    Hi all, im developing a java swing app and i would use hibernate for persistance. Im totally new in jpa, hibernate and ORM in general. Im follow this tutorial, its easy but the problem is the java class that descrive a table in db are made from the table with reverse enginering. I want do the opposite process: i want make db table from the java class. The question is, how can i do this with netbeans? There are some tutorial?

  • Django 1.2 crash course needed

    I know Python but I've never used Django. What do I need to know about Django 1.2 to port my typical PHP CRUD web application in one weekend? (Yes I've read Joel Spolsky's Netscape article :-)) I'm reading this tutorial right now and it's excellent. I'm already playing around with inspectdb to generate my models from the existing schema. I'm planning to use the following features of Django this weekend: Fragment caching Static asset versioning (for far future expires) Schema migrations (or whatever they're called in Django) Auto-admin (and customize it later) The test framework ...other stuff I probably don't know about yet I'm familiar with all these concepts in other languages/frameworks, except for the ORM which I've never used. I know SQL pretty well though. Any links, sage bits of advice, gotchas, stuff not mentioned in the (excellent) tutorial/docs, or stuff that is mentioned but warrants repeating == very welcome.     I have a need to wrap an existing C++ library for use in Python. After reading through this answer on choosing an appropriate method to wrap C++ for use in Python, I decided to go with Py++. I walked through the tutorial for Py++, using the tutorial files, and I got the expected output in generated.cpp, but I haven't figured out what to do in order to actually use the generated code as an extension I can import in Python. I'm sure I have to compile the code, now, but with what? Am I supposed to use bjam?

  • how to use expressons as function parameters in powershell

    This is a very simple task in every language I have ever used, but I can't seem to figure it out in PowerShell. An example of what I'm talking about in C: abs(x + y) The expression x + y is evaluated, and the result passed to abs as the parameter... how do I do that in PowerShell? The only way I have figured out so far is to create a temporary variable to store the result of the expression, and pass that. PowerShell seems to have very strange grammar and parsing rules that are constantly catching me by surprise, just like this situation. Does anyone know of documentation or a tutorial that explains the basic underlying theory of the language? I can't believe these are all special cases, there must be some rhyme or reason that no tutorial I have yet read explains. And yes, I've read this question, and all of those tutorials are awful. I've pretty much been relegated to learning from existing code.

  • How to add "make install" target to simple Eclipse C project

    I have a simple Eclipse C project. Is there a way to add a "make install" target to the generated makefile? I can't seem to find the right search keywords to find any useful information in the doc or by googling (i.e. there is too much noise and no signal.) I tried creating a simple project using the autotools plug-in but without being able to find any useful doc or tutorial that starts from scratch with a single C source file, I couldn't even get the project to build. Edit: I'll take an answer based on using the autotools plug-in if I can get my project to build. I don't see how to add an include dir (-I) a link dir (-L) or additional link libs to a new Hello World autotools C project. Is there any simple autotools plug-in tutorial that covers this?

    I have just installed a network simulator program called ns-2 and I am trying to familiarize myself with it by going through the tutorial by Marc Greis. When I get to the stage where I'm messing around with C++ source files and related program C++ source files as stated in http://www.isi.edu/nsnam/ns/tutorial/index.html, I don't know what to do as there are enough inconsistencies between the version of ns-2 that I downloaded (which is the latest stable build) and the guide. What would your recommendations in this case, as I don't know what to do with it as a newbie? Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Having trouble with post-commit hook

    I am following this tutorial that is like the hello world for post-commit I am using unbuntu 10.04. I installed svnnotify and ran $ which svnnotify which output: /usr/bin/svnnotify so I changed the path in the turorial from /usr/local/bin/svnnotify to /usr/bin/svnnotify I also tried changing the line: #!/bin/sh to #!/bin/bash since bash is the login shell in ubuntu 10.04. I tried to run it the way the tutorial originally had it, with my changes, and combinations of the two. Everytime the commit is successful but I get Warning: post-commit hook failed (exit code 1) with no output. The original way had output not found I am very new to linux and shell scripting and have exhausted everything I can think of. What am I doing wrong?

    I've never programmed in java or eclipse before, although I have used c# and visual studio. I'm trying to get started with java development, and develop 2d games, but I can't get the project to run.   • WCF for the totally clueless

    I've been hearing about WCF for a couple of years now, and I still don't get it. I understand that it's supposed to be a replacement for web services, remoting, MSMQ, and a few other things. The trouble is, every tutorial I find assumes that I've done one of those things, and it tends to follow the line of "Here are the differences; you know the rest." But I don't know the rest! So: Do you know of any tutorial articles, books, etc. that assume that the reader knows C# or VB .NET, but nothing about web services, MSMQ, remoting, and all those other technologies that WCF replaces?

    Do you know any book, blog, tutorial which explains in a detailed way the use of some open source projects? Maybe you have written such a tutorial, example of open source libraries, and your final product is great for a beginner to understand it. I'm in the learning stage of OOP and I really need to learn by examples. I'll like to find some text which explains the use of some open source software/libraries and the good practices. Beign honestly I feel scared to use the open source libraries as I wish/think at this moment. I feel like as I still write procedural code and not OOP. Do you know such tutorials, links, blogs, stories, pages? PS: I know C and PHP. I can't say that I know C++ yet, and that's why I need your help.

