  • An array of structures in C...

    - by 00010000
    For the life of me I can't figure out the proper syntax for creating an array of structures in C. I tried this: struct foo { int x; int y; } foo[][] = { { { 1, 2 }, { 4, 5 }, { -1, -1 } }, { { 55, 44 } { 100, 200 }, } }; So for example foo[1][0].x == 100, foo[0][1].y == 5, etc. But GCC spits out a lot of errors. If anyone could provide the proper syntax that'd be great. EDIT: Okay, I tried this: struct foo { const char *x; int y; }; struct foo bar[2][] = { { { "A", 1 }, { "B", 2 }, { NULL, -1 }, }, { { "AA", 11 }, { "BB", 22 }, { NULL, -1 }, }, { { "ZZ", 11 }, { "YY", 22 }, { NULL, -1 }, }, { { "XX", 11 }, { "UU", 22 }, { NULL, -1 }, }, }; But GCC gives me "elements of array bar have incomplete type" and "excess elements in array initializer".

  • Ping, firewall or DNS problem on Win Server 2008 R2

    - by Fred Kaiser
    Hi there, I've installed windows server 2008 as a VM for the developers here to work on. Installed SQL Server 2008 as well as IIS7. I am not quite sure why, I can remote into that machine using the name I gave to it (winserverdev) but the guys that are supposed to use the bloody thing can't. One very interesting thing is that I can connect but I can't ping... not the name nor the IP address. Is there anything that I should be looking in order to make it work? Any ideas are welcome. Thanks heaps in advance, I really appreciate it. Cheers, Fred Kaiser

  • Inserting a very long Excel table into Word

    - by Fred
    I have a very long excel (2003) s/sheet with in excess of 600 rows that I want to paste into an MS Word document (also 2003). However, I want to ensure that: 1) The header row appears automatically at the top of each page. 2) The s/sheet automatically formats to the correct page width (the one I have is slightly wider than my Word page). This can obviously be done manually by cutting and pasting each page seperately but this is very laborious and time consuming and I once saw somebody achieve this automatically (maybe with a macro) but have been unable to locate them, or the methodology. Can anyone please assist? Thanks in advance, Fred.

  • Microsoft’s 22tracks Music Service now Available in All Browsers

    - by Akemi Iwaya
    Are you tired of listening to the same old music and looking for something new to listen to? Then 22tracks from Microsoft is definitely worth a look! This online music service is available in your favorite browser, does not require an account to use, and lets you listen to music from multiple international sources! If you are curious about 22tracks, then the following excerpt and video sum up the service very nicely. From the blog post: The concept behind 22tracks is simple: 22 local top DJs from cities like Amsterdam, Brussels, London and Paris share their genre’s 22 hottest tracks of the moment. Each city boosts its own team of specialized DJs bringing you the newest tracks in their genre. When you get ready to select (or change to) another set of tracks, just click on the desired city at the top of the browser window, then click on the appropriate set from the drop-down list. 22tracks Homepage 22tracks and Internet Explorer team up to bring you a completely new online music experience [22tracks Blog] 22tracks about [YouTube] [via BetaNews and The Next Web]

  • Fixing predicated NSFetchedResultsController/NSFetchRequest performance with SQLite backend?

