• Convert XMLDocument to String

  Here is how I'm currently converting XMLDocument to String StringWriter stringWriter = new StringWriter(); XmlTextWriter xmlTextWriter = new XmlTextWriter(stringWriter); xmlDoc.WriteTo(xmlTextWriter); return stringWriter.ToString(); The problem with this method is that if I have " ((quotes) which I have in attributes) it escapes them. For Instance: <Campaign name="ABC"> </Campaign> Above is the expected XML. But it returns <Campaign name=\"ABC\"> </Campaign> I can do String.Replace "\" but is that method okay? Are there any side-effects? Will it work fine if the XML itself contains a "\"

• URLScan and percent signs

  So I just ran into a stupid problem in which users could not download files that had a percent sign in it. It wound up being URLScan. I had to un-set two things in urlscan.ini: 1) Set VerifyNormalization to 0 (disabled) 2) Remove the percent sign from the "DenyUrlSequences" section Do an iisreset, and it problem solved. But the big question is: How much of a security risk is this?

• How (and where) to get aligned tRNA sequences (and import it into R)

  (This is a database / R commands question) I wish (for my thesis work), to import tRNA data into R and have it aligned. My questions are: 1) What resources can I use for the data. 2) What commands might help me with the import/alignment. • Changing the x-axis of seqlogo figures in matlab

  I'm making a large number of seqlogos programatically. They are hundreds of columns wide and so running a seqlogo normally creates letters that are too thin to see. I've noticed that I only care about a few of these columns (not necessarily consecutive columns) ... most are noise but some are highly conserved. I use something like this snippet: conserve_cell = seqlogo(wide_seqs, 'displaylogo', false); high_bit_cols = any(conserve_cell{2}>1.0,1); [~, handle] = seqlogo(wide_seqs(:,high_bit_cols )); Although when I do this I lose the information about which columns the data came from. Normally I would just change the x-axis of the seqlogo. However, seqlogo's are some sort of crazy java-based object and calls like: set(handle, 'xticklabel', num2str(find(high_bit_cols))) don't work. I have two SQL statements: - the first enters information from a form into the database. - the second takes data from the database entered above, sends an email and then logs the details of the transaction The problem is that it a appears that a single quote is triggering a MySQL error on the second entry only!!! The first instance works without issue but the second instance triggers the mysql_error(). Does the data from a form get handled differently from the data captured in a form? • Event Tracking

  I want to understand event cycles. I have a form with a grid and textboxes. It has a grid, bound to DataTable, and textboxes bound to same table too. I'm trying to debug something and need to know how to identify ALL events fired in the form to see what may solve an issue for me. Anyhow, unless I explicitly subclass every class on my form, and override / attach to every event to my own event handlers, how can I get / listen to all events being fired during a certain action... Such as changing a "Selected" road in a DataGridView. It obviously updates its own "CurrentRow"... I need to know what / how to maybe FORCE a re-loading of SAME CurrentRow. Reason: during a form level "Edit Mode", and I change the content in another "Textbox" control, and reject changes, I need it to simulate the current "Record" is reloaded to go back to its original values.

  Hi I've never read COBOL in my life and have been tasked with rewriting the old COBOL code in a new language. Are there any free or free-to-try software packages out there that will generate a flow chart for a COBOL program? I've looked at "Visustin" and "Code Visual to Flowchart" Visustin blanks out part of the code and does random rotations in the demo version, which causes the demo to be less accurate. I couldn't get Code Visual Flow Chart to work correctly with our code. Know of any other packages I might try?

• Dollar ($) sign in password string treated as variable

  Spent some time troubleshooting a problem whereby a PHP/MySQL web application was having problems connecting to the database. The database could be accessed from the shell and phpMyAdmin with the exact same credentials and it didn't make sense. Turns out the password had a $ sign in it: $_DB["password"] = "mypas$word"; The password being sent was "mypas" which is obviously wrong. What's the best way to handle this problem? I escaped the $ with a \ $_DB["password"] = "mypas\$word"; and it worked. I generally use $string = 'test' for strings which is probably how I avoided running into this before. Is this correct behavious? What if this password was stored in a database and PHP pulled it out - would this same problem occur? What am I missing here...