  • XML Schema Header & Namespace Config

    Migrating from DTD to XSD and for some reason the transition is a bumpy one. I understand how to define the schema once I'm inside the <xs:schema> root tag, but getting past the header & namespace declaration stuff is proving to be especially confusing for me. I have been trying to follow the well-laid out tutorial on W3S but even that tutorial seems to assume a lot of knowledge up front. I guess what I'm looking for is a King's English explanation of which attributes do what, where they go, and why: xmlns xmlns:xs xmlns:xsi targetNamespace xsi:schemaLocation And in some cases I see different variations of these elements/attributes, such as xsi which seems to have two different notations like xsi:schemaLocation="..." and xs:import schemaLocation="...". I guess between all these slight variations I can't seem to make heads or tails of what each of these does. Thanks in advance for bringing any clarity to this confusion!

    I'm a PHP Developer and Web Designer. In my work a partner asked me if I could set up a Google Cloud Messaging server. I read the documentation but couldn't find a clear tutorial to set up this server. I got no knowleadge about Java so it makes my job harder. I could "compile" a war file using ant as GCM Demo Tutorial says. But I can't deploy it to my AppEngine server to try it out (It's my first time using AppEngine too).     Only a few people recommended to use Sphinx at the beginning of the year. Sphinx has developed rather fast recently. I noted today that Sage has made a change from direct editing with LaTex to Sphinx. This is evident in William Stein's answer on 2nd April about Sage's tutorial The tutorial is not a latex document anymore. It's an entirely different Sphinx document that can output pdf. It suggests me that Sphinx may be at a level such that it is suitable for me. Is Sphinx better than LaTex in writing manuals/books?

    I know that they are used to store data, but I have a difficult time understanding exactly how to use them in a program. In addition, I found this site with a tetris clone tutorial (the actual tutorial is missing). It uses arrays, but I can't really make sense of how it works. Here's an example of the code - public int[, ,] TShape = new int[4, 4, 2] { {{1, 0}, {0, 1}, {1, 1}, {2, 1}}, {{1, 0}, {0, 1}, {1, 1}, {1, 2}}, {{0, 0}, {1, 0}, {2, 0}, {1, 1}}, {{0, 0}, {0, 1}, {1, 1}, {0, 2}}}; Could it be that I'm looking too hard into this, or perhaps there's something I'm not grasping about it?

    Hi, What I want to do is index some documents in Solr and know how it works. I have installed Solr and Tomcat and can see Solr Admin UI at localhost:8080/ solr/ admin/ Now, I want to add some documents to the index, may I know how to proceed further? I find very less documentation on Internet regarding this. In the tutorial http://lucene.apache.org/solr/tutorial.html#Indexing+Data they asked to run java -jar post.jar solr.xml monitor.xml command but after running that I get connection refused error as it is jetty. After installing jetty I tried telnet: I get "Connection refused" error I am not able to understand what the problem is.

  • Store form values for later submission

    I have a Rails app that lets users create tutorials and quizzes. There are many users taking the quizzes and many quizzes in a tutorial. My client wants the quiz results to persist when a student navigates away from the quiz. So the use case would be: User starts to take quiz User answers some of the questions User navigates away from quiz to check a fact in the tutorial User goes back to quiz and their answers are still there User finishes quiz and submits Now this would be pretty easy to do if I enforced a "Save" submit so that the answers could be stored in a session or whatever, but the client (and I agree) thinks people will not remember to save before navigating away. Looking for advice on how to approach this. I'm thinking an observer and cookies.

    I have a Java Swing application client that I want to use to consume certain webservices, but I want to make it as painless as possible to code (because really all I want is the info). I do understand that whatever solution is used will need to stub the POJO's too. If you'd like to give a demo, that would be great, or if you can point to a tutorial that would also be really appreciated. I did look at Axis, including the more recent Axis2, but it's a bit more complex than I was hoping (aka. I have to learn something).   • Ext.app.application object is erased after initialization

    I am trying to organize an existing extjs code in a more standard order (extjs wise). extjs version: extjs-4.0.2a. I've worked through the Extjs tutorial example and every thing went well. When I started working on the company's code I've notice there is no use of the application object there for I've added the Ext.application({...}); call. Ext.application({ name: 'FOO', appFolder: 'appFolderName', launch: function() { console.log('application was created'); } }); Upon loading the page I see the console.log output that is included in the "launch" function property - meaning the application object is created but when I look for it ("FOO" object) under the "window" object it is not there. Compering to the tutorial code the application object exist as a property of window. I encounter a few loading problems but I'm guessing the source of it all is this issue. What am I doing wrong? thanks.

  • Getting search results from Twitter in php

    I'm attempting to put together a little mashup with some twitter APIs. However, the whole area is new to me (I'm more of an embedded developer dabbling). And frustratingly, every tutorial I am trying in Php is either out of date, not doing what it claims to do, it or is broken. Essentially, I just want a nice bit of example code - say, an HTML file, a connection.js for the JQuery magic, and a php file - 'getsearch' which contains the relevant Curl calls to the API to just return the results for a given search term. Followed the tutorial to the letter at http://www.reynoldsftw.com/2009/02/using-jquery-php-ajax-with-the-twitter-api/ and even downloaded the guy's code and chucked it on my webserver, but it just seems to sit there. I'm relatively competent at php and html, but it's the Curl and the JQuery side of things which is new to me, and would appreciate any thoughts, links, or code suggestions. I've attempted reading the API - but even that seems sparse - and several links are broken to their own tutorials, so that's put me off a bit for now.
