  • Drools - Doing Complex Stuff inside a Rule Condition or Consequence

    - by mfcabrera
    Hello, In my company we are planning to use Drools a BRE for couple of projects. Now we trying to define some best-practices. My question is what should be and shouldn't be done inside a Rule Condition/Consequence. Given that we can write Java directly or call methods (for example From a Global object in the Working Memory). Example. Given a Rule that evaluates a generic Object (e.g. Person) have property set to true. Now, that specific propertie can only be defined for that Object going to the database and fetching that info. So we have two ways of implementing that: Alternative A: Go to the database and fetch the object property (true/false, a code) Insert the Object in the working memory Evaluate the rule Alternative B: Insert a Global Object that has a method that connects to the database and check for the property for the given object. Insert the Object to eval in Working Memory In the rule, call the Global Object and perform the access to the database Which of those is considered better? I really like A, but sometimes B is more straightforward, however what would happen if something like a Exception from the Database is raised? I have seen the alternative B implemented in the Drools 5.0 Book from Packt Publishing,however they are doing a mocking and they don't talk about the actual implications of going to the database at all. Thank you,

  • Using Mercurial in a Large Organization

    - by Kristopher Johnson
    I've been using Mercurial for my own personal projects for a while, and I love it. My employer is considering a switch from CVS to SVN, but I'm wondering whether I should push for Mercurial (or some other DVCS) instead. One wrinkle with Mercurial is that it seems to be designed around the idea of having a single repository per "project". In this organization, there are dozens of different executables, DLLs, and other components in the current CVS repository, hierarchically organized. There are a lot of generic reusable components, but also some customer-specific components, and customer-specific configurations. The current build procedures generally get some set of subtrees out of the CVS repository. If we move from CVS to Mercurial, what is the best way to organize the repository/repositories? Should we have one huge Mercurial repository containing everything? If not, how fine-grained should the smaller repositories be? I think people will find it very annoying if they have to pull and push updates from a lot of different places, but they will also find it annoying if they have to pull/push the entire company codebase. Anybody have experience with this, or advice?

  • Entity and N-Tier architecture in C#

    - by acadia
    Hello, I have three tables as shown below Emp ---- empID int empName deptID empDetails ----------- empDetailsID int empID int empDocuments -------------- docID empID docName docType I am creating a entity class so that I can use n-tier architecture to do database transactions etc in C#. I started creating class for the same as shown below using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; namespace employee { class emp { private int empID; private string empName; private int deptID; public int EmpID { get; set; } public string EmpName { get; set; } public int deptID { get; set; } } } My question is as empDetails and empDocuments are related to emp by empID. How do I have those in my emp class. I would appreciate if you can direct me to an example. Thanks

  • What should I do from here?

    - by Sunscreen
    Hi all, First of all, the site rocks. You can ask and get specific answers, mainly, for programming issues. This question is more generic. I studied Physics for my bachelors and Digital Image Processing for my masters, ended on September 2001. From then on I started working as a developer and software analyst. I worked, and working, witn C, C++, AIX OS, XP OS, MFC 4.21. I also did some data translations from EDIFACT to XML and viceversa. I trained users for the applications that I was running, I created documents (detailed design docs mainly), though most of the time I wrote, and I still write, code. Recently I applied for the best greek, graduate university for my MBA and they accepted me, starting on Jan 2011. I am a developer with no specific insight with the languages I work. I can be very productive with some subsets of the languages that the companies I worked for use, though this is a limited thing for a developer. If I get my MBA I can be a semi-businees analyst ot consultant, as I am now a semi-developer. The problem is that I can do some but not all in a designated working area. What should I do from here? Should I get my MBA and look forswitching industries? Should I read and excersise myself with new languages and frameworks? Should I be more focussed to the deligations from my current job (currently I work with MFC)? Just for the note, I am 32 and I feel I am wasting my time. I am not getting the best that I can get from is current position (and I work here for 3+ years). Thanks all, Sun

  • Question about using an access database as a resource file in Visual Studio.