    - by Jaanus
    I have a series of NSFetchedResultsControllers powering some table views, and their performance on device was abysmal, on the order of seconds. Since it all runs on main thread, it's blocking my app at startup, which is not great. I investigated and turns out the predicate is the problem: NSPredicate *somePredicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"ANY somethings == %@", something]; [fetchRequest setPredicate:somePredicate]; I.e the fetch entity, call it "things", has a many-to-many relation with entity "something". This predicate is a filter that limits the results to only things that have a relation with a particular "something". When I removed the predicate for testing, fetch time (the initial performFetch: call) dropped (for some extreme cases) from 4 seconds to around 100ms or less, which is acceptable. I am troubled by this, though, as it negates a lot of the benefit I was hoping to gain with Core Data and NSFRC, which otherwise seems like a powerful tool. So, my question is, how can I optimize this performance? Am I using the predicate wrong? Should I modify the model/schema somehow? And what other ways there are to fix this? Is this kind of degraded performance to be expected? (There are on the order of hundreds of <1KB objects.) EDIT WITH DETAILS: Here's the code: [fetchRequest setFetchLimit:200]; NSLog(@"before fetch"); BOOL success = [frc performFetch:&error]; if (!success) { NSLog(@"Fetch request error: %@", error); } NSLog(@"after fetch"); Updated logs (previously, I had some application inefficiencies degrading the performance here. These are the updated logs that should be as close to optimal as you can get under my current environment): 2010-02-05 12:45:22.138 Special Ppl[429:207] before fetch 2010-02-05 12:45:22.144 Special Ppl[429:207] CoreData: sql: SELECT DISTINCT 0, t0.Z_PK, t0.Z_OPT, <model fields> FROM ZTHING t0 LEFT OUTER JOIN Z_1THINGS t1 ON t0.Z_PK = t1.Z_2THINGS WHERE t1.Z_1SOMETHINGS = ? (Apart from going to a binary store where this becomes a non-issue, so I might do that. Binary store performance is consistently ~100ms for the above 200-object predicated query.) (I nested another question here previously, which I now moved away).

  • Automapper: Handling NULL members

    - by PSteele
    A question about null members came up on the Automapper mailing list.  While the problem wasn’t with Automapper, investigating the issue led to an interesting feature in Automapper. Normally, Automapper ignores null members.  After all, what is there really to do?  Imagine these source classes: public class Source { public int Data { get; set; } public Address Address { get; set; } }   public class Destination { public string Data { get; set; } public Address Address { get; set; } }   public class Address { public string AddressType { get; set; } public string Location { get; set; } } And imagine a simple mapping example with these classes: Mapper.CreateMap<Source, Destination>();   var source = new Source { Data = 22, Address = new Address { AddressType = "Home", Location = "Michigan", }, };   var dest = Mapper.Map<Source, Destination>(source); The variable ‘dest’ would have a complete mapping of the Data member and the Address member. But what if the source had no address? Mapper.CreateMap<Source, Destination>();   var source = new Source { Data = 22, };   var dest = Mapper.Map<Source, Destination>(source); In that case, Automapper would just leave the Destination.Address member null as well.  But what if we always wanted an Address defined – even if it’s just got some default data?  Use the “NullSubstitute” option: Mapper.CreateMap<Source, Destination>() .ForMember(d => d.Address, o => o.NullSubstitute(new Address { AddressType = "Unknown", Location = "Unknown", }));   var source = new Source { Data = 22, };   var dest = Mapper.Map<Source, Destination>(source); Now, the ‘dest’ variable will have an Address defined with a type and location of “Unknown”.  Very handy! - by Brian
    I'm attempting to extract a given pattern within a text file, however, the results are not 100% what I want. Here's my code: import java.util.regex.Matcher; import java.util.regex.Pattern; public class ParseText1 { public static void main(String[] args) { String content = "<p>Yada yada yada <code> foo ddd</code>yada yada ...\n" + "more here <2004-08-24> bar<Bob Joe> etc etc\n" + "more here again <2004-09-24> bar<Bob Joe> <Fred Kej> etc etc\n" + "more here again <2004-08-24> bar<Bob Joe><Fred Kej> etc etc\n" + "and still more <2004-08-21><2004-08-21> baz <John Doe> and now <code>the end</code> </p>\n"; Pattern p = Pattern .compile("<[1234567890]{4}-[1234567890]{2}-[1234567890]{2}>.*?<[^%0-9/]*>", Pattern.MULTILINE); Matcher m = p.matcher(content); // print all the matches that we find while (m.find()) { System.out.println(m.group()); } } } The output I'm getting is: <2004-08-24> bar<Bob Joe> <2004-09-24> bar<Bob Joe> <Fred Kej> <2004-08-24> bar<Bob Joe><Fred Kej> <2004-08-21><2004-08-21> baz <John Doe> and now <code> The output I want is: <2004-08-24> bar<Bob Joe> <2004-08-24> bar<Bob Joe> <2004-08-24> bar<Bob Joe> <2004-08-21> baz <John Doe> In short, the sequence of "date", "text (or blank)", and "name" must be extracted. Everything else should be avoided. For example the tag "Fred Kej" did not have any "date" tag before it, therefore, it should be flagged as invalid. Also, as a side question, is there a way to store or track the text snippets that were skipped/rejected as were the valid texts. Thanks, Brian

