  I have various web pages that need to build up a URL to display or place it in an emitted email message. The code I inherited had this value for the name of the webserver in a Public Const in a Public Class called FixedConstants. I know Request.UserHostName or Request.ServerVariables("REMOTE_HOST") works when invoked from a page but why does this return empty when invoked from a called method of a class file (i.e. UIFunction.vb)?

• Seeking automated toolchain for WAV cleanup and conversion to MP3 (currently using Audacity manually

  I use Finale with the Garritan sounds to convert my music into WAV files; after that I manually load each one into Audacity and select all use the "normalize" effect (with default settings) manually select the silence at the beginning of the file and delete it manually select the silence at the end of the file and delete it finally export the whole thing as an MP3 (with specific tag data) This gets tedious, especially as I work on a ten-movement piece with six part-prominent rehearsal "tapes" to accompany the full-score rendition. And there are too many variations in what's going on for me to trust AutoHotKey for this one. Is there a way to script Audacity, or is there another toolchain that would do what I want? I'm running on a WindowsXP laptop with cygwin installed. Thanks!

• MySQL configuration that allows for locking many tables?

  I need to do a MySQLDump on a DB with ~700 tables and when I try with my current configuration, I get an error: mysqldump: Got error: 1016: Can't open file: './my_db/content_node_field_instance.frm' (errno: 24) when using LOCK TABLES Searching around I've found that this happens because it tries to lock all tables and fails because they are "too many". I know I can try lock-tables=no and get a dump, but this way my DB might be in an inconsistent state. So, does anyone know what is the MySQL configuration setting I need to change in order to be able to do the locking I need? I'm running 5.1.37-1ubuntu5.1 with MyISAM. Thanks!

• Form submits correctly in Chrome/FF, but fails altogether in IE/Safari

  I have a form with a css submit button. When a the submit button is clicked, i call a function that executes: document.forms["request"].onsubmit(); What should happen, then, is that the onsubmit method ought to be triggered. This works properly in Chrome/FF, but for some reason IE/Safari will bypass the onsubmit function and simply add the parameter "address=" onto the url as if it were submitting the form and ignoring the onsubmit function. • Programs minimized for long time takes long time to "wake up"

  I'm working in Photoshop CS6 and multiple browsers a lot. I'm not using them all at once, so sometimes some applications are minimized to taskbar for hours or days. The problem is, when I try to maximize them from the taskbar - it sometimes takes longer than starting them! Especially Photoshop feels really weird for many seconds after finally showing up, it's slow, unresponsive and even sometimes totally freezes for minute or two. It's not a hardware problem as it's been like that since always on all on my PCs. Would I also notice it after upgrading my HDD to SDD and adding RAM (my main PC holds 4 GB currently)? Could guys with powerful pcs / macs tell me - does it also happen to you? I guess OSes somehow "focus" on active software and move all the resources away from the ones that run, but are not used. Is it possible to somehow set RAM / CPU / HDD priorities or something, for let's say, Photoshop, so it won't slow down after long period of inactivity?

• .NET Impersonate not working!

  I have a webpage that allows a user to upload a file to a network share. When I run the webpage locally (within VS 2008) and try to upload the file, it works! However, when I deploy the website to the webserver and try to upload the file through the webpage, it doesn't work! The error being returned to me on the webserver says "Access to the path '\05prd1\emp\test.txt' is denied. So, obviously, this is a permissions issue. The network share is configured to allow full access both to me (NT authentication) and to the NETWORK SERVICE (which is .NET's default account and what we have set in our IIS application pool as the default user for this website). I have tried this with and without authentication, and neither one works on the webserver, yet both ways works on my local machine. The code that does the file upload is below. • Cannot Extend Django 1.2.1 Admin Template

  I am attempting to override/extend the header for the Django admin in version 1.2.1. However when I try to extend the admin template and simply change what I need documented here: http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/ref/contrib/admin/#overriding-vs-replacing-an-admin-template), I run into a recursion problem. I have an index.html file in my project's templates/admin/ directory that starts with {% extends "admin/index.html" %} But it seems that this is referencing the local index file (a.k.a. itself) rather than the default Django copy. I want to extend the default Django template and simply change a few blocks. When I try this file, I get a recursion depth error. How can I extend parts of the admin? Thanks.

• How do you test if a PCI slot is working - motherboard diagnostic software?

  I suspect that my motherboard is bad, and that my PCI-E slot is not working. I have a Gigabyte motherboard that had a Hauppage 2250 working fine in the PCI-E slot for many months. However - recently - would not get TV channels that I used to get --- until finally Media center cant detect any channels at all. Got a new tuner card (ATI 350 card) - cant detect any channels. The cable signal is good - I have it connected directly to a TV - all channels come in clear. SO that is why I suspect a motherboard problem. Are there any motherboard diagnostic scanner utilities that can verify I need a new motherboard

• How to make strtotime parse dates in Australian (i.e. UK) format: dd/mm/yyyy?

