How do I send data between two computers over the internet

I have been struggling with this for the entire day now, I hope somebody can help me with this. My problem is fairly simple: I wish to transfer data (mostly simple commands) from one PC to another over the internet. I have been able to achieve this using sockets in Java when both computers are connected to my home router. I then connected both computers to the internet using two different mobile phones and attempted to transmit the data again. I used the mobile phones as this provides a direct route to the internet and if I use my router I have to set up port forwarding, at least, that is how I understand it. I think the problem lies in the method that I set up the client socket. I used: Socket kkSocket = new Socket(ipAddress, 3333); where ipAddress is the IP address of the computer running the server. I got the IP address by right-clicking on the connection, status, support. Is that the correct IP address to use or where can I obtain the address of the server? Also, is it possible to get a fixed name for my computer that I can use instead of entering the IP address, as this changes every time I connect to the internet using my mobile phone? Alternatively, are there better methods to solving my problem such as using http, and if so, where can I find more information about this? Thanks!

Coordinate system problem with the grid control

In my WPF application im trying to visualize some temperature data. I have a list of temperatures for the 7 past days and want to make a point to point line diagram. My problem is with the different koordinatesystems and adjusting data to the grid. How to i correct my application so the line always is centered? As it is now it starts out centeded but if i crank up the slider to 3-4 the line goes up and above the applicationwindow. I also would like to use the full height of the grid window not just a small piece like images below: http://img32.imageshack.us/i/002wtvu.jpg/ http://img691.imageshack.us/i/001tqco.jpg/ As you can see i have worked out my data so day 1 with temperature 62 F is lower then day 2 with temperature of 76 F but i have scaling issues and placementissues... could somebody straighten out my math? :-)

Get active window title in X

I'm trying to get the title of the active window. The application is a background task so if the user has Eclipse open the function returns "Eclipse - blabla", so it's not getting the window title of my own window. I'm developing this in Python 2.6 using PyQt4. cURL cookie negative cookie expire

I have problems with cookies with cURL. After problems I turned on verbose function and figured out cURL sets them negative expire date even if server sends positive date. Example: * Added cookie _c_sess=""test"" for domain test.com, path /, expire -1630024962 < Set-Cookie: _c_sess="test"; Domain=test.com; HttpOnly; expires=Mon, 26-Mar-2012 14:52:47 GMT; Max-Age=1332773567; Path=/ As you can see both expires and max-age are positive, but cURL sets expire to negative value. Somebody has idea? JQuery: Current, Well-Formatted, Printable Documentation?

Hi All, I'm looking for a current (1.2), well-formatted, printable version of the jQuery documentation. I've checked the alternative resources page and see the PDF versions from CF and Java, but both are out of date. The jQuery site has the API browser with "Printable Version" in the toolbox, but it prints terribly, and I don't really want to print one page or tab at a time. I have a hard time believing that there is no print doc for a tool this popular - all I want is a simple listing with descriptions and examples ON PAPER. Am I missing something? I can buy one of the books if I need to, but not sure which is for the current version. Thanks! Update: I can see that somebody voted this down. I know it's a pretty basic question, but it is not asked lightly or frivolously. I have made a pretty solid effort to find this on my own, and am pretty good at finding information when I need it. Perhaps the person who thought the question not worth asking knows where to find the print doc?

What is the best way to do scoped finds based on access control rules in Rails?

Hi I need to find an elegant solution to scoped finds based on access control rules. Essentially I have the following setup: Users Customers AccessControl - Defines which user has access to another users data Users need to be able to access not just their own customers but also shared customers of other users. Obviously something like a simple association will not work: has_many :customers and neither will this: has_many :customers, :conditions => 'user_id in (1,2,3,4,5)' because the association uses with_scope and the added condition is an AND condition not an OR condition. I also tried overriding the find and method_missing methods with the association extension like this: has_many :customers do def find(*args) #get the user_id and retrieve access conditions based on the id #do a find based on the access conditions and passed args end def method_missing(*args) #get the user_id and retrieve access conditions based on the id #do a find based on the access conditions and passed args end end but the issue is that I don't have access to the user object / parent object inside the extension methods and it just does not work as planned. I also tried default_scope but as posted here before you can't pass a block to a default scope. Anyhow, I know that data segmentation and data access controls have been done before using rails and am wondering if somebody found an elegant way to do it. UPDATE: The AccessControl table has the following layout user_id shared_user_id The customer table has this structure: id account_id user_id first_name last_name Assuming the the following data would be in the AccessControl table: 1 1 1 3 1 4 2 2 2 13 and so on... And the account_id for user 1 is 13 I need to be able to retrieve customers that can be best described with the following sql statement: select * from customers where (account_id = 13 and user_id = null) or (user_id in (1,3,4))

