  • Windows 8 Login Password Out of Sync with Windows Live ID

    I'm working with a computer that has setup a local account connected under Windows Live ID. The user can login to Live ID (like hotmail) from another computer with the correct credentials. However from the Windows 8 computer using the correct password it indicates. That password is incorrect. Make sure you're using the password for you Mircrosoft Account. You can always reset it at account.live.com/password/reset. Now, I've used NTPASSWD to reset the password, but it seems that since its not a "Local Account" it wont take the new password or blank one. This account also has a "PIN" the user who also has forgotten it. I also tried to enable/password set the local Administrator account but it does not show up for login. Any ideas?

  • Deploying new code live

    What's the best practise to deploy new code on a live (e-commerce) site? For now I have stopped apache for +/- 10 seconds when renaming directory public_html_new to public_html and old to public_html_old. This creates a short down-time, before I start Apache again. The same question goes if using Git to pull the new repo to the live directory. Can I pull the repo while the site is active? And how about if I need to copy a DB as well? During the tar (backup purpose) compression of the live site I noticed that changes occurred in the media directory. That indicated to me that files keep on changing periodically. And if these changes can interfere if Apache is not stopped during deployment.

    Sitting in Dominic Delmolino's session at ODTUG (KScope 12). If the session count at conferences is any indication then we will see more and more people start to deploy MapReduce in the database. And yes, that would be with SQL and PL/SQL first and foremost. Both Dominic and our own Bryn Llewellyn are doing MapReduce in the database presentations.  Since I have seen both, I would advice people to first look through Dominic's session to get a good grasp on what mappers do and what reducers do, then dive into Bryn's for a bunch of PL/SQL example. The thing I like about Dominic's is the last slide (a recursive WITH statement) to do this in SQL... Now I am hoping that next year we will see tools vendors show off how they work with Hadoop and MapReduce (at least talking about the concepts!!).

  • ASUS Q500A will not boot from live DVD

    I just purchased a new PC yesterday, an ASUS Q500A. I downloaded Ubuntu 12.10, burned it to a DVD, and tried to install it. As expected, I came to a screen that asked if I wanted to try, install, OEM install, or check the disc. After going to try, the DVD spins up as if it's about to boot the system and then immediately spins down again to leave a black screen. I've tried several boot options: noacpi nolacpi acpi=off Removing quiet splash -- nolacpi results in the DVD drive not spinning up at all. The rest have no effect. Some stats about the system: Intel i5-3210M processor Intel Integrated Graphics 4000 Any tips on other things to try?

  • Can't install Ubuntu on a Z68xP-UD3p board

    I have tried to install Ubuntu version 10, 11 and 12 64 bit on my Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3P motherboard using live CD and placing the DVD in the drive and starting the machine. When I go to install Ubuntu I get a dark screen and no text at all. When I go with Live CD I reboot and then I go right into the install from the boot menu and still get darkness. Nothing appears. I have a i7 intel CPU with Nvida Gefore GTX 560 Ti video board.

  • Stability of beta and daily-live

    I have some related questions: For 12.04 (and in general), are the beta releases more stable/less buggy than the daily builds? If the answer to 1 is yes, then if I install the beta and apt-get upgrade, will I remain at the "stability level" of the beta, or of the daily builds? At this point, is there any advantage to installing the beta over installing a daily image? (Background : I am debating whether to install 11.10 or 12.04 beta/daily on a new machine)

  • Keeping websites from knowing where I live

    This questions is related to issues and practicality, not security. I live in Brazil and, apparently, every single website I visit knows about it. Usually that's okay. But there are quite a few sites that don't make use of that information adequately. For instance: Bing keeps thinking that Brazilian pages are way more relevant to me than American ones (which they're not). google.com always redirects me to google.com.br Microsoft automatically sends me to horribly translated support pages in Portuguese (which would just be easier to read in English). These are just a few examples. Usually it's stuff I can live with (or work around), but some of them are just plain irritating. I have geolocation disabled in Firefox, so I guess they're either getting this information from my IP or from Windows itself (which I bought here). Is there a way to avoid this? Either tell them nothing or make them think I live somewhere else?

