• Android ADP1 can't start after first restart [closed]

After I uninstalled Visual Studio 2010 beta 2 and installed Visual Studio 2010 RC, executing IISRESET gives the following error message: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\VCiisreset /stop Attempting stop... Stop attempt failed. The system cannot find the file specified. (2147942402, 80070002) Further information. Before bet2, the same computer also had beta1 installed. The OS is Windows 2008 Web Server Any clue here?

• Mapped drives not showing in first run of Windows Explorer

  We have a couple of users whose mapped drives don't always appear in Windows Explorer when they initially log in. "net use" shows the drives are mapped correctly and they can see them in File Open dialogs in other applications. However they don't appear in Windows Explorer. The current workaround we have is to kill Windows Explorer and then immediately start it again, then they do reliably appear. Any ideas?

• Can't log in using second domain controller when first DC is unreachable

  Hi, We're a small web development company. Our domain has two DCs: a main one (BEEHIVE, 192.168.3.20) in the datacenter and a second one (SPHERE2, 10.0.66.19) in the office. The office is connected to the datacenter via a VPN. We recently had a brief network outage in the office. During this outage, we weren't able to access the domain from our office machines. I had hoped that they would fail over to the DC in the office, but that didn't happen. So I'm trying to figure out why. I'm not an expert on Active Directory so maybe I'm missing something obvious. Both domain controllers are running a DNS server. Each office workstation is configured to use the datacenter DC as its primary DNS server, and the office DC as its secondary: DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.3.20 10.0.66.19 Both DNS servers are working, and both domain controllers are working (at least, I can connect to them both using AD Users + Computers).   My boss asked me to set up Google Apps for a client and basically I have done everything including setting up MX records in DirectAdmin and re-creating the email accounts in Google Apps. I also sent a few test emails to ensure that it actually works and it seems fine. But then I discovered this article talking about changing the SPF record for the domain. http://www.google.com/support/a/bin/answer.py?answer=178723 After reading the introduction I think it would be better for me to change the SPF record according to this article. So I logged in to the DirectAdmin and navigated to the DNS management, and then I found that there's already a TXT SPF record there: v=spf1 a mx a:spf.cabin.com.hk include:gmail.com -all And it looks like it's already including gmail.com, but according to the article it should be: _spf.google.com rather than: gmail.com I dare not to change it before I understand what this record actually means. What would you do with this record if you were me?

• How to rename database without first stopping SQL instance to flush connections

  Is there a way to force a database into single user mode so a script can be run to rename databases? I find I have to Restart the instance of SQL (to force off any connections from a web app, etc.) and then I can run this script: USE master go sp_dboption MDS, "single user", true go sp_dboption StagingMDS, "single user", true go sp_renamedb MDS, LastMonthMDS go sp_renamedb StagingMDS, MDS go sp_dboption LastMonthMDS, "single user", false go sp_dboption MDS, "single user", false go After this script runs, I can restart IIS for my web app and it can connect to the new production database. All the above works well and we've been doing this for years but now we've upgraded to SQL 2008 and the SQL2008 instance also hosts other databases that support other web apps. So, rather than using a Restart of the whole SQL instance to enable subsequent single-user mode on 2 databases, is there a less intrusive way of accomplishing this? Thanks.

• Removing demo of a program when it insists that the full version be removed first

  I have a program that i both recently installed the demo for, and just installed the full version of. When i try to uninstall the demo, it says that an existing version of the program was found at the full program's path, and must be removed before the installer can be launched. I just want to uninstall the demo; is there any way without removing the full version of the software? (if it matters, it's Sins of a Solar Empire, but i'm hoping it won't get closed as that's merely incidental)

• First web server questions

  Hi there, Just looking for some help/suggestions with this. I require my own server for an upcoming project that will be hosting users websites. I want to build a control panel the user can log into and modify their website which will be stored elsewhere on the server. This all seems easy enough, It's just managing domains and emails that confuse me. What should I look for to manage domain names and point them to the correct website and also what would be the best way to manage email accounts/set up new ones etc. I want to avoid cPanel/WHM if possible, I'm looking to control most things through the control panel I will be building. So any suggestions on this would be useful as well, as I will be wanting to add email accounts through php (Can be done using a shell I assume?). I will also be wanting to measure bandwidth used on the websites contained in each users directory, any suggestions on making this possible? I'm really looking for some suggestions on what software to use to set this up, any advice would be really helpful! Thanks, Graeme

• Connecting to a computer using Remote Desktop does not work first time

  Hi all, I'm having a weird sort of problem with Remote desktop and that too, only on one machine. If I boot up this machine, and then try to Remote desktop into it, it does not work.( I get the following error: The client could not connect to the remote computer. Remote connections might not be enabled or the computer might be too busy to accept new connections. It is also possible that network problems are preventing your connection. Please try connecting again later. If the problem continues to occur, contact your administrator. ) But if I physically log into it & then log out, and then try to Remote desktop into it, it works flawlessly. The problematic machine is Xp 64 Bit, but other systems with Xp 64 Bit work fine. Any Ideas on how to solve this?

