  I've setup the web server successfully on Mac Leopard Server and sites work fine within the DocumentRoot directory. I have mounted a volume which has restricted access to users within a group. I would like to point the web server to directories within this volume. Can I add the user the web service is using to the group that has access to this Volume, if so: how do I find out what the user is? I can confirm the web server is pointing to the right directory as log files show the full directory path. When you access the site's URL, it shows Access Forbidden.

• Tie stock quote value to cell in Excel 2011 Mac

  I've been working on a mock stock portfolio in Excel, and I've been looking for ways to automatically update the data, eg. stock price and P/E ratio. I have tried using a web query to MSN Money, but that just brings up the whole stock quote across multiple cells, I want data to be updated in individual cells only. The only web query solution I can think of is if someone hosted a website where each value in the stock quote was saved on a different HTML file. I could then WebQuery to that file for each cell requiring that value. However, no website offers this. So in essence, is there any tool on Excel 2011 Mac that will let me pull individual values from a stock quote and assign them to a single cell?

• Nokia backup on a Mac

  Hi there! As I have to bring my phone to a shop for repair, I want to backup my contacts, calenders and text-messages. My Nokia connects perfectly through Bluetooth with iSync. One baddy, however is that text-messages are nowhere to be found or for the matter of fact, impossible to backup from the phone using iSync. Is there a graceful, free application for Mac that would be able to backup (and later restore) the messages on my phone? The worst possible scenario would include me to write a script that uses the Hayes command set and kermit-ize all SMS's (hundreds at least), so a nice click-and-play solution would be nice to know about. I don't consider applications like Parallel/CrossOver as a solution, as PC Suite is quite buggy with those (which does have the functionality to backup SMS and e-mail). Many thanks!

  I have my own wifi network at home & recently when I checked the active clients on the wifi I found out the there is one active client. Router shows the MAC address of this client and I want to Access this computer in order to let him know that he's doing a wrong thing. I dont intent to do any harm to his data. • Mac OS X - Quickly change voices for Text-to-Speech

  I love the text to Speech feature of Mac OS X. Since I'm not a native English speaker I'm very happy about all the additional languages added since Lion came out. However, I do use English as well as my native language (German). Changing voices is a bit of a pain. It just requires too many steps to be comfortable. Is there any way to make this easy? I was looking for shortcuts, maybe a drop down menu somwhere up in the right corner, anything would be fine. Since my search was not successful, I hope to find some advice here on SuperUser. • Eliminating "phantom" or "ghost" clicks on my Mac Pro

  Recently on my Mac Pro I have been experiencing phantom clicks and other strange behaviors. I have been rummaging through my system preferences to try and root out possible causes, and recently came across a strange finding in the Exposé panel (the keyboard modifiers are there from my taking the screenshot): I have had a Logitech 2-button mouse with a mouse wheel for years, and have never had a problem with it in the past. In addition I am running OS X 10.6.8 and have not had any issues like this up to this point. Is this a known issue? Is the extensive mouse listing a red herring? Are there any fixes for either issue?

• Mac Terminal: changed my shell, now can't start it

  I installed bash 4.0 via MacPorts, then used sudo chsh -s /opt/local/bin/bash my_user to change my shell. Before that I tried just running plain chsh without sudo, but it wouldn't allow me to change my shell to that path. Now when I try to start Terminal I'm getting a message that my shell has an illegal value, so Terminal won't start. I click Quit, and, unsurprisingly but annoyingly, it quits immediately. How do I reset my shell so I can start Terminal again? How do I set my shell to bash installed via MacPorts in a way that it'll work? Why does Terminal think my shell is illegal anyway? Is it siding with the neo-prohibitionists? Mac OS X 10.5.8. Everything super mega up-to-date.

• Setting up NIS/NFS on Mac OS 10.6

  We have an Ubuntu NIS/NFS server at work and we recently got a few new iMacs. Is there a way to set them up so they can use the linux user accounts and mount the shared nfs files? Are there any guides on how to do this? I've been googling with no success. I tried getting NFS to work by connecting to the server via the Disk Utility but after I run 'sudo automount' from the command line and ls the directory I tried to mount it to (Volumes/nfs) it gives a permissions error. If there isn't a way to do this, anyone know of any not to complicated ways to share user accounts and files between mac and linux computers (and even hypothetically a windows computer one day?) I know its kind a of huge question, but I'll greatly appreciate any advice on the topic. Thanks!

• Openfire on Mac OS X: can't log in after setup

  Hey all, I'm trying to set up Openfire (http://www.igniterealtime.org/projects/openfire/) on Mac OS X. The install goes well, and I can start the server and enter the admin console via its System Preferences pane. I run the setup, including specifying the password for the admin user. However, when I try to log into the admin console, I get the message "Login failed: make sure your username and password are correct and that you're an admin or moderator." What gives? I've tried to RTFM, but the documentation seems to be really sketchy. Nowhere is the setup process mentioned in the install docs.

