  Is it possible to create a web service operation using primitive or basic Java types when using the Jaxb2Marschaller in spring-ws? • WCF Ria Services Error : Load operation failed for query 'GetTranslationProgress'

  Hello, I am using WCF Ria Services beta in my silverlight application. I have a long running task on the server which keeps writing its status to a database table. I have a "GetTranslationProgress" Ria Service Query method which queries the state to get the status. This query method is called continuously at a regular interval of 5 seconds until a status = Finished or Error is retrieved. In some cases if the task on the server is running for a long duration 2-3 minutes then I receives this error:- Load operation failed for query 'GetTranslationProgress'. The server did not provide a meaningful reply; this might be caused by a contract mismatch, a premature session shutdown or an internal server error. at System.Windows.Ria.OperationBase.Complete(Exception error) at System.Windows.Ria.LoadOperation.Complete(Exception error) at System.Windows.Ria.DomainContext.CompleteLoad(IAsyncResult asyncResult) at System.Windows.Ria.DomainContext.<c_DisplayClass17.b_13(Object ) The error occurs intermittently and I have no idea what could be causing this error. I have checked most of the forums and sites but I have not been able to find out any solution to this issue. Please help.

• Really slow obtaining font metrics.

  So the problem I have is that I start my application by displaying a simple menu. To size and align the text correctly I need to obtain font metrics and I cannot find a way to do it quickly. I tested my program and it looks like whatever method I use to obtain font metrics the first call takes over 500 milliseconds!? Because of it the time it takes to start-up my application is much longer than necessary. I don't know if it is platform specific or not, but just in case, I'm using Mac OS 10.6.2 on MacBook Pro (hardware isn't an issue here). If you know a way of obtaining font metrics quicker please help. • Outlook close to tray

  Ok, I'm stuck using outlook in the office (but they let me use 2010 betas which are awsome, btw) and one thing I'll allways rant about outlook in any version is that when I press the X button it goes away. I mean, I know the X button is supposed to close the app, it's the standard and all that, but email is (sadly) very critical, as well as meeting requests and reminders, outlook should not be closed so freaking easily. I mean, Live Messenger is not so critical but it has this feature built in and on by default. Is there a way to close outlook to the tray, addons, vba, settings, reghack, anything? I know there is minimize to tray and I've been searching the web but could not find anything usefull.

• Master Reset iPhone - How?

  Actually - I had a problem with my iPhone. My iphone battery was down & it was switched off. I plugged in it for charging, but after some time - iPhone had a complete white screen. I don't know what actually had happened. Every thing was working perfectly. means suppose I press lock ( button on top-right side ) it sounds that iphone is locked. when I pressed home button & slide on bottom of the screen - it sounds that iphone is unlocked - but the only problem was - screen remains "white" only. someone told me - it needs master reset. I went to an engineer & he just master reset to iPhone. I am wondering how an iPhone can be master reset ? can you guide me about it ? Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge. Sagar

• OS X not booting after upgrading LibXML2

  I tried upgrading the version of LibXML2 in my machine to run some propietary software. Compiled as 32-bit (-arch i386) and restarted to see if it worked. Now when I try to boot I can only get into the spinning screen and it just sits there. Restarting in verbose mode (Cmd-V) does not show any error in the process, it just freezes after "AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement: initialization complete". I can't from any CD either (if I press c on startup it just spins the disk around and then stops in the same spinner screen). I've also reset the PRAM/NVRAM to discard any problems with that and it´s still not fixed. Any pointers of what might´ve gone wrong? (Latest gen MBP, running 10.6.3)

SomeClass someClass = (SomeClass)ser.ReadObject(reader, true); So when I check "someClass", FirstName will have the value john, But the LastName will be null. Mystery is how can i get some of the data and not all of the data for the class. So DataContractSerializer is not pulling up all the data from xml when deserializing. Am i doing something wrong. • unusual backspace behavior in mac terminal

  I'm trying to figure out how to get ssh sessions to work how I want using the terminal app on mac os x. I'm used to using PuTTY on windows, where backspace means backspace. On mac when I press delete/backspace on mac it deletes the character following the cursor instead of the one before. I turned on Delete sends Ctrl + H, and that works most of the time, but sometimes it just shows on the screen as ^H this is typically at prompts from some custom python scripts on the box I log into. This doesn't happen with PuTTY on windows. Btw I'm logging into a Ubuntu Linux server running openssh. Any idea what I need to do so that backspace is consistently backspace.

