  What are the minimum ports and services that should I allow/open for listen and/or transmit in my firewall (I am using Firestarter) to keep my internet running ok? Some talk about what services, which port uses, and why it matters should be nice too. Thanks for any advice. I have some bet to the answer 80 http 443 https 53 dns EDIT: I will just browse some sites. I have a windows virtual machine, so I ll use it too, bu t just normal navigation too.   I am trying to write a massive multiplayer online (mmo) for a poker site, where one user can be on a Flash client and the other on say an iOS client (iPhone / iPad), and would like to know how can interaction between two users be visible on both clients. Do I use MSMQ? AJAX? Other? I need the messaging layer (client interaction messages) to scale up to 100K+ online users to begin with.   The ASP.NET AJAX UpdatePanel provides a quick and easy way to implement a snappier, AJAX-based user interface in an ASP.NET WebForm. In a nutshell, UpdatePanels allow page developers to refresh selected parts of the page (instead of refreshing the entire page). Typically, an UpdatePanel contains user interface elements that would normally trigger a full page postback - controls like Buttons or DropDownLists that have their <code>AutoPostBack</code> property set to True. • Calling Web Service with Complex Parameters in ADF Mobile

  Many of the SOAP based web services out there have parameters of specific object types - so not just simple String/int inputs. The ADF Web service data control makes it quite simple to interact with them. And this applies also in the case of ADF Mobile. Since there were several thread on OTN asking about this - I thought I'll do a quick demo to refresh people memory about how you pass these "complex" parameters to your Web service methods. By the way - this video is also relevant if you are not doing mobile development, you'll basically use the exact same process for building "regular web" ADF applications that access these types of Web services. One more thing you might want to do after you create the page is look at the binding tab to see the method call in there, and notice the parameters for it in the structure property. Go and look at their NDValue property to get the complete picture.

• Can these game be fully coded in html5/javascript?

  I mean the mechanics of the game. Would it be possible? -Pokemon GBA series, rendering the world would be easy, but what about battle mechanics? -MapleStory, after seen dragonbound.net which is an identical copy of Gunbound I would think it's rather possible, but I'm still not sure if javascript can handle all the mechanics of the world. It would be heavy on resources I guess? I'm asking this because I'm really interested in html5 game develop(I really think in a future will destroy flash on game dev ground). I want to have an idea of how far games developed with the html5/javascript technology can go. I got especially inspired by dragonbound. I really think it pushes htmlt/javascript to the limits (game dev).

• Flashing task bar(firefox) in lxde panel and ubuntu internal error

  I have upgraded from ubuntu10.04 to 12.04 and installed lxde. The panel is now customized according to my convenience. The problem is there was a default checked option for "Flash when there is any window requiring attention" in Task bar(window list) and now when I run firefox, at times the concerned bar in the panel window list starts flashing but it is not clear exactly why at that moment firefox requires my attention. Normally this happens after I download some files (pdf files) and keep using firefox. The only solution I have found is to quit firefox and even after that I receive this message "Sorry, ubuntu12.04 has experienced an internal error. If you notice further problems, try restarting the computer." As usual I report the detailed message to ubuntu as suggested and finally restart the computer. So there are two problems, first, exactly why firefox needs my attention at times and second, why immediately after this, ubuntu experiences an internal error. Please suggest what I should do.

• Best way to slice up a non rectangular image?

  I have the image below and need to create a rollover for each "piece" or arrow in the circle. Because the image isn't rectangular, it boggles how me how I'm going to do this without having badly overlapping pieces. As you can see from the image below, the slices will overlap each other (quite a bit), which will not be good for the rollover. Does anybody have any ideas as to how to accomplish this without resorting to Flash or HTML5? The majority of our site's users use dinosaur browsers that don't support HTML5.   I made a javascript class Ball.js that handles physics interactions betweens balls as well as painting. In the v1.0, the ball vs ball collision detection and resolution is well handled. In the next version (v2), I'm trying to add edgeCollision handling. I'm having some problems, maybe you will be able to help me. • Which mobile device is appropriate as a utility tool for a web master?

