  • C#/ASP.NET MVC 4 Instantiate Object Derived From Interface In Factory Method

    - by Chris
    Currently have a Factory class that features a GetSelector function, which returns a concrete implementation of ISelector. I have several different classes that implement ISelector and based on a setting I would like to receive the appropriate ISelector back. public interface ISelector { string GetValue(string Params); } public class XmlSelector : ISelector { public string GetValue(string Params) { // open XML file and get value } } public static class SelectorFactory { public static ISelector GetSelector() { return new XmlSelector(); // Needs changing to look at settings } } My question is what is the best way to store the setting? I am aware of using AppSettings etc. but I'm not sure whether I want to have to store strings in the web.config and perform a switch on it - just seems to be really tightly coupled in that if a new implementation of ISelector is made, then the Factory would need to be changed. Is there any way of perhaps storing an assembly name and instantiating based on that? Thanks, Chris

  • Delegate Instantiation -Clarification

    - by nettguy
    When i have delegate like public delegate void PrintMe(); (1) PrintMe a = delegate() { MessageBox.Show("Hello"); }; a(); (2) PrintMe b = () => { MessageBox.Show("Hello"); }; b(); (3) PrintMe c = new PrintMe(HelpMe); c(); static void HelpMe() { MessageBox.Show("Help Me"); } for (1) and (2) I did not instatntiate the delegate it is directly pointing to anonymous methods.But as in the case of (3) I need to instatntiate the delegate and pass the static method.for case (3) can't i declare like PrintMe c= HelpMe(); ?.How does (1) and (2) work?

  • I need a groovy criteria to get all the elements after i make sort on nullable inner object

    - by user1773876
    I have two domain classes named IpPatient,Ward as shown below. class IpPatient { String ipRegNo Ward ward static constraints = { ward nullable:true ipRegNo nullable:false } } class Ward { String name; static constraints = { name nullable:true } } now i would like to create criteria like def criteria=IpPatient.createCriteria() return criteria.list(max:max , offset:offset) { order("ward.name","asc") createAlias('ward', 'ward', CriteriaSpecification.LEFT_JOIN) } At present IpPatient table has 13 records, where 8 records of IpPatient doesn't have ward because ward can be null. when i sort with wardName i am getting 5 records those contain ward. I need a criteria to get all the elements after i make sort on nullable inner object.

  • REG GENERIC METHOD

    - by googler1
    Hi buddies, I had a thought on using the generic method in c# as like we do in c++. Normally a method looks like this: public static (void/int/string) methodname((datatype) partameter) { return ...; } I had a thought whether can we implement the generics to this method like this: public static <T> methodname(<T> partameter) { return ...; } Using as a generic to define the datatype. Can anyone pls suggest whether the above declaration is correct and can be used in c#? Thanks in advance.

  • How to create a VS2010 extension that uses Language Services

    - by Hades32
    Creating extensions got much easier with Vs2010, but this seems not to be the case for everything... My aim: I wnat to make method calls and property uses of STATIC classes ITALIC. (Just like Eclipse and Java) I think I need to talk to the C# Language Service for this information, but searching for "Language Service" just yields results on how to CREATE one, not how to use one of the existing ones... To get this question a little more general: How do I get information about properties of the code (static/visibility etc) for using it in a VSX?

  • While loop in IL - why stloc.0 and ldloc.0?

    - by Michael Stum
    I'm trying to understand how a while loop looks in IL. I have written this C# function: static void Brackets() { while (memory[pointer] > 0) { // Snipped body of the while loop, as it's not important } } The IL looks like this: .method private hidebysig static void Brackets() cil managed { // Code size 37 (0x25) .maxstack 2 .locals init ([0] bool CS$4$0000) IL_0000: nop IL_0001: br.s IL_0012 IL_0003: nop // Snipped body of the while loop, as it's not important IL_0011: nop IL_0012: ldsfld uint8[] BFHelloWorldCSharp.Program::memory IL_0017: ldsfld int16 BFHelloWorldCSharp.Program::pointer IL_001c: ldelem.u1 IL_001d: ldc.i4.0 IL_001e: cgt IL_0020: stloc.0 IL_0021: ldloc.0 IL_0022: brtrue.s IL_0003 IL_0024: ret } // end of method Program::Brackets For the most part this is really simple, except for the part after cgt. What I don't understand is the local [0] and the stloc.0/ldloc.0. As far as I see it, cgt pushes the result to the stack, stloc.0 gets the result from the stack into the local variable, ldloc.0 pushes the result to the stack again and brtrue.s reads from the stack. What is the purpose of doing this? Couldn't this be shortened to just cgt followed by brtrue.s?

