  • Excel data range - to sum series within date range

    I have a set of data that I would like to manipulate but my problem is not straight forward. In this data I have date ranges that include multiple entries of the same date on some days and not on others. What I need to accomplish is to manage a trading account so that no more than 1% of the account is put at risk on any given day (retrospectively). To do this, when a series of trades falls on the same day, I need to total the risk associated with each of those trades so that I can limit the total risk of the combined trades by limiting the position size I take in each. Here is a sample set of the data I am working with. As you can see, there are 5 trades on Jan 3. Each of these trades comes with a risk value. I need to add the risk values of these 5 trades so that I can compare it to an account value and then determine if I should take more than 1 position in each trade. As you can see there are different numbers of trades that occur on the 4th, 5th 6th and 9th. I need the values returned in each row so that I can further manipulate them in the spreadsheet. I am not new to Excel, but cannot come up with a solution here - your input is much appreciated.   • Windows 7 accounts on a 2008r2 DC keep getting locked out randomly

    As the title states, this happens randomly to Windows 7 accounts on our Windows 2008R2 domain controller. We just had this start happening after changing from 123together hosted exchange to Rackspace hosted exchange. Also around this time our passwords on the DC started expiring, but not the exact day, and everyone has different days they need to change it before. It has only affected 10 out of 30 accounts, and I see no link between them. What are some fixes I should run or things to look for?

  • My internet speed became slow at night

    My internet plan is 512kbps unlimited and I get speed of average 64kbps but at night I used to get speed of 112kbps ..but recently my speed got normal like day time ...as per my view usually at night their is less traffic so I should get good speed like before ... Due to good speed I download and upload at night and my average download+upload per month is 60gb or 70gb... Is it that my ISP people putting restriction on my download and uploads.. I am confused.

  • How to get new screws for HP Dv7 laptop

    The other day I have noticed that there are 3 screws missing from the bottom of my 3 month old HP Pavilion dv7t-7000 laptop. This is causing me various problems such as an unstable screen, and who knows what else soon. My laptop is still under the basic warranty, however, I live outside the USA where I purchased it.   • How Do I Make A Bash Script for Git Checkin/Checkout?

    I was thinking of bringing up a git service on an Ubuntu server. However, the way me and another programmer operate -- we really want to try and stick to one person working on a project at a time. How would I make a Bash script to create a check in and check out with git? We want to prevent anyone from checking in code that hasn't already been checked in, and it should error out with the name of the person who has the code checked out. EDIT: I'm not really interested in using Git with its fantastic diff features. I move 100mph and don't have time to play diff games with the other developers. That's why we're using Git. If the other developers want to play the diff game, they can still do so. But when I check something out, I want it locked to everyone until I check it back in again.

  • Troubleshooting "connection reset" error on my linux server

    I fervently hope someone here can help me with the problem I am experiencing. I am a programmer, and I have very little understanding of linux sysadmin terminology/concepts. I am attempting to troubleshoot a problem with my website. It is a Facebook app, and whenever I try to connect using Chrome, I get an error stating that the "connection was reset". I have been Googling for four days straight trying to find a solution to this problem, but no joy. A big part of the problem is that I do not understand the terminology being employed, and the output from many of the tools referenced is likewise indecipherable to me. I am running a VPS with CentOS 5, apache, PHP, and MySQL. I could spam this post with a ton of information from my iptables, apache, etc but if anyone needs information from my server, please let me know how to get it, and I will post it here.     i could use a little help with rewrite and nginx... Basically the structure of my App looks like this Headdirectory -- -APPBase -SomeMoreStuff -WWWDirectory .htaccess So i need to redirect into the WWWDirectory when i open the Headdirectory. In Apache its done with a htaccess and the following Content : RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^(.*) www/$1 I already tried in Nginx : location /Headdirectory { rewrite ^/(.*) /www/$1; } And i tried to create an Alias but that didnt work...   • Logging off does not kill process in Windows Server 2003

    I have a Windows Server 2003(Enterprise, SP2). My understanding was that any process created by a user will be terminated when the user loggs off the account. But its not happening. I login via Administrator account. Start a simple java process and logoff. But the process is not killed. Is there any configuration for this or something? I am mostly a software programmer and not much in to servers and so I am stuck. I found out that while logging off, 1) Win32 is supposed to send a CTRL_LOGOFF_EVENT to all processes started by that user. 2) JVM is supposed to handle this event and terminate the VM. But I can't understand why my java process is not killed when i logoff. Any idea!!!