• Batch Script to Trim lines in text to first 30 or 50 characters only

  I am now new to scripts but i find it really difficult understanding "for" command (especially with that tokens and delimiters etc) . Saying so, i think that for command can be used to do what i am doing. If its not and there is an easier way, ignore my ignorance :( Say i have multiple lines in a text file abc.txt with each line starting and ending with " (quotes) E.g. a file of 3 lines "hey what is going on @mike220. I am working on your car. Its engine is in very bad condition" "Because if you knew, you'd get shredded and do it with certainty" "@honey220 Do you know someone who has busted their ass on a diet only for results to come to a screeching halt after a few weeks" How can i trim each line, within the quotes, to a Fixed length say 30 or 50 or 100 characters (including spaces) I want to enter the number of character in batch and it can trim accordingly and produce a file def.txt with trimmed lines within quotes. Say i enter 50, results of above example should be "hey what is going on @mike220. • HDD not detected whenever first power on (detected at BIOS level)

  I am using Asus P8H61-M LX Motherboard with latest version of BIOS: 4401 One SATA-3 Western Digital Black Series 1.5TB is attached to SATA port 0 A Samsung 22x DVDRW SATA drive attached to SATA Port 1. ps/2 Logitech mouse and keyboard. CPU is i3 with DDR3 8Gb RAM. no other devices are installed. My problem is that when I turn on the computer, the WD HDD is not detected. ie cannot be booted. I have to press ctrl+alt+del in order to get it detected. I'd used the WD data lifeguard software to scan the HDD, the smart status is OK, the surface scan does not show any error at all. Where did I do wrong? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

  I'm running a webserver with a contact form which triggers a php script to sendmail the message to a local account on the server, and I want to be notified on my regular email account when I got new messages. I could have a notification per email or just send the emails directly to my account but that'd be too much: I just want a "you have new mail" notification sent to my email every time the inbox turns from 0 unread messages to 1. Google is burying me in sendmail documentation, and still can't find anything about it. Any ideas?

What I did: 1) created a dir testrun in /etc/sv 2) created a script run in /etc/sv/testrun/run, the script content: #! /bin/bash exec /root/FP/annotate-output python /root/FP/test.py | logger -t svtest 3) If I call directly /etc/sv/testrun/run it executes successfully 4) I run sv start testrun (or sv run testrun, sv restart testrun), all of them end up with the same error msg: fail: sv: unable to change to service directory: file does not exist Any ideas what am I doing wrong? • Running JBoss 6 with Runit / daemontools or other process supervision framework

  I'm tying to use runit to daemonize JBoss. I use the /opt/jboss-6.1.0.Final/bin/run.sh script to start the server. When I do so from the comandline, JBoss does not detach (which is what we want), and will also shut down when CTRL+C is pressed. In theory a perfect candidate to use runit on. Everything works fine except when I try to get runit to shut down JBoss. When I issue the command sv stop jboss nothing happens. Runit thinks the process is stopped but jboss continues to run normally. I'm not doing anything special with the run script. This is my runit run script: #!/bin/sh exec 2>&1 exec /opt/jboss-6.1.0.Final/bin/run.sh -c standard -b 0.0.0.0 Looking at the jboss_init_redhat.sh script, the start section does mention ./bin/run.sh but the stop section has the following text: JBOSS_CMD_STOP=${JBOSS_CMD_STOP:-"java -classpath $JBOSSCP org.jboss.Shutdown --shutdown"} Any ideas of what I could try?

• Partitioning Windows 8.1 in order to have data partition first and system partitions at HDD end

  How can I have recovery partition at the HDD end? My aim is to have data partition installed on fastest sectors of my hard drive, as I don't really care if restoring operations are slow... During Windows installation, when I create a partition, I get immediately created EFI and recovery ones just before the actual data partition. EFI position is good, I want my PC boot fast, but I want to move partitions I don't care about speed. I've also considered GParted, but I think I'm not able to use it :P

• EF4, self tracking, repository pattern, SQL Server 2008 AND SQL Server Compact

  Hi, I am creating a project using Entity Frameworks 4 and self tracking entities. I want to be able to either get the data from a sql server 2008 database or from sql server compact database (with the switch being in the config file). I am using the repository pattern and I will have the self tracking entities sitting in a separate assembly. Do I need two edmx files? If so, how do I generate only one set of STE's in the separate assembly? Also do I need to generate two context classes as well? I am unsure of the plumbing for all this. Can anyone help? Darren I forgot to add that the two databases will be identical and that the compact version is for offline usage.
