  • Self-signed ceritificates for many users/browsers/sites

    Here is my problem - I have a lot of users using different browsers accessing many internal web sites using https. I can create my own Certificate Authority, than create a certificate for each server and after that have all the users import it. Obviously, it cannot work in reality - there are too many users and too many sites, and some sites will be added in the future. I'm looking for a way to automate this. Is there a way to create a certificate so that all major browsers (IE, FF, Opera, Chrome and Safari) would trust it for all servers ? If so, what is the best way to install it automatically in all major browsers ?

  • A feeling that I'm not that good developer

    Hi, Im having a strange feeling, but let me first introduce myself as a software developer. I started to program when I was still a kid, I had about 10 or 11 years. I really enjoy my work and never get bored from it. It's amazing how somebody could be paid for what he really likes to do and would be doing it anyway even for free. WHen I first started to program, I was feeling proud of what I was doing, each application I built was for me a success and after 2-3 year I had a feeling that I'm a coding guru. It was a nice feeling ;-) But the more I was in the field, the more types of software I started to develop I was starting to have a feeling that I'm completely wrong in that I'm guru. I felt that I'm not even a mediocre developer. Each new field I start to work on is giving me this feeling. Like when I once developed a device driver for a client, I saw how much I need to learn about device drivers. When I developed a video filter for an application, I saw how much do I still need to learn about DirectShow, Color Spaces, and all the theory behind that. The worst thing was when I started to learn algorithms. It was several years ago. I knew then the basic structures and algorithms like the sorting, some types of trees, some hashtables, strings etc.. and when I really wanted to learn a group of structures I learned about 5-6 new types and saw that in fact even this small group has several hundred subtypes of structures. It's depressing how little time people have in their lives to learn all this stuff. I'm now a software developer with about 10 years of experience and I still feel that I'm not a proficient developer when I think about things that others do in the industry. Is this normal what I'm experiencing or is it a sign of a destructive excessive ambition? Thanks in advance for any comments.

  • Is OpenGL required for my iPhone game?

    On an iPhone: If I am writing a game that has multiple levels, with multiple animations (image sequences), jpg and png (transparent), some full screen and some not, some looped and some played once only. What is the best way of doing it? Each level might have up to 10MB of images. Add on to this music, and video (cut scenes). All 2D graphics, no 3D models. Is OpenGL required? Or can this be achieved with Quartz or Core Animation?

    Hi guys, I want to check our google postions for several keywords every day and make a note in a spreadseet. At the moment, we have a student doing it but it's a rubbish job and it doesn't seem fair on them! Are there any tools available to automate this process? I have tried rankchecker by seobook.com, but although that should be exactly what im looking for when i set scheduled tasks in that, it doesnt work. Any tips would be appreciated, thanks! peter EDIT: Liam has suggested a Python script to do this, which unfortunately isnt something I'm very familiar with! If anyone knows of a good tutorial or something to help us with this, that would be brilliant. Update: Found a php script at seoscript.net which looks like a step in the right direction. But I cant get it to work! I get this error. Anyone more knowledgabe than me know how to fix that? I have PEAR installed. thanks again, Peter

  • Is Webhooks a style/pattern or a specification?

    I've been reading about Webhooks and I'm trying to determine if it's a specification vs a style/pattern. By "specification" I mean that the implementation details, e.g. headers, payload and so on are well defined. By "style" or "pattern" I mean in the sense that REST is a style (as opposed to a spec) or a pattern which describes usage but doesn't define implementation details. From what I see, Webhooks is a style/pattern. That the event(s) which triggers the http callbacks are generated however the developer wants, and that the http callbacks have no specific implementation requirements except to be an http post. Is this correct?

    I'm getting ready to start a C# web application project and just wanted some opinions regarding pulling data from a database. As far as I can tell, I can either use C# code to access the database from the code behind (i.e. LINQ) of my web app or I can call a stored procedure that will collect all the data and then read it with a few lines of code in my code behind. I'm curious to know which of these two approaches, or any other approach, would be the most efficient, elegant, future proof and easiest to test.

  • Doing coding in Linux through a virtual machine on Windows VS partitioning

    I already have experience with setting up virtual machines, running them and other minor tasks. Im a gamer, so I wont get rid of windows (for now at least...) but I do want to be a great programmer and to be involved with the Open-Source community. Id like to know if its a good idea to do my programming in linux through a virtual machine, vs giving it a partitioned section of the HDD. Id like to know about performance pros and cons and functionality. All responses are appreciated, thanks in advance. The type of programming I intend to dive into : Android Dev, Web Dev, Desktop Dev...More Android and Web right now though. So im looking at C#,C,C++,Java,PHP,HTML,MySQL...Off the top of the dome. I do web designing as well, so dreamweaver is added as an "essential". But im sure I can do dreamweaver files and upload them to the server after programming in Linux...Right? And any info on IDE's in Linux for the above mentioned are appreciated, but i would prefer going the coding route and understanding the essence of whats happening "under the covers" Thanks to all for reading, I appreciate it.     I would like to build a Connect 4 engine which works using an artificial neural network - just because I'm fascinated by ANNs. I'be created the following draft of the ANN structure. Would it work? And are these connections right (even the cross ones)? Could you help me to draft up an UML class diagram for this ANN? I want to give the board representation to the ANN as its input. And the output should be the move to chose. The learning should later be done using backpropagation and the sigmoid function should be applied. The engine will play against human players. And depending on the result of the game, the weights should be adjusted then.

  • Keeping updated with the latest technologies.

    I am a software developer and I have been programming since the past six years. I simply love the mental challenge involved in trying to come up with solutions to hard problems, reading up programming literature, blogs by prominent developers and so on. I work on Microsoft platform and I have trouble keeping up with the pace at which various frameworks are rolled out. Remoting,WCF,ASP.NET,ASP.NET MVC, LINQ, WPF, WWF, OSLO, ADO.NET data services, DSL tools etc etc. Even understanding all these frameworks at an abstract level and see how they are all tied up with MS vision itself is a major hurdle. Now when you add other non microsoft technologies, programming languages etc to the equation, I wonder how do people manage? Given that there are only 24 hours in a day, how does one keep himself updated about so many technology changes that happen everyday? My question is , is it even worth doing that? The thing is, I am also interested in other fields such as literature, science. I try my best to at least gain a superficial understanding of what is happening in other fields of my interest and don't want to give up on that :)
