• How to change Sharepoint look and feel like a professional website ?

  I am working on the MOSS 2007 site and looking to do some customisation like professional site. Professional means, at the first glance nobody can say it is a typical sharepoint site. example :https://www.twynhamschool.com/ I know to add the header icons and images in the master page with much afforts but still not sure how to approach to completely change the site face like professional site using CSS and master pages/site layouts. BTW I am using sharepoint designer and very much confused with the programmatic approach to install the master pages as features/solutions. Any good tips and tricks are most welcome on this issue. If some one knows the list of good sites and articles which explain the step by step instructions with examples, please let me know. Thanks

• How can I detect a debugger or other tool that might be analysing my software?

  A very simple situation. I'm working on an application in Delphi 2007 which is often compiled as 'Release' but still runs under a debugger. And occasionally it will run under SilkTest too, for regression testing. While this is quite fun I want to do something special... I want to detect if my application is running within a debugger/regression-tester and if that's the case, I want the application to know which tool is used! (Thus, when the application crashes, I could report this information in it's error report.) Any suggestions, solutions?

  Hi folks, i wish to draw up some database schemas. Eg, table 1 has zero to many rows in table 2, etc. It's purely for visual purposes (eg. no sql code, etc). Are there any online tools / website that offer this?   i have index.pl and subs.pl when i run the program user inserts date of birth and then it is passed to getage() subroutine in subs.pl . subs.pl has many subroutines. getage() than implicitly calls another subroutine called validate() which validates the date entered by user. when i run the index.pl user enters the date as: 03-04-2005 following error comes :can't modify non-lvalue subroutine call at subs.pl line 85, < line 1 and at 85th line of subs.pl i have list(my $val,my @value) = validate($dob); why such error comes any solutions

• Installing Ruby On Rails - Issues with gem (and no RVM)

  I'm having this issue whenever i run "gem install rails": usr/local/lib/ruby/1.9.1/yaml.rb:56:in `<top (required)>': It seems your ruby installation is missing psych (for YAML output). To eliminate this warning, please install libyaml and reinstall your ruby. ERROR: Loading command: install (LoadError) cannot load such file -- zlib ERROR: While executing gem ... (NameError) uninitialized constant Gem::Commands::InstallCommand Ruby and Rubygems were both installed from source. I've installed libyaml from source and from apt-get. I'm running ubuntu 12.04. I am NOT running RVM as far as I know (trying "rvm" returns "bla bla bla not installed apt-get". I'm pretty sure this speaks of 2 separate issues but I need solutions to both. Thanks.

• Would watching a file for changes or redundantly querying that file be more efficient?

  I am wondering whether watching a file/directory for changes using the FileSystemWatcher class is extremely memory intensive. I am developing a desktop application in C# that will be running behind the scenes continuously on low-performance computers, and I need some way of checking to see if various files have changed. I can think of a few solutions: Watch the directories using FileSystemWatcher. Run a timed thread on an interval that goes through and manually checks this. Check manually every time the actionhandler thread runs (the program will occasionally do something, on an action). Any suggestions? Thanks! badPanda

  Hi to all, i am trying to use friendly url for my categories. Example Database cat_id | parent_id | name | url 1 0 cat1 cat1 2 1 cat2 cat2 My approach to do is to pass the parameter cat with url value for example show.php?cat=cat1 and in .htaccess i must rewrite to /cat1 BUT what about when i want to access cat2. I want to rewrite as cat1/cat2 so the parameter is show.php?cat=cat1/cat2 and then parse the value to secure that cat2 belong to cat1. And so on. I am not using MVC so i have to do it on my own. Please if any other solutions is better please advice or suggest me reading Thank in advance.

  part of the specification of this desktop application is to have a mini browser built in, so that you can enter URL, and navigate the site as you would on a normal browser. Access to the browser page's DOM is required, should let me programmatically change the rendering view of a page, should be cross-platform, renders javascript JDIC seems outdated and I've heard Mozswing doesn't run on Mac.... Jxbrowser license costs a grand and up. Is Java the wrong platform to be creating such app? Are there any other solutions out there for building an application like this ? Thank you.