    - by user354303
    Hi I am trying to embed a Microsoft Access database file into my Class assembly DLL. I want my code to reference the resource file and use it with a ADODB.Connection object. Any body know a simpler way, or an easier way? Or what is wrong with my code, when i added the resource file it added me dataset definitions, but i have no idea what to do with those. The connection string I am trying below is from an automatically generated app.config. I did add the item as a resource... using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using System.Data; using ConsoleApplication1.Resources;//SPPrinterLicenses using System.Data.OleDb; using ADODB; using System.Configuration; namespace ConsoleApplication1 { class SharePointPrinterManager { public static bool IsValidLicense(string HardwareID) { OleDbDataAdapter da = new OleDbDataAdapter(); DataSet ds = new DataSet(); ADODB.Connection adoCn = new Connection(); ADODB.Recordset adoRs = new Recordset(); //**open command below fails** adoCn.Open( @"Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=|DataDirectory|\Resources\SPPrinterLicenses.accdb;Persist Security Info=True", "", "", 1); adoRs.Open("Select * from AllWorkstationLicenses", adoCn, ADODB.CursorTypeEnum.adOpenForwardOnly, ADODB.LockTypeEnum.adLockReadOnly, 1); da.Fill(ds, adoRs, "AllworkstationLicenses"); adoCn.Close(); DataTable dt = new DataTable(); //ds.Tables. return true; } } }

(like which COM is the phone on [it's attached through USB], what about baudrate and databits?) when i run the program nothing really happens, i would like to send AT COMMANDS to my phone and the textbox is there to receive the response from my phone this is my first time using threads. am i using them correctly? what is the purpose of it in the current example? is it to just have a delay between send a response? what am i doing wrong?

  • Factorial function - design and test.

    - by lukas
    I'm trying to nail down some interview questions, so I stared with a simple one. Design the factorial function. This function is a leaf (no dependencies - easly testable), so I made it static inside the helper class. public static class MathHelper { public static int Factorial(int n) { Debug.Assert(n >= 0); if (n < 0) { throw new ArgumentException("n cannot be lower that 0"); } Debug.Assert(n <= 12); if (n > 12) { throw new OverflowException("Overflow occurs above 12 factorial"); } //by definition if (n == 0) { return 1; } int factorialOfN = 1; for (int i = 1; i <= n; ++i) { //checked //{ factorialOfN *= i; //} } return factorialOfN; } } Testing: [TestMethod] [ExpectedException(typeof(OverflowException))] public void Overflow() { int temp = FactorialHelper.MathHelper.Factorial(40); } [TestMethod] public void ZeroTest() { int factorialOfZero = FactorialHelper.MathHelper.Factorial(0); Assert.AreEqual(1, factorialOfZero); } [TestMethod] public void FactorialOf5() { int factOf5 = FactorialHelper.MathHelper.Factorial(5); Assert.AreEqual(120,factOf5); } [TestMethod] [ExpectedException(typeof(ArgumentException))] public void NegativeTest() { int factOfMinus5 = FactorialHelper.MathHelper.Factorial(-5); } I have a few questions: Is it correct? (I hope so ;) ) Does it throw right exceptions? Should I use checked context or this trick ( n 12 ) is ok? Is it better to use uint istead of checking for negative values? Future improving: Overload for long, decimal, BigInteger or maybe generic method? Thank you

  • What is a simple way to add a timer to a method

    - by John
    The following is in C#. I'm trying to do something very simple (I think). I have a method that loads an XML document XDocument doc = XDocument.Load(uri); , but I don't want to tie up pc resources if there are issues (connectivity, document size, etc.). So I'd like to be able to add a timeout variable that will cut the method off after a given number of seconds. I'm a newbie when it comes to asynchronous programming and find it confusing that there are so many examples written so many different ways . . . and none of them appear simple. I'd like a simple solution, if possible. Here's my thoughts so far on possible solution paths: 1) A method that wraps the existing load public XDocument LoadXDocument(string uri, int timeout){ //code } 2) A wrapper, but as an extension method XDocument doc = XDocument.LoadWithTimeout(string uri, int timeout); 3) A generic extension method. Object obj = SomeStaticClass.LoadWithTimeout(??? method, int timeout); 3), on its face seems really nice, because it would mean being able to generically add timeouts to many different method calls and not specifically tied to one type of object, but I suspect that it is either i)impossible or ii) very difficult. Please assist. Thanks.

