  • Keeping Aspect Screen Ration While Stays in Center

    I sqw and I tried this suggestion on PISTACHIO BRAINSTORMIN* on how to make a good and adaptive screen ration. For every different screen size, let's say I put the perfect circle as a Texture in LibGDX and played it on screen. Here's the blueberry image example and it's perfectly rounded: When I played it on the Google Nexus 7, the circle turn into a slightly oblonng shape, resembling as it was being flatten a bit. Please observe this snapshot below and you can see the blueberry is almost but slightly not perfectly rounded: Now, when I tried the suggested code for aspect ratio, the perfect circle retained but another problem is occured. The problem is that I expecting for a view on center but instead it's been moved to the right offset leaving with a half black screen.   • Web to Print system - which client side technology should I use

    I'm getting started to develop Web to Print system. My main concern is which client-side techology should I use: jQuery/CSS Flex/ActionScript or something else? For now, idea is that user/customer choose Product eg: Business card Attributes: Dimensions,Paper type, ... etc Template or blank Adjust product (editor) Preview & order Output should be PDF 300dpi. My main issue is: adding/adjusting text in editor. (font size, font family...). Because application should be cross browser. And I think that 10px Arial can't be the same in Firefox 5 and IE 8. It must be pixel perfect in every browser. If somebody order $100 of business cards, and text is different that he/she saw when ordering - that is a big problem. So, Flash platform should be the answer. But, as I see it's dying technology, 2012 is here - HTML5 is replacing Flash rapidly. I hope that you understand me, so every guideline or few smart words would be very appreciating.

  • Best arguments for/against introducing ORM technology into a companies dev process

    I have started using ORM technology in the last few years. My first exposure was NHibernate. I then moved onto Linq 2 Sql, and Entity Framework. The issue I have however is, there are some organisations where I have found strong opposition to introducing ORM tools. They usually have a number of reasons: they have a lot of built up SQL skills in the team, and are worried about the underlying SQL that ORM's generate. they have DBA's who like to be able to see the SQL an app uses in order that can review it for best practice. they are worried about performance (some people have "heard" the ORM's aren't as performant but have no real proof themselves - there may well be some truth in this! :). So, I'm looking for the best or most convincing arguments that you have put forward FOR the use of ORM tools. Equally, I would be interested in the against arguments too. Note: this is NOT a discussion over which ORM I should use.

    Hello everyone. I started to feel a little bit confused recently about my career path as software developer, about what I do, what I know and do I need it. I am 21 years now and I have 3 years of experience. I've been dealing with java/C++ projects, Servlet/JSP/JSF, desktop QT, also some mobile development (Symbian, Android) I work for a quite a small company, around 20 developers with different projects. I'm also a student. The problem is that I'm not sure if I'm taking the right road here. I'm starting to work with new technology every few months. I don't have deep understanding in any of these and I'm not sure if this is what I need. I will probably not become an expert in any of these. The other path is maybe to start working for a big company which use one set of technologies and become an expert. What's your opinion on this topic ? What is more valuable ?

  • Technology focussed solutions for Financial Services

    Just finished a short trip to London, where I presented our 3 new technology solutions for Financial Services to the Oracle Client Advisors for the top accounts in EMEA. The solutions were well received by all, with opportunities for all 3 in all the top accounts. The solutions that we are focused on this FY are - Large Scale Data Management platform - Extreme Java platform - Banking Modernization platform, which includes Payments Consolidation (Wholesale and Retail), Core Banking Modernization and Mainframe Offload. My team's responsibility is to build the resilient platform that our financial customers can run their applications on. If they chose Oracle's applications such as Flexcube or Reveleus, we have done the hard work to tightly integrate these applications with our LSDM and BM platforms. If however a customer decides to run a competitive application, they should rest assured that we have done the best possible integration work with those applications too. And in the case of Capital Markets where Oracle does not have trading or risk assets, our LSDM and EJP solutions work with our partner applications such as GoldenSource, PolarLake, Calypso to name a few.  I will detail these solutions in subsequent posts.

  • Most suited technology for browser games?

    I was thinking about making a 2D MMO which I would in the long run support on various plattforms like desktop, mac, browser, android and ios. The server will be c++/linux based and the first client would go in the browser. So I have done some research and found that webgl and flash 11 support hardware accelerated rendering, I saw some other things like normal HTML5 painting. So my question is, which technology should I use for such a project? My main goal would be that the users have a hassle free experience using what there hardware can give them with hardware acceleration. And the client should work on the most basic out-of-the-box pc's that any casual pc or mac user has. And another criteria would be that it should be developer friendly. I've messed with webgl abit for example and that would require writing a engine from scratch - which is acceptable but not preferred. Also, in case of non-actionscript, which kind language is most prefered in terms of speed and flexability. I'm not to fond of javascript due to the garbage collector but have learned to work around it. Thank you for you time.