  I am working on an online portal, where researchers can upload their research papers. One requirement is, that all PDFs are stored in PDF/A-format. As I can't rely on the users to generate PDF/A conforming documents, I need a tool to check and convert standard PDFs into PDF/A format. What is the best tool you know of? Price Quality Speed Available APIs Open-source tools would be prefered, but a search revealed none. iText can create PDF/a, but converting isn't easy to do, as you have to read every page and copy it to a new document, losing all bookmarks and annotations in this process. (At least as far as I know, if you know of an easy solution, let me know). APIs should be available for either PHP, Java or a command-line-tool should be provided. Please do not list either GUI-only or Online-only solutions.

We are moving to VS2010 now. We do not have MSDN licenses for our company right now. We are looking to buy just the VS2010 no MSDN. It is very pricey to get 6 of VS2010 premium. We need to get our database into source control. We are currently email scripts around, and it very difficult to keep track off. Are there any non-microsoft solutions that would be the same features and be free?

• Maths: Determining angle in 3D space

  I hope this is the proper location to ask this question which is the same as this one, but expressed as pure math instead of graphically (at least I hope I translated the problem to math correctly). Considering: two vectors that are orthogonal: Up (ux, uy, uz) and Look (lx, ly, lz) a plane P which is perpendicular to Look (hence including Up) Y1 which is the projection of Y (vertical axis) along Look onto P Question: what is the value of the angle between Y1 and Up? As mathematicians will agree, this is a very basic question, but I've been scratching my head on walls now for at least two weeks without being able to visualize the solution... maybe now too old for finding solutions to school exercises. I'm looking for the scalar trigonometric solution, not a solution using a matrix. Thanks.

• Office Interop addins installer?

  I have three C# Solutions in Visual Stuido 2008, one each for Word, Excel and PowerPoint using interop to hook various events. In each Solution, I have exactly one class, the one created by default when using File - New - Project - Visual C# - Office - 2007. Now that I have my addins working properly, it's time to create an installer. I understand that I may also have to distribute the PIAs. I would like my installer to register itself such that it can be uninstalled via the normal Add/Remove Programs mechanism. My organization is somewhat standardized around WiX for creating installers, but I'm open to any suggestions. How do I produce an MSI or EXE capable of installing my addins? GUI/wizard for the installer is not necessary. I'm happy to RTFM - so far all the tutorials I've found only explain how to create the project and do some of the coding. Maybe I'm using the wrong search terms? Thanks in advance for any help!

• How to get or own your own IP address?

  The website we running let people register their own URL and redirect to our website to their user account. Lets it is something similar to Blogspot.com where users can have their own URL. The problem is that in order to do this we need to have static IP address for the DNS redirection to work. We can easily get static IP addresses from most hosting companies, but if we change our hosting company it means we will have to force all our users to change their DNS setting to our new IP address. This if very problematic. Is there a way of owning our own IP address that we can take it with us to wherever hosting company we decide to go with? Or there there other easier solutions out there?

  I am working with a team that works on a very large software project, we have tons of Documentation that is written in MS WORD format with nohyperlinked indexes, no search ability. Everyday we waste our time trying to find the exact document or reference. I was thinking if there was way or even a professional tool that would convert all this into a wiki format and maybe with a little manual (painful) help be organised into something that improves the accessibility. I use Google Desktop Search to make my life a little easier but its not the best solution I just want to know if any of you faced similar problems and possible solutions to this issue.

So suppose that we have 2 Actions ActionA and get_menu Action The jsp page for the result of ActionA calls get_menu to generate the menus. So suppose that ActionA sets a variable groups and get_menu also uses a groups variable... ActionA's variable will overtake get_menu's variable. I tried many solutions and even jsp:inculde doesnt help:(...

• Executing <script> elements inserted with .innerHTML

  I've got a script that inserts some content into an element using innerHTML. The content could for example be: <script type="text/javascript">alert('test');</script> <strong>test</strong> Problem is that the code inside the <script> tag doesn't get executed. I googled it a bit but there were no apparent solutions. If I inserted the content using jQuery $(element).append(content);the script parts got eval'd before being injected into the DOM. Has anyone got a snippet of code that executes all the <script> elements? The jQuery code was a bit complex so I couldn't really figure out how it was done.

• UITableView via NSFetchedResultsControllerDelegate, select first record by default?

