  I'm not referring to CVS or SVN! The thing I would like to do is: I want to have a version number of the application ex. 0.0.120 I want to see this version number only in the About box or similar This version number should change everityme I hit debug or release. ex. my version was 0.0.120, after I hit debug in the FlexBuilder, the versionNumber should change to 0.0.121, but If I press Release Build, then the version should change to 0.1.0 The first number changes only when I manually change it Don't know how is this possible but if you have a tip, let me know.   I've always wondered the best way to automate use of a GUI in windows. When I was about 15, I wrote a little application that used some simple windows api functions to automatically click on certain locations on the screen based on a script. This could be used to automate GUI apps, but surely it's not the best way. So, my question is: What's the best way to automate use of a GUI in windows? Are there certain windows API functions that would be beneficial? If the program were to crash, how could you detect that? Thanks!

What authentication mechanisms HTTP offer & what are their pros and cons? Why should one go for FORMS authentication? How to secure authentication or for that matter any transactions via HTTP? How to maintain state in HTTP? What are the downsides to maintaining state via cookie & what happens when browsers disable them? Security issues like cross site scripting, session hijacking etc. What other questions a web developer should have answers for similar to the ones above that are programming language/web framework agnostic?

• Application crashes when running in iPhone simulator 3.2 (Works fine in simulator 3.0)

  I just upgraded to SDK 3.2. My application runs in Simulator 3.0 in debug mode but when I change the Simulator to run with 3.2 it crashes with EXEC_BAD_ACCESS.   I am trying to recreate the Notes application. So far I got the following: textView = [[UITextView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(25.0, 30.0, 295.0, 214.0)]; textView.delegate = self; textView.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; textView.font = [UIFont fontWithName:@"MarkerFelt-Thin" size:19.0]; [self.view addSubview:textView]; The thing I dont know is how they were able to put the date on top like a header (it is within the UIScrollView that is obvious). Also under every text there is a line where did that came from. Does someone have an idea or a sample project I can take a look at?

  Hi there, I have just joined a team working on an existing Java web app. I have been tasked with creating an automated integration test suite that should run when developers commit to our continuous integration server (TeamCity), which automatically deploys to our staging server - so really the tests will be run against our staging web app server. I have read a lot of stuff about automated integration testing with frameworks like Watir, Selenium and RWebSpec. I have created tests in all of these and while I prefer Watir, I am open to anything. The thing that hasn't become clear to me is how to create an entire test suite for an application, and how to have that suite execute in it's entirety upon execution of some script. I can happily create individual tests of varying complexity, but there is a gap in my knowledge about how to tie everything together into something useful. Does anyone have any advice on how to create a full test suite and have it execute automatically? Thanks!

  A question to maybe some who have worked extensively with WinUSB APIs or use mode USB drivers - Does anyone know if the WinUSB API or a user mode driver can be used as a passive observer of USB connections, capturing notification of interrupts, control requests, data transfers...etc without interfering with other applications (such as iTunes) which would obviously require concurrent access to the device at the same time my application is monitoring the connection and displaying data on it? Or do you pretty much have to write a kernel-mode filter driver and inject yourself in the USB stack in order to make that happen? In the past, there have been a few credible options (libusb-win32 and usbsnoop to be specific) though both are built around the old DDK, not the Windows Driver Foundation, and are not really supported on a regular basis any more. I'm hesitant to build something significant around them, as a result.

  These days I'm working on a VB.NET application which can be used to edit, compile and run C programs. Can someone tell me how I can call a cl.exe process from within my VB program and also that how do I run the program in the console widow itself. Presently I have only the editor ready. With that one can type in a program and save it with a ".c" extension. Now there are 2 buttons on my form - "Compile" and "Run". When the user clicks on the "Compile" button, the program should be passed to the cl.exe process and the errors should be displayed in another textbox or the DOS(black screen itself). And when the user clicks on the "Run" button, the ".exe" file which just got created should get executed.

This is a big concern, as I would like to not have to rewrite the whole thing. Is there a toolkit I can use that makes this cross-platform requirement easier?   Hi, I modified this script from the net, which is suppose to install .exe applications for remote machines: $m = Read-Host "Enter machine name" $File = "c:\temp\office2007sp2-kb958194-fullfile-en-us.exe" $product = [WMICLASS]"\$m\ROOT\CIMV2:win32_Process" $product.Create($File) When I run this script, I have noticed that this program promptly creates a process in the remote machine with the application name office2007sp2-kb958194-fullfile-en-us.exe. This can be checked in the task manager also. But other than that, there is no way to find out if this is getting installed in the remote machine or not. Is there a way to find out, if the installation is really happening? Or does this script actually works? Any help will be great! Reagrds Arindam

I was wondering if this can be used from within a google map application for tracking a user or it needs to be used from within a mobile device? If it can be used from within a web app, what parameters should it use for mcc: mobile country code (decimal) mnc: mobile network code (decimal) lac: locale area code (decimal) cellid: value of the cell id E.g., will it work if we know the cell number of the person(e.g., 281 222 6700)

