages and specific versions needed for database installation, with package dependencies resolved via yum Creates the user oracle and the groups oinstall and dba, which are the defaults used during database installation Modifies kernel parameters in /etc/sysctl.conf to change settings for shared memory, semaphores, the maximum number of file descriptors, and so on Sets hard and soft shell resource limits in /etc/security/limits.conf, such as the number of open files, the number of processes, and stack size to the minimum required based on the Oracle Database 11g Release 2 Server installation requirements Sets numa=off in the kernel boot parameters for x86_64 machines Please see the release announcement for further details and instructions. While the article refers to Oracle Linux 5 and the former "oracle-validated" package, the steps for Oracle Linux 6 are still very similar (we're looking into updating that article for Oracle Linux 6).

Connecting MS SQL using freetds and unixodbc: isql - no default driver specified

I am trying to connect to the MS SQL database using freetds and unixodbc. I have read various guides how to do it, but no one works fine for me. When I try to connect to the database using isql tool, I get the following error: $ isql -v TS username password [IM002][unixODBC][Driver Manager]Data source name not found, and no default driver specified [ISQL]ERROR: Could not SQLConnect Have anybody already successfully established the connection to the MS SQL database using freetds and unixodbc on Ubuntu 12.04? I would really appreciate some help. Below is the procedure I used to configure the freetds and unixodbc. Thanks for your help in advance! How to re-configure graphics from Intel integrated to Intel / ATI switchable?

There are lots of 'how to get switchable graphics to work' guides but I found none on how to configure a system for switchable graphics operation on Ubuntu from the ground up, nor explaining the current driver situation for particular computer models (integrated+discrete combinations). Example: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HybridGraphics My system being mature and on Intel integrated card also makes things complicated. System information: Ubuntu 12.04 amd64, installed clean with system configured to use only the integrated Intel card Lenovo Thinkpad T500 Intel GMA 4500MHD / ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 Current situation: Mature and up-to-date system with no configuration changes to what's given above. I've made a backup image of the system (Clonezilla) so regardless of what's written below let's assume it's our starting point. If something in What I have already tried is not clear you may as well diregard it. What I have already tried: Configuring BIOS to switchable graphics and: Installing Additional Hardware drivers - returned an error. Installing proprietary amd-driver-installer-12.6-legacy-x86.x86_64.run automatically - system starts to 'low-graphics mode'. Tried fixing as per https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI#Manually_installing_Catalyst_12.6.2C_special_case_for_Intel.2BAC8-ATI_hybrid_graphics Got lost, gave up. Please note that while configuring BIOS for integrated graphics only is pretty straightforward, configuring for switchable graphics is not.

Restoring GRUB2 on Software RAID 0 after Windows 7 wiped it using Ubuntu 10.10 LiveCD

I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my system. However, I need to install Windows 7 back, and I expect that it would alter GRUB and it did. Right now, my partition on my Software RAID 0 looks like this: nvidia_acajefec1 is Ubuntu 10.10 and nvidia_acajefec3 is Windows 7. I've been following some guides around and I am always stuck at GRUB not able to detect the usual RAID content. I've tried running: sudo grub > root (hd0,0) GRUB complains it couldn't find my hard disk. So I tried: find (hd0,0) And it complains that it couldn't find anything. So I tried: find /boot/grub/stage1 It said "file not found". Here's the text from the console: ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ grub Probing devices to guess BIOS drives. This may take a long time. [ Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists the possible completions of a device/filename. ] grub> root (hd0,0) root (hd0,0) Error 21: Selected disk does not exist grub> find /boot/grub/stage1 find /boot/grub/stage1 Error 15: File not found Fortunately, I got one person suggesting that what I've been trying to do is for GRUB Legacy, not GRUB2. So I went to the suggested website, ** (http://grub.enbug.org/Grub2LiveCdInstallGuide) **try to look around, and try: ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo fdisk -l Unable to seek on /dev/sda This is just the step 2 of the instruction in the http://grub.enbug.org/Grub2LiveCdInstallGuide and I cannot proceed because it cannot seek /dev/sda. However, ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo dmraid -r /dev/sdb: nvidia, "nvidia_acajefec", stripe, ok, 488397166 sectors, data@ 0 /dev/sda: nvidia, "nvidia_acajefec", stripe, ok, 488397166 sectors, data@ 0 So what now? Do you have an idea for how to make fdisk see my RAID array on live cd (Ubuntu 10.10)? Honestly, I am lost, very lost in trying to restore GRUB2 on this software RAID 0 system right now.

How to Best Optimize up Model Transforms, Import 3DS Animations Into XNA 4.0?

Relative beginner to XNA, but trying to build a multi-purpose (3D) game frameworking in XNA 4. Been using the Reed (O'Reilly) and Cawood/McGee (McGraw Hill) guides. My question is multi-faceted and involves how to most efficiently handle models. I'm using 3DS Max 2010 with kw-Xport to ship out my models as .X files. Solved an early problem by using my depth stencil state. My models are now loading properly (yay!) and I have basic bounding working, I just want to optimize transforming models and get animations working as a next step. My questions on models are: 1. Do you have any suggestions for good resources on exporting 3DS animations to XNA? I've seen some resources on how to handle animations in XNA, but most skimp on basic topics of how to convert multi-animation 3DS files. For example how do I take one big long string of keyframed animations (say running, frame 5-20, climbing frames 25-45, etc.) and turned them into named XNA animations. To my understanding every XNA animation has to have a name, but I haven't seen any tutorials on creating a new named animation from a subset of frames. 2. Is it faster to load a model once and animate/transform that base model on the fly @ draw time, or to load multiple models? My game will have multiple enemies, and I've already seen some lagginess in XNA, so II want to make my code efficient... 3. I've heard people on app hub talking about making custom content processors for models-- what is the benefit of this? Does it speed up transforming or animating the models? If so, can you point me towards any good (model-centric) tutorials? (I've built a custom height map content processor to generate terrain, following Cawood's examples, I'm just a bit confused as to how a model content processor would be implemented.)

How to enable services Discovery API in GoogleCL?

There are bits and pieces of information all over the place but I'm trying to put it all together so that GoogleCL finally accesses more than the initial 7 services. Does anyone know of a step-by-step? Right now any attempt outside these result in the error message: google tasks list Did you specify the service correctly? Must be one of 'picasa', 'blogger', 'youtube', 'docs', 'contacts', 'calendar', 'finance' I installed GoogleCL from the Ubuntu repos, authenticated a few bundled services like contacts, docs etc. and those work great, giving me access to do certain operations like upload from the command line. C++ template name pretty print

hello. I have need to print indented template names for debugging purposes. For example, instead of single-line, I would like to indent name like this: boost::phoenix::actor< boost::phoenix::composite< boost::phoenix::less_eval, boost::fusion::vector< boost::phoenix::argument<0>, boost::phoenix::argument<1>, I started writing my own but is getting to be complicated. Is there an existing solution? if there is not one, can you help me to finish up my implementation? I will post it if so. Thanks
