  • How can I check if a particular jQuery UI function is available and use a different function if it i

    I'm writing a jQuery plugin and I would like my code to take advantage of the jQuery UI show(effect, [options], [speed], [callback]) and hide(effect, [options], [speed], [callback]) functions, which allow you to show and hide elements with a nice animation. However, I'd also like my plugin to degrade gracefully if jQuery UI isn't available, switching back to use the basic, non-animating show() and hide() functions present in the standard jQuery API. I'll need to test for the show and hide functions specifically, as even if jQuery UI is available it could potentially be a custom version, without the Effects components included. At first I thought that I might be able to do something like: if(typeof myelement.show('blind', 'slow') == 'undefined') { myelement.show('blind', 'slow'); } else { myelement.show(); } But of course this doesn't work, as even if UI isn't present, show() is still a function, it just has a different signature—so typeof returns object in either case. So, what's the best way for me to check if jQuery UI is available to my plugin? Any help is much appreciated!

    I'm creating a new Client / Server application in C# and expect to have a fairly high rate of connections. That made me think of database connection pools which help mitigate the expense of creating and disposing connections between the client and database. I would like to create a similar capability for my application and haven't been able to find any good examples of how to apply this pattern. Do I really need to spin up an instance of a TcpClient every time I want to send a message to the server and receive a receipt message? Each connection is expected to transport between 1-5KB with each receiving a 1KB response message. I realize this question is somewhat vague, but I am starting from scratch so I am open to suggestions. Even if that means my suppositions are all wrong.

    Hey, I've written a function to copy any variable type into a byte vector, however whenever I insert something it gets inserted in reverse. Here's the code. template <class Type> void Packet::copyToByte(Type input, vector<uint8_t>&output) { copy((uint8_t*) &input, ((uint8_t*) &input) + sizeof(Type), back_inserter(output)); } Now whenever I add for example a uint16_t with the value 0x2f1f it gets inserted as 1f 2f instead of the expected 2f 1f.     Hey, Since week I use ToirtoiseSVN and AnkhSVN and GoogleCode and sourceforge.net as my project hosting. For me it's frustrating to fill all this forms before create next project. So I start thinking about mu own repository hosting... Can I use simple file hosting etc. and install there software like use Google or SourceForge to have my own SVN Server ? My point is to have independent repository in internet without all this uselessly UI interface which give me Google and SF to administrate my version control. I don't want to take advantage of already exist hosting like GoogleCode etc - I want to be independent from them! ;) Or maybe it's other way to do my own repository hosting and FREE ;) Please don't tell me that I'm at mercy of commercial hosting... :/ p.s. If I wrote something wrong, sorry ;)

  • Why is 'heroku create' doing nothing?

    I opened a heroku account. I followed the instructions on http://docs.heroku.com/quickstart. I have a working rails app which I have deployed successfully elsewhere. I have a github account that works. I have a local git repository for my rails app. I installed the heroku gem. It shows up in my gem list. I typed 'heroku create' at the command prompt... My command console showed that it was thinking about it, but did nothing. No errors. No action. Possible related facts: I am using a Windows 7 machine. I have also failed miserably at deploying with capistrano with a similar--issue command, get no response--pattern.

    I've got an IR sensor which writes its current information to a token which I then interpret in a C# application. That's all good -- no problems there, heres my code: SetLabelText(tokens [1],label_sensorValue); sensorreading = Int32.Parse(tokens[0]); sensordistance = (mathfunctionhere); Great. So the further away the IR sensor is from an object, the lower the sensor reading (as less light is reflected back and received by the sensor). My problem is in interpreting that length. I can go ahead and get lets say "110" as a value when an object is 5 inches away, and then "70" as a value when an object is 6 inches away. Now I want to be able to calculate the distance of an object using these constants for any length. Any ideas?

    Is it possible to create a full text index on a VIEW? If so, given two columns column1 and column2 on a VIEW, what is the SQL to get this done? The reason I'd like to do this is I have two very large tables, where I need to do a FULLTEXT search of a single column on each table and combine the results. The results need to be ordered as a single unit. Suggestions? EDIT: This was my attempt at creating a UNION and ordering by each statements scoring.   • Problem evaluating NULL in an IIF statement (Access)

