  • What is the most compatible, widely used production language to export knowledge and skills gained from Haskell?

    - by World Engineer
I like Haskell, plain and simple. While Haskell is used in production software, it's not especially widely deployed from what I've seen. What is the most similar and still widely used language in regards to production projects so that I might have a snowball's chance of using something similarly awesome in industry? Also is the same language from the first part available on large numbers of platforms? If not, what is the best alternative that has wide platform deployment? I'd like a single language to put on my to-do list rather than a massive swarm or family. Hard evidence would be a plus.

  • why do we need advanced knowledge of mathematics & physics for programming?

    - by Sumeet
Guys, I have been very good in mathematics and physics in my schools and colleges. Right now I am a programmer. Even in the colleges I have to engrossed my self into computers and programming things all the time. As I used to like it very much. But I have always felt the lack of advanced mathematics and physics in all the work I have done (Programs). Programming never asked me any advanced mathematics and physics knowledge in what I was very good. It always ask u some optimized loops, and different programming technologies which has never been covered in advanced mathematics and physics. Even at the time of selection in big College , such a kind of advanced knowledge is required. Time by time I got out of touch of all that facts and concepts (advanced mathematics and physics). And now after, 5 years in job I found it hard to resolve Differentiations and integrations from Trigonometry. Which sometimes make me feel like I have wasted time in those concepts because they are never used. (At that time I knew that I am going to be a programmer) If one need to be a programmer why do all this advanced knowledge is required. One can go with elementry knowledge a bit more. You never got to think like scientists and R&D person in your Schols and colleges for being a programmer? Just think and let me know your thoughts. I must be wrong somewhere in what I think , but not able to figure that out..? Regards Sumeet

  • How to get a clipboard paste notification and provide my own data?

    - by Uwe Keim
For a small utility I am writing (.NET, C#), I want to monitor clipboard copy operations and clipboard paste operations. My idea is to provide my own data when pasting into an arbitrary application. The monitoring of a copy operation can be easily done by using a clipboard viewer. Something that seems much more advanced to me is to write a "clipboard paste provider": Answer to "what formats are available" queries of applications. Supply data to application paste operations. I found this posting and this posting, but none of them seems to really help me. What I guess is that I somehow have to mimic/hijack the current clipboard. Question: Is it possible to "wrap" the clipboard in terms of paste operations and provide my own kind of "clipboard proxy"? Thanks Uwe

  • Calling assignment operator in copy constructor

    - by stas
Are there some drawbacks of such implementation of copy-constructor? Foo::Foo(const Foo& i_foo) { *this = i_foo; } As I remember, it was recommend in some book to call copy constructor from assignment operator and use well-known swap trick, but I don't remember, why...

  • behaviour of the implicit copy constructor / assignment operator

    - by Tobias Langner
Hello, I have a question regarding the C++ Standard. Suppose you have a base class with user defined copy constructor and assignment operator. The derived class uses the implicit one generated by the compiler. Does copying / assignment of the derived class call the user defined copy constructor / assignment operator? Or do you need to implement user defined versions that call the base class? Thank you for your help.

  • How to copy .java sources to Ant javac destFolder

    - by Ittai
Hi, I know how to use Ant to copy files and folders but what I'm interested in is if, and how, I can have the javac task copy the same sources it's compiling to the output directory. Basically, it's very similar to the option to include your sources in the jar task. Thanks in advance, Ittai

  • I need to copy only selected files and folders in PHP

    - by OM The Eternity
    I am using the following code, in which initially i am taking the difference of two folder structure and then the out put needs to be copied to other folder. here is the code below.. $source = '/var/www/html/copy1'; $mirror = '/var/www/html/copy2'; function scan_dir_recursive($dir, $rel = null) { $all_paths = array(); $new_paths = scandir($dir); foreach ($new_paths as $path) { if ($path == '.' || $path == '..') { continue; } if ($rel === null) { $path_with_rel = $path; } else { $path_with_rel = $rel .   • Is “Application Programming Interface” a bad name?

    - by Taylor Hawkes
Application programming interface seems like a bad name for what it is. Is there a reason it was named such? I understand that people used to call them Advanced Programming Interfaces and then renamed to Application Programming Interface. Is that why it is poorly named? Why is it not named Application (to) Programmer Interface. I guess I'm just confused of the meaning behind that name? I write more about my confusion around the name here: BREAKING DOWN THE WORD “APPLICATION PROGRAMMING INTERFACE” This is a very confusing word. We mostly understand what the word Interface means, but “Application Programming”, what even is that. Honestly I'm confused. Is that suppose to be two words like “Application”, “Programming” and then the “Interface” is suppose to mean between the two? Like would a “Computer Human Interface” be an interface between a “Computer” and a “Human” (monitor , keyboard, mouse ) or is a “Computer Human” a real thing - perhaps the terminator. So a CHI is our boy Kyle Reese who is the only way we are able to work with the computer human. I think more likely “Application Programming Interface” was simply poorly named and doesn't really make sense. It was originally called an “Advanced Programming Interface” , but perhaps being a bit to ostentatious merged into the now wildly accepted “Application Programming Interface”. So now, not wanting to change an acronym has confused the living heck out everyone.... Any thoughts or clarification would be great, I'm giving a lecture on this topic in a month, so I would prefer not to BS my way through it.