  I've gone into the Directory Utility on the mac, clicked on the services tab, entered the Active Directory Domain and Computer ID, clicked the Bind button and it showed a little status label which flickered through 5 of 5 steps and then said "An unknown error occurred". If I ignore the error and just click the OK button further down the screen and make sure the Active Directory service is ticked in the list of services, then go to the Directory Servers tab and try to add an Active Directory by entering my ad domain, computer id, admin username and password I get an error "Unable to add the domain. An unexpected error of type -14090 (eDSAuthFailed) occurred." Any ideas?

  I'm currently considering buying a Mac Mini to use as a media center. I plan to install Windows 7 (or 8) on it, using Boot Camp. Will it be able to go into standby or hibernate (S3, S4?) and wake up to record TV scheduled in Windows Media Center? I haven't been able to find concrete information on supported standby types when running Windows under boot camp, and if Windows will even be able to wake when a recording should start. I just want to be clear on any limitations in this area before I buy anything.

  Windows refugee here. On Windows you can easily copy the path and paste it elsewhere to get to the directory. Here is the situation on the Mac. I am in the Finder 20 folders down and I see the file I want. I go to my application and want to open it, so I pick Open Document from the File menu. However, it is exceedingly difficult and time-consuming to get to the place I want. Is there a way to copy the path in the finder and paste it in the File Open dialog of my application?

  Hello@all, the problem is that we want to use openVPN here as default VPN Server. Now we have the same problem like everytime. On Windows all works fine but on Mac we have problems with the routing. When you are logged on to the network all you internet traffic goes through the vpn connection. We have set routes for this in the Serverconfig but they have no effect on the target system. Is here anybody who have a solution for this? thx for you help

  Trying to run Apache so that I can create a testing server on my mac.When I start apache it starts, but it doesn't run (no connection to local host.   I have two Mac notebooks at home, I have assigned them static private IPs. I have also set my router to a DynDNS address, which updates everytime my router gets a new public IP. I have enabled Screen Sharing on both notebooks. I can successfully goto my router webpage using the DynDNS address. I understand I need to port-forward to get Screen Sharing to work from outside. • Disabling the command enter shortcut on Mac Entourage.

  It seems like disabling a shortcut should not be such a big deal, but I cannot seem to be able to do it for any shortcuts and specifically not for the combination that I keep hitting by mistake, every single day. The smaller space bar makes it very easy to hit the command key by mistake, and the return is a commonly used key when typing. I keep sending important e-mails before I am done typing, or worse, before I am done editing. I do not necessarily want to disable all the shortcuts, but that one for sure. The choices for changing anything in Entourage seem very limited. [Entourage for Mac 2008. Version 12.2.8. (101117) ESD] It is easy enough just to hit "send." This short cut causes a lot more trouble than it saves. Help.

  I was following a tutorial which had this command to create a launchd.conf file in /etc/ sudo echo "some command" /etc/launchd.conf But it wouldn't work, I got permission denied after entering my admin password. Before answering: sudo rm -rf /whateverthetimemachineis does not work Disabling the ACL permissions first with sudo fsaclctl -p /whatever -d does not work, sudo: fsaclctl: command not found Use the delete all backup feature in Time Machine... this is slow as hell, would take days. Need a command line solution. No I don't want to reformat the drive, I have other content on it, and no don't say I should have separated on two partition or two drives, I did it this say since partitions cannot be dynamically changed, and two drives is annoying since, whats the point of having a big drive?... plus has no relation to the issue at hand. Already googlied for hours and read everything on Super User, nothing working. and all solutions are the first 4. Any clues?

• What's up with tab order on my Mac?

  So, I just got my first Mac. It is slick, and I feel like I don't know how to do anything, but overall it is a great machine. However, I am becoming frustrated with the tab order in most web pages. For example, this site. If I am composing a comment and press tab, focus is set to the address bar. I would like the focus to shift to the button next to the text area, but no luck. Also, I cannot seem to tab into combo boxes in form pages. What is going on here exactly? This happens in FireFox as well as Safari. I don't get why the tab order of a page would not be respected. Any help is appreciated.

  If you're looking for MSN and / or Windows, just go here. I'm looking for Real-Time chat translation tools for Mac, and preferably using Adium, but it could be for Skype, iChat or maybe another option if it's really good. So far I could only easily find a plugin for Adium, simply called translator, that uses google, dicts and babelfish, but you have to type commands in and paste the words or sentences, and it's currently not even working on Snow Leopard. Even if it did, it's still not quite as automatic as we'd expect (or see in other platforms as indicated). So I'm just citing it as an example of a bad solution.
