• routing through multiple subinterfaces in debian

  my question is as simple as the title, i have a debian 6 , 2 NICs, 3 different subnets in a single interface, just like this: auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.106.254 netmask 255.255.255.0 auto eth0:0 iface eth0:0 inet static address 172.19.221.81 netmask 255.255.255.248 auto eth0:1 iface eth0:1 inet static address 192.168.254.1 netmask 255.255.255.248 auto eth1 iface eth1 inet static address 172.19.216.3 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 172.19.216.13 eth0 is conected to a swith with 3 differents vlans, eth1 is conected to a router. No iptables DROP, so, all traffic is allowed. Now, passing the traffic through eth0 is OK, passing the traffic through eth0:0 is OK, but, passing the traffic through eth0:1 is not working, i can ping the ip address of that sub interface from a pc where this ip is the default gateway, but can't get to servers in the subnet of the eth1 interface, the traffic is not passing, even when i set the iptables to log all the traffic in the FORWARD chain and i can see the traffic there, but, the traffic is not really passing. And the funny is i can do any the other way around, i mean, passing from eth1 to eth0:1, RDP, telnet, ping, etc, doing some work with the iptable, i manage to pass some traffic from eth0:1 to eth1, the iptables look like this: iptables -t nat PREROUTING -d 192.168.254.1/32 -p tcp -m multiport --dports 25,110,5269 -j DNAT --to-destination 172.19.216.1 iptables -t nat PREROUTING -d 192.168.254.1/32 -p udp -m udp --dport 53 -j DNAT --to-destination 172.19.216.9 iptables -t nat PREROUTING -d 192.168.254.1/32 -p tcp -m tcp --dport 21 -j DNAT --to-destination 172.19.216.11 iptables -t nat POSTROUTING -s 172.19.216.0/24 -d 172.19.221.80/29 -j SNAT --to-source 172.19.221.81 iptables -t nat POSTROUTING -s 172.19.216.0/24 -d 192.168.254.0/29 -j SNAT --to-source 192.168.254.1 iptables -t nat POSTROUTING -s 172.19.216.0/24 -o eth0 -j SNAT --to-source 192.168.106.254 dong this is working, but,it is really a headache have to map each port with the server, imagine if i move the service from server, so, now i have doubts: can debian route through multiple subinterfaces?? exist a limit for this?? if not, what i'm doing wrong when i have the same setup with other subnets and it is working ok?? without the iptables rules in the nat, it doesn't work thanks and i hope good comments/answers

  Hi, I've setup a Apache web server on Ubuntu Linux. I can see http://localhost well. But I can't see localhost from other machines in my network using IP address: http://192.168.1.101 I added the lines below to my apache conf: `Allow from 192.168.1` but it did not work. It says "the connection has timed out". what should i do? • Vim - show diff on commit in mercurial;

  In my .hgrc I can provide an editor or a command to launch an editor with options on commit. I want to write a method or alias that launches $ hg ci, it would not only open up message in Vim, but also would split window and there print out $ hg diff. I know that I can give parameters to vim by using +{command} option. So launching $ vim "+vsplit" does the split but any other options goes to first opened window. So I assume i need a specific function, yet I have no experience in writing my own Vim scripts. The script should: Open new vertical split with empty buffer (with vnew possibly) In empty buffer launch :.!hg diff Set empty buffer file type as diff :set ft=diff I've written such function: function! HgCiDiff() vnew :.!hg diff set ft=diff endfunction And in .hgrc I've added option: editor = vim "+HgCiDiff()" It kind of works, but I would like that splited window would be in right side (now it opens up in left) and mercurial message would be focused window. Also :wq could be setted as temporary shortcut to :wq<CR>:q! (having an assumption that mercurial message is is focused). Any suggestions to make this a bit more useful and less chunky? UPDATE: I found vim split guide so changing vnew with rightbelow vnew opens up diff on the right side.

  I'm working on a Javascript class based on the Prototype library. This class needs to observe an event to perform a drag operation (the current drag-drop controls aren't right for this situation), but I'm having problems making it stop observing the events.   I am trying to get my new MediaWiki server to allow connections to our MySql Server and right now I cannot get my iptables firewall set up right for this. The rule I am applying is the following iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -d 129.130.155.39 --dport 3306 -j ACCEPT # MySQL But my iptables log is still show that the connections can not be established and is being blocked/denied.   In Javascript code, I would like to programmatically cause the browser to follow a link that's on my page. Simple case: <a id="foo" href="mailto:[email protected]">something</a> function goToBar() { $('#foo').trigger('follow'); } This is hypothetical as it doesn't actually work. And no, triggering click doesn't do it. I am aware of window.location and window.open but these differ from native link-following in some ways that matter to me: a) in the presence of a <base /> element, and b) in the case of mailto URLs. The latter in particular is significant. In Firefox at least, calling window.location.href = "mailto:[email protected]" causes the window's unload handlers to fire, whereas simply clicking a mailto link does not, as far as I can tell. I'm looking for a way to trigger the browser's default handling of links, from Javascript code. Does such a mechanism exist? Toolkit-specific answers also welcome (especially for Gecko).

