• Toshiba Laptop Problem - Black Screen on Startup [using Win Vista]

  Hi guys, can anyone help me on my problem? I only see black screen after the startup.. It just shows the logo and the status bar upon start, then it goes black screen with moveable cursor. I tried alt+ctrl+del, but it doesn't work. I pressed shift 5 times and it makes a sound. I already removed battery and restarted it, but still the same. I can go to safe mode and scanned thru there. Still, desktop won't show up. Don't know what else to check? Been searching the net for solutions. Please help? :(

  I have a flash application using callbacks to javascript functions (eg. when it receives some data over a socket, it'll call a js script which would change the content of a div according to that given data). Afaik, there is no actual mutual exclusion in javascript so I'm not sure if I can/need to simulate something like : callbackFunc() { lock(mutex1) foo unlock(mutex1) } ... someOtherFunc() { lock(mutex1) bar unlock(mutex1) } So, the question is, when are those callbacks called ? Are they simply queued to be executed right after the browser finishes its task or are they triggered randomly ?

  I want to create a browser based game and I have a huge problem, the game can be easily hacked. The problem is at a page where you can go to "work", I store in a file the work ending date and the amount of money what you will receive after finishing the work. There are 4 type of works. The problem is that I use ajax to send to a php file the necessary information. The URL looks like this x.php?date=....&pay=.... The javascript part of the page calculates the date and the pay but if you simply enter in your URL bar x.php?date=anynumber&pay=99999 you will receive that 99999 dollars. What should I do ? And sorry for my bad english :)

  Hi, I'm working on a pure css menu that consists of four levels Level 1 and 2 are a dropline menu in style Levels 3+ are dropdown menus When you hover over a level 1 menu item, the level 2 menu displays directly below menu item you are currently hovering over. However if there are lots of menu items on level 2 then the level 2 menu goes off the screen and you see a horizontal scroll bar. What I want to happen is that if the menu is going to go off the screen I want it to get pushed to the left. For example, if the menu was 300px long, but there was only 250px between the level 1 menu item and the edge of the page, then the level 2 menu should not be placed directly under the level 1 parent, instead it should be 50px to the left. I use a nested unordered list for the menu.

  We have a C++/CLI mixed mode assembly out of which we produce an XML file that we use for both, Sandcastle documentation and Intellisense. We use a tool which scans the assembly and create all entries for us, unfortunately I don't know how this tool works and it is unable to handle method signatures like: void foo([Out] long bar); The XML file is expected this parameter to be System.Int32!CompilerServices.IsLong@ but our tool just can't handle that. In other words, how do you scan an assembly to create the XML file needed for Intellisense?

  I'm creating a custom preloader for a Flex app and have noticed the following behavior: when loading, the progress bar goes to 100%, then down then back up, and so on until the app is finished loading. When I put a trace in the dowloadprogress listener, I see that while the app is loading, both bytesLoaded and bytesTotal increase, but not necessarily at the same time. • Possible Performance Considerations using Linq to SQL Repositories

  I have an ASP.NET MVC application that uses Linq to SQL repositories for all interactions with the database. To deal with data security, I do trimming to filter data to only those items to which the user has access. This occurs in several places: Data in list views Links in a menu bar A treeview on the left hand side containing links to content Role-based security A special security attribute, inheriting from AuthorizeAttribute, that implements content-based authorization on every controller method. Each of these places instantiates a repository, which opens a Linq to Sql DataContext and accesses the database. So, by my count, each request for a page access opens at least six separate Linq to SQL DataContexts. Should I be concerned about this from a performance perspective, and if so, what can be done to mitigate it?