  I know that cons returns a seq and conj returns a collection. I also know that conj "adds" the item to the optimal end of the collection, and cons always "adds" the item to the front. This example illustrates both of these points: user=> (conj [1 2 3] 4) //returns a collection [1 2 3 4] user=> (cons 4 [1 2 3]) //returns a seq (4 1 2 3) For vectors, maps, and sets these differences make sense to me. However, for lists they seem identical. user=> (conj '(3 2 1) 4) (4 3 2 1) user=> (cons 4 '(3 2 1)) (4 3 2 1) Are there any examples using lists where conj vs. cons exhibit different behaviors, or are they truly interchangeable? Phrased differently, is there an example where a list and a seq cannot be used equivalently?

• Ruby -- looking for some sort of "Regexp unescape" method

  I have a bunch of strings that appear to have been double-escaped -- eg, I have "\\014\"\\000\"\\016smoothing\"\\011mean\"\\022color\"\\011zero@\\016" but I want "\014"\000"\016smoothing"\011mean"\022color"\011zero@\016" Is there a method I can use to unescape them? I imagine that I could make a regex to remove 1 backslash from every consecutive n backslashes, but I don't have a lot of regex experience and it seems there ought to be a "more elegant" way to do it. For example, when I puts MyString it displays the output I'd like, but I don't know how I might capture that into a variable. Thanks! Edited to add context: I have this class that is being used to marshal / restore some stuff, but when I restore some old strings it spits out a type error which I've determined is because they weren't -- for some inexplicable reason -- stored as base64. • windows C system call with spaces in command

  I cannot make system calls with spaces in the names and parameters. For example: system("c:\program files\something\example.exe c:\my files\example.txt"); I have tried escaping in every way I know how, and NOTHING works. I have tried: system("\"c:\program files\something\example.exe\" \"c:\my files\example.txt\""); and system("c:\program^ files\something\example.exe c:\my^ files\example.txt"); Neither work. I still get 'c:\program' is not a recongnised internal or external command This is really driving me mad... I need to call and pass parameters that have spaces in them. I cannot use the short notation for reasons I won't go into. I have tried with ' quotes instead of " quotes, still doesn't work. I have tried putting quotes around the whole thing and quotes around the spaces and that doesn't work. Does anyone know how to do it properly?

• Java: Ignoring escapes when parsing XML

  I'm using a DocumentBuilder to parse XML files. However, the specification for the project requires that within text nodes, strings like " and < be returned literally, and not turned into the corresponding ASCII values. A previous similar question, http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1979785/read-escaped-quote-as-escaped-quote-from-xml, received one answer that seems to be specific to Apache, and another that appears to simply not not do what it says it does. • mysql_real_escape_string is storing the data in the database along with backslashes

  When i am using mysql_real_escape_string on my unescaped strings the data in the database is storing with the backslashes which should not happen. I have magic_quotes_gpc OFF not sure why this is happening. Any idea ? Is there any setting in the mysql database which needs to be modified. I am not using addslashes any where in the code. PHP language. Please help.

• Problem when reading backslash in Prolog

  I'm writing a lexer in Prolog which will be used as a part of functional language interpreter. Language spec allows expressions like for example let \x = x + 2; to occur. What I want lexer to do for such input is to "return": [tokLet, tokLambda, tokVar(x), tokEq, tokVar(x), tokPlus, tokNumber(2), tokSColon] and the problem is, that Prolog seems to ignore the \ character and "returns" the line written above except for tokLambda. One approach to solve this would be to somehow add second backslash before/after every occurrence of one in the program code (because everything works fine if I change the original input to let \\x = x + 2;) but I don't really like it. Any ideas?