• Increase the compression performance of VPN

  I am currently switching from a system with HPN-SSH tunnels and enabled compression to something VPN based. I have tried tinc and n2n so far, hamachi requires a library I do not have. In my primitive benchmarks I am not satisfied with the achievable bandwidth compared to the SSH tunnels. In tinc the low LZO setting performed best, but compression is only available in UDP mode. Ideally I would like to have a TCP-based VPN with a multi-threaded compression. Can you suggest me some ideas how to increase the performance? Would it be possible to somehow put a compression filter in front of the tun interface? Or are there any VPN implementations that might be better suited for my needs (fast compression, TCP-based, switch mode, does not have to be super-secure)? I would consider tunnelling Ethernet over SSH, but according to some articles it is not advisable.

• MFC (C++) CDialog DoModal() not working as expected

  Hi, I have a plugin that is loaded by this application.. This plugin calls some dialog boxes with DoModal(). I'm expecting these dialog boxes to function like this: If I click on the application window behind the dialog box, the dialog box flashes and does not allow the application to be in focus. However, in one of the other dialog boxes, called with DoModal(), if I click on the application window, it doesn't do the flashing thing, and after a while the application's close/minimize buttons become active (well, just the color). They're not really active and the window turns somewhat white and the title bar says (Not Responding)... What could possibly be wrong and how do I fix it? I've tried setting the dialog box's properties to System Modal: True, and Set Foreground: True but it doesn't seem to work.. :( Thanks.. EDIT: I'd like to note that the in the Windows taskbar, there is only one entry for the application for the correct behavior, but when the dialog box with the incorrect behavior is launched, another "window" is launched.. So it looks like (Application)(Dialog box title).. The effect I'm trying to achieve is just (Application)..

• vmware workstation - virtual network adapters missing from ipconfig, still show in networking (XP host)

  Hi Folks - here's a new one for me, and my first time posting here: I installed VMWare workstation 7.1 on a new PC. VMWare properly installs the virtual network adapters under the Network Connections control panel, however for some reason they do not show up under ipconfig, which is very weird. They also don't appear anywhere in "route print". I don't have network connectivity to the VM. My guesses are perhaps some conflict with Symantec AntiVirus or Symantec Client Firewall. Tried the following things: enabling TCP/IP in the virtual network adapters (they often get installed with it disabled for some reason) Restoring defualts in the VMnetcfg gui tool (this causes an uninstall and reinstall of the virtual network adapters on the host) Re-installing vmware workstation Uninstalling checkpoint secureremote and then reinstalling vmware Just to be clear, this problem is totally on the host. In my searching for stuff about (non-vmware) adapters missing from ipconfig, I see some posts about resetting the TCP/IP stack using netsh. Looking into that next... Thanks!

• unable to connect to remote sql server from SHDSL router

  Got a new leased line network to our office that came with a SHDSL router (Watson). Currently, we are unable to use Sql Server management studio to connect to remote Sql databases. It errors out saying A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The specified network name is no longer available.) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 64) I logged into the Watson management panel and unblocked all the ports for TCP traffic (specified the range as 0 to 60000 and UDP as well - this include 1443 required for connecting to SQL Server). The router is the only thing that has changed. We are able to connect to it from other networks just fine. Is there something we are missing here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  Hello! I realy need help with one strange problem. I have a wifi network in my appartment with wireless N home router Trendnet tew-652BRP. Everething work fine for three of my laptops, but I have one PC with D-Link DWA-140 adapter. It looses connection 2-3 times in 5 minutes. There is following messages in my system log when it does so: The browser has forced an election on network \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{9537A5C1-3B43-4C56-B94C-CE69A257C3AD} because a master browser was stopped. The TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper service was successfully sent a stop control. The reason specified was: 0x40030011 [Operating System: Network Connectivity (Planned)] Comment: None The TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper service entered the stopped state. in order of appearence. How can I stop it? I have the latest driver installed.

  Why doesn't keyboard input work for a ScrollViewer when the child control has input focus? This is the scenario. A WPF window opens. It sets the focus to a control that is embedded in a ScrollViewer. I hit the up and down and left and right keys. The ScrollViewer doesn't seem to handle the key events, anyone know why? This is the simplest possible example: <Window x:Class="WpfApplication1.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="Window1" Height="300" Width="300" FocusManager.FocusedElement="{Binding ElementName=control}" > <Grid> <ScrollViewer HorizontalScrollBarVisibility="Auto" > <ItemsControl x:Name="control" Width="1000" Height="1000" /> </ScrollViewer> </Grid> </Window> When you start the app that contains this window, "control" appears to have the focus as I intended. Pressing the key seems to result in bubbling key events reaching the ScrollViewer (I checked for this using WPF Snoop). I can't work out why it doesn't respond to the input.

Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available OK I am logged-in as local machine Administrator.   I have a virtualised Windows XP SP3 machine, which I am connecting to over Remote Desktop. One of my scripts needs to use the %sessionname% variable. However this returns incorrect information. C:\>%sessionname% constantly returns RDP-Tcp#5, instead of the value for the currently connected session (RDP-Tcp#35 or similar), as shown in Task Manager This causes my scripts to contain incorrect information. What can I do to resolve this? Edit Further Information: A restart appears to solve the problem for the first connection, but then subsequent connections have the numbers fall out of sync again.

  MySQL supports "for update" keyword. Here is how I tested that it is working as expected. I opened 2 browser tabs and executed the following commands in one window. mysql> start transaction; Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec) mysql> select * from myxml where id = 2 for update; .... mysql> update myxml set id = 3 where id = 2 limit 1; Query OK, 1 row affected, 1 warning (0.00 sec) Rows matched: 1 Changed: 1 Warnings: 0 mysql> commit; Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.08 sec) In another window, I started the transaction and tried to take an update lock on the same record. mysql> start transaction; Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec) mysql> select * from myxml where id = 2 for update; Empty set (43.81 sec) As you can see from the above example, I could not select the record for 43 seconds as the transaction was being processed by another application in the Window No 1. Once the transaction was over, I got to select the record, but since the id 2 was changed to id 3 by the transaction that was executed first, no record was returned. My question is what are the disadvantages of using "for update" syntax? If I do not commit the transaction that is running in window 1 will the record be locked for-ever?

  Greetings and Hello I am trying to put together a wordpress site, now because the content in the main div is going to be a different height with every page I need the navigation sidebar to stretch to the same height. So with a little javascript tom-foolery I can get the sidebar to be the same height with the following code function adjust(){ hgt=document.getElementById('content').offsetHeight; document.getElementById('sidebar').style.height=hgt+'px'; } window.onload=adjust; window.onresize=adjust; Now that's all good for a long page but if the content is smaller then the sidebar stuff gets all messy. • afp/smb transfers caps at 2 megabytes/sec, wireless N

  I wanted to transfer files between two mac computers. The network is wireless-N and both computers have wireless-N modules in them. The problem is that when I transfer files between them, via file sharing (afp) the network speed caps at 2 megabytes/sec. Just downloading files from the internet I can get faster speeds, so this isn't a constriction of my wifi bandwidth, it appears to be a constriction of the protocol being used. My wifi-n is set to 130mbits, so I should see real world transfer speeds around 12-16 megabytes/sec I did this command on both computers sudo sysctl -w net.inet.tcp.delayed_ack=0 which is supposed to lower tcp overhead, but this did not affect it. How can I get the speed I am expecting?

• Can only connect to sql server express 2012 via named pipes

  I have sql server express 2012 installed on windows 2008, locally everything works just fine i can connect via tcpip and named pipes. Remotely i can connect with ssms only using named pipes. I have tried disabling the firewall on both sides to eliminate blocking traffic. i have toggled the tcpip setting on and off (i read somewhere that they got it working just but flipping them off and back on). I have double/triple checked all the settings that i'm aware of and everything seems to be correct. Tcp is enabled Tcp port is set to 1433, udp port is set to 1434 Server has static ip Start up log says: Server is listening on [ 'any' 1433]. Firewall rules are in place Any suggestions on things that i can look into? i have really just run out of ideas.

• virtualbox port forwarding - firewall config

  i have a ubuntu host system with virtualbox running a windows server. In Virtualbox i have configured the network with a NAT interface and port forwarding for the RDP deamon running inside the vm. That works really well - i can connect to the windows rdp service over the internet. TCP *:3389 - *:3389 Now i like to restrict the access to the rdp service to only 3 public ip addresses and have no idea how to do that via iptables / shorewall. Something like: ACCEPT net:91.x.x.x fw tcp 3389 (shorewall rule) isn't working. Would be glad for any hint.

• Why doesn't the SplitView iPhone template have a nib file for the RootView?

  I'm diving into iPad development and am learning a lot quickly, but everywhere I look, I have questions. After creating a new SplitView app in Xcode using the template, it generates the AppDelegate class, RootViewController class, and DetailViewController class. Along with that, it creates a .xib files for MainWinow.xib and DetailView.xib. How do these five files work together? Why is there a nib file for the DetailView, but not the RootView? When I double click on the MainWindow.xib file, Interface Builder launches without a "View" window, why? Below is the code for didFinishLaunchingWithOptions method inside the AppDelegate class. Why are we adding the splitViewController as a subview?