  • WP7 listbox binding not working properly

    - by Marco
    A noob error for sure (I started yesterday afternoon developing in WP7), but I'm wasting a lot time on it. I post my class and a little part of my code: public class ChronoLaps : INotifyPropertyChanged { private ObservableCollection<ChronoLap> laps = null; public int CurrentLap { get { return lap; } set { if (value == lap) return; // Some code here .... ChronoLap newlap = new ChronoLap() { // Some code here ... }; Laps.Insert(0, newlap); lap = value; NotifyPropertyChanged("CurrentLap"); NotifyPropertyChanged("Laps"); } } public ObservableCollection<ChronoLap> Laps { get { return laps; } set { if (value == laps) return; laps = value; if (laps != null) { laps.CollectionChanged += delegate { MeanTime = Laps.Sum(p => p.Time.TotalMilliseconds) / (Laps.Count * 1000); NotifyPropertyChanged("MeanTime"); }; } NotifyPropertyChanged("Laps"); } } } MainPage.xaml.cs public partial class MainPage : PhoneApplicationPage { public ChronoLaps History { get; private set; } private void butStart_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { History = new ChronoLaps(); // History.Laps.Add(new ChronoLap() { Distance = 0 }); LayoutRoot.DataContext = History; } } MainPage.xaml <phone:PhoneApplicationPage> <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="Transparent"> <Grid Grid.Row="2"> <ScrollViewer Margin="-5,13,3,36" Height="758"> <ListBox Name="lbHistory" ItemContainerStyle="{StaticResource ListBoxStyle}" ItemsSource="{Binding Laps}" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="5,25,0,0" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="444"> <ListBox.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Lap}" Width="40" /> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Time}" Width="140" /> <TextBlock Text="{Binding TotalTime}" Width="140" /> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Distance}" /> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </ListBox.ItemTemplate> </ListBox> </ScrollViewer> </Grid> </Grid> </phone:PhoneApplicationPage> Problem is that when I add one or more items to History.Laps collection, my listbox is not refreshed and these items don't appear. But if I remove comment on // History.Laps.Add(new ChronoLap()... line, this item appear and so every other inserted later. More: if I remove that comment and then write History.Laps.Clear() (before or after setting binding) binding is not working anymore. It's like it gets crazy if collection is empty. I really don't understand the reason... UPDATE AND SOLUTION: If i move History = new ChronoLaps(); LayoutRoot.DataContext = History; from butStart_Click to public MainPage() everything works as expected. Can someone explain me the reason?

  • Multi-client C# ODBC (Sybase/Oracle/MSSQL) table access question.

    - by Hamish Grubijan
    I am working on a feature that would allow clients pick a unique identifier (ci_name). The code below is a generic version that gets expanded to the right sql depending on the vendor. Hopefully it makes sense. #include "sql.h" create table client_identification ( ci_id TYPE_ID IDENTITY, ci_name varchar(64) not null, constraint ci_pk primary key (ci_name) ); go CREATE_SEQUENCE(ci_id) There will be simple stored procedures for adding, retrieving, and deleting these user records. This will be used by several admins. This will not happen very frequently, but there is still a possibility that something will be added or deleted since the list was initially retrieved. I have not yet decided if I need to detect the case of a double delete, but the user name cannot be created twice - primary key constraint will object. I want to be able to detect this particular case and display something like: "you snooze - you loose." :) I would like to leverage the pk constraint instead of doing some extra sql gymnastics. So, how can I detect this case cleanly, so that it works in MS SQL 2008, Sybase, and Oracle? I hope to do better than catch a general ODBC exception and parse out the text and look for what Sybase, Oracle, and MSSQL would give me back. Oracle is a little different. We actually prepend these variables to the Oracle version of stored procedures because they are not available otherwise: Vret_val out number, Vtran_count in out number, Vmessage_count in out number, Thanks. General helpful tips and comments are welcome, except for naming convention ones ( I do not have a choice here, plus I mangled the actual names a bit).

  • How do I cover unintuitive code blocks?

    - by naivedeveloper
    For some reason, I'm having a hard time trying to cover the block of code below. This code is an excerpt from the UNIX uniq command. I'm trying to write test cases to cover all blocks, but can't seem to reach this block: if (nfiles == 2) { // Generic error routine } In context: int main (int argc, char **argv) { int optc = 0; bool posixly_correct = (getenv ("POSIXLY_CORRECT") != NULL); int nfiles = 0; char const *file[2]; file[0] = file[1] = "-"; program_name = argv[0]; skip_chars = 0; skip_fields = 0; check_chars = SIZE_MAX; for (;;) { /* Parse an operand with leading "+" as a file after "--" was seen; or if pedantic and a file was seen; or if not obsolete. */ if (optc == -1 || (posixly_correct && nfiles != 0) || ((optc = getopt_long (argc, argv, "-0123456789Dcdf:is:uw:", longopts, NULL)) == -1)) { if (optind == argc) break; if (nfiles == 2) { // Handle errors } file[nfiles++] = argv[optind++]; } else switch (optc) { case 1: { unsigned long int size; if (optarg[0] == '+' && posix2_version () < 200112 && xstrtoul (optarg, NULL, 10, &size, "") == LONGINT_OK && size <= SIZE_MAX) skip_chars = size; else if (nfiles == 2) { // Handle error } else file[nfiles++] = optarg; } break; } } } Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • calculating the index of an array C#