Search and Matching algorithm

Hello everyone. I am trying to come up with an algorithm to do the following: I have total 12 cells that I need to fill until program stops. I have 3 rows and each row has 4 columns. As an example, let me illustrate this as in airplane. So you have 3 rows and each row has 4 columns and you have window/aisle seats. Each row will have a window seat, aisle seat, aisle seat and window seat (|WA AW| Just like seat arrangement in airplane). At each iteration (different set of passengers), there would be some number of passengers (between 1 and 12) and I need to seat them closest together possible (Seat together). And I do this for next group (each iteration) until program stops (It will stop when I am done with every group). For example, I have 3 passengers (A,B,and C) and A wants to seat in Window, B wants to seat in Aisle and C wants to seat in Window. Assuming that all the seats (all 12) are available, I could place them like |A# BC| or |CB #A| and mark the seats dirty (so I don’t pick same seats again for next passengers). And I do this for next group (iteration). I am not sure if this right forum, but if somebody can advise me how I should accomplish, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

typeahead.js remote with subset matching

Instead of returning to the server after each additional letter is typed, I want it to only go to the server once, get all matching words, and filter the downloaded data after that. We are having trouble making this work. We are successfully using "remote" to wait until two letters are typed, but we can't get it to stop going to the server as additional letters are typed. Steps: 1. After two letters are typed, retrieve all matching words that start with those two letters. 2. When a third and additional letters are typed, don't go to the server again, just filter from the previous list that was sent. An example: "mo" is typed in. All 100 words that start with "mo" are returned. (Only 10 are shown.) "mor" - now with a third letter, we don't go back to the server. We just find the 20 words that match from within the previous set of words. Can anybody make this work? In real life (using YUI2), we do this and then go back to the server if somebody types in a space after the word. At that point, we know to retrieve additional words. Thanks!

Web Project for F#

I am building a project system for Visual Studio MVC web projects with controllers written in F#. It comes along pretty cool. I can build and run the apps, but I have a problem with FSharp Language Service. In the editor it shows the syntax colorization and diagnostic as it should. With one problem - it does not pick up project references. Even though during build it picks them up and successfully builds the project, on the screen it shows the objects/namespaces from the referenced assemblies/projects as unresolved. If somebody out here has some knowledge about integrating with F# Language service - please help me make it work In response to Tomas: The code for F# controllers is in the project file and as I already mentioned I can compile and run it. Originally we kept the F# code in a separate project and desire to get rid of this extra complexity is what prompted this project. It is not a ASP.MVC though it is Bistro MVC. Edit BistroMVC now solves this problem in the latest version of the Bistro Designer which is based on the F# project extender

Why does this code sample produce a memory leak?

In the university we were given the following code sample and we were being told, that there is a memory leak when running this code. The sample should demonstrate that this is a situation where the garbage collector can't work. As far as my object oriented programming goes, the only codeline able to create a memory leak would be items=Arrays.copyOf(items,2 * size+1); The documentation says, that the elements are copied. Does that mean the reference is copied (and therefore another entry on the heap is created) or the object itself is being copied? As far as I know, Object and therefore Object[] are implemented as a reference type. So assigning a new value to 'items' would allow the garbage collector to find that the old 'item' is no longer referenced and can therefore be collected. In my eyes, this the codesample does not produce a memory leak. Why does this log output show the same answer in each iteration?

OK, I was reading an article on optimising JS for Googles V8 engine, when i saw this code example... I nearly skimmed over it, but then I saw this; |=; a[0] |= b; a = new Array(); a[0] = 0; for (var b = 0; b < 10; b++) { console.log(a, b) a[0] |= b; // Much better! 2x faster. } a[0] |= b; So I ran it, in my console, with a console.log in the loop and resulted in 15; [15] 0 [15] 1 [15] 2 [15] 3 [15] 4 [15] 5 [15] 6 [15] 7 [15] 8 [15] 9 WHAT?!?! Where the hell does it get 15 from, on every iteration?!?!?! I've been a web dev for 7 years, and this has stumped me and a fellow colleague. Can somebody talk me through this code? Cheers.

Clarification on Threads and Run Loops In Cocoa

I'm trying to learn about threading and I'm thoroughly confused. I'm sure all the answers are there in the apple docs but I just found it really hard to breakdown and digest. Maybe somebody could clear a thing or 2 up for me. 1)performSelectorOnMainThread Does the above simply register an event in the main run loop or is it somehow a new thread even though the method says "mainThread"? If the purpose of threads is to relieve processing on the main thread how does this help? 2) RunLoops Is it true that if I want to create a completely seperate thread I use "detachNewThreadSelector"? Does calling start on this initiate a default run loop for the thread that has been created? If so where do run loops come into it? 3) And Finally , I've seen examples using NSOperationQueue. Is it true to say that If you use performSelectorOnMainThread the threads are in a queue anyway so NSOperation is not needed? 4) Should I forget about all of this and just use the Grand Central Dispatch instead?