  • What is bootstrap listener in the context of Spring framework?

    - by jillionbug2fix
    I am studying Spring framework, in web.xml I added following which is a bootstrap listener. Can anyone give me a proper idea of what is a bootstrap listener? <listener> <listener-class>org.springframework.web.context.ContextLoaderListener</listener-class> </listener> You can see the doc here: ContextLoadListener Bootstrap listener to start up and shut down Spring's root WebApplicationContext. Simply delegates to ContextLoader as well as to ContextCleanupListener. This listener should be registered after Log4jConfigListener in web.xml, if the latter is used. As of Spring 3.1, ContextLoaderListener supports injecting the root web application context via the ContextLoaderListener(WebApplicationContext) constructor, allowing for programmatic configuration in Servlet 3.0+ environments. See WebApplicationInitializer for usage examples...

  • Convert a generic list to an array

    - by Freewind
    I have searched for this, but unfortunately, I don't get the correct answer. class Helper { public static <T> T[] toArray(List<T> list) { T[] array = (T[]) new Object[list.size()]; for (int i = 0; i < list.size(); i++) { array[i] = list.get(i); } return array; } } Test it: public static void main(String[] args) { List<String> list = new ArrayList<String>(); list.add("abc"); String[] array = toArray(list); System.out.println(array); } But there is an error thrown: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ClassCastException: [Ljava.lang.Object; cannot be cast to [Ljava.lang.String; at test.Helper.main(Helper.java:30) How to solve this?

  • Open Source Errors on Apple Cruch

    - by BluFire
    I've been looking around and I finally got the full source code called Apple-Crunch from google code. But when I put it into my project, the source code included so many errors in the class files such as: cannot be resolved into a type the constructor is undefined the method method() is undefined for the type Sprite class.java I downloaded the source directly from the command-line and noticed errors popping up on my project. Since i couldn't figure out how to import the actual folder into my workspace(it wouldn't show up on existing projects) I decided to copy and overwrite the folders into the project. The Errors were still there so I looked at the class files and noticed that the classes with errors extended from 'RokonActivity'. I then proceeded to add to the libs folder the rokon library in hopes to fix the errors. Sadly it didn't work and now I don't what to do to fix the errors. How do i fix the errors without having to manually change the code? The source code should be fully functional so why is there errors?

  • JustCode Provides Reflector Alternative

    - by Joe Mayo
    If you've been a loyal Reflector user, you've probably been exposed to the debacle surrounding RedGate's decision to no longer offer a free version.  Since then, the race has begun for a replacement with a provider that would stand by their promises to the community.  Mono has an ongoing free alternative, which has been available for a long time.  However, other vendors are stepping up to the plate, with their own offerings. If Not Reflector, Then What? One of these vendors is Telerik.  In their recent Q1 2011 release of JustCode, Telerik offers a decompilation utility rivaling what we've become accustomed to in Reflector.  Not only does Telerik offer a usable replacement, but they've (in my opinion), produced a product that integrates more naturally with visual Studio than any other product ever has.  Telerik's decompilation process is so easy that the accompanying demo in this post is blindingly short (except for the presence of verbose narrative). If you want to follow along with this demo, you'll need to have Telerik JustCode installed.  If you don't have JustCode yet, you can buy it or download a trial at the Telerik Web site . A Tall Tale; Prove It! With JustCode, you can view code in the .NET Framework or any other 3rd party library (that isn't well obfuscated).  This demo depends on LINQ to Twitter, which you can download from CodePlex.com and create a reference or install the package online as described in my previous post on NuGet.  Regardless of the method, you'll have a project with a reference to LINQ to Twitter.  Use a Console Project if you want to follow along with this demo. Note:  If you've created a Console project, remember to ensure that the Target Framework is set to .NET Framework 4.  The default is .NET Framework 4 Client Profile, which doesn't work with LINQ to Twitter.  You can check by double-clicking the Properties folder on the project and inspecting the Target Framework setting. Next, you'll need to add some code to your program that you want to inspect. Here, I add code to instantiate a TwitterContext, which is like a LINQ to SQL DataContext, but works with Twitter: var l2tCtx = new TwitterContext(); If you're following along add the code above to the Main method, which will look similar to this: using LinqToTwitter; namespace NuGetInstall { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { var l2tCtx = new TwitterContext(); } } } The code above doesn't really do anything, but it does give something that I can show and demonstrate how JustCode decompilation works. Once the code is in place, click on TwitterContext and press the F12 (Go to Definition) key.  As expected, Visual Studio opens a metadata file with prototypes for the TwitterContext class.  Here's the result: Opening a metadata file is the normal way that Visual Studio works when navigating to the definition of a type where you don't have the code.  The scenario with TwitterContext happens because you don't have the source code to the file.  Visual Studio has always done this and you can experiment by selecting any .NET type, i.e. a string type, and observing that Visual Studio opens a metadata file for the .NET String type. The point I'm making here is that JustCode works the way Visual Studio works and you'll see how this can make your job easier. In the previous figure, you only saw prototypes associated with the code. i.e. Notice that the default constructor is empty.  Again, this is normal because Visual Studio doesn't have the ability to decompile code.  However, that's the purpose of this post; showing you how JustCode fills that gap. To decompile code, right click on TwitterContext in the metadata file and select JustCode Navigate -> Decompile from the context menu.  The shortcut keys are Ctrl+1.  After a brief pause, accompanied by a progress window, you'll see the metadata expand into full decompiled code. Notice below how the default constructor now has code as opposed to the empty member prototype in the original metadata: And Why is This So Different? Again, the big deal is that Telerik JustCode decompilation works in harmony with the way that Visual Studio works.  The navigate to functionality already exists and you can use that, along with a simple context menu option (or shortcut key) to transform prototypes into decompiled code. Telerik is filling the the Reflector/Red Gate gap by providing a supported alternative to decompiling code.  Many people, including myself, used Reflector to decompile code when we were stuck with buggy libraries or insufficient documentation.  Now we have an alternative that's officially supported by a company with an excellent track record for customer (developer) service, Telerik.  Not only that, JustCode has several other IDE productivity tools that make the deal even sweeter. • How can I selectively update XNA GameComponents?