  • Poor upload/download speed on 2 x ADSL lines into a Cisco 2621XM

    - by 2020mobile
    Hi, Sorry never been on this site before so I apologise if not the right section or even forum. I have users complaining of very slow internetn connectivity on site and have checked with our ISP who have said that the line is testing at 8mb. We have 2 x BT lines that have our ISP broadand on them. Both lines go into a Cisco 2600 series router that then has a PIX firewall off that. Connectivity is successful just gone really slow and unable to download anything. Config is below: version 12.3 no service pad service tcp-keepalives-in service tcp-keepalives-out service timestamps debug datetime msec service timestamps log datetime msec service password-encryption ! hostname ROUTER-ADSL-INTERNET ! logging buffered 16384 informational enable secret xxx enable password xxx ! username xxx username xxx clock summer-time UK recurring last Sun Mar 1:00 last Sun Oct 1:00 aaa new-model ! ! aaa authentication login default local aaa authorization exec default local aaa session-id common ip subnet-zero no ip source-route ! ! ! ip audit notify log ip audit po max-events 100 no ip bootp server ip name-server 213.208.106.212 no mpls ldp logging neighbor-changes no ftp-server write-enable ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! no voice hpi capture buffer no voice hpi capture destination ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! interface ATM0/0 description 01270 111111 no ip address no atm ilmi-keepalive pvc 0/38 encapsulation aal5mux ppp dialer dialer pool-member 1 ! dsl operating-mode auto ! interface FastEthernet0/0 ip address 82.133.32.9 255.255.255.248 shutdown speed 100 full-duplex no cdp enable ! interface ATM0/1 description 01270 222222 no ip address no atm ilmi-keepalive pvc 0/38 encapsulation aal5mux ppp dialer dialer pool-member 1 ! dsl operating-mode auto ! interface FastEthernet0/1 ip address 217.146.115.49 255.255.255.240 duplex auto speed auto no cdp enable ! interface Dialer0 ip address 217.146.115.250 255.255.255.248 encapsulation ppp dialer pool 1 dialer-group 1 ppp authentication chap callin ppp chap hostname [email protected] ppp chap password 7 xxxxx ppp multilink ! ip classless ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 Dialer0 ! no ip http server no ip http secure-server ! no logging trap access-list 10 permit 217.146.115.50 access-list 10 permit 82.133.32.10 access-list 10 deny any access-list 22 permit 217.146.115.50 access-list 22 permit 217.206.239.86 access-list 22 permit 82.133.32.10 access-list 22 deny any dialer-list 1 protocol ip permit no cdp run ! ! snmp-server community xxxxxx RO 10 snmp-server enable traps tty radius-server authorization permit missing Service-Type ! ! ! ! ! ! line con 0 exec-timeout 5 0 password 7 xxxxxx line aux 0 no exec line vty 0 4 access-class 22 in exec-timeout 5 0 password 7 xxxxxx transport input telnet ssh transport output none line vty 5 15 password 7 xxxxxx transport input telnet ssh ! ntp clock-period 17180095 ntp server 130.88.200.98 ! ! end Now my knowledge is very limited but ISP have said that while the lines are bonded each needs a seperate login as they've recently changed their L2TP router and that enforces the use of seperate logins - when the lines were configured we were given two logins. • Unity – Part 5: Injecting Values

