  • What is a good PDF report generator tool for python?

    What is a good tool for PDF report generation in Python? I've checked out ReportLab, but it seems to be awfully low-level for what I want to do. My current hunch is to call TeX on the command-line and let it produce the PDF, but if there is something that is easier to work with (and looks professional - We'll send this to customers) I'd very much like a prod in the right direction.

  • Referencing a theorem-like environment by its [name]

    I am using ntheorem to typeset a set of conditions. In my preamble I have: \theoremstyle{empty} \newtheorem{Condtion}{Condtion} When I want to typeset a condition, I write: \begin{Condtion}[name] \label{cnd:nm} foo foo foo \end{Condition} The name appears boldface on the same line as the start of the text of the condition, with no number or anything. Perfect. What I want to do now is refer to the condition by some variant of the \ref command, \ref calls the number [which is not displayed anywhere else] \thref writes "Condition n" for the nth condition \nameref writes the name of the SECTION of the label. a zref solution was suggested here, but seems unsatisfactory. Any clues?

  • How to place caption (figure / table) into margin?

    I write thesis and need to put a lot of small pictures into it. I also need to use captions (with labels) for better navigation and referring to these pictures. In the same time I want to spare space and put captions beside (next to) pictures, in margin, like marginpar does. I tried sidecap package but it didn't work, neither mcaption package did help. Maybe using a minipage would solve it, but I would like also to align caption to the middle (vertical align) of picture. Any suggestions?

    At the top of my tex document, I set my sourcecode listing format by \lstset{language=java} \lstset{numbers=left, numberstyle=\tiny, numbersep=5pt, breaklines=true} \lstset{emph={square}, emphstyle=\color{red}, emph={[2]root,base}, emphstyle={[2]\color{blue}}} because I merely list Java source code. At one point in my document, I had to reformat for a single listing by \lstset{commentstyle=\footnotesize\textit} \lstset{basicstyle=\ttfamily\fontsize{11}{12}\selectfont} \lstset{literate= {!=} {$\neq$}{2}} Now I have the problem that my previous Java formatting for listings is destroyed, and I dont know how to reset the lst settings to default. How can this be avoided?

    The bold small caps don't work with mathpazo font.     Hi I can't figure out how to add a space (say 3em) after the Exercise environment . I don't want to do it manually for every exercise, but automatically, by using \addtolength or redefining the environment or something.     I have been formatting my dissertation and one little problem is stucking me up. I used the following code to typeset an equation \begin{align} & R=\frac{P^2}{P+S'} \label{eqn:SCS}\\ &\mbox {where} \quad \mbox R = \mbox {Watershed Runoff} \notag\\ &\hspace{0.63in} \mbox P = \mbox{Rainfall} \notag\\ &\hspace{0.63in} \mbox S' = \mbox{Storage in the watershed $=\frac{1000}{CN}-10$ }\notag \end{align} My output requirement is such that: The equation should begin one tab space from the left margin The equation number should end at one tab space from the right margin With the above code, I have the equation begin at the right place but not the numbering.     An interlinear gloss can be used to layout a translation of a document. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interlinear_gloss Usually this is done word-by-word or morpheme-by-morpheme. However, I would like to do this in a different way, translating entire paragraphs at a time. http://www.optimnem.co.uk/learning/spanish/three-little-pigs.php For now I am not interested in taking into account the order of words or phrases that change order between languages. That is, I don't mind if the words in the paragraph are not aligned or if the length of one paragraph is much longer than the other, causing an overhanging line.   • svn update overwrite local copy - can I retrieve local copy?

    Hi: So I was editing a file on my local machine and I was ready to commit to the repository except that instead of running the svn commit, I ran svn update. Is there any way I can retrieve the changes that I had? I was working on a tex file in vim and I had closed the file before running svn update. Thanks. EDIT: I'm sorry - I completely was worried for nothing (project deadline in 30 mins and I thought I deleted all my changes). I realize that when I run svn update, it doesn't rewrite the local changes but tries to merge the files if there are no conflicts. Can someone tell me how to close or remove this post? Thanks.