    - by Bill
    I have a small 2D game I'm working on in XNA. So far, I have a player-controlled ship that operates on vector thrust and is terribly fun to spin around in circles. I've implemented this as a DrawableGameComponent and registered it with the game using game.Components.Add(this) in the Ship object constructor. How can I implement features like pausing and a menu system with my current implementation? Is it possible to set certain GameComponents to not update? Is this something for which I should even be using a DrawableGameComponent? If not, what are more appropriate uses for this?

  • What if we run out of stack space in C# or Python?

    - by dotneteer
    Supposing we are running a recursive algorithm on a very large data set that requires, say, 1 million recursive calls. Normally, one would solve such a large problem by converting recursion to a loop and a stack, but what if we do not want to or cannot rewrite the algorithm? Python has the sys.setrecursionlimit(int) method to set the number of recursions. However, this is only part of the story; the program can still run our of stack space. C# does not have a equivalent method. Fortunately, both C# and Python have option to set the stack space when creating a thread. In C#, there is an overloaded constructor for the Thread class that accepts a parameter for the stack size: Thread t = new Thread(work, stackSize); In Python, we can set the stack size by calling: threading.stack_size(67108864) We can then run our work under a new thread with increased stack size.

  • Hibernate error: cannot resolve table

    - by Roman
    I'm trying to make work the example from hibernate reference. I've got simple table Pupil with id, name and age fields. I've created correct (as I think) java-class for it according to all java-beans rules. I've created configuration file - hibernate.cfg.xml, just like in the example from reference. I've created hibernate mapping for one class Pupil, and here is the error occured. <hibernate-mapping> <class name="Pupil" table="pupils"> ... </class> </hibernate-mapping> table="pupils" is red in my IDE and I see message "cannot resolve table pupils". I've also founded very strange note in reference which says that most users fail with the same problem trying to run the example. Ah.. I'm very angry with this example.. IMHO if authors know that there is such problem they should add some information about it. But, how should I fix it? I don't want to deal with Ant here and with other instruments used in example. I'm using MySql 5.0, but I think it doesn't matter. • Trying to write a loop that uses an OutputStream to write to a text file.

    - by Steve McLain
    I'm not a java programmer, I'm a VB programmer. I am doing this as part of an assignment, however, I'm not asking for help on something assignment related. I'd like to figure out how to get the OutputStreamWriter to work properly in this instance. I just want to capture the values I'm generating and place them into a text document. The file is generated, but only one entry exists, not the 40 I'm expecting. I could do this in a heartbeat with VB, but java feels very strange to me right now. Your help is appreciated. Thanks, Steve Here's the code: public static void main(String[] args){ long start, end; double result,difference; try {//OutputStream code assistance from http://tutorials.jenkov.com/java-io/outputstreamwriter.html OutputStream outputStream = new FileOutputStream("c:\\Temp\\output1.txt"); Writer out = new OutputStreamWriter(outputStream); for(int n=1; n<=20; n++){ //Calculate the Time for n^2. start = System.nanoTime(); //Add code to call method to calculate n^2 result = mN2(n); end = System.nanoTime(); difference = (end - start); //Output results to a file out.write("N^2 End time: " + end + " Difference: " + difference + "\n"); out.close(); } } catch (IOException e){ } try { OutputStream outputStream = new FileOutputStream("c:\\Temp\\output1.txt"); Writer out = new OutputStreamWriter(outputStream); for(int n=1; n<=20; n++){ //Calculate the Time for 2^n. start = System.nanoTime(); //Add code to call method to calculate 2^n result = m2N(n); end = System.nanoTime(); difference = (end - start); //Output results to a file out.write("N^2 End time: " + end + " Difference: " + difference + "\n"); out.close(); } } catch (IOException e){ } } //Calculate N^2 public static double mN2(double n) { n = n*n; return n; } //Calculate 2N public static double m2N (double n) { n = 2*n; return n; }

