• approx via inetd is not open to connection for others machines

  I have an approx server to speed up Debian apt updates, on my Ubuntu 11.04 desktop PC, it had ran fine in the past, but today le 9999 port is open from localhost, but not for others PC. I have not modified inetd configuration at all.   Tengo un servidor con 8GB de RAM de 32 bits, instale windows server 2003 enterprise y sql server 2005 enterprise, el Sistema Operativo reconoce los 8GB, pero el Sql Server solo usaba 1.6 GB de memoria, entonces agregue al boot.ini el parametro /PAE y en Sql Server le habilite AWE de 1GB a 5GB, despues de reiniciar el servidor el Sistema que usa la BD estaba mas rapido mejoro bastante, pero en memoria el Sql Server solo usa 100 MB, veo la cantidad de memoria usada en el Administrador de Tareas de Windows, y no se si esta funcionando AWE o que sucedio? Could you suggest how to change a function or perhaps to change litteral to JSON array to get it work?! And at the end to get 'm' and 'n' values as numbers.

• I need to speed up a function. Should I use cython, ctypes, or something else?

  I'm having a lot of fun learning Python by writing a genetic programming type of application. I've had some great advice from Torsten Marek, Paul Hankin and Alex Martelli on this site. The program has 4 main functions: generate (randomly) an expression tree. evaluate the fitness of the tree crossbreed mutate As all of generate, crossbreed and mutate call 'evaluate the fitness'. it is the busiest function and is the primary bottleneck speedwise. As is the nature of genetic algorithms, it has to search an immense solution space so the faster the better. I want to speed up each of these functions. I'll start with the fitness evaluator. My question is what is the best way to do this. I've been looking into cython, ctypes and 'linking and embedding'. They are all new to me and quite beyond me at the moment but I look forward to learning one and eventually all of them. The 'fitness function' needs to compare the value of the expression tree to the value of the target expression. So it will consist of a postfix evaluator which will read the tree in a postfix order. I have all the code in python. I need advice on which I should learn and use now: cython, ctypes or linking and embedding. Thank you.

• Intel Rapid Start Driver Reinstallation doesn't work?

  I recently had to reformat my entire drive and reinstall Windows 7. Something that bothers me is that when I was downloading the Intel Rapid Start driver (I have a Lenovo Ideapad Y480, and it comes standard with the Rapid Start) and tried to install it, the installer claimed that my system did not meet the requirements in order to install, when it was previously installed by the OEM. My startup times have increased from 21 seconds to log-in screen to 50 seconds. Please help... • How to bring application to front every 15 minutes on Mac OS X Lion?

  I have a free or cheap little app called Desktop Task Timer LE that I've been using to track my time as I work on various projects. I'd like to have it pop up as the foreground app every 15 minutes to prevent me from forgetting to stop/change the timer after I've moved on to a different task. I know I can have the app launch using a script in Automator or AppleScript, but I don't know how to have that script fire off every 15 minutes. I've read about using Launchd and iCal, but I'm still not sure how to do it. (Actually, iCal is probably simple, but I'd like to avoid using it for this.) Any ideas? Also, a further feature would be to have it pop up after 5 (or x) minutes of inactivity on the computer. Not sure if this would work for my needs, but I'd like to test it if possible.

• Linux Software Raid runs checkarray on the First Sunday of the Month? Why?

  It looks like Debian has a default to run checkarray on the first Sunday of the month. This causes massive performance problems and heavy disk usage for 12 hours on my 2TB mirror. Doing this "just in case" is bizzare to me. Discovering data out of sync between the two disks without quorum would be a failure anyway. This massive checking could only tell me that I have an unrecoverable drive failure and corrupt data. Which is nice, but not all that helpful. Is it necessary? Given I have no disk errors and no reason to believe my disks have failed, why is this check necessary? • Make GRUB 2 boot Windows 8 safe mode

  I have a dual boot configuration: Windows 8 Consumer and Ubuntu 11.10. I tried to install the Asus drivers for my motherboard (P8Z68-V LE EFI) in windows 8, and i now get bluescreens when starting windows. Holding F8 or Shift-F8 doesn't seem to be working, so is there another way to get into Safe Mode, or uninstall the errant driver? I need to get into Safe Mode in windows to fix the issue. Things I have tried: Disabling overclock Holding F8 or Shift+F8 How can i get GRUB 2 to boot windows 8 in safe mode? Or is there another way to disable a driver that is making it impossible to boot?