  I can't beleive I've never come across this one before. Basically, I'm parsing the text in human-created text documents and one of the fields I need to parse is a date and time. Because I'm in Australia, dates are formatted like dd/mm/yyyy but strtotime only wants to parse it as a US formatted date. Also, exploding by / isn't going to work because, as I mentioned, these documents are hand-typed and some of them take the form of d M yy. I've tried multiple combinations of setlocale but no matter what I try, the language is always set to US English. I'm fairly sure setlocale is the key here, but I don't seem to be able to strike upon the right code. Tried these: au au-en en_AU australia aus Anything else I can try?   I'm trying to learn to rename files with the command line, and after browsing around a lot of pages I finally found a command that uppercases the first letter of a file, but the problem is that I want to understand the meaning of each command. The command is: for i in *; do new=`echo "$i" | sed -e 's/^./\U&/'`; mv "$i" "$new";done I understand the 'for' kinda... but not the 'echo' or '`' and especially the sed command. if someone has a little patience to explain the meaning of each thing that'd be awesome! • Creating VSTO Excel Template fails

  I have been trying for ages in all sorts of ways (short of ritual incantations and sacrifices) to get Visual Studio Team Edition 2008 to allow me to create Office 2003 solutions, whether those be templates or documents. No matter what I try, I'm always presented with an error which basically says "You've got the wrong version of Office installed. Try installing something compatible". I have the complete installation of Office 2003 Pro installed along with the Office 2003 Primary Interop Assemblies (which I put on after I installed Office) and then VS2008TE as already mentioned. There has to be some reason why this refuses to work, but I'm out of ideas. Help appreciated.

  Web application - C#, .Net, SQL 2k5. I recently used bulkinsert on an other application and I thought I would like to give it a try. I am going to receive a CSV file with 1000 rows, which will most likely add 500 000 (that is five hundred thousand) records in the database. I don't have any idea yet about this huge amount if it's going to work out well. I am afraid that it will time out. I didn't do any testing yet, but I am pretty sure it would time out eventually. Is there a way to make it not time out (I don't know ... split the bulkinsert into 1000 pieces :D) or I should try to do something like BCP, with a SQL job ...

• Unable to reverse seemingly simple rails migration - getting "altered_table.column may not be NULL"

  I have a table 'invoices' in my development database (sqlite3) populated with a small amount of test data. I wanted to add a column 'invoice_number' to it and set up a migration like so: class AddInvoiceNumberColumnToInvoices < ActiveRecord::Migration def self.up add_column :invoices, :invoice_number, :integer end def self.down remove_column :invoices, :invoice_number end end I ran rake db:migrate and it seemed to migrate just fine. However, when I tried to access this column through ActiveRecord it didn't seem to be there. I decided to undo this migration and try again (not sure what I was going to try but I thought I'd start by undoing it) with rake db:migrate VERSION='whatever_the_migration_before_this_one_was_called'. This failed with the error message == AddInvoiceNumberColumnToInvoices: reverting =============================== -- remove_column(:invoices, :invoice_number) rake aborted! An error has occurred, this and all later migrations canceled: altered_invoices.invoice_number may not be NULL I can't find any documentation of this error. Is anyone able to explain what I have done wrong, and more importantly how I can fix this?

• run windows command from bash with output to standard out?

  Folks, I'm using git tools such as git bisect run which need to call a command to build and test my project. My command to do is nant which is a windows program. Or a build.cmd script which calls nant. It's easy to get the bash to call the nant build to run. But the hard part is how to get the standard output written to a file? I even installed the Windows PowerShell to try running a command from bash. Again, it works but the standard output fill says "permission denied" when I try to read it while the build is going on.

• Converting raw bytes into audio sound

  In my application I inherit a javastreamingaudio class from the freeTTS package then bypass the write method which sends an array of bytes to the SourceDataLine for audio processing. Instead of writing to the data line, I write this and subsequent byte arrays into a buffer which I then bring into my class and try to process into sound. My application processes sound as arrays of floats so I convert to float and try to process but always get static sound back. I am sure this is the way to go but am missing something along the way. I know that sound is processed as frames and each frame is a group of bytes so in my application I have to process the bytes into frames somehow. Am I looking at this the right way?   Hello, Since I had a very slow scrolling tableView I'm now trying to catch up with the direct draw method, similiar to the Tweetie App sample or Apples TableViewSuite code. So right now I'm struggling to draw NSString with more than one line. I'm using the [NSString drawAtPoint: forWidth: withFont: linebreakMode:] method, and it "breaks" the line, but it doesn't show the second line, it just cuts the rest of the string off. Is this a normal behavior and what can be the solution to multiple lines?

Normal unsecure requests work fine and I can upgrade one time tokens to session tokens without any hassle. I want to be able to compare the store_inventory csv file with new_acquisitions. 1) If the item names match just update the quantity in store_inventory. 2) If new_acquisitions has a new item that does not exist in store_inventory, then add it to the store_inventory. • Using VRaptor3 with Tomcat UnpackWARs property setted to false

  Hi there, I have to deploy my web app to a tomcat container with the unpackWARs property defined to false. When I do that, although the application is successfully deployed, when I try to access my url I always got a 404 error. I just don't receive that error when I try to access a direct file like index.html for instance. But I can't do that, the VRaptor framework is responsible for routing my url to the jsp file. Does anyone know if I have do anything else? Thanx

• Got a malware on my hosting provider which infect JavaScript files .. how do I find the entry point?

  This morning some sites which are hosted on the server as me started triggering malware alerts and started to redirect traffic to external sites. I've found out that a line of packed javascript was added to many js files across the server. What the script does is pretty simple, but what I would like to know is if this malware is well known and how it infect servers and propagate.