  I am putting a new motherboard in a chenbro chasis and I dont get how to plugin the wires for powerSW resetSW, etc. It is a SuperMicro P4DP6 motherboard. ** I cant post an image yet, but here is a long to the spot on the mobo where this goes: http://andrewslack.info/mobo.png The powerSW lead is a green and white wire. I have the wire for PowerSW in place as the white wire ground and I have tried the reverse even (green to ground). The wire is covering Pin 1 and 2 in the diagram And I press the power button on the machine and nothing happens. It worked before I replaced the motherboard, the 24-pin ATX power leas is connected as well as the 2dn 6-pin optional power. Thoughts?

  Does anybody know of a diff-like tool that can show me the changes between two text files, but ignore changes in whitespace including newlines? Here's an example: the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy bear. the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy bear. the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy bear. the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy bear. quick brown fox jumped over the lazy bear. the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy bear. the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy bear. the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy bear. All I did was delete one word and reflow it, but "diff -b" detects a change on every line (as it should; I'm not saying this is a bug in diff). But for large LaTeX files this is a major problem; change one word in a long paragraph and the diff you get back is basically useless. By the way, I'm aware that this requires way more computational power than the usual lines-are-atomic diff. I'm only doing this on small human-generated files and am happy to wait a long time if I have to.

• LSI 9211-8i won't boot in KVM

  I'm running ubuntu 11.04 with an LSI 9211-8i in IT mode with the latest firmware (10). I'm using KVM with VT-d enabled to pass the entire PCIe device through to the guest OS. I have the device disabled in the system BIOS. When I boot my virtual machine, the adapter quits during bios initialization with the following error: Unable to load LSI Corporation MPT BIOS MPT BIOS Fault 0Ch encountered at adapter PCI(00h,04h,00h) Press any key to continue... I know the virtualization is correctly enabled. I've blacklisted the kernel modules in the host OS. Has anyone else encountered this error? I'm about out of ideas here. Edit: I contacted LSI tech support about this, and they suggested that I try RedHat and Xen. Apparently they don't test or support anything else.

• How to swap the "fn" use of Function keys on al Apple Keyboard in Linux

  I have an apple slim keyboard (USB) and if I want to use one of the Function Key as-is, I also have to press "fn " key first. Otherwise, it will try to perform the other function of the key, such as increasing or decreasing the display intensity, change the volume/mute, etc.... As well, the fn key is actually in the position of the "insert" key for regular keyboards. How can I fix all of that ? I really like this keyboard, as it make my typing much easier, and much more silent too. But some of those mappings that are different sometime bug me. Thanks :-)

• What's slowing for loops/assignment vs. C?

  I have a collection of PHP scripts that are extremely CPU intensive, juggling millions of calculations across hundreds of simultaneous users. I'm trying to find a way to speed up the internals of PHP variable assignment, and looping sequences vs C. Although PHP is obviously loosely typed, is there any way/extension to specifically assign type (assign, not cast, which seems even more expensive) in a C-style fashion? Here's what I mean. This is some dummy code in C: #include <stdio.h> int main() { unsigned long add=0; for(unsigned long x=0;x<100000000;x++) { add = x*59328409238; } printf("x is %ld\n",add); } Pretty self-explanatory -- it loops 100 million times, multiples each iteration by an arbitrary number of some 59 billion, assigns it to a variable and prints it out. On my Macbook, compiling it and running it produced: lees-macbook-pro:Desktop lee$ time ./test2 x is 5932840864471590762 real 0m0.266s user 0m0.253s sys 0m0.002s Pretty darn fast! A similar script in PHP 5.3 CLI... <?php for($i=0;$i<100000000;$i++){ $a=$i*59328409238; } echo $a."\n"; ?> ... produced: lees-macbook-pro:Desktop lee$ time /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/bin/php test3.php 5.93284086447E+18 real 0m22.837s user 0m22.110s sys 0m0.078s Over 22 seconds vs 0.2! I realize PHP is doing a heck of a lot more behind the scenes than this simple C program - but is there any way to make the PHP internals to behave more 'natively' on primitive types and loops?

