  • How do I clear xmodmap settings?

    Exactly what the title asks. How do I clear xmodmap settings? I have an IBM model M, and somehow xkeycaps got it into its head that my "End" key was not any key at all. xev reports keypresses when I use it, so I know the event is being generated by the keyboard. Also, xkeycaps thinks that my arrow keys are all wonky, and apparently the scrollbar is broken so it only scrolls down - so I can't scroll up to find an IBM keyboard that just maybe is close to my map so I can fix my keys. So I'm trying to reset my keyboard to the default settings, but the xmodmap manpage is woefully devoid of "reset all" or "clear all" or anything of that nature (that I was able to find). Help would be greatly appreciated!

    The world of software creation is very competitive. I've heard it said to be successful you need to be the first one with the idea. Everyone knows how Bill Gates created IBM DOS on one machine while simultaneously building MS-DOS on another machine (and we all know how that turned out). In order to be the first to come up with a new software product, where do you go looking for fresh ideas? Update 06/26/13: Reworded this question in an attempt to get it reopened. Bill Gates developed MS-DOS at the same time he was hired to develop IBM DOS. As a programming community, we would all gain by understanding how to think up great ideas for software. As programmer we tend to get stuck in our thinking... it's refreshing to hear how fellow programmers busted out and came up with their ideas. It's not very likely that we will have an MS-DOS opportunity like Bill Gates. Please vote to reopen.

    I'm involved in a project that requires to mobile-enable some previously developed Portlets. The Portlets are deployed in WebSphere Portal, and the container offers a technology called IBM Mobile Portal Accelerator that uses XDIME to render mobile pages according to the device. I'm trying to document myself in the technology and I'm having a bad time: Google only shows some outdated sites from IBM and even older posts from Volantis, another company involved in the technology (Amazon shows no related books). So... what's the current status of that technology actually? Is has some decent level of adoption?

  • ATI ES1000 graphic card

    I am installing Ubuntu 12.04 on an IBM x3250 M2 server, It has an ATI ES1000 with no acceleration (that does not bother me, we don't need it), we use it to connect remotely via FreeNX. FreeNX works fine, (except than in Windows 7 machines NX Client shows only icons and no text ?!) but the only resolution I can get in the monitor directly attached to the server is 800x600. The display manager also shows me two monitors!, the real one and one IBM 15". Which driver should I install?. It seems that the ATI driver that comes with Ubuntu does not work properly. Any help will be apreciated. Thanks in advance. j&b

    Hi, I have a BPEL running on WPS 6.2 trying to call a web service on developed on RAD 7.5, deployed on RAD test environment. I have setup WS Transaction policy on both client and server. I get an error on WAS 7.0 saying Must Understand check failed for headers: {http:// schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2004/10/wscoor}CoordinationContext I tried to generate the same webservice on ibm wid 6.2 and deployed on EAR on WAS 7, it works perfect. Any thoughts ? Is there a SOAP runtime mismatch ? Help appreciated . -AK

    Hi all, I'm working on getting a simple lighting right on my OpenGL ES iPhone scene. I'm displaying a simple object centered on the origin, and using an arcball to rotate it by touching the screen. All this works nicely, except I try to add one fixed light (fixed w.r.t. eye position) and it is badly screwed: the whole object (an icosahedron in this example) is lit uniformly, i.e. it all appears in the same color. In the rest of the text I found on this paper, these kind of ATMs which called "Automated Computer Kiosk" were advertised with this: Mr. Rad-lon (if spelled correctly) puts his card to one specific location of Automated Computer Kiosk and after 10 seconds he withdraws his cash. Two more questions are: 1- How those ATMs were so fast? (withdrawal in 10 seconds in that year) 2- I didn't find any text on Internet which state about "Automated Computer Kiosk", Is it valid or were they being called Computer in that time?

  • MultiPath configuration on RHEL5 and Clariion CX-300

    I have problem with discovering my FC-connected CX-300 storage. Frankly speaking I'm complete novice in FibreChannel, so step by step explanation would be appreciated. My configuration consist of two IBM HS20 blades with RHEL5.4 on board and 2x Qlogic ISP2422-based 4Gb Fibre Channel HBAs on each blade. As a FC switch there are two Brocades built in BladeCenter Chassis, and finally there is EMC Clariion CX-300. CX300, and Brocade switches should be configured properly, because they were working fine with previous configuration, which main defference was RHEL3 instead RHEL5.4 Below there is my output from several usefull commands: #lspci | grep Fibre 06:01.0 FibreChannle: Qlogic Corp.   • getting "No LoginModules configured" for JAAS login under WebSphere security domain

    I have a JAX-RPC web service running on WebSphere V7. It requires a UserNameToken for security. I have a custom login module (MyLoginModule) which extracts the username and password, and that module is defined as a JAAS application login in the websphere admin console. Using IBM RAD 8.0, I have bound the token consumer to the login module using the JAAS config name of the module. This all works fine and happy on my development server. Now I realize, that for deployment to another server, I am required to move the JAAS login from global security to a security domain. When I do that, it breaks my web service. I get this SOAP Fault message: com.ibm.wsspi.wssecurity.SoapSecurityException: WSEC6520E: Construction of the login context failed. The exception is : javax.security.auth.login.LoginException: No LoginModules configured for MyLoginModule According to the IBM docs: The JAAS application logins, the JAAS system logins, and the JAAS J2C authentication data aliases can all be configured at the domain level. By default, all of the applications in the system have access to the JAAS logins configured at the global level. The security runtime first checks for the JAAS logins at the domain level. If it does not find them, it then checks for them in the global security configuration. Configure any of these JAAS logins at a domain only when you need to specify a login that is used exclusively by the applications in the security domain. So I am looking to make sure my application is in the domain, and I have tried everything I can think of. (I have assigned the domain to "all scopes", to the entire cell, etc.) No luck, I keep getting the same error response to my web service client. Any help or hints are appreciated.

  • PS/2 to USB adapter doesn't work with Model M keyboard

    I bought a server about 3 months ago from a friend, and I have only had time to tinker with it in the last week. I noticed that this server doesn't have any PS/2 ports, which meant configuring it was near impossible. I don't have any USB keyboards in the house, I only have an IBM Model M keyboard (built 1994) and another IBM keyboard that was built circa 2001. Both of them have PS/2 connections. I bought an adapter off eBay, and when I used it with the Model M keyboard the three lights on the keyboard flashed for a split second, but then the keyboard is then unresponsive. I can bash away at the keys for ages and nothing will happen. The same applies to the later built IBM keyboard. What could I do to make the adapter work? I am getting the loan of a USB keyboard in two weeks time, but I'd like a more permanent solution without having to rely on getting the loan of a keyboard every time I have to perform maintenance on the server. And as I already have two keyboards which work fine and I like using, I don't really want to have to buy another keyboard just for use on the server.
