  Quite a long ago I wrote about a SQL Server programming tip on how to extract date part from a DATETIME column. The post discusses about using of T SQL function convert() to get date part. One of the readers of the post, tipped me about a better way of extracting date part and here is the SQL query he sent to us SELECT DateAdd(day, DateDiff(day, 0, getdate()), 0); In clean way this query trims off time part from the DATETIME value. I rate this solution better than the one I wrote long ago as this one does not depend on any string operations. According the commenter, this method is faster compared to the other. What do you say?   Here's the deal, we have a big JS library that we want to compress, but YUI compressor doesn't fully compress the code if it finds an "eval" statement, out of fear that it will break something else. That's great and all, but we know exactly what is getting eval'd, so we don't want it to get conservative because there's an eval statement in MooTools JSON.decode So basically the question is, is there any alternative (maybe creative) way of writing a expression that returns the eval function? • MikTeX 2.8 doesn't add hyphenation support for pdfLaTeX

  I'm using MikTeX 2.8 edition, and installed the hungarian language support and hyphenation files. Using the standard LaTeX command they work fine, but when I try to use pdfLaTeX, they don't get loaded and I get the (C:\stuff\miktex\tex\generic\babel\magyar.ldf (C:\stuff\miktex\tex\generic\babel\babel.def) Package babel /b/c12/cWarning:/b/c0/c No hyphenation patterns were loaded for (babel) the language `Magyar' (babel) I will use the patterns loaded for \language=0 instead. message. Using latex it works fine: (C:\stuff\miktex\tex\latex\00miktex\bblopts.cfg) (C:\stuff\miktex\tex\generic\babel\magyar.ldf (C:\stuff\miktex\tex\generic\babel\babel.def))) I tried updating the FNDB and the Formats, but to no avail. I suspect I can do this with sed but I am not sure how. I know I can modify the stuff in between with this: sed "/SUMMARY/,/END OF SUMMARY/ s/replace/with/" fileName (But not sure how to just extract that stuff). I am Bash on Solaris.

  im having a weird problem with one variable: its not being recognized but its still printing. i would post my code, but it is massive. the basic idea is: # pseudocode def function(stuff): <do stuff> # These are the only 2 conditions if tag == 3: pka = <a string> if tag == 4: pka = <a string> print pka # (1) print pka # (2) <do stuff not modifying pka> print pka # (3) if pka == 'RSA': <do stuff> elif pka == 'DSA': <do stuff> my code will error at (2). however, it will print out (1), (2), and (3), all of which are the same. is there any general explanation of why this is happening? if my code is really needed, i will post it, but otherwise, i would rather not due to its size update: now the code will error at the if statement after (3), saying UnboundLocalError: local variable 'pka' referenced before assignment even though (1),(2),(3) just printed

I feel like I'm missing something obvious here, but I just can't seem to figure it out why I can't get the right data out. Could someone point me in the right direction or show me what I'm doing wrong here? Am I using a model for the wrong thing?

I have chosen one to use for my project and am wondering if I can create an instance and add stuff to it and keep it contained (within braces). Consider the following: function BaseClass(){ <this.stuff here> } function SubClass(){ this.superClass = BaseClass(); this.superClass(); <this.other stuff here> } myObj = new SubClass(); so myObj is an instance of SubClass. I can add things to myObj like: myObj.blah = "funtimes"; What I would like is to be able to add stuff to the "instance" and keep it organized in braces much like the constructor. psuedo code like: myObj = new SubClass() { var blah = "funtimes" <more instance specific stuff here> } Is something like this possible? • Router not connecting to the internet

  I had a weird problem this morning with my router - it's an Alice Gate VoIP 2 Plus WI-FI - not connecting to the internet after more or less 1 hour online (I'm always connected with the ethernet cable). The led status lights for Power, WI-FI, ADSL, Internet, Service should be on in order to be connected and navigate online. The problem was that the leds ADSL, Internet were off and I did not know why because it never happened before. I looked at the stats in the settings and the numbers for Bytes/Packages for both Sent/Received were there and increasing but I couldn't connect to the internet. I called tech support, they checked and told me to keep the router on for 48 hours because they were checking it. I've reset it twice before and after I called tech support and it still did not work so after about 2 hours of waiting I tried connecting using WI-FI and the leds 'magically' turned on, first the ADSL and Internet(Internet led always turns on last). At this point I'm curious what could of caused this and I'm doubting that the tech-support guys did something. What could of been the problem with the ethernet cable not connecting in the first place? It always works. What do the tech support guys normally do when they tell me to keep the router on so they can 'check it'? PS: I'm using ubuntu 32 bit

  Aircel, one of the leading wireless mobile services provider of India has just announced that iPhone 4S will be available to its customers on November 25. You can start pre-booking the phone from November 18 through Aircel website or walking into an Aircel showroom near you. My multiple calls to Aircel customer care division were no use to get the details on the price information. Three times the call got disconnected before a customer care executive tried fetching the details on price and models. We hear from BGR India blog that iPhone 4S price is going start at Rs. 40,000 for a 16GB model and may go up to Rs. 50,000 for a 64 GB model. Airtel, another leading mobile service provider in India, who sells iPhone in India is not sure when they are going to start offering iPhone 4S to its customer. I reached customer care regarding the iPhone 4S and they don’t have any details to offer at the moment. It’s good to see Apple releasing iPhone 4S to India markets just after couple of months of International release. Apple was earlier criticized for releasing iPhone 2, iPhone 3G in India almost an year after the international launch while companies like Nokia release their flagship models just after weeks of international launch. One of the most sought after feature of iPhone 4S is Siri and my friends in US told that it works amazingly good. Siri does not have any problem in understanding Indian English accent and it is very good at recognizing the Indian names in contacts list. But at the same time we do hear reports that Siri does not help much if it’s used outside USA. Considering that Siri is a software it should be possible for Apple to improve it to work better outside USA. But who know the priorities of Apple! • Steve Jobs Proposes New Apple Campus.It’s As Beautiful As An iPad.

  After the launch of iOS 5, OS X Lion and iCloud Steve Jobs proposed Apple’s plans for construction of a new campus in Cupertino. In a presentation to Cupertino City Council, Steve proposed to construct a spaceship style beautiful building that can house 12000 employees. Apple recently purchased 150 acres of land from HP and others in Cupertino and this land will be used for their new campus. The architectural design of the new campus looks awesome just like their products: iPad / iPhone.It’s a four storied circular building with all curved glasses that can accommodate 12000 employees.,  “We do have a shot at building the best office building in the world,” Jobs told the Council members, “Architecture students will come here to see this.”. The facility is going to be eco-friendly with 80% of landscaping with most of the parking going to underground. The current campus has 3700 trees and Apple is planning to increase them to 6000 trees. The campus will be powered with its own renewable energy source and electric grid as backup. Steve described It’s a pretty amazing building. It’s a little like a spaceship landed.