    Item in the recordset rstImportData("Flat Size") is = Null With that, given the following statement: IIF(IsNull(rstImportData("Flat Size")), Null, cstr(rstImportData("Flat Size"))) Result: Throws error 94: Invalid use of Null If I change the statement by removing the type conversion upon a false comparison: IIF(IsNull(rstImportData("Flat Size")), Null, 0) Result: Null It returns Null as it should have the first time. It appears that I cannot do a type conversion in an IIF if the value passed in should ever be null even if it passes an IIF test, it still attempts to evaluate it at both the true and false answer. The only reason I'm using IIF like this is because I have a 25 line comparison to compare data from an Import against a matching record in a database to see if I need to append the prior to history. Any thoughts? The way data is imported there will be null dates and where the spreadsheet import is in a string format I must convert either side to the other to compare the values properly but if either side is null this exception occurs :(

    I have a series of lines that each need to be plotted with a separate colour. Each line is actually made up of several data sets (positive, negative regions etc.) and so I'd like to be able to create a generator that will feed one colour at a time across a spectrum, for example the gist_rainbow map shown here. I have found the following works but it seems very complicated and more importantly difficult to remember, from pylab import * NUM_COLORS = 22 mp = cm.datad['gist_rainbow'] get_color = matplotlib.colors.LinearSegmentedColormap.from_list(mp, colors=['r', 'b'], N=NUM_COLORS) ... # Then in a for loop this_color = get_color(float(i)/NUM_COLORS) Moreover, it does not cover the range of colours in the gist_rainbow map, I have to redefine a map. Maybe a generator is not the best way to do this, if so what is the accepted way?

    Hi, I'm starting with PHP for dynamic web pages. I have some libaries written in ANSI C for getting/setting parameters and other proprietary stuff. I wonder, is there a simple solution to use a wrapper inside PHP to call this funtions? Is there a already existing class/library? What would be the best practice to do this on my own? I don't want do make calls to external applications and use stdin/stdout! Is there a simple example available?     Hi, I want to create an Event Calendar for my iPhone App. In a first instance the Event Calendar is supposed to list the Events and have a Details View with additional info. It is also supposed to contain an action to trasfer a specific event to the iPhone Calendar. First thoughts go towards using a UITableView where I make the event dates as sections. Since the Calendar is supposed to span many month I am unsure whether this really is the best way to go about it. Any suggestions?   • Query to return internal details about stored function in MS-SQL database

    I have been given access to a ms-sql database that is currently used by 3rd party app. As such, I don't have any documentation on how that application stores the data or how it retrieves it. I can figure a few things out based on the names of various tables and the parameters that the user-defined functions takes and returns, but I'm still getting errors at every other turn. I was thinking that it would be really helpful if I could see what the stored functions were doing with the parameters given to return the output. Right now all I've been able to figure out is how to query for the input parameters and the output columns. Is there any built-in information_schema table that will expose what the function is doing between input and output?

  • Can't create admin user on Heroku

    I am new to rails and I have gone through Kevin Skoglund's Ruby on Rails 3 Essential Training course on Lynda.com. Through the course you set up a simple cms, which I did. It doesn't cover Git or deployment but I've pushed my simple cms to github (https://github.com/nick5a1/Simple_CMS) and deployed to Heroku (http://nkarrasch.herokuapp.com/). In order to deploy to Heroku I followed the Heroku setup guide (https://devcenter.heroku.com/articles/rails3) and switched my database from MySQL to PostgreSQL. As instructed I changed gen'mysql2' to gen 'sqlite3' in my Gemfile and ran bundle install before pushing. I then ran heroku run rake db:migrate. I'm running into 2 problems. When I try to log in (http://nkarrasch.herokuapp.com/access) I get an error "We're sorry, but something went wrong". I should instead be getting a flash message with invalid username/password combination. This is what I'm getting on my test environment on my local machine. Secondly, when I log into the Heroku console to create and create an admin user, when I try to save that user I get the following error: irb(main):004:0> user.save (1.2ms) BEGIN AdminUser Exists (1.9ms) SELECT 1 AS one FROM "admin_users" WHERE "admin_users"."username" = 'Nick5a1' LIMIT 1 (1.7ms) ROLLBACK => false Any advice on how to troubleshoot would be greatly appreciated :).   • Create manual versions

    Hi, Iam planning to create an app, and not to publish it at the google market. i want the users to update thire app once in a while when an updates will be rlsd via server(let's not get into the idea how i gonna do this)... so for this i need to give to each app some ID, so i know that that user gotta update his app, and not new installation (i wanna avoid the case the user will have two versions of the app).. and ofcourse install the app to new users. how could i sign those apps with version when i rls an update manually? mybe some other idea? thanks, ray.