  • Vim (terminal) - copy to x clipboard and paste while suspeneded

    - by gmatt
I have vimx installed, so I can copy in vimx to the x clipboard by using "+y and the like, which works well as long as I can keep the current vimx running. However, I also love to be able to switch to the current running shell with ctrl-z and be able to paste what I copied from vim into the shell. Does anyone know how to do this, because as soon as I suspend vim with ctr-z the x-clipboard becomes empty, until I put vim into the fg again.

  • copy entire row (without knowing field names)

    - by Todd Webb
Using SQL Server 2008, I would like to duplicate one row of a table, without knowing the field names. My key issue: as the table grows and mutates over time, I would like this copy-script to keep working, without me having to write out 30+ ever-changing fields, ugh. Also at issue, of course, is IDENTITY fields cannot be copied. My code below does work, but I wonder if there's a more appropriate method than my thrown-together text string SQL statement? So thank you in advance. Here's my (yes, working) code - I welcome suggestions on improving it. Todd alter procedure spEventCopy @EventID int as begin -- VARS... declare @SQL varchar(8000) -- LIST ALL FIELDS (*EXCLUDE* IDENTITY FIELDS). -- USE [BRACKETS] FOR ANY SILLY FIELD-NAMES WITH SPACES, OR RESERVED WORDS... select @SQL = coalesce(@SQL + ', ', '') + '[' + column_name + ']' from INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS where TABLE_NAME = 'EventsTable' and COLUMNPROPERTY(OBJECT_ID('EventsTable'), COLUMN_NAME, 'IsIdentity') = 0 -- FINISH SQL COPY STATEMENT... set @SQL = 'insert into EventsTable ' + ' select ' + @SQL + ' from EventsTable ' + ' where EventID = ' + ltrim(str(@EventID)) -- COPY ROW... exec(@SQL) -- REMEMBER NEW ID... set @EventID = @@IDENTITY -- (do other stuff here) -- DONE... -- JUST FOR KICKS, RETURN THE SQL STATEMENT SO I CAN REVIEW IT IF I WISH... select EventID = @EventID, SQL = @SQL end

  • How do I copy files repository to new folder with PHP

    - by dcp3450
I have a folder named "repository" in my admin folders. This folder holds 2 files: index.html and content.php. When a user creates a new page the php creates a new folder specified by the user then will need to copy the two files into that folder while leaving them in the repository. copy(file, dest) does not work. rename(file, dest) moves the files to the new folder but I lose them in the repository. How do I copy the files in one folder to the new folder without losing the files in the original folder? $dest = '../'.$menuLocation.'/'.$pageName; $file1= "repository/index.html"; $file2= "repository/content.php"; mkdir($dest,0777); rename($file1,$dest.'/index.html'); rename($file2,$dest.'/content.php'); $menuLocation and $pageName are supplied by the user. The files are there, file_exists returns back true. Also, the directory is created with no issues. rename() also works I just lose the files in repository.

  • Copy only files that are newer

    - by ErocM
I am currently using this code: if (!Directory.Exists(command2)) Directory.CreateDirectory(command2); if (Directory.Exists(vmdaydir)) Directory.Delete(vmdaydir, true); if (!Directory.Exists(vmdaydir)) Directory.CreateDirectory(vmdaydir); var dir = Path.GetDirectoryName(args[0]); sb.AppendLine("Backing Up VM: " + DateTime.Now.ToString(CultureInfo.InvariantCulture)); Microsoft.VisualBasic.FileIO.FileSystem.CopyDirectory(dir, vmdaydir); sb.AppendLine("VM Backed Up: " + DateTime.Now.ToString(CultureInfo.InvariantCulture)); As you can see, I am deleting the directory, then I am copying the folder back. This is taking way to long since the directory is ~80gb in size. I realized that I do not need to copy all the files, only the ones that have changed. How would I copy the files from one folder to another but only copying the files that are newer? Anyone have any suggestions? ==== edit ==== I assume I can just do a file compare of each file and then copy it to the new directory, iterating through each folder/file? Is there a simpler way to do this?
