  Hi! I have a cisco running IOS 12.0(25) responding to two different IPs addresses: IP_A and IP_B. Behind this router I also have two different servers: server_A and server_B. • Spawning HTTPD processes

  Can any confirm how Apache spawns new children ? As in if I connect to a webserver (HTTP 1.0 / no keep alive) and issue a HTTP /GET I will be spawned a new HTTPD child. If then issue another HTTP /GET then a new TCP connection will be built. However will I use the same child process of would I spawn a new one ? Also if I was using HTTP 1.1 (with keep-alive) and reused the same TCP connection, would the httpd process/spawning be any different to that if I wasnt using keepalive ? Thanks,

• Setting up a transparent proxy with only one box.

  I am playing around with transparent proxies, unfortunately I do not have two machines to test it out with. The current way I am doing things is the program makes a request to a computer on port 80, I use iptables -t nat -A OUTPUT -p tcp --destination-port 80 -j REDIRECT --to-port 1234 to redirect to my proxy that I am playing with. the proxy will send out a request to port 81 (as all outbound port 80 are being fed back in to the proxy so I want to do something like iptables -t nat -A OUTPUT -p tcp --destination-port 81 -j DNAT --to-destination xxxx:80 The problem lies with the xxxx part. How do I change the destination port without changing changing the destination ip? Or am I doing this setup completely wrong, I am learning after all and constructive criticism is definitely appreciated. The machine I am using is pretty low end so I would like not not have to create a VM with a second box unless absolutely necessary.

• Invalid Argument javascript error only on certain computers

  Getting an error whenever we click a particular button/link on our site. It is generating a javascript "Invalid Argument" error. I know in the other posts it is typically because it is a syntax error in the javascript however it only just seems to have started happening and it doesn't happen on all pcs. ie. in our client's environment if I remote onto their web server and view the uat website I get the javascript error. If I remote onto their sql server and view the uat website I don't get the javascript error. If it was a syntax error then I would always get the error wouldn't I? both browsers are the same version of IE6 (yeah I know...) :) I have tried deleting temporary internet files - including viewing the files and deleting them myself - but no joy. client uses citrix.. and they're all getting the error :( Any ideas would be appreciated - Thanks! :) Update - Sorry I haven't posted specific code as there is too much to post (and I'm not sure where the error is occurring). The "button" launches a new window which in turn opens up a couple of aspx pages and calls lots of javascript. So the window opens ok, and there's a function that gets called to resize the window - but before it calls the resizing of the window/content it throws the invalid argument error. Am busy trying to get alerts to trigger to see if I can see where it's falling over but so far no luck. Again not sure why this error doesn't occur when I use a particular PC (same browser version)

• exit /B 0 does not work...

  Hi, I have the following problem: I have created a batch script which calls itself in there (for being able to write a log in parallel). In the script I start another process (like start startServer.bat) which starts up a java process and keeps opened up all the time. In my original script I wait 30 seconds, check if the process is running and do an: exit /B 0 Unfortunately that does not work, the window shows that the exit /B 0 is being evaluated, but the window still keeps open. When I close the window with the other process (meaning the "child" processes started up in my .bat) my script continues its run. So: scriptA.bat - in there I call: start startServer.bat - wait 30 seconds - check is server is started - exit /B 0 Process hangs up! What's very odd, if I wrap another script around, like: scriptB.bat - call scriptA.bat ----- in there I call: start startServer.bat ----- wait 30 seconds ----- check is server is started ----- exit /B 0 - scriptA.bat continues without any hangup! I also tried the same with exit 0 (without /B) also, same result! In the first case it hangs up, in the second case my window closes as expected... Has anyone of you ever had such a problem before and knows what's wrong here? Process hangs up!

• Console in VS 2012 Express for C++?

  I'm very new to programming, so be nice. I was using Eclipse for C/C++ devs for a while, but it seemed quite buggy so I was advised to switch to Visual Studio Express. I'm just testing out with a simple "Hello World" program #include <iostream> #include <string> using namespace std; int main( int argc, char ** argv ) { string response; cout << "Gimme a string: " << flush; cin >> response; cout << "The string is: " << response << endl; system("pause"); return 0; } not much to go wrong there anyway, I noticed that there is no "console" like in Eclipse. All of the text pops up in a little command prompt window. And, also, this window closes right after displaying new text if there is no other things to do after it (like a cin). I have been told that I can use system("pause") but there has to be a better way. In Eclipse, the text would not suddenly disappear because the console window closed. i know this question might be a little confusing, comment and I'll try to explain what I'm saying. Or paste the codes into your Visual Studio 2012 Express Edition. But is there a way to display all of my text and whatever in a "console" as opposed to a command prompt-type window; and why does it always close before I can read the last thing?

