• Still don't understand file upload-folder permissions

  I have checked out articles and tutorials. I don't know what to do about the security of my picture upload-folder. It is pictures for classifieds which should be uploaded to the folder. This is what I want: Anybody may upload images to the folder. The images will be moved to another folder, by another php-code later on (automatic). Only I may manually remove them, as well as another php file on the server which automatically empties the folder after x-days. What should I do here? The images are uploaded via a php-upload script. This script checks to see if the extension of the file is actually a valid image-file. When I try this: chmod 755 images the images wont be uploaded. But like this it works: chmod 777 images But 777 is a security risk right? Please give me detailed information... The Q is, what to do to solve this problem, not info about what permissions there are etc etc... Thanks If you need more info let me know...

• How to justify using a scripting language as part of a project

  I have a specific project in which I want to use either a scripting language + C, or as an alternative a 100% Java solution. The program adapts a legacy system for use with other moderns systems. Basically, I have few choices as to what language I can use. I have C/C++, Java 1.4, and I have also compiled the Lua for this environment. The program does 'screen scraping' and has to deal with alot of strings. That part of the code is highly variable. Most of the developers at my company use C, so - my original design was to write some portions in C, and use Lua for the part that dealt with strings and changed freqently. I was told 'You have to justify your use of the scripting language.' So i reworked my design using 100% Java, and was told - Java wont have enough performance. You should do the whole thing in C. I'm not controlling lasers or doing image processing - just some screen scraping. I still have to provide justification for using anything but C - so what justification can I provide?

• PHP 'smart' search engine to search Mysql tables advice

  I am creating a search engine for my php based website. I need to search a mysql table. Thing is, the search engine must be pretty 'smart', so that users can easily find their items (it's a classifieds website). I have currently set up a FULLTEXT search with this piece of code: MATCH (headline) AGAINST ($querystring) But this isn't enough... For instance, lets say the field headline contains something like Bmw 330ci. If I search for 330, I wont get any results. The ending ('ci') is just one of many endings in car models which must be taken into account when searching the table. Or what if the headline field is bmw330? Also no results, because it only matches full words. Or also, what if the headline is bmw 330, and I search for bmw 520, still with FULLTEXT I will get the bmw 330 as a result, even though I searched for bmw 520... Not good! How should I solve this problem?

• Release edit in QTableWidget Cell

  Basically I am trying to give the enter key the same functionality as the return key has when editing a cell in a qtablewidget. If editing a cell and enter is pressed I want it to jump out of editing that cell just like return does. It feels like I've literally tried everything. I've even tried passing a return press event to qcoreapplication. It seems like if your editing a cell and you press a key to trigger an action it wont happen. That seems to be what the problem is and I'm not sure how to get around that. I've been setting up all of my keyboard shortcuts for this program as actions because it seems easier to set up. Is there another way to do this that would allow the key event to happen when editing a cell? Can anyone help out with this? Thank you in advance. Tried this. • Programming an IPTV application- Client/Server

  I am part of a team which has been given a task to deploy an IPTV solution for a company. The system has been architect-ed like this. There is Video capture card , which receives satellite signals from a satellite receiver. This video capture card is part of a windows 7 machine. The signals need to be trans coded here and passed to a streaming server which will be received by end users. The end users will be desktop users having a C#.NET application installed to view the channels. I am confused at the choice of server software as I have multiple choices - Windows Media Server, VideoLan (VLC project), or Flash Media Server, it also supports MPEG-2 HD. My main aim to be able to stream MPEG-2 channels with HD quality and encrypt the channels at the server end so that the streams can be protected. I know reversing is possible but it wont be easy as for every naive user with wireshark snooping my streams. If any of you here has ever done such an implementation please do suggest me the best technologies I should go for. Iam open to C#,C++ and other similar languages. Any help shall be deeply appreciated. edit: End Users shall be part of Internet and not necessarily a lan, reason for this question is internet doesn't support multicast like Lan, so I need some suggestions.