• OSX: The item XYZ.txt~ can’t be moved to the Trash because it can’t be deleted

  I'm trying to delete a file under OSX Lion, but can't. I get the following message: The item XYZ.txt~ can’t be moved to the Trash because it can’t be deleted. Here's what I've tried: select file and press COMMAND + DELETE (I get the message above.) renaming the file in finder (There is no option to rename the file.) sudo ls -a in a terminal (The file does not appear.) sudo rm XYZ.txt~ (I get "No such file or directory".) How do I remove this file? EDIT The file went away after restarting. My guess is that it was a glitch in finder.

• what service to restart for /var/log/auth.log to start

  Here is a situation since the log files on my server had grown to several Gigabytes I took a backup of directory /var/log and then manually when to each subdirectory of /var/log and the files which were big in size I did cat > /var/log/file_which_is_big press 2 times enter key (basically over wrote those files with a blank space) and then Ctrl+C So basically I over wrote those files to be blank. Now when I open /var/log/auth.log I don't see any entry (which is expected also since I over wrote) but when I exit the SSH session and login again then also I do not see any entry in auth.log is there any way other than rebooting the machine to make sure I keep getting the entries in /var/log/auth.log I am not sure which service writes in this file. This is a Ubuntu 10.04 server.

  Hello all, I am trying to find all links in a div and then printing those links. I am using the Simple HTML Dom to parse the HTML file.   In tmux, i know we can chain multiple commands to a key by using \; See Here But in vi mode, i want one single key press to go to the beginning of the current line, begin-selection, go to end-of-line, copy-selection. In tmux.conf if i give the following bind-key -t vi-copy 's' start-of-line \; begin-selection \; end-of-line \; copy-selection \; It gives me this : 69: usage: bind-key [-cnr] [-t key-table] key command [arguments] error. Or is there any alternative way to yank the current line in single key.

• stoping doGet/dopost in java servlets ?

  Hello everyone, I've been playing with Java Servlets and Ajax a bit, and I've got a situation on which I would really appreciate advice. Let's say I have HTML page with a start and stop buttons, and as a result of clicking start button, overridden doGet (or doPost) method on a servlet is invoked which computes something that takes a long time to complete. (e.g. a giant loop, or even Infinite loop, doesn't matter, I'm interested in concepts here). So, I'm asking you: 1.What would be my options to kill / shut down / halt / exit doGet method whan I hit stop button on a web page? Do I use threading here, or there is simpler way? I take it that using System exit is not a very good idea, right? ;) 2.So, let's say I implement code for stopping doGet method. What would happen If I hit start on one browser(e.g.IE), and while this long computation takes place open new tab or other browser(e.g.Firefox) and open same url and hit stop? Would that stop my original computation? Is there any easy way to avoid this? I know that questions are a bit off, as I'm just starting with server-side of things. :) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  Hi ! I have a HTTP connector in my iPhone project and queries must have a parameter set from the username using the Fowler–Noll–Vo (FNV) Hash. I have a Java implementation working at this time, this is the code : long fnv_prime = 0x811C9DC5; long hash = 0; for(int i = 0; i < str.length(); i++) { hash *= fnv_prime; hash ^= str.charAt(i); } Now on the iPhone side, I did this : int64_t fnv_prime = 0x811C9DC5; int64_T hash = 0; for (int i=0; i < [myString length]; i++) { hash *= fnv_prime; hash ^= [myString characterAtIndex:i]; } This script doesn't give me the same result has the Java one. In first loop, I get this : hash = 0 hash = 100 (first letter is "d") hash = 1865261300 (for hash = 100 and fnv_prime = -2128831035 like in Java) Do someone see something I'm missing ?   Hello, I recently started using the new Hibernate (EntityManager) 3.5.1 with JPA 2.0, and I was wondering if it was possible to both retrieve a (sub-set) of entities and their count from a single CriteriaQuery instance.   Hi, I do a lot of sketching with my pen-tablet. I use MS Paint in Windows 7, and it is just perfect except for anti-aliasing. I found some videos of Salman Khan, where his sketching is really smooth and anti-aliased. Do you know what program he might use?