• Get Highest Res Favicon

  I'm making a website that needs to dynamically obtain the favicon of sites upon request. I've found a few api's that can accomplish this fairly well, and so far I'm liking http://www.fvicon.com/. The final image for my website will be 64x64px, and some websites such as Google and Wordpress have nice images of this size that are easily retrieved via this api. Though, of course, most websites only have a 16x16 favicon image and scaling that image to 64x64 has very bad quality loss. Examples: (high res) http://a.fvicon.com/wordpress.com?format=png&width=64&height=64 (low res) http://a.fvicon.com/yahoo.com?format=png&width=64&height=64 Keeping this in mind, I'm planning on somehow determining whether a high-res image is available and, if so, the website will use this image. If not, I want to use a pre-made 64x64 icon with the smaller icon layered over it. What I'm having trouble with is determining if there is a high res favicon available or not. Also, I'm curious if there's a better approach to this situation. I'd rather not use smaller images (64x64 works out really well for this project). The lowest res I'm willing to drop to is 48x48 but even then there will be a significant quality loss for scaling up 16x16 favicons. Any ideas? If you need any more information I will gladly provide it. Thank you!

• Virtual bridge/switch for Windows server&client?

  I can't find a very simple application, with litle to zero configuration on both client and server side which would help one computer to bring other computers on an existing private LAN. OpenVPN seems like an overkill for this type of thing, and is really hard to get running or debug by various clueless people trying to connect. Does such a software exist? It's very odd not to. THe Windows provided VPN (PPTP over TCP and GRE) is not what I'm looking for because it is often filtered by ISPs. Only TCP and UDP solutions pls. Encryption is not needed.

  I am looking to create a very simple C# application which runs Full-Screen in Direct3D, and is able to grab the Desktop 'scene', mapping each Window from the Desktop to a Textured Polygon in my D3D Scene... I'm hoping to create a simplistic "3D Desktop" type of application as an experiment, and I'm wondering if there is a specific method for doing something like the following: 1)Get a list of all the Windows open on the Desktop (List of HWNDs?). 2)Grab the X,Y position of each Window, as well as the Width and Height. 3)Grab the Rendered image of each Window (magic happens here). 4)Create a new Texture/Surface in D3D using the Width and Height of the Window(s), and apply the Image we grabbed as a Texture. Is there an efficient 'best practice' for acquiring the actual image(s) being rendered to the Desktop? Is there also a 'best practice' for "extending the desktop" to a virtual second, third, etc. "desktop" and being able to swap between them, including creating a unique instance of the task-bar for each virtual desktop. • Host data transfer limit calculations and network protocol headers

  OK, this might be a really stupid question, but... I'm building a web app that utilises websockets. There's fairly rapid messaging going on, so I've been taking a look at the network traffic with wireshark, to see if there's any way of reducing the amount of data we are sending over the wire, and hence costs. A typical message has approx 150 byte data payload, and according to wireshark the lower layer stuff takes up about: Ethernet: 14 bytes IP: 20 Bytes TCP: 20 Bytes My question is, are these network headers included in data transfer calculations? What about TCP ACK messages? (another 54 bytes according to wireshark) This may seem petty, but because we have so much messaging going on, and because the payload is a similar size to these headers, it's significant.

• Unexpected behaviour of Process.MainWindowHandle

  I've been trying to understand Process.MainWindowHandle. According to MSDN; "The main window is the window that is created when the process is started. After initialization, other windows may be opened, including the Modal and TopLevel windows, but the first window associated with the process remains the main window." (Emphasis added) But while debugging I noticed that MainWindowHandle seemed to change value... which I wasn't expecting, especially after consulting the documentation above. To confirm the behaviour I created a standalone WinForms app with a timer to check the MainWindowHandle of the "DEVENV" (Visual Studio) process every 100ms. Here's the interesting part of this test app... • How do I fix the alpha value after calling GDI text functions?

  I have a application that uses the Aero glass effect, so each pixel has an alpha value in addition to red, green, and blue values. I have one custom-draw control that has a solid white background (alpha = 255). I would like to draw solid text on the control using the GDI text functions. However, these functions set the alpha value to an arbitrary value, causing the text to translucently show whatever window is beneath my application's. After calling rendering the text, I would like to go through all of the pixels in the control and set their alpha value back to 255. What's the best way to do that? I haven't had any luck with the BitBlt, GetPixel, and SetPixel functions. They appear to be oblivious to the alpha value. Here are other solutions that I have considered and rejected: Draw to a bitmap, then copy the bitmap to the device: With this approach, the text rendering does not make use of the characteristics of the monitor (e.g., ClearText). Use GDI+ for text rendering: This application originally used GDI+ for text rendering (before I started working on Aero support). I switched to GDI because of difficulties I encountered trying to accurately measure strings with GDI+. I'd rather not switch back. Set the Aero region to avoid the control in question: My application's window is actually a child window of a different application running in a different process. I don't have direct control over the Aero settings on the top-level window. The application is written in C# using Windows Forms, though I'm not above using Interop to call Win32 API functions.

