• Getting black images with selenium.captureScreenshot

  I'm executing selenium tests with testng, that are started on a remote system with Selenium RC via hudson (with ssh connection). The remote system is windows xp with MKS Toolkit installed, hence ssh. Tests are NOT executed as a windows service. I've tried using both captureScreenshot and captureEntirePageScreenshot methods. The first one always produces a black image. The second one creates the correct screen shot but it only works on Firefox and our tests usually pass on Firefox and fail in other browsers, so it is crucial to capture screen shots for the other browsers (mainly IE and Safari). The tests are ran in parallel, with many browser windows open at the same time. I'm not certain if this is what's causing the problem. Any thoughts will be appreciated.

• Bad http connection (400) from Simple Native Iphone App to test .net Web Service

  Dear all, I have written a simple hello world .net web service which will accept 2 parameters and return the parameters as a string. The web service is hosted by IIS on a windows xp pc. I am able to access the web service using safari on the iphone simulator, successfully tested the operation using HTTP POST by clicking the "invoke" button. However, when I use the native app on the iphone simulator, I keep getting a bad http connection error 400 on the IIS log. I have tested my native app with http://viium.com/WebService/HelloWorld.asmx and it works. I have already added Does anyone know what is wrong? Is it some settings that have not configured correctly? • What type of VPS stats should I look for?

  I have a few websites that average a total of 10,000 uniques a day across my network. I also have a few mobile apps that pull xml data maybe 5,000 calls a day. My sites aren't anything major just a few wallpaper websites and few other small sites, nothing real database intensive. I currently own a dedicated server and I feel like it's overkill for my network. I'm looking into getting a Virtual Private Server (VPS). I was just wondering what kind of stats I should be looking for to support my network of sites. Thanks

• IE not detecting jquery change method for checkbox

  The code below works in FF, Safari, Chrome. But IE is giving me issues. • Is there any SMS/MMS server for LAN environment

  I am looking for a solution to send SMS/MMS message to mobile device from desktop or browser in LAN environment. As such, it is most probably using TCP/IP protocol to transmit request/response. The server may attach to a GSM device with SIM card attached. An server application would then start accept the request from any LAN client and convey the SMS/MMS to one or more recipients. The server may log all requests for further traffic analysis in later stage. Is there any solution that able to perform what I describe here. Please advice.

Full Rate or FR or GSM-FR or GSM 06.10 was the first digital speech coding standard used in the GSM digital mobile phone system. The bit rate of the codec is 13 kbit/s, or 1.625 bits/audio sample. And this one is an excerpt from wikipedia about bit. In computing parlance, bit is the abbreviation for a single binary digit, represented by a 0 or a 1. How could I represent 1.625 by 0 or a 1? Actually, that's my lecturer's question that I could not answer. Some links to papers are more than welcome. Thanks in advance.

• Does UIWebView support javascript-based double-click events?

  As usual, I'm trying to do something the easiest way possible, in this case implement a double-tap handler on a UIWebView like so: <div id="foo" ondblclick="clickHandler(this);" ... > It works fine in Safari and Firefox, and I know the code containing clickHandler is loading on the iPhone thanks to a now-annoying alert stmt at the end of loading. If I change ondblclick to onclick it works on both the device and the simulator. From reading similar queries it would seem that I need to intercept the taps in ... and then run my JavaScript code with the stringByEvaluatingJavaScriptFromString method, but then how do I know the JS id of the target? I no like that, would rather write a pure HTML/DOM/JS solution. Or since my app is about 80% web content, should I be using phonegap instead?

• image rendering issue

  I am running Apache/2.2.3 (CentOS). For some reason certain images, jpg, gif, or png will show up as byte code when accessed directly on the server. Firefox 3 and Safari both think the content type is text/html. IE I believe has something built in to recognize it is an image and ignore the content type and renders the image correctly regardless. I can't seem to find anyone else with this issue. An example of this can be found at http://www.thedacs.com/admin/gp/userfiles/image/gp28%5Fimg%5F01.jpg but the image below on same server the image is rendered correctly (use same path from above) Fig3mod.jpg The first image works fine in Photoshop CS, Illistrator, GIMP, Paint.net,and any other image editing software. I have tried everything when editing the images from trying multiple file formats to print screens and cropping to create a new image to lose old image meta data. Can anybody help?

• Website looks weird in internet explorer 7, but fine in IE 6 and 8

  I used many different browsers while I was coding for a new site (Firefox, Chrome, IE8, Opera, Safari, Mobile devices, etc...). It looked the same across all browsers. I recently uploaded the site onto the server and got to look at it from work, using Internet Explorer 7 and It looks horrible. Elements are floating wild all over the place, but I cant figure out why. The weird thing is I just looked at it from IE6, and it looks fine, with the exception of unsupported transparencies in PNG's. If anybody has IE7, you can view the site here. Thanks

• Can't connect to exchange thru my smart phone

  We just moved Exchange server from our company to Local data center. Everything is working except mobile access. There is no problem with receiving and sending email from outlook of my laptop, but I can’t connect to exchange server from my smart phone to receive email. While I am setting up exchange account for my phone(Google) , it recognizes when I put wrong password. But it says “Unable to open connection to server” with right password and ID. Is there any option for IP address for this service when I move my server to different location? Please, help me out for any clue.