The same as in tutorial. Just in case So the pivot table has name 'enrollment' and has 2 columns: page_id , menugroup_id I tried to add pk in pivot table, but it changed nothing I tried to add/remove db relation between pages/menugroups and pivot table (InnoDB) but with no luck I tried save all data in controller, but with the same bad result:( I am still getting the same error: Undefined index: enrollment in ORM line: $columns = array($this-_has_many[$alias]['foreign_key'], $this-_has_many[$alias]['far_key']); Could somebody tell me, what can be else wrong? Any guidelines for handling the Headset and Bluetooth AVRC transport controls in Android 2.2

I am trying to figure out what is the correct (new) approach for handling the Intent.ACTION_MEDIA_BUTTON in Froyo. In pre 2.2 days we had to register a BroadcastReceiver (either permanently or at run-time) and the Media Button events would arrive, as long as no other application intercepts them and aborts the broadcast. Froyo seems to still somewhat support that model (at least for the wired headset), but it also introduces the registerMediaButtonEventReceiver, and unregisterMediaButtonEventReceiver methods that seem to control the "transport focus" between applications. During my experiments, using registerMediaButtonEventReceiver does cause both the bluetooth and the wired headset button presses to be routed to the application's broadcast receiver (the app gets the "transport focus"), but it looks like any change in the audio routing (for example unplugging the headset) shits the focus back to the default media player. What is the logic behind the implementation in Android 2.2? What is correct way to handle transport controls? Do we have to detect the change in the audio routing and try to re-gain the focus? This is an issue that any 3rd party media player on the Android platform has to deal with, so I hope that somebody (probably a Google Engineer) can provide some guidelines that we can all follow. Having a standard approach may make headset button controls a bit more predictable for the end users. Stefan

Cannot change font size /type in plots

I recently had to re-install my operating system (Ubuntu). The only thing I did differently is that I installed Matlab on a separate partition, not the main Ubuntu partition. After re-installing, the fonts in my plots are no longer configurable. For example, if I ask the title font to be bold, it doesn't happen. I ran the sample code below on my computer and then on my colleague's computer and the 2 results are attached. This cannot be a problem with the code; rather in the settings of Matlab. Could somebody please tell me what settings I need to change? Thanks in advance for your help. Javascript: click and dblclick deliver different parentNodes on same html. Why?

currently I work on an very small wysiwyg editor based on jquery. I dont care about IE oder Chrome, just Firefox. My problem is to find if the selection is in a link for to get the value of the href attribute if is set. With click the node of the link is found, with double click always the body. It is in designMode. My event-handler for click and dblclick. The vars current_selection, current_node, iframe and container are global. selection_handler:function() { current_selection = iframe.getSelection(); current_node = current_selection.anchorNode; if(current_node.nodeName == "#text") { current_node = current_node.parentNode; } $('#log').text(current_node.nodeName); }, The log shows mit for example 'body', when I click in unformated text. When I add a link with execCommand('createLink',...) the log shows 'A'. That works. When I mark the linked word with 2 click from start to end, the log shows 'A'. But with double click I always get 'body'. So I can't get the href attribute. The handler is defined in the init: init:function(options) { ... iframe = $('#wysiwyg-'+container.attr('id'))[0].contentWindow; iframe.addEventListener('dblclick',methods.selection_handler,false); iframe.addEventListener('click',methods.selection_handler,false); ... } Has somebody an idea what is wrong?

How to join multiple tables using LINQ-to-SQL?

Hi! I'm quite new to linq, so please bear with me. I'm working on a asp.net webpage and I want to add a "search function" (textbox where user inputs name or surname or both or just parts of it and gets back all related information). I have two tables ("Person" and "Application") and I want to display some columns from Person (name and surname) and some from Application (score, position,...). I know how I could do it using sql, but I want to learn more about linq and thus I want to do it using linq. I really want to know how to do such things using linq as I'll be dealing also with some similar problems with local data, where I can use only linq. jQuery - Compatibility Problem with Internet Explorer 7 and Opera

Matrix multiplication using pairs

Hi, I am looking into alternate ways to do a Matrix Multiplication. Instead of storing my matrix as a two-dimensional array, I am using a vector such as vector<pair<pair<int,int >,int > > to store my matrix. The pair within my pair (pair) stores my indices (i,j) and the other int stores the value for the given (i,j) pair. I thought I might have some luck implementing my sparse array this way. The problem is when I try to multiply this matrix with itself. If this was a 2-d array implementation, I would have multiplied the matrix as follows: for(i=0; i<row1; i++) { for(j=0; j<col1; j++) { C[i][j] = 0; for(k=0; k<col2; k++) C[i][j] += A[i][j] * A[j][k]; } } Can somebody point out a way to achieve the same result using my vector of 'pair of pairs'?
