  • Bonjour for Windows vs. SMB for printer sharing

    My landlord would like to print to her printer connected to her Mac from Windows machines in her house. (I'm unsure of what versions of windows, but I assume Vista or 7.) Looking at these docs from Apple, it sounds like I can set up the share via Bonjour for Windows or SMB. What are the pros and cons of doing it one way or the other? Has anybody who has tried both found one more reliable than the other, or is it pretty much a tossup?

  • PHP 5.3 Not Logging

    I have set error_log = "/var/log/apache2/php_errors.log" and made sure errors were being logged. I have set the file to be owned by the www-data owner and group and even set the permissions to 777. I have confirmed with phpinfo() that the error_log is correctly set, however The logging still only happens in my vhost's apache error log. The following is my php.ini for 5.3.3-7 on Debian Squeeze Apache 2: The top is populated with comments on what I have been interested, or have changed. I have deleted all comments to save space.   • STARTTLS issues with sendmail

    I just switch hosts and now have to configure sendmail with certificates in order to send mail. Is there anyone here that can point me to some solid documentation that is known to work? I'm on CentOS, using sendmail 8.13. I am currently trying to figure out why I am getting "Relaying denied. Proper authentication required". I'd be happy to post my mc file if someone thinks thay can help..

  • How to record a "macro" that saves web pages as PDF in OSX

    I frequently save pages as PDF from Chrome on OSX. The page is apple-P then click the PDF button and the "Save as PDF.." menu item. I always use the pre-filled filename and save in the default directory. Is it possible to save this as an automator script? If that is possible I woulld sure like to add this as a button on Chrome somewhere so I can just "save this for reading later" Thanks for any help.

I would like users to login with their email addresses instead of only with their domain name. I'm looking for a VB Script (or alternate) which will extract the "appointment" titles of each item for the current day and then email the detail to a mail group, in doing so notifying the group with regard to which staff are on leave for the day.   • gmail IMAP on iPhone incorrect message count

    I've got gmail account set up to support IMAP and it works great with Apple Mail, but on the iPhone it shows "Inbox (2)" constantly, even though there's no unread messages. I cannot figure out why. Logged into gmail to see if there were any unread under any labels or boxes, but there is nothing. Any ideas?

    I'm looking for an email address that can be sent to where the mail will just be deleted without a bounce back. RFC 2606 defines example.com as a fictitious domain for documentation. Is there something similar for email? This will be used in printed documentation, needs to be stable (the domain can't go stale or replaced by an NSFW site), and as generic as possible.

  • Boost Audio Input on OS X?

    I'm using my 13" Mac Book Pro's audio input functionality with an external microphone (recent vintage, bought around Thanksgiving). I've increased my input volume to the maximum in system preference, but the resulting recorded volume (using iShowU HD) is very low. Is there anyway to increase the input volume/sensitivity beyond Apple's default settings? I've found plenty on google about increasing the OUTPUT volume, but I want to increase the input volume.

  • Macbook Pro keeps ejecting anything I put into the internal optical drive

    My hard disk crashed and I need to reinstall Mac OS X. I restart, insert the installation DVD, press c on the keyboard and the dvd ejects. I've tried different DVDs, even CDs. It's a Macbook Pro from march 2008. Is it broken? Or can it be something more severe like the firewire controller on the motherboard (since I noticed this after my hard drive started to act strangely)? I've ran Apple Hardware Test successfully.
