  • Can't get samba to see other PCs in Kubuntu 10.04 (Lucid)

    I'm new to networking. I'm trying to share a folder between to computers (both have kubuntu 10.04 installed). I'm able to share a folder with samba and can see that folder through samba on the same computer. But if I try to go on the other PC I can't see the first one. Both PCs are on the "workgroup" workgroup. I've tried disabling the firewall with firestarter can somebody help me? thanks

  • nginx rule to capture header and append value as query string

    I have an interesting problem I need to solve in nginx: one of the sites I'm building receives inbound traffic on port 80 (and only port 80) which may have a certain header set in the request. If this header is present I need to capture the value of it and append that as a querystring parameter before doing a temporary redirect (rewrite) to a different (secure) server, while passing the paramater and any other querystring params along. Now I am facing issues with creating new users in the active directory. I think I must create a global catalog but how? or is it possible since the original domain controller is not there anymore?     Hi, MS Word 2007 files have a property page for entering details like summary and title. This is displayed when you hover over the documents on Desktop. Now on my Windows XP SP2 computer, inside Windows Explorer, it shows the special properties for all such files from Desktop, but not from the Network Drives. This is a big problem when I have a large collection of Word documents all in one folder. How can I display these special properties (infotips) for documents in my network drives ? Thanks :)

    Hi all, I am trying to connect to mysql database on amazon through a php script, but I am shown this error: Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 111 I have tried and searched places and did the following things: In "/etc/mysql/my.cnf" I commented out the line bind address: 127.0.0.1 to allow the acccess to all. checked /etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny and made sure that there are no rules present that may cause But still no luck.     In the SuSE /etc/crontab the entry to run the cron.{hourly,daily,monthly,weekly} scripts is coded as: -*/15 * * * * root test -x /usr/lib/cron/run-crons && /usr/lib/cron/run-crons /dev/null 2&1 Notice that the very first character of the specification is a dash character (-), and this is NOT a typo. Can somebody explain what the time spec '-*/15' means? BTW, the stuff seems to be running fine. Thanks

    I am using Ubuntu 10.04, kernel 2.6.32-21-generic, with Evolution 2.83.3. I have noticed that when I get a new email, it never shows a new mail icon in the panel. I had the same problem with 9.10, and I thought the problem would go away when I upgraded to 10.04. I have checked the properties in Mail preferences: Play sound - yes Display a notification - yes Indicate new messages in panel - yes Many thanks for any suggestions.

  • Need for page file with 12 GB RAM

    Hi, I recently got my new PC with 12 GB RAM (running Windows 7 64bit). The default installation suggests a 12 GB page file on the system drive (which I think is both inefficient and expensive on a SSD drive...) I'm wondering if I need any virtual memory at all, 12 GB being more than I had on my previous machine including the page file (I had 3GB RAM + 3GB pagefile).