• How do I break down an NSTimeInterval into year, months, days, hours, minutes and seconds on iPhone?

  I have a time interval that spans years and I want all the time components from year down to seconds. My first thought is to integer divide the time interval by seconds in a year, subtract that from a running total of seconds, divide that by seconds in a month, subtract that from the running total and so on. That just seems convoluted and I've read that whenever you are doing something that looks convoluted, there is probably a built-in method. Is there? I integrated Alex's 2nd method into my code. It's in a method called by a UIDatePicker in my interface.   Hi, as suggested by the title, I want to change CPU: actually I have two computers, one with Ubuntu running on an AMD Athlon 64 dual core 5200+ and the other with FreeBSD running on an AMD Sempron single core LE-1250. I would like to swap (I am not sure that this is the correct term...) the CPUs from one computer to the other one, that is take the dual core from the ubuntu pc and put it inside the freebsd pc and viceversa. The mobo is the same. Do you think I will encounter problems?

  Hi, I have a SqlServer2005 table "Group" similar to the following: Id (PK, int) Name (varchar(50)) ParentId (int) where ParentId refers to another Id in the Group table. This is used to model hierarchical groups such as: Group 1 (id = 1, parentid = null) +--Group 2 (id = 2, parentid = 1) +--Group 3 (id = 3, parentid = 1) +--Group 4 (id = 4, parentid = 3) Group 5 (id = 5, parentid = null) +--Group 6 (id = 6, parentid = 5) You get the picture I have another table, let's call it "Data" for the sake of simplification, which looks something like: Id (PK, int) Key (varchar) Value (varchar) GroupId (FK, int) Now, I am trying to write a stored proc which can get me the "Data" for a given group. For example, if I query for group 1, it returns me the Key-Value-Pairs from Data where groupId = 1. If I query for group 2, it returns the KVPs for groupId = 1, then unioned with those which have groupId = 2 (and duplicated keys are replaced). Ideally, the sproc would also fail gracefully if there is a cycle (ie if group 1's parent is group 2 and group 2's parent is group 1) Has anyone had experience in writing such a sproc, or know how this might be accomplished? • Computer loads BIOS, but won't load OS

  I have just purchased a brand new motherboard bundle, installed into the old case with the old PSU and the old HDD. I can get into the BIOS, but whenever I try to boot from the HDD, it just sits with the fans going, but nothing is displayed. The moniter works (tested with another machine), and I'd hope there are no problems with the motherboard, CPU or RAM because as I said I only brought them today. The only things I can think of are: The PSU's motherboard connector is a 20-pin, and the motherboard has a 24-pin connector (not a problem with the previous board) The OS is not supported (doesn't seem likly to me, but possible I guess) Here is my system configuration: Motherboard: ASUS F1A55-M le CPU: AMD APU A6 3500 HDD: 1Tb SATA RAM: 4Gb DDR3 OS: Ubuntu Satanic v666.9 PSU: Winpower ATX-400 (this thing is REALLY old) If anyone is able to offer a reason as to why this is not working, or a possible solution, it would be greatly appriciated.

  This is a jFrame to connect to the database and this is in the button connect. My issue is in the passwordField NetBeans make me do a char[], but my .getConnection not let me insert the char[] ERROR: "no suitable method found for getConnection(String,String,char[])". So I will change to String right? So when I change and run the jFrame said access denied. when I start doing the System.out.println(l) " Give me the right answer" Like this: "Alex". But when I do the System.out.println(password) "Give me the Array spaces and not the value" Like this: jdbc:mysql://localhost/home inventory root [C@5be5ab68 <--- Array space .
