• Make Thunderbird3 not switch to firefox after clicking a link

  Using ThunderBird 3 on Windows 7. When I get a mail with a link, I usually click it, if I know what it's about. Sadly, Thunderbird switches to Firefox which is opening the new tab. I'm active on several forums and get several of these messages per day. I don't want to click a link, be forced into firefox, go back to thunderbird, click a link, be forced into Firefox, etc... Is there an option to disable this? If not, I can see myself quitting Thunderbird altogheter and simply using web-based email checking instead of using an app.

  I suspect I'm a bit offtopic with the site mission, but it seems me more fitting for the question than stackoverflow i'm in preparing to create a vm with sensible data (personal use, it will be a web+mail+... appliance of sorts), i'd like to protect the data even with cryptography; the final choice have to be cross-platform for the host basically, I have to choose between guest system-level cryptography (say, dm-crypt or similar) or host level cryptography with truecrypt. do you think that the "truecrypt-volume contained virtualized disks" approach will hit the i/o performance of the vm badly (and therefore dm-crypt like approaches into the vm would be better), or is it doable? I'd like to protect all the guest data, not only my personal data, to be able to suspend the vm freely without worrying for the swap partition, etc

• Outlook 2007: compose, and reply error with "Not Implemented."

  This is happening on a Windows Vista machine with Office 2007 Ultimate. I have run repair from the control panel and also the MS Office Diagnostic tool. No problems are reported. When I started Outlook my mail box opens and I can read my messages. If I click compose or reply then Outlook gives me a dialog that says, "Not Implemented." The rest of office seems to be working fine. Does anyone know what causes this or the correct way to repair it? Thanks!

• Cannot get Backup Exec to backup Exchange.

  I have a media server, Windows Server 2008 SP2 running Backup Exec 2010 R2. The SQL and other Windows agents work but I cannot backup the Exchange 2010 server running Windows Server2008 R2. I have the correct license for the Exchange agent - installed on the media server, and I installed Exchange Management tools on the media server. The 'Microsoft Exchange Database Availability Group' option is greyed out and if I select the server under a new backup job I can expand the 'Microsoft Information Store' option and see the mail database name but showing 0Kb. When I try to back it up it gives an error displaying: The job failed with the following error: Backup Exec attempted to back up an Exchange database according to the job settings. The database was not found, however. Update the selection list and run the job again.

• Virtualmin Configuration

  I am trying to get Virtualmin setup and have reached a point where my noobish sysadmin skills aren't getting the job done. This is the message I get now when I try and refresh the configuration of Virtualmin. BIND DNS server is installed, and the system is configured to use it. However, the default master DNS server XXXXXX is not a fully qualified domain name. Sendmail is only accepting SMTP connections on the following ports : 127.0.0.1 port smtp. Email from other systems on the Internet will not be accepted. This can be changed in the Sendmail Mail Server module. Please advise what I need to do to get Sendmail configured properly. Thanks!

• What are the benefits of using conforming certificates?

  Recently, my web host started sending my mail client a self-signed root certificate with no field filled (everything says "Unknown") when connecting via SSL. I'm pretty sure this is not a good thing, but since it works, the tech support guy says it's fine. I'm not a certificate guru, so I'm turning to you people. What purpose do certificates serve? Is it really okay that the certificate has every field set to "Unknown"? I don't check certificates often, but I don't recall ever being sent a root one; what's the difference between a root certificate and, err, the other kind of certificate?

• "Thunderbird is already running" error every time I try to start Thunderbird, even if it is not running

  I cannot open Thunderbird. The process isn't running, but when I click on the icon, I get the the following error: Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, or restart your system. I've tried the following: Ending the task in Task Manager Deleting parent.lock Uninstalling Thunderbird Uninstalling Firefox Running Thunderbird in software "safe mode" and Windows safe mode What can I do to fix this problem? The problem looks more serious than expected. I do not see any Mail folder in my profile at C:\Users\your-username\AppData\Mozilla\Thunderbird. I think I lost my email.

• Windows 8 Microsoft Account and Microsoft Store doesn't allow login

  The problem is that I have to go through proxy here in college to make my internet work. When I signed with my live id to switch to the Microsoft account in Windows 8, it recognized and validate my security questions but says it cannot connect to Microsoft Services. All other apps like mail, messenger, etc. work except for the Windows Store. The windows store what apps are available but when installed, queues it up for a pending download. Is there a way to modify my proxy settings so that I can access both these features?

• why do i get an SPF Softfail?

  I installed SPF on my LAMP server with postfix. But for some reason, I get this error Received-SPF: softfail (mta1070.mail.re4.yahoo.com: domain of transitioning [email protected] does not designate 1.1.1.1 as permitted sender) I have two questions: 1) how do I trouble shoot this error 2) I've been looking through my configuration files in an attempt to change [email protected] to [email protected] because anotherurl.com has the correct SPF TXT records. Where do i go to change this? I tried editing myhostname under /etc/postfix/main.cf, but it didn't do anything.