  I have a UITableView that gets populated from CoreData via a controller that implements NSFetchedResultsControllerDelegate. How can I have it automatically select the first row (and fire the tableView:didSelectRowAtIndexPath message)? The tableview is used for a variety of predicate queries, so I'm suspicious of solutions that work on the UIViewController lifecycle (viewDidLoad, etc), but I'm new to the platform, so I'm open. I've tried a variety of things, but I'm not sure where in the call stack to put it. I've tried calling cell.selected = true inside tableView:cellForRowAtIndex: method, but that just ends up turning the cell black (and doesn't fire the selected callback method) A tagent question, with all the delegating and core data protocols, does it imply asynchronous data fetch (multiple threads)? Or is the NSFetchedResultsController calling all its related methods in the same thread? Maybe I'm just scared that if it is async, there would be race conditions that would be tough to troubleshoot later.

• How can I programmatically find the IP address/netmask/gateway configured for a specific network dev

  Hi I would like to write a piece of code which checks, for each network device (e.g. eth0, lo, master devices) some statistics and configuration data about that device. I could find the statistics data (and most of the configuration data) in /sys/class/net/..., however, I couldn't find any C/C++ API or any entry in procfs/sysfs listing the inet addr, netmask and gateway. Some alternatives I checked: parsing the output from ifconfig/route/some other utilities: I don't want to start a subprocess every time I need to do the inspection. parsing /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/: will give me only the start-up configuration, and not the current state. Also, since this code is intended for a product in my workplace, where every external library is inspected thoroughly (meaning it will take me forever to add any external library) I prefer solutions which rely on Linux native API and not external libraries. • Mysql adapter for Zend_Translate

  Hi everybody, I'm currently in the planning phase of a rather large project that I'll develop in the Zend Framework. One of the problems I'm facing is that the customers will want to translate not only the content but also the interface. I'm currently using gettext and poedit to manage my language files but this is not an option for the customer as they, for one, want have FTP access to the site. Hence, I'm thinking of a mysql back end with an interface in the front end for the customer to manage his own translations of the interface. There is however still no mysql adapater for Zend_Translate. So, does anybody now of an adapter script for Zend_Translate so it can work with a mysql table? Or any arguments against using mysql and possible other solutions for this problem?

• Excluding standard directories from code coverage results with C++/CLI

  I have a Visual Studio 2010 .NET 4 solution with C# projects and a C++/CLI project. I use Visual Studio's built in unit tests and code coverage. Other than the fact that Visual Studio 2010 coverage tool for C++/CLI projects seems to be much weaker than Visual Studio 2008 coverage tool, I get weird results. For example, I get uncovered code in this file: c:\program files (x86)\microsoft visual studio 10.0\vc\include\xstring And some other files in that directory. I want to exclude this code from coverage results. Is there a way to put some exclude attributes on that code? If not, is there a different automatic way to exclude that code from coverage? If not, is there a way to use EXCLUDE option to exclude it? Can it be done automatically within Visual Studio without running the coverage tool from command prompt? Any other solutions?

  How should I store an Java Enum in JavaDB? Should I try to map the enums to SMALLINT and keep the values in source code only? The embedded database is only used by a single application. Or should I just store the values as DECIMAL? None of these solutions feels good/robust for me. Is there any better alternatives? • Using emacs across many hosts

  On a daily basis I: use multiple workstations running either Linux, Windows, or MacOS X edit files on additional Linux hosts that are not any of the workstations mentioned above The only common element here is that the internet connects all of these hosts: workstations and servers. I can keep all of the config files in sync on my workstations too and can run an X server on all of them. What's the right way of running emacs? I don't want to sacrifice any features. In my ideal world I can type 'emacs foo.txt' on a remote host and some magic happens via X forwarding to display the file in my workstation's existing emacs session. Non-solutions tramp: when I'm manipulating a remote host an editor is just part of my workflow. I need a terminal open so I can run other commands quickly. tramp is all wrong for this. ncurses emacs: sucks, I want the graphical kind If you don't have a positive answer to my question, please don't just guess.   I have looked through a number of solutions to emulating "Group concat" functionality in SQL Server. I wanted to make a more human readable solution though and I can't work out how to do it. I have a view: ParentID | ChildName Which contains the records, for example: 1 | Max 1 | Jessie 2 | Steven 2 | Lucy 2 | Jake 3 | Mark I want to "Group Concat" these to get: 1 | Max and Jessie 2 | Steven, Lucy and Jake 3 | Mark So If there is only 1 child, just return name, if there are more than one, concat the last 2 with an ' and ' and all others with a ', '. I am a bit stuck on how to do this without resorting to CLR, which I don't want to do. I am happy with a function - but speed is an issue and how do I determine the child number so I can choose between ' and ', ', ' or ''?