So kann man bei einem Snack auch gleich die beeindruckende Atmosphäre der Commerzbank Arena auf sich wirken lassen und ist, ehe man sich versieht, mit dem nebenstehenden Geschäftsführer, einer Managerin und zwei Vertriebsmitarbeitern in ein Gespräch über die jeweils letzten Stadionbesuche verwickelt. Überall fröhliches Wiedersehen, viele haben sich das letzte Mal vor genau einem Jahr getroffen, im Radisson Blu, beim OPN Day Satellite. So, die Masse setzt sich in Bewegung – auf geht’s zur Eröffnung: Silvia Kaske fängt an! 13:45 Uhr Die Keynotes waren mal wieder ein thematischer Rundumschlag – und ein kleines Who-is-Who im Oracle Universum zugleich: Silvia Kaske, Senior Director Channel A&C eröffnete den Partner Day, danach stellte David Callaghan (Senior Vice President UK, Ireland, Israel) die EMEA-Strategien für das FY13 vor und Jürgen Kunz (SVP Technology Northern Europe & Country Leader Germany) sprach über die Geschäftsmöglichkeiten mit Partnern. Christian Werner gab in seiner neuen Funktion als Senior Director Alliances & Channels Germany einen Überblick über die neue Struktur des Oracle Channels und stellte das deutsche Team vor. Zum Abschluss folgte mit Prof. Hermann Maurer ein Gastredner von der Academia Europaea, einer prominent besetzten akademischen Gesellschaft, die sich dem besseren Verständnis der Wissenschaft in der Öffentlichkeit verschrieben hat. Er wagte einen Blick in die Zukunft der IT: „Das Beste kommt erst noch“. Wie immer, in einem so komprimierten Programm, bleibt noch die eine oder andere Frage – aber jetzt ist ja Zeit, bei Coffee & Networking noch mal nachzufragen. Kurz nach 14 Uhr Viele haben inzwischen auch das erste Obergeschoss erkundet. In der Partner Service Zone ist das Angebot breit gefächert: Von Oracle Financing über das License Management bis hin zu OPN Specialized dreht sich hier alles um konkrete Angebote für Partner. Nach einem kurzen Abstecher in die ISV-Lounge, geht es weiter zur Expert Zone: Oracle Database, Oracle Options, Fusion Middleware, Applications und Oracle Hardware heißen hier die Themen und an den Infoständen wird bereits lautstark gefachsimpelt. Zurück im Erdgeschoss sieht man noch diverse Partner, Oracle Executives und andere Teilnehmer durcheinander wuseln, um ihre Breakout Session zu finden. Andere blättern im druckfrischen A&C Kursbuch. In den nächsten zwei Stunden stehen Business Opportunities im Fokus – aufgeteilt nach Hardware, Technology oder Sales Partnern – dazu noch die Angebote der VADs, die A&C Partner Sessions und das 1:1 Speed Dating. Einige Partner nutzen parallel die angebotenen Implementation Tests, um direkt vor Ort die Zertifizierung zu erhalten. Das doppelte Angebot der Breakouts ermöglicht den Teilnehmern, an möglichst vielen Sessions nacheinander teilzunehmen. Kein Thema soll zu kurz kommen! Ein AusblickWas erwartet uns noch, im Laufe des Nachmittags? Sehr informativ wird sicherlich das Leader Panel, in dem die teilnehmenden Partner Fragen an Oracle Executives stellen können. Wenn dann die ersten Teilnehmer unruhig werden, hat das nichts mit den Themen zu tun. Cloud providers can take an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) approach and build a cloud on virtualized commodity hardware, or they can take the Platform as a Service (PaaS) path, a service-oriented approach based on pre-configured, integrated, engineered systems. This presentation uses the Oracle Cloud itself as a case study in the use of engineered systems, demonstrating how the technical design of engineered systems is leveraged for building PaaS and SaaS Cloud services and a Cloud management infrastructure.