  I recently installed a postfix + dovecot + dkim multi domain, multi user, multi alias mail server on my debian squeeze system. Everything works except for one big issue that basically makes the whole thing useless: Every single email sent by my server goes straight into spam. (gmail, hotmail) First thing i did is doing the well known allaboutspam test and all is checked (green) except for the BATV thing (yellow): Reverse dns: green HELO Greeting: green RBL: green BATV: yellow SPF: green DKIM: green URIBL: green SPAMAssassin: green Greylist: green I'm really confused and i can't see a way to solve this issue. • Thunderbird: moving email from local Junk folder to IMAP folder yields "Message contains invalid header"

  Whenever I try to move an email from a local Junk folder to an IMAP folder in Thunderbird, I get the following error message: The current command did not succeed. The mail server responded: Message contains invalid header If Thunderbird's Junk folder is an IMAP folder on the server, then after Thunderbird has moved messages to that folder, I can successfully move messages from Junk back into to some other IMAP folder. However, if the Junk folder is not on the server, then moving a message from the local Junk folder to an IMAP folder yields the aforementioned error. The only interesting thing I've found about this error is "Message contains invalid header" from the MozillaZine Knowledge Base. That article officially is about importing folders from another email client, and does not mention the Junk filter as another possible cause. However the proposed solution is not very helpful since it requires manual editing of the message box files. Any better ideas? EDIT: make sure you read the comments before answering the question.

  I would like to install a Test/Dummy SMTP server on a Windows 2008 server (virtual box). I just want to test my web application on the machine it self so I don't need the mails to go out on the internet, but just to be written to disk (so that I can verify that the mail function was indeed called and the correct data was handed over to SMTP) Can you recommend some tool. I guess starting your own SMTP server in python is an option. I am looking for a simple (ready to use) solution, targeted for tests systems.   (Followup to this question) After surviving the first wave of incoming shipments (9 hours of copy/paste), I now believe I have all the requirements. Here is the updated workflow: Monkey collects email attachments (4 Excel spreadsheets, 1 PDF) Monkey creates central database, does complex calculations (right now this is also an Excel spreadsheet) Monkey sends data to two bosses, who set the retail prices independently; first one to reply wins Monkey sends order form to our other warehouses, also Excel Monkey sends spreadsheets to VIP customers, carefully sanitized and formatted (4 different discount categories) Jurily enters the data into the accounting system. I've given up on automating this part, there's too much business logic involved, and the database is a pile of sh^W legacy My question: What technologies would you use for a quick and dirty solution? I'm mostly sold on C#, but coming from a Linux/C++ background, I'm horribly confused about my choices in Microsoft-land. For bonus points: How would you redesign the whole system from the ground up? P.S. in case you were wondering, my job title is System Administrator.

• Convert Date to Datetime field.

  The argument my C# function is getting is a string which is merely a Date or a DateTime. I am suppose to convert this String to DateTime, to carry on furthure calculation. Now I need to test whether the incoming data is a Date, if it is date(examle:"12/31/2009"), then I need to add "00:00:00" (24 hours format) to it, so that it will become "12/31/2009 00:00:00". If string manipulation is one possible way, I want to confirm whether there is some other way where we can automate the testing and conversion within DateTime.TryParseExact() method. • [C#] Async threaded tcp server

  I want to create a high performance server in C# which could take about ~10k clients. Now i started writing a TcpServer with C# and for each client-connection i open a new thread. I also use one thread to accept the connections. So far so good, works fine. The server has to deserialize AMF incoming objects do some logic ( like saving the position of a player ) and send some object back ( serializing objects ). I am not worried about the serializing/deserializing part atm. My main concern is that I will have a lot of threads with 10k clients and i've read somewhere that an OS can only hold like a few hunderd threads. Are there any sources/articles available on writing a decent async threaded server ? Are there other possibilties or will 10k threads work fine ? I've looked on google, but i couldn't find much info about design patterns or ways which explain it clearly

What i want is to log the above command whenever it is used to set the time into the file /tmp/log/user.log. In my Linux distribution the logging is done by syslog-ng. I already have some logs going into /tmp/log/user.log. When they're different, we need to change the DNS records. When I try to point my blog to my domain name, I came to know about the various types of DNS records - A Records, AAA Records, MX Records, CNAME Records, NS Records, TXT Records, SRV Records, SOA Records, etc. I searched on Google, but would like to know more about these deeply. How do the domain name records work? Is there any difference between NS record and other records in the way they work? • Sendmail relay out of Amazon EC2?

  I have a site running on CentOS 5.4 through Amazon EC2. Unfortunately, Amazon has had nothing but trouble with their entire IP range getting black listed from spam tracking services regularly. I need a mail server, so I setup an smtp server elsewhere that I want to send to, but I can't just send directly to it through PHP because the direct smtp request is way too slow. What I want to do is relay through sendmail, but I've never used sendmail before, so I have no idea how to configure it. All I want is for all emails sent from localhost to be relayed to one specific external server, but I don't know how to do that. I tried to find a tutorial online, but couldn't find anything that was particularly clear as to how I go about doing that. Can anyone help me out?

I want to install Collective Access to run locally only on my Intranet at home. So my host is localhost I sucessfully installed PHP and MYSQL. I installed CA in this directory C:/inetpub/wwwroot/collectiveaccess. 1st. I do not want to send mail through collective access. Will it install without all the email information? Can I comment those requirements out in the global config and setup.php file? 2nd I am getting the error. • Migrate Thunderbird 3 Saved Searches Between Accounts

  Long story short, the sysadmins have moved me to a new mailserver. In the process, they needed to create a separate account in Thunderbird and disable my old account. They took care of all of the mail migration. However, my saved search folders didn't go along for the ride. I have over 20 complex searches that I'd rather not have to reenter manually by hand. You can't drag saved searches between accounts like other folders. I tried closing Thunderbird, doing a find/replace in virtualFolders.dat in my Thunderbird profile folder, saving that file, and reopening Thunderbird, but that didn't appear to do anything. I'm assuming the search folders are also saved in one of the sqlite databases... does anyone know where to look?

This is done in order to prevent a brute force attacker from discovering the admin passwords, and obtaining administrator privileges on the system. How can this be achieved? Presumably, I will have to modify some settings in /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf, but I am hesitant to change the default settings lest I create other security vulnerabilities.