We are sorry for the inconvenience. Not a big deal, I can click "Don't Send Error Report" all day. But what's going on, here? Is this a service that I need? Is the frequent crashing indicative of something worse that's happening behind the scenes?

  • seamless mode remote desktop connection from linux to windows

    I am a programmer using Linux as my main OS, however sometimes I need to use windows (ie, office, ea). I'm running qemu with kvm to access the windows "machine". I would like to achieve something that is described here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SeamlessVirtualization (It means I would be able to run chosen applications on Windows and then display them locally on Linux as separate windows achieving good desktop integration). However seamless rdp is buggy and doesn't work on my machine (probably because I'm using a tiling window manager and a 64bit system). Are you aware of any other solution then rdp seamless mode? I would prefer to still use quemu because it uses cpu hardware virtualization, so different protocol/client combination would be preferable.

  • Cannot connect to IIS 7 from localhost

    I cannot connect to the local IIS 7 using "http://localhost" in IE. "http://127.0.0.1" doesn't work either. The strange thing is that if I add a binding on e.g. port 81, then I can reach "http://localhost:81". Also turning off the firewall on the local machine doesn't help. The site is reachable from the internet. The local requests don't seem to hit IIS (no entries in the IIS log files). IIS is hosted on Windows Server 2008 R2 from behind a hardware firewall device. Note that I'm a programmer, not a network administrator, so I'm having a hard time trouble shooting this.

  • What is the cleanest way to upgrade Fedora and also my individual installs while keeping /home?

    I am a professional programmer, using Fedora 10 (and a host of other packages individually installed). I use my system to telecommute. Every year or so, I go through the ritual dance, usually with a second computer and a KVM switch as I don't have office space for two monitors, to build the next version of Fedora and install all my favorite apps. Is there a better way? At least a nice way to keep track of what I need to 'add on' so that I don't have to manually install my app collection? Also, I keep /home on a separate raid-ed drive set so I can also fall prey to 'old-config-file-itis'.

  • Control scheduled tasks execution

    We are a small shop. I am mainly a programmer, but due to being the only one that risks to manage our servers, the task has fallen on me (yet I it is still a secondary function so I cannot give it too much time). Over the course of years we have needed to create a decent number of .bat scripts that run as scheduled tasks in our servers (dump DB servers, SVN servers, copy files, etc.). Manually checking that everyone has proceeded ok is a time consuming task. I could get them to send an email on completion, but then I would get swarmed by lots of emails each morning. If I setup them to only e-mail on failure, I might miss the instances where the error causes the task to abort (or even not to start). Are there other alternatives? We are currently using Windows 2003 R2, but we are thinking of adding some Linux server soon, so a cross-platform solution would be best.

  • Can I increase Windows 7 start menu vertical size to let mire items fit in it?

    I hate putting shortcuts/files on desktop as well as crawling through "All Programs" menu any frequently (and I only pin some essential every-day applications to the task bar). So, I put all the programs I occasionally use to the start menu itself (above the automatic recently used programs section). But even though I've switched it to use small icons, I run out of vertical space in it (just about 16 shortcuts fit there at maximum).

  • My fingers are cold when using my computer - solutions?

    I am a programmer and sit at a computer ten hours a day - and even though the rest of me is nice and warm, my fingers are as cold as ice. Are there any gadgets or tricks to keep your fingers warm while typing/mousing? Gloves do not seem like a good solution, since it hinders the movement of the fingers. I have sometimes put my extra laptop next to the mouse pad so that it vents hot air on the mouse - and that works. However it is not very practical, plus it only works for one hand (and not very well).

    have a terminal server 2003 that about 50users can use, users are saving documents on the desktop, today users complain that documents on the desktop is missing, no upgrades or changes has been done the error is that the server reverted to load items the folder name "Desktop" instaed of using the local language "Skrivbord" (swedish for desktop) So the files are still on the server located under the users swedish folder name, but server does not load it, server however does load files located under the English folder name how can the terminal server from one day to another just change from where it loads the user profile desktop files?