• Android: Help with tabs view

  So I'm trying to build a tabs view for an Android app, and for some reason I get a force close every time I try to run it on the emulator. When I run the examples, everything shows fine, so I went as far as to just about copy most of the layout from the examples(a mix of Tabs2.java and Tabs3.java), but for some reason it still wont run, any ideas? Here is my code(List1.class is a copy from the examples for testing purposes).   Hello, I am using mvc and jQuery and I am trying to display someone's profile with some additional institutions that the person belongs to.   Okay, so I've done this before, and it worked. I am trying to echo out specific rows on my database in a table. • Problem when use compiled .A with simulator mode

  Hi all, i have a lib .a that run only in device mode. My sdk vers is 4.2 with xcode 3.2.x. In simulator, compile correctle with no warning and no errors, but in run mode (simulator) it crash with this error: Detected an attempt to call a symbol in system libraries that is not present on the iPhone: strtod$UNIX2003 called from function pj_init in image MyAPP. If you are encountering this problem running a simulator binary within gdb, make sure you 'set start-with-shell off' first Program received signal: “SIGABRT”. I try to clean, rebuild and set "set start-with-shell off" from terminal in this way: cd ~ echo '' >> .gdbinit echo 'set start-with-shell 0' >> .gdbinit Restarted all, but nothing. The problem don't wont to resolve! Is there any tag or property that i forgotted to set in the options? In other linker flag is there only "-ObjC". • Disabling repeating keyboard down event in as3

• File.Replace throwing IOException

  I have an app that can make modify images. In some cases, this makes the filesize smaller, in some cases bigger. The program doesn't have an option to "not replace the file if result has a bigger filesize". So I wrote a little C# app to try and solve this. Instead of overwriting the files, I make the app write the result to a folder under the current one and name that folder Test. The C# app I wrote compares grabs the contents of both folders and puts the full path to the file(s) in two List objects. I then compare and replace. The replacing isn't working however. I get the following IOException: Unable to remove the file to be replaced The location is on an external hard-drive, on which I have full rights. Now, I know I can just do File.Delete and File.Move in that order, but this exception has gotten me interested in why this particular setup wont work.   I was wondering how could I improve the performance of the following code: public class MyObject { public int Year { get; set; } } //In my case I have 30000 IEnumerable<MyObject> data = MethodThatReturnsManyMyObjects(); var groupedByYear = data.GroupBy(x => x.Year); //Here is the where it takes around 5 seconds foreach (var group in groupedByYear) //do something here. The idea is to get a set of objects with unique year values. In my scenario there are only 6 years included in the 30000 items in the list so the foreach loop will be executed 6 times only. So we have many items needing to be grouped in a few groups. Using the .Distinct() with an explicit IEqualityComparer would be an alternative but somehow I feel that it wont make any difference. I can understand if 30000 items is too much and that i should be happy with the 5 seconds I get, but I was wondering if the above can be imporved performance wise. Thanks.

• Canvas Check before submission

  I have a page where a user can draw on the canvas and save the image to a file on the server. The canvas has a default black background. Is there a way to check if the user has drawn anything on the canvas before submitting the data URL representation of the image of a canvas with the toDataURL() function? So if the user doesn't draw anything on the canvas(it will be a blank canvas with a black background), the image wont be created on the server. Should I loop through each and every pixel of the canvas to determine this?   Hi I am quite new to Objective C for the iPhone, so I hope you wont kill me for asking a simple question. I have made an App that works fine, except that Instruments reports memory leaks from the class below. I use it to store settings from one class and then retrieve them from another class. These settings are stored on a file so they can be retrieved every time the App is ran. What can I do do release the "setting" and is there anything that can be done to call (use) the class in a smarter way? • Linking how PHP/HTML

  Hello. Alright so im done doing pages with frames, and know i splitted up my design to top.php and bottom.php. In top.php it's linking to style.css and ajax_framework.js and such.. Now this works great until i tried to include top.php & bottom.php in videos/index.php (another dirr), i did like this: include "../top.php"; <-- and the originally index.php --> include "../bottom.php"; Now when i enter the site, it wont load style.css, probably because it thinks that style.css needs to be in videos/ directory, same goes with ajax_framework.js that are both files are on the parent ../ directory. Now what do i do? Some method or technique to solve this in a good way? So i dont have to copy style.css and ajax_framework.js into every directory i have, because then later if i want to change something i would need to change in all directories, which would be my last thing i want to do.. hope you got some nice techniques thank you

• iPhone inputting NSUserDefaults into a UITextField

  I am writing a program where I where the first time a user runs it - they will have to fill out about 10 different UITextFields. I am trying to save the fields so that on subsequent runs of the program that whatever they previously put will already be displayed in those UITextFields so the wont have to re-input it in - unless they want to edit something in which case they still have that option. I think that I have figured out a good way to save the strings using NSUserDefaults but now I am trying to figure out how to have those fields populate a UITextField - it doesnt seem as easy as if they were UILabels. This is the route I am attempting: // in the viewDidLoad portion. NSUserDefaults *userData = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; //Hooks. NSString *placeHolderName = [userData stringForKey:@"name"]; txtName.text = @"%@", placeHolderName; When I do this, it simply displays the '%@' in the textfields. I want whatever variable being held by placeHolderName to be automatically put into that UITextField. Is this possible?