    - by Ricardo Peres
    Introduction This is the fifth post on Unity. You can find the introductory post here, the second post, on dependency injection here, a third one on Aspect Oriented Programming (AOP) here and the latest so far, on writing custom extensions, here. This time we will talk about injecting simple values. An Inversion of Control (IoC) / Dependency Injector (DI) container like Unity can be used for things other than injecting complex class dependencies. It can also be used for setting property values or method/constructor parameters whenever a class is built. The main difference is that these values do not have a lifetime manager associated with them and do not come from the regular IoC registration store. Unlike, for instance, MEF, Unity won’t let you register as a dependency a string or an integer, so you have to take a different approach, which I will describe in this post. Scenario Let’s imagine we have a base interface that describes a logger – the same as in previous examples: 1: public interface ILogger 2: { 3: void Log(String message); 4: } And a concrete implementation that writes to a file: 1: public class FileLogger : ILogger 2: { 3: public String Filename 4: { 5: get; 6: set; 7: } 8:  9: #region ILogger Members 10:  11: public void Log(String message) 12: { 13: using (Stream file = File.OpenWrite(this.Filename)) 14: { 15: Byte[] data = Encoding.Default.GetBytes(message); 16: 17: file.Write(data, 0, data.Length); 18: } 19: } 20:  21: #endregion 22: } And let’s say we want the Filename property to come from the application settings (appSettings) section on the Web/App.config file. As usual with Unity, there is an extensibility point that allows us to automatically do this, both with code configuration or statically on the configuration file. Extending Injection We start by implementing a class that will retrieve a value from the appSettings by inheriting from ValueElement: 1: sealed class AppSettingsParameterValueElement : ValueElement, IDependencyResolverPolicy 2: { 3: #region Private methods 4: private Object CreateInstance(Type parameterType) 5: { 6: Object configurationValue = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings[this.AppSettingsKey]; 7:  8: if (parameterType != typeof(String)) 9: { 10: TypeConverter typeConverter = this.GetTypeConverter(parameterType); 11:  12: configurationValue = typeConverter.ConvertFromInvariantString(configurationValue as String); 13: } 14:  15: return (configurationValue); 16: } 17: #endregion 18:  19: #region Private methods 20: private TypeConverter GetTypeConverter(Type parameterType) 21: { 22: if (String.IsNullOrEmpty(this.TypeConverterTypeName) == false) 23: { 24: return (Activator.CreateInstance(TypeResolver.ResolveType(this.TypeConverterTypeName)) as TypeConverter); 25: } 26: else 27: { 28: return (TypeDescriptor.GetConverter(parameterType)); 29: } 30: } 31: #endregion 32:  33: #region Public override methods 34: public override InjectionParameterValue GetInjectionParameterValue(IUnityContainer container, Type parameterType) 35: { 36: Object value = this.CreateInstance(parameterType); 37: return (new InjectionParameter(parameterType, value)); 38: } 39: #endregion 40:  41: #region IDependencyResolverPolicy Members 42:  43: public Object Resolve(IBuilderContext context) 44: { 45: Type parameterType = null; 46:  47: if (context.CurrentOperation is ResolvingPropertyValueOperation) 48: { 49: ResolvingPropertyValueOperation op = (context.CurrentOperation as ResolvingPropertyValueOperation); 50: PropertyInfo prop = op.TypeBeingConstructed.GetProperty(op.PropertyName); 51: parameterType = prop.PropertyType; 52: } 53: else if (context.CurrentOperation is ConstructorArgumentResolveOperation) 54: { 55: ConstructorArgumentResolveOperation op = (context.CurrentOperation as ConstructorArgumentResolveOperation); 56: String args = op.ConstructorSignature.Split('(')[1].Split(')')[0]; 57: Type[] types = args.Split(',').Select(a => Type.GetType(a.Split(' ')[0])).ToArray(); 58: ConstructorInfo ctor = op.TypeBeingConstructed.GetConstructor(types); 59: parameterType = ctor.GetParameters().Where(p => p.Name == op.ParameterName).Single().ParameterType; 60: } 61: else if (context.CurrentOperation is MethodArgumentResolveOperation) 62: { 63: MethodArgumentResolveOperation op = (context.CurrentOperation as MethodArgumentResolveOperation); 64: String methodName = op.MethodSignature.Split('(')[0].Split(' ')[1]; 65: String args = op.MethodSignature.Split('(')[1].Split(')')[0]; 66: Type[] types = args.Split(',').Select(a => Type.GetType(a.Split(' ')[0])).ToArray(); 67: MethodInfo method = op.TypeBeingConstructed.GetMethod(methodName, types); 68: parameterType = method.GetParameters().Where(p => p.Name == op.ParameterName).Single().ParameterType; 69: } 70:  71: return (this.CreateInstance(parameterType)); 72: } 73:  74: #endregion 75:  76: #region Public properties 77: [ConfigurationProperty("appSettingsKey", IsRequired = true)] 78: public String AppSettingsKey 79: { 80: get 81: { 82: return ((String)base["appSettingsKey"]); 83: } 84:  85: set 86: { 87: base["appSettingsKey"] = value; 88: } 89: } 90: #endregion 91: } As you can see from the implementation of the IDependencyResolverPolicy.Resolve method, this will work in three different scenarios: When it is