  • Calling Html.ActionLink in a custom HTML helper

    - by Sylvain
    I am designing a custom HTML helper and I would like to execute Html.ActionLink to provide dynamic URL generation. namespace MagieMVC.Helpers { public static class HtmlHelperExtension { public static string LinkTable(this HtmlHelper helper, List<Method> items) { string result = String.Empty; foreach (Method m in items) { result += String.Format( "<label class=\"label2\">{0}</label>" + System.Web.Mvc.Html.ActionLink(...) + "<br />", m.Category.Name,m.ID, m.Name); } return result; } } } Unfortunately Html.ActionLink is not recognized in this context whatever the namespace I have tried to declare. As a generic question, I would like to know if it is possible to use any existing standard/custom Html helper method when designing a new custom helper. Thanks.

  • Communication between Page and User Controls

    - by Narmatha Balasundaram
    I have a main page that has multiple user controls on it. All the user controls have static text and some data to be retrieved from the DB. The aysnchronous DB call is clubbed at the page level and one call is made to avoid multiple calls (in the different user controls) to get the same data. I want the page and user controls to load initially with the static text and later refresh the contents obtained from the server. To sum it all up, Page Loads = Asyn calls fired on page load = Data received back from the server (XML/text/whatever) = User controls to load with this data using AJAX. What methods do I have to let the user controls know that I have the data from the server and they need to update with this data?

  • How build my own Application Setting

    - by adisembiring
    I want to build a ApplicationSetting for my application. The ApplicationSetting can be stored in a properties file or in a database table. The settings are stored in key-value pairs. E.g. ftp.host = blade ftp.username = dummy ftp.pass = pass content.row_pagination = 20 content.title = How to train your dragon. I have designed it as follows: Application settings reader: interface IApplicationSettingReader { read(); } DatabaseApplicationSettingReader { dao appSettingDao; AppSettings read() { List<AppSettingEntity> listEntity = appSettingsDao.findAll(); Map<String, String> map = new HaspMap<String, String>(); foreach (AppSettingEntity entity : listEntity) { map.put(entity.getConfigName(), entity.getConfigValue()); } return new AppSettings(map); } } DatabaseApplicationSettingReader { dao appSettingDao; AppSettings read() { //read from some properties file return new AppSettings(map); } } Application settings class: AppSettings { private static AppSettings instance; private Map map; Public AppSettings(Map map) { this.map = map; } public static AppSettings getInstance() { if (instance == null) { throw new RuntimeException("Object not configure yet"); } return instance; } public static configure(IApplicationSettingReader reader) { instance = reader.read(); } public String getFtpSetting(String param) { return map.get("ftp." + param); } public String getContentSetting(String param) { return map.get("content." + param); } } Test class: AppSettingsTest { IApplicationSettingReader reader; @Before public void setUp() throws Exception { reader = new DatabaseApplicationSettingReader(); } @Test public void getContentSetting_should_get_content_title() { AppSettings.configure(reader); Instance settings = AppSettings.getInstance(); String title = settings.getContentSetting("title"); assertNotNull(title); Sysout(title); } } My questions are: Can you give your opinion about my code, is there something wrong? I configure my application setting once, while the application start, I configure the application setting with appropriate reader (DbReader or PropertiesReader), I make it singleton. The problem is, when some user edit the database or file directly to database or file, I can't get the changed values. Now, I want to implement something like ApplicationSettingChangeListener. So if the data changes, I will refresh my application settings. Do you have any suggestions how this can be implemented?

What domain model implementation should I use in my case ? I would like to keep the dynamic finders usability in my project.

  • Is it a good way to close a thread?