  My .ocx contains two ActiveX controls and I use both of them on one page. When user comes to page he gets two install confirmations for the same binary. After the first installation and page reload he gets one control displayed and “the website wants to run the following add-on...” yellow bar with control’s run confirmation for the other. I have only two possible solutions: Adding my CLSID’s to IE’s pre-approved control list, but I guess I cannot do it in the case of Non-Admin installation. Besides I consider this way as unreliable. Use the third control-container for hosting all other controls. It seems to my too complicated. Actually I’m not sure it can be done. Controls are used from the WEB, so I cannot use any administrative tools for installation. Is it possible to do all installation actions with one step without twice installation or run confirmation? Are there any “Best practices” for my case?

  I cannot get the following route to fire when a url is requested from a script tag. If i drop the url into the address bar of the browser all is fine, but is not triggered from the javascript tag? Any ideas?

• How to prevent the copying of text from a textarea?

  I have an online typing software, which I'm currently working on. In the typing software, all is running good but I have come across the problem of dishonest users who might possibly type the text into the textarea, copy it, then reload the page (therefore resetting the timer) and pasting it in straightaway. So I was thinking along the lines of using something like evt.preventDefault(); when javascript detects the pressing of the ctrl / cmd button. But then again I realized that the user could go to the menu bar to press copy. So is there a cross-browser method to do both methods of disabling? • I can't use dashes in XPATH on iphone using libxml2

  I'm trying to parse HTML data using KissXML for iphone. I've noticed that I can't have dashes in the id() tag, otherwise it won't evaluate. For example, if I'm trying to get the element at I would do id("foo") However, if I try to get at element , and I try id("foo-bar") the libxml2 XPATH engine doesn't seem to return anything. It works using the XPATH check for firefox, though. Anyone run into this issue and know of a reason why it's happening or have a workaround (besides using the absolute XPATH path?)

• I can't seem to connecting any of my IBOutlets between IB and XCode.

  I created a new iPhone project using the built-in "tab bar" template. I put a few sliders, labels, textfields in the view. I added in needed code for: "IBOutlet, @property, @synthesize, and release" for the above UI objects. It saves and compiles without any errors or warnings. I try to hook-up my connections with control-drag, but don't see any of my IBOutlets appearing in the list. I can't seem to "connect" any outlets from IB to my code. (My IBActions all connect fine) What did I do wrong?

  I'm currently using a datagrid within a user control. The datagrid resizes based on the number of rows, and therefore goes off the webpage. I've tried wrapping the control around a ScrollViewer, but in order to have the scroll bar visible and working, I need to set the MaxHeight of the datagrid. The problem is that I don't know what the MaxHeight of the datagrid should be because it differs based on the size of the browser window appearing on the screen. Any suggestions on how to determine the correct size of the control?

  I'm using Visual Studio 2008 with Feature Pack 1. I have a typedef like this typedef std::tr1::tuple<std::string, std::string, int> tileInfo with a function like this const tileInfo& GetTile( int x, int y ) const. In the implementation file the function has the exact same signature (with the added class name qualifier) and I am getting a redefinition: different type modifiers error. It seems to be looking for an int& instead of a tileInfo& When I mouse over the type of the function in the header, i.e. tileInfo& it brings up a little bar saying static const int tileInfo. I think this may be the problem, but I'm not sure what to do. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Within that xib file, I have a table view and set it to the outlet of SettingsViewController class property myTableView. The problem is that in the main xib file, for the SettingsViewController navigation, there is one outlet myTableView. I am not sure if I have to set this to somewhere?   Hello, I have a windows form that has a simple menu and performs a simple operation, I want to be able to create another windows form with all the functionality of a menu bar, message pump etc.. as a separate thread so I can then share the results of the operation to the second window. I.E. 1) Form A opens Form B opens as a separate thread 2)Form A performs operation 3)Form A passes results via memory to Form B 4)Form B display results I'm confused as to how to go about it, the main app runs fine but i'm not sure how to add a second window if the first one already exists. I think that using CreateWindow will allow me to make another window but again i'm not sure how to access the message pump so I can respond to certain events like WM_CREATE on the second window. I hope it makes sense. Thanks!