• Choosing a plotting library for web/browser application

  Hello, I am looking for a plotting/graphing library (mostly to do line plots) for my application. I have been looking at JavaScript APIs (like Google's) but I found them to be slowing down things at client side (I am plotting a quite large number of points). I also found that with client-side libraries, the performance was quite varied depending on the user's computer. With moving to a server-side library I would cut down on this variance, and would have more control over data flow (my data is in a MySQL database). I have then looked at some PHP-based plotting libraries, but a lot of them seem to be "forgotten" (no new version for years). I have been eying pChart, but it has not had an update in almost two years. First, what would you recommend: server-side or client-side approach? Second, what library would you recommend. Paid libraries are definitely an option, as I don't mind paying for quality software that would cut down on my development time. Thanks,

• Tinting iPhone application screen red

  I'm trying to place a red tint on all the screens of my iPhone application. I've experimented on a bitmap and found I get the effect I want by compositing a dark red color onto the screen image using Multiply (kCGBlendModeMultiply). So the question is how to efficiently do this in real time on the iPhone? One dumb way might be to grab a bitmap of the current screen, composite into the bitmap and then write the composited bitmap back to the screen. This seems like it would almost certainly be too slow. In addition, I need some way of knowing when part of the screen has been redrawn so I can update the tinting. I can almost get the effect I want by putting a red, translucent, fullscreen UIView above everything. That tints everything red within further intervention on my part, but the effect is much "muddier" than results from the composite. So do any wizards out there know of some mechanism I can use to automatically composite the red over the app in similar fashion to what the translucent red UIView does?

  In Visual Studio's Attach to Process dialog, one of the columns in the Available Processes list is "Title", which lists the title of the topmost window owned by each process. We spawn multiple instances of several server processes in order to compartmentalize the work. For these console processes, the Title field is blank, so currently we have to look up the process id in our management tool in order to find the correct process. In order to streamline the debugging process, I would love to be able to use the Title field to directly determine which process I want. SetConsoleTitle does not do the trick, nor SetWindowText with a NULL hWnd. To the best of my knowledge, a console application does not intrinsically own any window handles that we could pass to SetWindowText. We don't want to create any visible windows for these server processes. Any suggestions for a reasonable way to trick Visual Studio into displaying some useful information here?

• Do I need to restart my server after editing fstab and mtab?

  I'm just wondering if I need to restart my server after editing fstab and mtab. I changed something in this file manually due to problem with awstats report. I am using ISPConfig 3 with the help of the tutorial from howtoforge. But due to removing/deleting of some account, the configuration of fstab and mtab messed up. I also ask this question at howtoforge forum but until now no one has answered. If you'd like to read my question please visit it here. I tried very hard to fix the problem w/o luck. Update: Here's what happen to my fstab: Before the value was (I omitted the other): /var/log/ispconfig/httpd/mydomain.com /var/www/clients/client1/web1/log none bind,nobootwait 0 0 /var/log/ispconfig/httpd/example.com /var/www/clients/client1/web2/log none bind,nobootwait 0 0 So I changed it to the correct path: /var/log/ispconfig/httpd/mydomain.com /var/www/clients/client1/web2/log none bind,nobootwait 0 0 /var/log/ispconfig/httpd/example.com /var/www/clients/client1/web3/log none bind,nobootwait 0 0 I also found mtab to have the same value as above that's why I edited it manually. from: /var/log/ispconfig/httpd/mydomain.com /var/www/clients/client1/web1/log none rw,bind 0 0 /var/log/ispconfig/httpd/example.com /var/www/clients/client1/web2/log none rw,bind 0 0 to: /var/log/ispconfig/httpd/mydomain.com /var/www/clients/client1/web2/log none rw,bind 0 0 /var/log/ispconfig/httpd/example.com /var/www/clients/client1/web3/log none rw,bind 0 0 I edited those value because the correct path of mydomain.com and example.com should be under web2 and web3 folder respectively. As of now the log of example.com is pointed to: /var/www/clients/client1/web2/log when it should be: /var/www/clients/client1/web3/log So I am thinking that this is because of fstab and mtab. Please guide me how to point the log correctly to it's default directory. I explain the scenario one by one at this link. to dawud: Based on your example mount -o remount,noexec /var, should I run mount -o remount,noexec /var/log/ispconfig/httpd/example.com?

  hey everybody, I came up to something really strange with a facebook iframe application. I don't know why but my global supervariables $_GET and $_POST are empty (nulls actually)! As far as i know, when using iframe for doing applications all the specific facebook variables are kept inside the $_GET variable. But for some reason now I don't have anything. I don't know what might be the problem. And as this wouldn't be enough, when i submit a form using POST as method, my $_POST variable is also null! What you guys think might be the problem? I've spent half a day trying to figure this out, but i didn't get any result.

The base class extends System.Web.UI.Page Furthermore i have a Base User control class where are defined all the properties common to the user controls. the Base User Control extends System.Web.UI.UserControl all the properties in both base classes are protected. All the web pages extends the base class . All the controls extends the base user control class. The problem is i can not access the properties defined in the base class from the user controls and I can not extend two classes in the base user controls The question is how can i access the properties defined in the Base class from within the user controls? It is basically a jobs site with 3 levels: 1) Users - No registration and can view all jobs posted on the website 2) Posters - Need to register and login to post adverts 3) Admin - Need to register and login to post adverts and review postings before they go live Would you suggest I use the same Jobs controller for the three levels I mention above?