    I try two use sidewaysfigure from the rotating package in the twosided memoir class. The resulting figures look correct in the pdf that is generated, with the page rotated by 90 degrees. However, when I print the document (on linux, using CUPS), some of the pages with a sidewaysfigure are upside down (rotated by 180 degreeS).

    I'm trying to save some text inside an environment for later use. The smallest test case I could come up with is this. The saved text in the sbox isn't available after the environment is closed. How can I work around that?   • What is a good program, with PostScript output (for LaTeX), to make circuit diagrams?

    Hello; I just found out to my dismay that Visio 2007 does not include the ability to output drawings in EPS/PS formats, which makes it unsuitable for my uses. I wish to create various circuit digrams (including some texts for resistor values, voltage sources, etc...) with most electronic components (resistors, logic gates). Visio was a great tool for this, but I need to include these in lab reports which I am typesetting with LaTeX. The recommended format to include images in LaTeX is PostScript, so the fonts can be properly substituted, and the drawings scale properly. So my question: Is there a Windows program which will allow me to create circuit diagrams, add various labels, and export it to PostScript format?

  • bash-completion for xelatex

    I'm on Ubuntu 12.04. When using bash as my shell, I can just type latex my_do <TAB> to compile a file my_document.tex, as *bash_completion* does the auto-complete. However, this auto-completion does not work for the xelatex executable. So I would like to add the same auto-complete functionality for xelatex as exists for latex. I could find that the latex auto-complete feature comes from the file /etc/bash_completion, where I could find a line complete -f -X '!*.@(?(la)tex|texi|dtx|ins|ltx)' tex latex slitex jadetex pdfjadetex pdftex pdflatex texi2dvi Now I could of course just add xelatex to that line and everything is fine. However, I'm wondering if I could instead put a file in /etc/bash_completion.d, as this would leave the system file untouched. Unfortunately, I'm at a complete loss about the syntax -- but maybe someone can help me here?

  • Package problems after upgrade

    I installed a new upgrade on ubuntu which seemed to fail near the end. Now I'm being told that an error has occurred and to please run apt-get to see what's wrong. After some further tries with that I eventually gave up. It seems there's a left over latex package(?) somewhere and I can't seem to get rid of or fix it.   • Autocompleting \cite{} with emacs + auctex gives "cite: no such database entry"

    Hi: I am running Emacs 23.1.1 and AucTeX 11.85 in an Ubuntu 8.10 machine. After opening a tex file, the first time I try to use the autocompletion of the \cite{} command, I get "cite: info not available, use `C-c &' to get it." in the minibuffer. After doing the 'C-c &', I get "byte-code: No BibTeX entry with citation key". Subsequent calls to \cite gives me the message "cite: no such database entry" . I have a \bibliography{library} in my tex file, and the \cite{} entries that I did manually work as expected. I have the following in my .emacs (require 'reftex) (setq-default TeX-master nil) (add-hook 'LaTeX-mode-hook 'TeX-PDF-mode) ;turn on pdf-mode. AUCTeX ;will call pdflatex to ;compile instead of latex. (add-hook 'LaTeX-mode-hook 'LaTeX-math-mode) ;turn on math-mode by ;default (add-hook 'LaTeX-mode-hook 'reftex-mode) ;turn on REFTeX mode by ;default (add-hook 'LaTeX-mode-hook 'flyspell-mode) ;turn on flyspell mode by ;default (setq reftex-plug-into-AUCTeX t) (setq TeX-auto-save t) (setq TeX-save-query nil) (setq TeX-parse-self t) (setq-default TeX-master nil) I also tried the suggestions in http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2699017/suggestion-for-cite-in-emacs-with-auctex, but it didn't work either.