• Cassandra instead of MySQL for social networking app

  I am in the middle of building a new app which will have very similar features to Facebook and although obviously it wont ever have to deal with the likes of 400,000,000 million users it will still be used by a substantial user base and most of them will demand it run very very quickly. I have extensive experience with MySQL but a social app offers complexities which MySQL is not well suited too. I know Facebook, Twitter etc have moved towards Cassandra for a lot of their data but I am not sure how far to go with it. For example would you store such things as user data - username, passwords, addresses etc in Cassandra? Would you store e-mails, comments, status updates etc in Cassandra? I have also read alot that something like neo4j is much better for representing the friend relationships used by social apps as it is a graph database. I am only just starting down the NoSQL route so any guidance is greatly appreciated. Would anyone be able to advise me on this? I hope I am not being too general!

  I am attempting to clone an object in Javascript. I have made my own 'class' that has prototype functions. My Problem: When I clone an object, the clone cant access/call any prototype functions. • c programming malloc question

  Hello guys, Just got query regarding c malloc() function. I am read()ing x number of bytes from a file to get lenght of filename, like ' read(file, &namelen, sizeof(unsigned char)); ' . The variable namelen is a type unsigned char and was written into file as that type (1 byte). Now namelen has the lenght of filename ie namelen=8 if file name was 'data.txt', plus extra /0 at end, that working fine. Now I have a structure recording file info, ie filename, filelenght, content size etc. struct fileinfo { char *name; ...... other variable like size etc }; struct fileinfo *files; Question: I want to make that files.name variable the size of namelen ie 8 so I can successfully write the filename into it, like ' files[i].name = malloc(namelen) ' However, I dont want it to be malloc(sizeof(namelen)) as that would make it file.name[1] as the size of its type unsigned char. I want it to be the value thats stored inside variable &namelen ie 8 so file.name[8] so data.txt can be read() from file as 8 bytes and written straight into file.name[8? Is there a way to do this my current code is this and returns 4 not 8 files[i].name = malloc(namelen); //strlen(files[i].name) - returns 4 //perhaps something like malloc(sizeof(&namelen)) but does not work Thanks for any suggestions Have tried suggested suggestions guys, but I now get a segmentation fault error using: printf("\nsizeofnamelen=%x\n",namelen); //gives 8 for data.txt files[i].name = malloc(namelen + 1); read(file, &files[i].name, namelen); int len=strlen(files[i].name); printf("\nnamelen=%d",len); printf("\nname=%s\n",files[i].name); When I try to open() file with that files[i].name variable it wont open so the data does not appear to be getting written inside the read() &files[i].name and strlen() causes segemntation error as well as trying to print the filename

  Say I have an array like: Array ( [0] => Array ( [Data] => Array ( [id] => 1 [title] => Manager [name] => John Smith ) ) [1] => Array ( [Data] => Array ( [id] => 1 [title] => Clerk [name] => ( [first] => Jane [last] => Smith ) ) ) ) I want to be able to build a function that I can pass a string to that will act as the array index path and return the appropriate array value without using eval(). Is that possible? function($indexPath, $arrayToAccess) { //$indexPath would be something like [0]['Data']['name'] which would return //"Manager" or it could be [1]['Data']['name']['first'] which would return //"Jane" but the amount of array indexs that will be in the index path can //change, so there might be 3 like the first example, or 4 like the second. return $arrayToAccess[$indexPath] <-obviously wont work }

• Mouse management in JavaScript games

  Im using JavaScript, the HTML5 canvas-element and WebGL to make a simple 3D-game in first person view for fun. Ideally, I would like to control my movement by using the keyboard to move and the mouse to look around, like you usually do in FPS-games. As you probably understand, there are some limits to this in the browser, since the mouse cant be captured: When using the onmousemove event, no further movement will be detected when the mouse pointer reaches the border of my screen (which means that I wont be able to run in a circle for example) Seeing the mouse move across the screen is not the end of the world, but it is a little annoying From what I know, it's impossible to hide the mouse as well as setting it's position in JavaScript. Hence, my question is this: If we cant to those things, what can we do in order to get close to the desktop gaming experience when it comes to the mouse in the browser? And I mean right now, using current APIs. Not "what could be changed in some standard to make life easier". Also, I realize that I could use the keyboard to look around, but then we're back in 1995 when Quake were actually played like that. And of course I know that it would be easier to write a desktop application or use Flash at least, but Im trying to push JavaScript's limits here. Apart from those things, what are your suggestions? Any kind of reference, existing game, crazy idea, hack or even browser specific solution would be appreciated.