  Basically, I'm looking for a device to use on the road and I would prefer to not have to sit down for the majority of the tasks (which rules out netbooks, in my mind). I'm also hoping to spend less than $500. This is what I'd like to "capably" be able to do on the device: Browse the web in non-mobile format, flash is a plus Email, chat, etc Have access to a decent text editor and ftp OR a browser that supports BESPIN/ACE Some sort of SSH support I'm looking at rooted Android phones and iPhone/iPads... though the phone aspect is only icing (it would be cool to consolidate the two devices and have net access through cell networks, but I'm not married to the idea). Are there cheap linux tablets that are ready for prime-time yet? I suppose that would be ideal. All suggestions welcome!

  As many know, if you serve a page over https and the content loads resources (images, stylesheets, js, SWF objects, etc) over http, older versions of Internet Explorer will show the user a warning saying "This page contains both secure and non-secure items". This is discomforting to many non-technical users. Usually, I can look at the HTML source and identify which item(s) are triggering this error. Sometimes a Flash object will load something else or some embedded javascript will put a new object in the DOM and trigger this. What tools are good for quickly tracking down the source of the warning?

• How to prevent my screen from either dimming or the screen-lock starting when watching YouTube?

  My screen brightness used to dim after a few seconds to preserve battery. This is default in Ubuntu 12.04. However when watching video it should not dim. This works correctly when I watch videos using native applications like VLC. With in-browser video, however, the screen is not prevented from dimming. This is very annoying as you have to move your cursor every 10 seconds or so. I used to use Mac OSX where I had the same dimming settings and Flash videos were taken into account correctly. Anyone an idea how you can make YouTube prevent your screen from dimming?

• Weird keywords in google webmaster tools

  I just happened to check the keywords list on Google Webmaster Tools for my site, which is an educational content site about finance. To my big surprise, after the first keyword, which is 'finance', I found amongst the 20 highest ranked (!) entries words like: mysql, server, adobe, flash, player, homez. What (i'm tempted to add "the heck") does that mean ? Is that something I should worry about? If so, how did these get there and how can I eliminate these / avoid they get into that list ?   Hi, I presented a talk on Windows Phone 7 @ MoMo and got awesome response, even though WP7 is quite new still. I also demoed 2 applications on both emulator and the actual device. It enjoy the look on audience faces when they see the app actually work on actual device. I see a great opportunity on WP7 and everyone I met agrees on the fact the WP7 has a very bright future ahead. The Ecosystem which WP7 has (developing/ debugging tools, emulator, almost flat learning curve,  office/sharepoint integration a lively forum, marketplace) makes it a major player in mobile, already.   A Day in the Life of an OpenWorld Attendee Part V Last day at OpenWorld.  The exhibits are closed, and the final few presentations are being given.  I spent much of the day meeting with customers to talk about SOA/OSB and Coherence.  Main event of the day was the farewell party which was loud and surprisingly well attended.  I was able to have lunch with Dave Felcey, Coherence PM, who has a great blog and is always ready to share his expertise with people. So that was OpenWOrld for another year.  I met a friend of a friend who attends OpenWorld every year and attends the Demo Grounds with a list of questions to ask people.  I think that illustrates the point that everyone approaches OpenWorld in a different way and looks to get different things from it.  For me OpenWorld is a great experience to feel the energy in Oracle and network with customers and partners.  Hope to see you there next year!

• Chrome dispay Glich when GPU acc. on

  Hy Everyone! I have some graphics glich when enable gpu acc. in chrome. If i disable acceleraion it fix the glich but, in full HD most of flash videos frame rate drop above frogs a**, so very slow... :) Any idea, what can i do? I Upload 2 pics from glich. My hardware: CM Hyper TX 3 on AMD A5300 with HD 7480D 6 GB RAM I use official AMD driver from amd.com, Ubuntu 14.04(I upgraded from 12.04, in Ubuntu 12, same glitch with old drivers.) I reinstalld x.org completly and purge all config files, but this didnt resolve the problem. • Pendrive USB Ubuntu installation - black screen on boot

  I see many posts on this, but no solution. I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my 16GB USB flash drive using this official link using their tool Universal USB Installer. Installation to USB went fine so I set my laptop to boot from USB and the Ubuntu was recognized. I saw the usual boot screen and I chose option "Run Ubuntu from this USB". The boot process started and after 5-6 seconds the screen goes black and non-responsive. I thought that it hang on X loading so I tried switching to console via Ctrl+Alt+F1-6 but the system did not respond. Why is this happening? Am I doing something wrong? PS. My laptop is HP Pavillion G6