    - by Kerry G
    I want to display a list of the answers a student entered incorrectly. How do I identify the index of these questions? I am hoping to change the contents of a textbox to a list of the questions answered incorrectly, which would require calculating the index of each incorrect question. using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.ComponentModel; using System.Data; using System.Drawing; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using System.Threading.Tasks; using System.Windows.Forms; namespace WindowsFormsApplication5 { public partial class Form1 : Form { public Form1() { InitializeComponent(); } //return a pass/fail //return number of correct answers //return number of incorrect answers //return index figures of incorrect values public void examResults () { string[] correctAnswers = {B,D,A,A,C,A,B,A,C,D,B,C,D,A,D,C,C,B,D,A}; string[] studentResults = File.ReadAllLines("studentResults.txt"); var c = correctAnswers.Where((x, i) => x.Equals(studentResults[i])).Count(); if ( c <= 14) passFailBox.Text = "Student has failed the exam"; else passFailBox.Text = "Student has passed the exam"; numberCorrectBox.Text = "Student has answered" + c + "answers correctly"; int f; f= 21-c; numberIncorrectBox.Text = "Student has answered" + f + "answers incorrectly"; } } }

  • Looking for an email template engine for end-users ...

    - by RizwanK
    We have a number of customers that we have to send monthly invoices too. Right now, I'm managing a codebase that does SQL queries against our customer database and billing database and places that data into emails - and sends it. I grow weary of maintaining this every time we want to include a new promotion or change our customer service phone numbers. So, I'm looking for a replacement to move more of this into the hands of those requesting the changes. In my ideal world, I need : A WYSIWYG (man, does anyone even say that anymore?) email editor that generates templates based upon the output from a Database Query. The ability to drag and drop various fields from the database query into the email template. Display of sample email results with the database query. Web application, preferably not requiring IIS. Involve as little code as possible for the end-user, but allow basic functionality (i.e. arrays/for loops) Either comes with it's own email delivery engine, or writes output in a way that I can easily write a Python script to deliver the email. Support for generic Database Connectors. (I need MSSQL and MySQL) F/OSS So ... can anyone suggest a project like this, or some tools that'd be useful for rolling my own? (My current alternative idea is using something like ERB or Tenjin, having them write the code, but not having live-preview for the editor would suck...)

  • Strange results while measuring delta time on Linux

    - by pachanga
    Folks, could you please explain why I'm getting very strange results from time to time using the the following code: #include <unistd.h> #include <sys/time.h> #include <time.h> #include <stdio.h> int main() { struct timeval start, end; long mtime, seconds, useconds; while(1) { gettimeofday(&start, NULL); usleep(2000); gettimeofday(&end, NULL); seconds = end.tv_sec - start.tv_sec; useconds = end.tv_usec - start.tv_usec; mtime = ((seconds) * 1000 + useconds/1000.0) + 0.5; if(mtime > 10) printf("WTF: %ld\n", mtime); } return 0; } (You can compile and run it with: gcc test.c -o out -lrt && ./out) What I'm experiencing is sporadic big values of mtime variable almost every second or even more often, e.g: $ gcc test.c -o out -lrt && ./out WTF: 14 WTF: 11 WTF: 11 WTF: 11 WTF: 14 WTF: 13 WTF: 13 WTF: 11 WTF: 16 How can this be possible? Is it OS to blame? Does it do too much context switching? But my box is idle( load average: 0.02, 0.02, 0.3). Here is my Linux kernel version: $ uname -a Linux kurluka 2.6.31-21-generic #59-Ubuntu SMP Wed Mar 24 07:28:56 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux

  • I'm trying to make lots of the same object appear randomly on the screen subject to conditions and k