• Running complete Native Linux on phones that are bootloader-unlocked [on hold]

  Since there are many phones (HTC, Samsung, LG, Nexus) today that have bootloader unlocked, I want to ask what's preventing them from running a complete native GNU/Linux. GNU/Linux has ARM port and we can run a command line GNU/Linux on top of Android by the method of chroot. So, what's preventing for existing bootloader unlocked Android phones from running a complete GNU/Linux natively? The device should get a long shelf life if it has one such port. My few thoughts.. Proprietary drivers for hardware that cannot be made to work when using a different OS. And the binary provider will never support any OS other than what the phone is shipped with. Application Interface. The interface for desktop apps doesn't fit to the mobile display with different PPI. Kernel. Since android devices use Linux kernel whose sources should be available, could the device kernel be modified to work with GNU/Linux. And any other reasons?

  I am attempting to implement the Google Translate Widget where you include a piece of javascript code into your page and it gives you a language dropdown. This was very straightforward however, it does not work in Firefox. It works in IE, Safari, Chrome. Has anybody experience this problem and is there any workaround? With some research, it seems that people said that it used flash. However, I don't have any flashblock installed or anything like that. • QR Codes for Files on Google Code

  Hi, When you download files from Google Code now (example), in addition to the text version of the SHA1 hash, it includes a QR code of it. The device that the file was downloaded to is the one that has to hash the file. But, if it can download the file (ie, has access to the webpage), it also has access to the text version of the hash, so the QR code seems completely useless—and more work to decode when the raw text is available. How would reading the hash into a mobile phone allow you to verify the file you download to the computer? Or if you download the file to the phone, how would you use the phone to take a picture of the QR code displayed on the webpage on its own screen? Does anyone know what the point to the QR code is or how you would use it to verify the downloaded file (I don’t mean QR codes in general, but specifically in this context).

• Flash receives mouse events under an HTML element when opacity set

  I have an HTML document with a Flash object and an absolutely positioned HTML element above it. If I set the HTML element's opacity CSS property to any value less than 1, the Flash object (that is actually covered) receives mouse events. This problem cannot be reproduced with pure HTML elements. Furthermore, Flash only receives hover events, so I cannot click below the layer. I put a demonstration of the problem online. I get this behavior in Firefox 3.6, Safari 4.0 and Chrome 5.0 in both Mac and Windows. Flash plugin version 10 is installed. Is it a bug or the the normal and expected behavior? If the latter, then how can I prevent Flash receiving events when it is covered with a translucent layer?

• Why does Chrome ignore local jQuery cookies?

  I am using the jQuery Cookie plugin (download and demo and source code with comments) to set and read a cookie. I'm developing the page on my local machine. The following code will successfully set a cookie in FireFox 3, IE 7, and Safari (PC). But if the browser is Google Chrome AND the page is a local file, it does not work. $.cookie("nameofcookie", cookievalue, {path: "/", expires: 30}); What I know: The plugin's demo works with Chrome. If I put my code on a web server (address starting with http://), it works with Chrome. So the cookie fails only for Google Chrome on local files. Possible causes: Google Chrome doesn't accept cookies from web pages on the hard drive (paths like file:///C:/websites/foo.html) Something in the plugin implentation causes Chrome to reject such cookies Can anyone confirm this and identify the root cause?

• IE browser problems occurring with Javascript Movable Type SignIn widget!

  i am using movable type 4.23 (publishing system) and have been testing my site on a PC and discovered that internet explorer (IE) browsers are unable to view my site due to a conflict in the javascript of the signin widget (initially i thought it was in the mt.js file). i receive this error: "Error 80004004"...as well as in the Javascript itself: "Element is not an object" (or object is not an element?)... function mtUpdateSignInWidget(u) { var el = document.getElementById('signin-widget-content'); if i put in "id" where 'sign-widget-content' goes, it will say its not an object. all other browsers work perfectly (firefox, safari and opera on my mac and firefox on pc). if anyone wants a link to the test page, i can provide that... someone please help! thanks.

• Why can't I set a cookie and redirect?

  I´m having a problem setting a cookie and doing a 302 redirect In chrome the cookie is not being set (I haven't tested safari), in other browsers I was having the same problem until I added Path=/ to the cookie an now it works. • Aero bug in Windows 7

  Have you seen anything like this before? Not always but permanently shows up this strange behaviour. What's the name of that problem? And - ofcoz:) - how can I solve it? • Use Outlook 2007 to connect to mail using active sync protocol

  Has anyone tried connected outlook(I am running v2007 on Windows 7) to a mail service using the MS Exchange Active Sync protocol? I know it is intended for mobile devices, but to me it looks like it is becoming the latest 'de facto' mail protocol for email/calendar/contact sync'ing due to the iPhone's support for it. I just think it would be an elegant solution to get my lotus notes mail in outlook(my company uses lotus notes with traveler service installed that exposes mail over the active sync protocol so I can currently read my notes mail via iPhone). This solution would probably eliminate the need for all the hacks needed to connect outlook to 'X' mail (Gmail, notes, etc) So, maybe someone out there has tried this or knows how to do it before spend time on more researching this. • What is this obscure error in Google Analytics tracking code on a _trackEvent() call?

  I am calling the Google Analytics _trackEvent() function on a web page, and get back an error from the obfuscated Google code. In Firebug, it comes back "q is undefined". In Safari developer console: "TypeError: Result of expression 'q' [undefined] is not an object." As a test, I have reduced the page to only this call, and still get the error back. Besides the necessary elements and the standard Google tracking code, my page is: <script> pageTracker._trackEvent('Survey', 'Checkout - Survey', 'Rating', 3); </script> Results is that error. What's going on here?