• Been asked a dozen times, but no luck from what I've read. Prevent Anchor Jumping on page load

  I'm currently working with WP theme that can be found here: sanjay.dmediastudios.com I'm currently using 'smooth scroll' on my page, I'm attempting to have the page smoothly scroll to the requested section when coming from an external link (for instance coming from the blog page takes you to sanjay.dmediastudios.com/#portfolio) from there I want the page to start at the top and THEN scroll to the portfolio section. What's happening is it briefly displays the 'portfolio section' (anchor jump) and THEN resets to the top and scrolls down. It's driving me nuts :(. Basically, what I want to do is, I want to cache all my jQuery selectors into an object and use this object in the future.

• Use SSH reverse tunnel to bypass VPN [on hold]

  I have shell access to a server M, but I need to log into a VPN on my machine L in order to access it. I want to be able to get around this VPN, and I've heard I can do this by creating a reverse SSH tunnel and using a intermediate server E (which I can access without the VPN). This is what I am trying: Turn on VPN on L, open SSH session to M On M, execute the command: ssh -f -N -T -R 22222:localhost:22 user@E From L, try to open SSH session to E on port 22222, hoping to end up at M Step 2 seems to work without any complaint, but on step 3 I keep getting "connection refused". I have made sure that port 22222 is open on E: 7 ACCEPT tcp -- anywhere anywhere tcp dpt:22222 I'm pretty new to SSH tunnelling and not sure what the problem could be. Any ideas what I can try?

  I'm struggling with some iptables rules. I'm a newbie in iptables. I found some resources where I get the following command related to iptables. This is stored in a file that will be executed. [0:0] -A PREROUTING -s 10.1.0.0/24 -p tcp -m tcp --dport 81 -j DNAT --to-destination 10.1.0.6:3128 Can anybody explain me what does [0:0] mean? Also, some link related to this in iptables are welcome. Thanks in advance! P.S. If you need more rules, just let me know.

• Finding out inside which iframe a script is executing

  I have a page with several iframes. One of this iframes has a page from a different domain. Inside this iframe there's another iframe with a page from the parent domain. my page from mydomain.com -> an iframe -> iframe "#foo" from another-domain.com> -> iframe "#bar" from mydomain.com -> another iframe I need to get a reference to the "#foo" node inside the main page. The security model should allow me to do that because "#bar" has the same domain as the main page. So what I'm doing is iterating through the window.top array and comparing each element to the window object which is currently the "#bar" window object. My test code looks like: for (var i = 0; i < top.length; i++) { for (var j = 0; j < top[i].length; j++) { if (top[i][j] == window) { alert("The iframe number " + i + " contains me"); } } } This works fine in all browsers, but Internet Explorer 6 throws a security error when accesing top[i][j]. Any ideas on how to solve this on IE6? Thanks!

  I'm using my home server as NAT/router, which works well. • iptables to allow input and output traffic to and from web server only

  I have an Elastic Search server which seems to have been exploited (it's being used for a DDoS attack having had NO firewall for about a month). As a temporary measure while I create a new one I was hoping to block all traffic to and from the server which wasn't coming from or going to our web server. Will these iptables rules achieve this: iptables -I INPUT \! --src 1.2.3.4 -m tcp -p tcp --dport 9200 -j DROP iptables -P FORWARD \! --src 1.2.3.4 DROP iptables -P OUTPUT \! --src 1.2.3.4 DROP The first rule is tried and tested but obviously wasn't preventing traffic coming from my server to other IP addresses so I was hoping I could add the second two rules to full secure it.

  First off I'm new at programming. I'm creating an app with one navigation bar controller. The app is pretty basic except for a quiz section that is comprised of 12 xibs. As the users takes the quiz a new xib is pushed onto the stack. I want to create a button that takes the user back to the home screen if they do not want to complete the quiz. The back button takes them to the previous xib which could be 11 deep. Is it possible to dismiss the modal views and reload the rootView controller? Here's the code from my delegate @synthesize window; @synthesize navigationController; (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(UIApplication *)application { // Override point for customization after application launch [window addSubview:[navigationController view]]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; } (void)dealloc { [window release]; [navigationController release]; [super dealloc]; } This is how I'm pushing new xibs onto the stack (IBAction) showTesting: (id)sender { Testing *varTesting = [[[Testing alloc] initWithNibName:@"Testing" bundle:nil] autorelease]; [[self navigationController] pushViewController:varTesting animated: YES]; } Any help would be greatly appreciated.