    - by Katsideswide
    Hi! A good friend recommended this site to me, it looks really useful! I'm a bit of a shameless noob at actionscript and after 3 days of tutorials and advice I've hit a brick wall. I've managed to get a sensor attached to an arduino talking to flash using something called AS3glue. it works, when i set up a trace("leaf") for the contition that the sensor reads 0, i get a printout of the word "leaf". however i want the program to make a graphic appear on the screen when this condition is met, not just trace something. I'm trying to get the program to generate a library object called "Enemy" on the screen at a random position each time the conditions are met. It's called enemy because I was following a game tutorial...actually it's a drawing of a leaf. Here's the bit of the code which is causing me problems: var army:Array; var enemy:Enemy; function AvoiderGame() { army = new Array(); var newEnemy = new Enemy( 100, 100 ); army.push( newEnemy ); addChild( newEnemy ); } function timerEvent(event:Event):void { if (a.getAnalogData(0) ==0 && a.getAnalogData(0) != this.lastposition){ trace("leaf"); var randomX:Number = (Math.random() * 200) + 100; var randomY:Number = (Math.random() * 150) + 50; var newEnemy = new Enemy( randomX, randomY); army.push( newEnemy ); addChild( newEnemy ); } else if (a.getAnalogData(0) == 0) { //don't trace anything } else { //don't trace anything } this.lastposition = a.getAnalogData(0); //afterwards, set the position to be the new lastposition and repeat. } I've imported "import flash.display.MovieClip;" and the code for the Enemy class looks like this: package { import flash.display.MovieClip; public class Enemy extends MovieClip { public function Enemy( startX:Number, startY:Number ) { x = startX; y = startY; } } } Here's my error. I've tried googling, it seems like a pretty general error: TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at as3glue_program_fla::MainTimeline/timerEvent() at flash.utils::Timer/_timerDispatch() at flash.utils::Timer/tick() I've made sure that the "Enemy" object is exported for AS3. I'm going for something like this when it's programmed in AS2: leafCounter = 0; //set the counter to 0 counter.swapDepths(1000); //puts the counter on top of pretty much anything, unless you make more than 1000 leaves! counter.textbox.text = 0; //shows "0" in the text box in the "counter" movie clip this.onMouseDown = function() { //triggers when the mouse is clicked this.attachMovie("Leaf","Leaf"+leafCounter,leafCounter,{_x:Math.random()*Stage.width,_y:Math.random()*Stage.height,_rotation:Math.random()*360}); //adds a leaf to rthe stage with a random position and random rotation leafCounter++; //adds 1 to the leaf counter counter.textbox.text = leafCounter; //shows that number in the text box } I'm sure it must be a simple error, I can get the logic working when it just traces something on the screen but i can't get it to generate an "enemy" Any help or hints would be really useful! I know this is a bit of a ham-fisted job of altering existing code.

  • Adding class constraints to typeclass instance

    - by BleuM937
    I'm trying to implement the Cantor Pairing Function, as an instance of a generic Pair typeclass, as so: module Pair (Pair, CantorPair) where -- Pair interface class Pair p where pi :: a -> a -> p a k :: p a -> a l :: p a -> a -- Wrapper for typing newtype CantorPair a = P { unP :: a } -- Assume two functions with signatures: cantorPair :: Integral a => a -> a -> CantorPair a cantorUnpair :: Integral a => CantorPair a -> (a, a) -- I need to somehow add an Integral a constraint to this instance, -- but I can't work out how to do it. instance Pair CantorPair where pi = cantorPair k = fst . cantorUnpair l = snd . cantorUnpair How can I add the appropriate Integral constraint to the instance? I have a vague feeling I might need to modify the Pair interface itself, but not sure how to go about this.

    Hi i am trying to implement a generic method which allows to output csv file public static void WriteToCsv<T>(List<T> list) where T : new() { const string attachment = "attachment; filename=PersonList.csv"; HttpContext.Current.Response.Clear(); HttpContext.Current.Response.ClearHeaders(); HttpContext.Current.Response.ClearContent(); HttpContext.Current.Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", attachment); HttpContext.Current.Response.ContentType = "text/csv"; HttpContext.Current.Response.AddHeader("Pragma", "public"); bool isFirstRow = true; foreach (T item in list) { //Get public properties PropertyInfo[] propertyInfo = item.GetType().GetProperties(); while (isFirstRow) { WriteColumnName(propertyInfo); isFirstRow = false; } Type type = typeof (T); StringBuilder stringBuilder = new StringBuilder(); foreach (PropertyInfo info in propertyInfo) { //string value ???? I am trying to get the value of the property info for the item object } HttpContext.Current.Response.Write(stringBuilder.ToString()); HttpContext.Current.Response.Write(Environment.NewLine); } HttpContext.Current.Response.End(); } but I am not able to get the value of the object's property Any suggestion? Thanks

  • How can I take advantage of IObservable/IObserver to get rid of my "god object"?