Specifically, we have withdrawn from new sales the product known as JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Technology Foundation ("Blue Stack"). Our motivation for this change is simply to streamline licensing for our customers. Going forward, customers will license Oracle products from Oracle and IBM products from IBM. Customers who are currently licensed for Technology Foundation will continue to receive support--unchanged--through September 30, 2016. This announcement affects how customers license these IBM products; it does not affect Oracle's certification roadmap for IBM products with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. Customers who are currently running their JD Edwards EnterpriseOne infrastructure using IBM platform components can continue to do so regardless of whether they license these components via Technology Foundation or directly from IBM. New customers choosing to run JD Edwards EnterpriseOne on IBM technology should license JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Core Tools from Oracle while licensing Infrastructure and any licenses of IBM products from IBM. Objective: This article will give a basic introduction on: How to handle Exception at service side? How to use Fault contract at Service side? How to handle Service Exception at client side? A Few Points about Exception at Service Exception is technology-specific. Exception should not be shared beyond service boundary. Since Exception is technology-specific, it cannot be propagated to other clients. Exception is of many types. CLR Exception Windows32 Exception Runtime Exception at service C++ Exception Exception is very much native to the technology in which service is made. Exception must be converted from technology-specific information to natural information that can be communicated to the client. SOAP Fault FaultException<T> Service should throw FaultException<T>, instead of the usual CLR exception. FaultException<T> is a specialization of Fault Exception. Any client that programs against FaultException can handle the Exception thrown by FaultException<T>. The type parameter T conveys the error detail.     If you live in South Africa, you know about Vodacom. Vodacom is one of the dominant mobile communication companies in South Africa, and beyond, providing voice, messaging, data, and similar mobile services. Inside Vodacom there's an application named Helios, which is a call centre application that had its inception in 2009 and consists of two parts. Firstly, a web-based front-end that allows a call centre agent to service subscribers using a Google-like search on a knowledge base structured as a collection of FAQs. The web-based front-end uses plain-old HTML + CSS + a good helping of JQuery and JQueryUI. This is delivered via JSR-168 portlets running on a cluster of IBM Portal 6 servers. In turn, the portlets communicate via RMI with several back-end EJB's containing the business logic. These EJB's are deployed on a cluster of Weblogic Application Servers, version 10.3.6. The second part is a NetBeans Platform application used for maintaining and constructing the knowledge base, i.e., the back-end of the web-based front-end. Helios is also used for a number of other maintenance functions, such as access permissions, user maintenance, and news bulletins. Below, in the web-based front-end, call centre agents can enter search terms and are presented with a number of FAQs from the knowledge base. Upon selecting a FAQ article, the agent is presented with the article text, the process to guide the subscriber, system checks that display information specific to the subscriber, and links to related applications and articles: Below, you can see that applications are searchable and can be accessed using the same web-based front-end as shown above. And, as can be seen below, knowledge base FAQs are maintained using the Helios Maintenance Application, which is the Vodacom application built on the NetBeans Platform: Several thousand call centre agent user accounts are administered using the Helios Maintenance Application. Below the main FAQ page is shown, together with the About dialog: Vodacom is happy with the back-end NetBeans Platform application. However, the front-end stack runs on quite old technology.   • Company Administrators: Stay Alert!

    Some of our customers choose to use the Themes feature to rebrand their Training and Support Center link, and redirect it to an internal support site. If your company does this, we strongly advise that for your employees that have the Administrator role, you maintain a separate theme that keeps the Administrator's Training and Support link pointed to the CRM On Demand Training and Support Center, and not redirect it to an internal support site. Why? The company administrator needs access to the Training and Support Center because it gives them pod-specific application alerts on the Support tab and pod-specific release information on the Release Info tab. If a customer no longer has access to the Training and Support Center URL because they have already rebranded that link, they can contact Customer Care to request it again.

    At software-center.ubuntu.com it says Thank you for downloading your Humble Bundle games from the Ubuntu Software Center Notes: As these games have been recently added to Ubuntu Software Center it might take a minute for them to appear. If you see a "Not found" message, Ubuntu Software Center is working in the background to update the list of available apps. When I click on a link, the software centre opens and it says There isn’t a software package called “swordandsworcery” in your current software sources. I have waited for about 30 minutes now. I have also executed sudo apt-get update & restarted software centre to no avail. Do I keep waiting?