    - by Roman
    I have a short version of the question: I start a thread like that: counter.start();, where counter is a thread. At the point when I want to stop the thread I do that: counter.interrupt() In my thread I periodically do this check: Thread.interrupted(). If it gives true I return from the thread and, as a consequence, it stops. And here are some details, if needed: If you need more details, they are here. From the invent dispatch thread I start a counter thread in this way: public static void start() { SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() { public void run() { showGUI(); counter.start(); } }); } where the thread is defined like that: public static Thread counter = new Thread() { public void run() { for (int i=4; i>0; i=i-1) { updateGUI(i,label); try {Thread.sleep(1000);} catch(InterruptedException e) {}; } // The time for the partner selection is over. SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() { public void run() { frame.remove(partnerSelectionPanel); frame.add(selectionFinishedPanel); frame.invalidate(); frame.validate(); } }); } }; The thread performs countdown in the "first" window (it shows home much time left). If time limit is over, the thread close the "first" window and generate a new one. I want to modify my thread in the following way: public static Thread counter = new Thread() { public void run() { for (int i=4; i>0; i=i-1) { if (!Thread.interrupted()) { updateGUI(i,label); } else { return; } try {Thread.sleep(1000);} catch(InterruptedException e) {}; } // The time for the partner selection is over. if (!Thread.interrupted()) { SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() { public void run() { frame.remove(partnerSelectionPanel); frame.add(selectionFinishedPanel); frame.invalidate(); frame.validate(); } }); } else { return; } } };

  • If Possible, How Can One Set Either a Background Color on Cells within a Sizer or Gridlines for the

    - by MetaHyperBolic
    I am flailing about with wxWidgets, in particular, the wx.Sizer in wxPython. I have read the documents, I have a copy of wXPython in Action before me, and have set aside the problem to work on other things a better mental model of sizers hopefully gestated within my skull. None of this has worked. I am not grokking, or even getting to the point where I can bang about usefully, how sizers work. In HTML, I could at least set a background color on some div or td, or call forth borders so I could see how things are laid out. Here, I have a grey expanse and no idea which of the nested static box sizers from which it originates. I am giving static box sizers after making a mess out of the grid bag sizers. Either alternative would let me at least get a handle on how these work.

  • Compilers behave differently with a null parameter of a generic method

    - by Eyal Schneider
    The following code compiles perfectly with Eclipse, but fails to compile with javac: public class HowBizarre { public static <P extends Number, T extends P> void doIt(P value) { } public static void main(String[] args) { doIt(null); } } I simplified the code, so T is not used at all now. Still, I don't see a reason for the error. For some reason javac decides that T stands for Object, and then complains that Object does not conform to the bounds of T (which is true): HowBizarre.java:6: incompatible types; inferred type argument(s) java.lang.Number,java.lang.Object do not conform to bounds of type variable (s) P,T found : <P,T>void required: void doIt(null); ^ Note that if I replace the null parameter with a non-null value, it compiles fine. Which of the compilers behaves correctly and why? Is this a bug of one of them?

  • Dependency Injection and Unit of Work pattern

    - by sunwukung
    I have a dilemma. I've used DI (read: factory) to provide core components for a homebrew ORM. The container provides database connections, DAO's,Mappers and their resultant Domain Objects on request. Here's a basic outline of the Mappers and Domain Object classes class Mapper{ public function __constructor($DAO){ $this->DAO = $DAO; } public function load($id){ if(isset(Monitor::members[$id]){ return Monitor::members[$id]; $values = $this->DAO->selectStmt($id); //field mapping process omitted for brevity $Object = new Object($values); return $Object; } } class User(){ public function setName($string){ $this->name = $string; //mark modified by means fair or foul } } The ORM also contains a class (Monitor) based on the Unit of Work pattern i.e. class Monitor(){ private static array modified; private static array dirty; public function markClean($class); public function markModified($class); } The ORM class itself simply co-ordinates resources extracted from the DI container. So, to instantiate a new User object: $Container = new DI_Container; $ORM = new ORM($Container); $User = $ORM->load('user',1); //at this point the container instantiates a mapper class //and passes a database connection to it via the constructor //the mapper then takes the second argument and loads the user with that id $User->setName('Rumpelstiltskin');//at this point, User must mark itself as "modified" My question is this. At the point when a user sets values on a Domain Object class, I need to mark the class as "dirty" in the Monitor class. I have one of three options as I can see it 1: Pass an instance of the Monitor class to the Domain Object. I noticed this gets marked as recursive in FirePHP - i.e. $this-Monitor-markModified($this) 2: Instantiate the Monitor directly in the Domain Object - does this break DI? 3: Make the Monitor methods static, and call them from inside the Domain Object - this breaks DI too doesn't it? What would be your recommended course of action (other than use an existing ORM, I'm doing this for fun...)