    - by Will
    In a system I'm currently working on, I have many components which are defined as interfaces and base classes. Each part of the system has some specific points where they interact with other parts of the system. For example, the data readying component readies some data which eventually needs to go to the data processing portion, the communications component needs to query different components for their status for relaying to the outside, etc. Currently, I glue these parts of the system together using a "god object", or an object with intimate knowledge of different parts of the system. It registers with events over here and shuttles the results to methods over there, creates a callback method here and returns the result of that method over there, and passes many requests through a multi-threaded queue for processing because it "knows" certain actions have to run on STA threads, etc. While its convenient, it concerns me that this one type knows so much about how everybody else in the system is designed. I'd much prefer a more generic hub that can be given instances which can expose events or methods or callbacks or that can consume these. I've been seeing more about the IObservable/IObserver features of the reactive framework and that are being rolled into .NET 4.0 (I believe). Can I leverage this pattern to help replace my "god object"? How should I go about doing this? Are there any resources for using this pattern for this specific purpose?

  • How expensive is a context switch? Is it better to implement a manual task switch than to rely on OS

    - by Vilx-
    The title says it all. Imagine I have two (three, four, whatever) tasks that have to run in parallel. Now, the easy way to do this would be to create separate threads and forget about it. But on a plain old single-core CPU that would mean a lot of context switching - and we all know that context switching is big, bad, slow, and generally simply Evil. It should be avoided, right? On that note, if I'm writing the software from ground up anyway, I could go the extra mile and implement my own task-switching. Split each task in parts, save the state inbetween, and then switch among them within a single thread. Or, if I detect that there are multiple CPU cores, I could just give each task to a separate thread and all would be well. The second solution does have the advantage of adapting to the number of available CPU cores, but will the manual task-switch really be faster than the one in the OS core? Especially if I'm trying to make the whole thing generic with a TaskManager and an ITask, etc?

  • Freetype2 (error-)return value documentation

    - by Awaki
    In short, I'm looking for documentation that would limit the error situations to check for after a Freetype library function failed, much like the OpenGL and Win32 APIs document the error codes generated by their respective functions. I can't seem to find such documentation though, so I was wondering how to best handle translation of Freetype errors to typed exceptions. Background: I am currently in the process of implementing font-rendering capability (using Freetype) for my GUI framework, which makes strong use of typed exceptions to indicate error situations. However, the Freetype docs seem to completely omit what errors can be expected from what functions. That, if such documentation does indeed not exist, would basically leave me with two options: either guessing which errors make sense for a certain Freetype function (obviously prone to mistakes on my part), or considering every error code for translation into appropriate exceptions (less verbose since I would have to write the translation only once). Performance isn't really critical in the code that calls the Freetype library, so even the latter option would probably be acceptable, but surely there must be some kind of documentation on which library calls may return what Freetype error? Is there any such documentation which I just somehow managed to not find? Should I go the route of generically expecting every error code for translation? Or are there other ways to approach this problem? By the way, I wanted to avoid introducing some kind of generic FreetypeException (containing a description of the Freetype error) since I intended to completely hide what libraries I'm using (not from a legal point-of-view, mind you), but I guess I can be convinced to do this anyway if the consensus is that it would be the best option. I don't think it matters for this question, but I'm writing in C++.

  • Slow T-SQL query, convert to LINQ to Object

    - by yimbot
    I have a T-SQL query which populates a DataSet from an MSSQL database. string qry = "SELECT * FROM EvnLog AS E WHERE TimeDate = (SELECT MAX(TimeDate) From EvnLog WHERE Code = E.Code) AND (Event = 8) AND (TimeDate BETWEEN '" + Start + "' AND '" + Finish + "')" The database is quite large and being the type of nested query it is, the Data Adapter can take a number of minutes to fill the DataSet. I have extended the DataAdapter's timeout value to 480 seconds to combat it, but the client still complains about slow performance and occassional timeouts. To combat this, I was considering executing a simpler query (ie. just taking the date range) and then populating a Generic List which I could then execute a Linq query against. The simple query executes very quickly which is great. However, I cannot seem to build a Linq query which generates the same results as the T-SQL query above. Is this the best solution to this problem? Can anyone provide tips on rewriting the above T-SQL into Linq? I have also considered using a DataView, but cannot seem to get the results from that either.