applied to a property; When it is applied to a constructor parameter; When it is applied to an initialization method. The implementation will even try to convert the value to its declared destination, for example, if the destination property is an Int32, it will try to convert the appSettings stored string to an Int32. Injection By Configuration If we want to configure injection by configuration, we need to implement a custom section extension by inheriting from SectionExtension, and registering our custom element with the name “appSettings”: 1: sealed class AppSettingsParameterInjectionElementExtension : SectionExtension 2: { 3: public override void AddExtensions(SectionExtensionContext context) 4: { 5: context.AddElement<AppSettingsParameterValueElement>("appSettings"); 6: } 7: } And on the configuration file, for setting a property, we use it like this: 1: <appSettings> 2: <add key="LoggerFilename" value="Log.txt"/> 3: </appSettings> 4: <unity xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/practices/2010/unity"> 5: <container> 6: <register type="MyNamespace.ILogger, MyAssembly" mapTo="MyNamespace.ConsoleLogger, MyAssembly"/> 7: <register type="MyNamespace.ILogger, MyAssembly" mapTo="MyNamespace.FileLogger, MyAssembly" name="File"> 8: <lifetime type="singleton"/> 9: <property name="Filename"> 10: <appSettings appSettingsKey="LoggerFilename"/> 11: </property> 12: </register> 13: </container> 14: </unity> If we would like to inject the value as a constructor parameter, it would be instead: 1: <unity xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/practices/2010/unity"> 2: <sectionExtension type="MyNamespace.AppSettingsParameterInjectionElementExtension, MyAssembly" /> 3: <container> 4: <register type="MyNamespace.ILogger, MyAssembly" mapTo="MyNamespace.ConsoleLogger, MyAssembly"/> 5: <register type="MyNamespace.ILogger, MyAssembly" mapTo="MyNamespace.FileLogger, MyAssembly" name="File"> 6: <lifetime type="singleton"/> 7: <constructor> 8: <param name="filename" type="System.String"> 9: <appSettings appSettingsKey="LoggerFilename"/> 10: </param> 11: </constructor> 12: </register> 13: </container> 14: </unity> Notice the appSettings section, where we add a LoggerFilename entry, which is the same as the one referred by our AppSettingsParameterInjectionElementExtension extension. For more advanced behavior, you can add a TypeConverterName attribute to the appSettings declaration, where you can pass an assembly qualified name of a class that inherits from TypeConverter. This class will be responsible for converting the appSettings value to a destination type. Injection By Attribute If we would like to use attributes instead, we need to create a custom attribute by inheriting from DependencyResolutionAttribute: 1: [Serializable] 2: [AttributeUsage(AttributeTargets.Parameter | AttributeTargets.Property, AllowMultiple = false, Inherited = true)] 3: public sealed class AppSettingsDependencyResolutionAttribute : DependencyResolutionAttribute 4: { 5: public AppSettingsDependencyResolutionAttribute(String appSettingsKey) 6: { 7: this.AppSettingsKey = appSettingsKey; 8: } 9:  10: public String TypeConverterTypeName 11: { 12: get; 13: set; 14: } 15:  16: public String AppSettingsKey 17: { 18: get; 19: private set; 20: } 21:  22: public override IDependencyResolverPolicy CreateResolver(Type typeToResolve) 23: { 24: return (new AppSettingsParameterValueElement() { AppSettingsKey = this.AppSettingsKey, TypeConverterTypeName = this.TypeConverterTypeName }); 25: } 26: } As for file configuration, there is a mandatory property for setting the appSettings key and an optional TypeConverterName  for setting the name of a TypeConverter. Both the custom attribute and the custom section return an instance of the injector AppSettingsParameterValueElement that we implemented in the first place. Now, the attribute needs to be placed before the injected class’ Filename property: 1: public class FileLogger : ILogger 2: { 3: [AppSettingsDependencyResolution("LoggerFilename")] 4: public String Filename 5: { 6: get; 7: set; 8: } 9:  10: #region ILogger Members 11:  12: public void Log(String message) 13: { 14: using (Stream file = File.OpenWrite(this.Filename)) 15: { 16: Byte[] data = Encoding.Default.GetBytes(message); 17: 18: file.Write(data, 0, data.Length); 19: } 20: } 21:  22: #endregion 23: } Or, if we wanted to use constructor injection: 1: public class FileLogger : ILogger 2: { 3: public String Filename 4: { 5: get; 6: set; 7: } 8:  9: public FileLogger([AppSettingsDependencyResolution("LoggerFilename")] String filename) 10: { 11: this.Filename = filename; 12: } 13:  14: #region ILogger Members 15:  16: public void Log(String message) 17: { 18: using (Stream file = File.OpenWrite(this.Filename)) 19: { 20: Byte[] data = Encoding.Default.GetBytes(message); 21: 22: file.Write(data, 0, data.Length); 23: } 24: } 25:  26: #endregion 27: } Usage Just do: 1: ILogger logger = ServiceLocator.Current.GetInstance<ILogger>("File"); And off you go! A simple way do avoid hardcoded values in component registrations. Of course, this same concept can be applied to registry keys, environment values, XML attributes, etc, etc, just change the implementation of the AppSettingsParameterValueElement class. Next stop: custom lifetime managers.

