  • Can NULL RRs still be used or should be generally avoided?

    I'm searching for a way for a placeholder in my bind zone files. I found some information on the NULL RR which would be perfect, but wikipedia states it's obsolete by RFC 883. I read through this RFC but could not find any reference for this statement. Is the NULL RR obsolete or not? Is it acceptable to use it as placeholder? At the moment I use this: somename IN TXT "placeholder"

  • Solaris SPARC 10 32bit mode

    I'm looking for a definitive answer, does Solaris 10 running on a SPARC machine support booting into 32bit mode? I've found one site that states Solaris 8 was the last version that supported booting in a 32bit mode for SPARC. I've read multiple items that explain how to boot Solaris into 32bit mode, however they did not list the Solaris version. We've tried all the ways specified, but the system keeps booting into 64bit mode.

  • Windows 7 accounts on a 2008r2 DC keep getting locked out randomly

    As the title states, this happens randomly to Windows 7 accounts on our Windows 2008R2 domain controller. We just had this start happening after changing from 123together hosted exchange to Rackspace hosted exchange. Also around this time our passwords on the DC started expiring, but not the exact day, and everyone has different days they need to change it before. It has only affected 10 out of 30 accounts, and I see no link between them. What are some fixes I should run or things to look for?

  • Computer suddenly dies; screen displays weird flickering lines, then restarts

    I've been having this terrible problem for a little while and just managed to get a picture of 'dead screen' for the first time and I am posting it to seek help. Randomly, at irregular intervals (typically once a week), while working on something (it's been different things every time) my computer will just suddenly go dead - the screen turns to exactly the picture below (the lines flicker a little bit), it hangs there for a few seconds and then restarts. Obviously this is extremely frustrating and I want to try to stop it. I've searched numerous postings with similar keywords but nothing exactly the same as mine. Does anyone have any idea what might be the cause of this? I would post all my system settings and installed programs but the list is long and I don't know how much relevance each item would be. If you'd like to know something specific, please comment and I'll let you know whatever you need.     I have a Server running Ubuntu 10.10 Server-Edition kvm, and libvirt (both ubuntu-native packages) HDD-Partitioning was done with LVM. Then I created some VMs with Virt-Manager and assigned LVM-Volumes to the VMs. Now the VMs do not boot. Virt-Manager shows a CPU-Usage of 100% for this Guest and the VNC-Connection states Booting from Hard Disk The VM-specific logfiles do not show any abnormality only syslog shows a warning warning : qemudParsePCIDeviceStrs:1422 : Unexpected exit status '1', qemu probably failed What can I do to find the error?

  • Windows CHKDSK starts when 6 seconds have passed

    After reading this thread I might have sorted out why the CHKDSK-prompt starts. But the biggest problem is that when it prompts me with Press any key with in 10..0 seconds, nothing happens until the timer hits 6, then it starts the check even though I've pressed any button (and yet it's 4 seconds left). This question states the problem as it appears at me, though the answer is wrong. Why does the actual check start after 6 seconds, and is there any way to disable it from within Windows?

    There is a mountable /dev/sda NTFS formatted (Windows disk) There is no /dev/sdb when I ls /dev (NTFS Data disk) There is a /dev/sdc which is another disk of the same model, (Ubuntu disk) I can see that Ubuntu detected this unmountable disk in the Disk Utility It states incorrectly it is unpartioned and a RAID volume. (it previously was RAID0 setup with /dev/sdc but now it is a simple volume, no RAID whatsoever) When I boot Windows 7, it uses this unmountable disk without a glitch The problem happens in both IDE and AHCI modes Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx

    I am trying to tune a SQL Server. Per Brent Ozar's Performance Tuning Video, he says the PerfMon's Paging File:%Usage should be zero or ridiculously close to it. The average metric on my box is around 1.341% The box has 18 GB of RAM, the SQL Server is off, the Commit Charge Total is 1GB and yet the PerfMon metric is not 0. The Performance of the Task Manager states that PF Usage is 1.23GB. What should I do to better tune the box?

This seems like a lot and my latency issues move with the hour of the day - 7AM CST software functions fine, 10AM CST - system slows significantly this slowness continues until 6PM CST. My question is how many Tomcat instances can one application server handle?

  • Is trailing slash automagically added on click of home page URL in browser?

    I am asking this because whenever I mouseover a link to a home page (e.g. http://www.example.com), I notice that a trailing slash is always added (as observed on the status bar of the browser) whether the home page link contains a href attribute that ends with a slash or not. But whenever I am on the home page, the URL on display will not have a trailing slash. I tried entering a slash to the URL in the URL bar. And with Firebug enabled, I notice that the site always return a 200 OK status. An article here discussing this states that having a slash at the end will avoid a 301 redirection. But I am not seeing any redirection, even on this page. Could this be a browser feature that is appending the slash?

    We've had a website running on a .co.uk domain for some years, this domain is listed in the SERPS for our brand on both google.co.uk and google.com. We get little traffic from anywhere other than the UK because the website is targeted at the UK market with specific UK keywords. This is great, however we recently purchased the .com domain with the intention of producing a second version of the website targeted to the United States with US specific keywords i.e. targeting and moving in to the US marketplace. We have used Google webmaster tools to set the geographic target for the .com domain to be the US. I think I was expecting ONLY the .com site to show up when searching google.com and only the .co.uk site to show up when searching google.co.uk. However when we search google.com for our 'brand' the .co.uk site is listed in the SERPS. We would prefer the .com to appear in the SERPS on google.com. Is there anything we can do?

    State is an editable property for communicating the status of a document in the UPK library. This is particularly helpful when working with other authors in a development team. Authors can assign a state to any document using the values that are defined in the master list. The default master list of State values includes Not Started, Draft, In Review, and Final (in the language installed on the server). Administrators can customize the list by adding, deleting, or renaming the values as well as sequencing the values as they will appear on the assignment list from the Properties pane.   • How do I convert my matrix from OpenGL to Marmalade?

    I am using a third party rendering API, Marmalade, on top of OpenGL code and I cannot get my matrices correct. One of the API's authors states this: We're right handed by default, and we treat y as up by convention. Since IwGx's coordinate system has (0,0) as the top left, you typically need a 180 degree rotation around Z in your view matrix. I think the viewer does this by default. In my OpenGL app I have access to the view and projection matrices separately. How can I convert them to fit the criteria used by my third party rendering API? I don't understand what they mean to rotate 180 degrees around Z, is that in the view matrix itself or something in the camera before making the view matrix. Any code would be helpful, thanks.
