  • 3d / 2.5d game library for iphone and pc

    I'm trying to make a 2d shooter game with 3d background. The player and enemies are essentially just quads with textures. The background will be simple 3d polygons with textures and some fog and light. Therefore, I don't need a really powerful 3d library. I tried Unity3D and Torque2D, but I don't like to use their GUI editors. I prefer to work with code. So, is there a cross platform (mainly windows and iPhone) 3d / 2.5d game library, commercial or open source? I assume it will be only limited to c, c++, and object-c due to apple's new ToS.

  • Android: How to invalidate multiple parts of screen

    I need to be able to selectively invalidate multiple (about 20) rectangles on the screen for performance reasons, so tried the following: Vector<Rect> myRects = new Vector<Rect>(); // ... add some Rects to myRects for (Rect r : myRects) { invalidate(r); } However this seems to invalidates a union of all the Rect's, forming one large rectangle which covers all of small ones I'm trying to invalidate. How can one invalidate multiple areas on the screen, and only those areas?

    I have the following HTML code: <style type="text/css"> .submitbutton{margin-left:-2px} </style> ... <form> ... <input class=submitbutton type=submit value="Create Listings" /> </form> In Firefox, the input button has more padding than in Chrome. Any ideas why? UPDATE: If you're wondering why I have the negative margin - it's because between the input field and the input button - there is too much space.

  • C++: Platform independent game lib?

    Hi, I want to write a serious 2D game, and it would be nice if I have a version for Linux and one for Windows (and eventually OSX). Java is fantastic because it is platform independent. But Java is too slow to write a serious game. So, I thought to write it in C++. But C++ isn't very cross-platform friendly. I can find game libraries for Windows and libraries for Linux, but I'm searching one that I can use for both, by recompiling the source on a Windows platform and on a Linux platform. Are there engines for this or is this idea irrelevant? Isn't it that easy (recompiling)? Any advice and information about C++ libraries would be very very very appreciated!

    Hi everybody, I have a site that features some pages which do not require any post-back functionality. They simply display static HTML and don't even have any associated code. However, since the Master Page has a <form runat="server"> tag which wraps all ContentPlaceHolders, the resulting HTML always contains the ViewState field, i.e: <input type="hidden" id="__VIEWSTATE" value="/wEPDwUKMjEwNDQyMTMxM2Rk0XhpfvawD3g+fsmZqmeRoPnb9kI=" /> I realize, that when decrypted, this string corresponds to the <form> tag which I cannot remove. However, I would still like to remove the ViewState field for pages that only display static HTML. Is it possible?

I had heard that Adobe's FLEX was starting to become more in-demand, and have seen it increasingly on job postings. Has anyone else been successful (career wise) in learning FLEX?   • Integrate OpenId into an existing site

    I have a working web application which already has a login and registration system. I'm looking for some advice on how to do it. Until now, users have a username, an email, a password and some optional fields. The registrartion is the usual process with email confirmation. Now I'd like to allow users to use OpenId. So I have added an openid field to the table. There are two different login forms, and users which are already registered can add their openid info and use either login form. The problem is with new users who come on the site for the first time and try to login with OpenId. I create a new user for them, and I don't need a password, but still I need at least a username, which is used on the site (I'm not sure if the email is needed). So my problems are: 1) How do I manage validation? Some fields are required for some users, (e.g. a password) but not for some others. I mean, I can do this, but it immediately gets messy. 2) Should I ask for a username and email on the first OpenId login? On the one hand I'd say yes, but I fear this vanishes the advantages of using OpenId, that is, not having to provide details. 3) I could get the details via SReg or AttributeExchange, but most providers have a bad support for those. For instance my Gmail OpenId account does not tell the email (!). Is there some place to learn more about the current support for these extensions?

  • DotNetNuke - Module settings disapear on new user control.

    Hi, I have a DNN module which renders a user control (view.ascx) All is ok ( I am logged in ) and I get the DNN settings menu. however when I add another control and load it like so: string url = Globals.NavigateURL(PortalSettings.ActiveTab.TabID, "View_Details", "mid=" + ModuleId.ToString()); Response.Redirect(url); I lose the settings link when the new control loads. Any ideas? Is there a property somewhere to turn on settings for the loaded user control?

  • jQuery slideDown() Makes Everything in Wrapper Shift

    Hello everyone, I am currently creating a simple menu where there are several names of services and a user can click on one and jQuery will show it's corresponding paragraph describing it below it. My jQuery code is fine and does exactly what I want, however, I have one bug I have yet to iron out. Whenever I click one of these headings and it's description displays, everything in the wrapper for the page shifts to the left about 7 pixels in Firefox, it does the same thing is Google Chrome however I have not measured the amout but I am sure it is irrelevant. Anyways, I am using the slideToggle() command to show the hidden parragraph. I assume this is occuring because when the slideDown occurs it is somehow changing the width of everything and the "margin: 0 auto;" setting for the wrapper rule in my css is compensating for this change. Does anyone have any way I can remedy this problem? I have tried several other fixes I've found around the internet but to no avail.     I'm generating your typical Web 2.0 HTML page with PHP: it contains a lot of <script> tags and javascript code that will substantially change the DOM after the load event. Is there a way to get the final HTML code directly from PHP, without opening the page with any browser? For example, let's say the HTML for the page is (it's just an example): <html> <head> <script>...the jquery library code...</script> <script>$(document).ready(function() { $("body").append("<p>Hi!</p>");</script> </head> <body> </body> </html> This HTML is saved in the $html PHP variable. Now, I want to pass that variable to some function that will return $result = <html>....<body><p>Hi!</p></body></html>. Is this possible?

  • How to get started with embedded systems in the aircraft or submarine industries?

    Hi, Not 100% sure how to frame this question but here goes... I currently work as a Rails developer but want to work on more substancial / "meaty" projects and have always been very interested in embedded systems, especially systems that run on aircraft and especially submarines.....I know strange combination. I have been doing some searching & found lockheed martin produces a lot of underwater systems for various navys around the world e.g. http://www.naval-technology.com/projects/nssn/ However, there is very little information about what software is used within these systems, what OS's they use or anything else "technical", presume there is a lot of C / C++ involved but that is just a guess... so its hard to know where to even begin learning what is required to potential work in these areas. Just wondering if anyone has any experiance working with or more information about embeddeed systems in either the airline (onboard flight systems) or especially submarine systems? Thanks!