  • What is hogging my connection?

    - by SF.
    At times it seems like dozens, if not hundreds of root-owned HTTP connections spring up. This is not much of a problem on LAN or WLAN as each of them seems to transfer very little, but if I use GPRS link, my ping times go into minutes (seriously, 80000ms is not infrequent!) and all connections grind to a halt waiting till these end. This usually lasts some 15 minutes and ends about when I start troubleshooting it for real. I've recently been going through our 404 logs and we have a number of urls which look like this turning up:- http://www.makejusticework.org.uk/%2B%255BPLM=0%255D%2BGET%2Bhttp:/www.makejusticework.org.uk/%2B%255B0,51217,54078%255D%2B-%253E%2B%255BN%255D%2BPOST%2Bhttp:/www.makejusticework.org.uk/media/roma-hoopers-justice-campaign-blog/prison-expensive-making-people-worse-roger-graef-obe-ceo-films-record-ambassador-justice-work/2012/02/22/%2B%255B0,0,67227%255D It contains the actual url, which is:- http://www.makejusticework.org.uk/media/roma-hoopers-justice-campaign-blog/prison-expensive-making-people-worse-roger-graef-obe-ceo-films-record-ambassador-justice-work/2012/02/22/ This blog post relates to a recently redirected url (standard redirect 301) hence the concern - can anyone shed any light on this kind of thing?

  • How do I make the Cylinder in the model?

    - by Stanley Chiu
    I have a class which will draw cylinders with deformer's index in the FBX file. The deformer which was in the 3ds max's biped. ex: If I have 22 bones in the deformer's structure, I will draw 22 cylinders. But I was in trouble that I want to let these cylinders in the model. And then I refer to the example (XNA Club Simple Animation 4.0) for my program. But these cylinders are not in correct positions with the model. How do I make these cylinders in correct positions with the model?

  • Methods of learning / teaching programming

    - by Mark Avenius
    When I was in school, I had a difficult time getting into programming because of a catch-22 in the learning process: I didn't know how to write anything because I didn't know what keywords and commands meant. For example (as a student, I would think), "what does this using namespace std; thing do anyway? I didn't know what keywords and commands meant because I hadn't written anything. This basically led me to spending countless long night cursing the compiler as I made minor tweaks to my assignments until they would compile (and hopefully perform whatever operation they were supposed to). Is there a teaching/learning method that anyone uses that gets around this catch-22? I am trying to make this non-argumentative, which is why I don't want to know the 'best' method, but rather which methods exist.
