• VSLauncher starts wrong version

  I have 3 versions of Visual Studio installed, and 3 projects that require a specific version. VSLauncher USED to look at the SLN or VCPROJ file and open the correct version of Visual Studio. Now it only starts the most recent version, regardless of the project. Note that this has nothing to do with the commonly reported problem with beta versions of VS. none of the SLNs have ever been touched by a beta VS.

• Diff Algorithm

  I've been looking like crazy for an explanation of a diff algorithm that works and is efficient. The closest I got is this link to RFC 3284 (from several Eric Sink blog posts), which describes in perfectly understandable terms the data format in which the diff results are stored. However, it has no mention whatsoever as to how a program would reach these results while doing a diff. I'm trying to research this out of personal curiosity, because I'm sure there must be tradeoffs when implementing a diff algorithm, which are pretty clear sometimes when you look at diffs and wonder "why did the diff program chose this as a change instead of that?"... Does anyone know where I can find a description of an efficient algorithm that'd end up outputting VCDIFF? By the way, if you happen to find a description of the actual algorithm used by SourceGear's DiffMerge, that'd be even better. NOTE: longest common subsequence doesn't seem to be the algorithm used by VCDIFF, it looks like they're doing something smarter, given the data format they use. Thanks!

• JEDI controls always recompile

  I've just noticed that whenever I do an incremental compile (ctrl-F9) of any of my Delphi 2010 projects, all JEDI units referenced in my project are recompiling although they have not been changed in any way. In fact, if I create a new project, drop a JEDI control on the form and compile, I see all JEDI dependencies getting recompiled. If I think hit ctrl-F9 a second time without making any changes in my project, the same thing happens. Anyone know what's causing this?

• Using MobileMe idisk as a git repository

  I am trying to use git and MobileMe as a version control system for a personal project I am working across several computers. So far i have done the following. Created and empty bare repository on my local computer $ mkdir myproject.git $ cd myproject.git $ git init --bare $ git update-server-info I then copied the myproject.git directory to the mobile me disk, and sync my computer with mobile me. I then switched to the directory where my project was on my local machine, set the remote origin and try to push the local repository to mobile me $ cd myproject $ git remote add origin https://<username>@idisk.me.com/<username>/myproject.git/ $ git push --all Im am then asked for my password twice. The first time is the mobile me password, any other password gets an error. After entering the second password, and believe me i've tried everything, terminal just hangs. So what am I doing wrong?   Hi guys! so as title says, I would like to hear your advices what are the most important questions to consider and ask end-users before designing database for their application. We are to make database-oriented app, with special attenion to pay on db security (access control, encryption, integrity, backups)... Database will also keep some personal information about people, which is considered sensitive by law regulations, so security must be good. I worked on school projects with databases, but this is first time working "in real world", where this db security has real implications. • Add Icon to Visual Studio 2008-Built Class Lib DLL?

  I have a .ico that I want to add to several class library DLL projects, using Visual Studio Pro 2008. For each project, I added the ico, set the built type to 'embedded resource' and set the icon in the project prefs page. Still the icon is the default. What did I miss? Thanks.

I'd like to move to a more structured approach, so I have two options: Use custom SectionHandlers in the app.config Scrap app.config and use XAML instead.   After a week of asp.net mvc2, I still haven’t understood the advantages of ViewData.model or rather how I can properly utilize Viewdata. Can some teach me how to use Viewdata properly? Also what’s TModel that’s associated with viewdata? How does one utilize TModel? The viewdata explanation in spark view engine talks about TModel and I couldn’t get a clue of how I can use it in my projects. Can someone help me?

• How to get NHProf reports in TeamCity running MSBUILD

• Need to change the default browser for an MVC2 project

  I just created my first MVC2 project using the standard template. I need to be able to change the default browser for my project to test in IE (I use chrome as the default on my OS). Unfortunately, the "right click on default.aspx" suggestion which worked in MVC1 can't work with these new projects as they don't have that file. I'm sure I'm overlooking something simple... Thanks.

• Setting up Eloquent relationships in Laravel for existing InnoDB relationships

  I have an initial migration that sets up two tables (users and projects), with a relationship (innoDB). $table->foreign('user_id')->references('id')->on('users'); I have two Eloquent models set up, blank except for the relationship: return $this->has_many('Project'); Do i definitely need to tell eloquent about the relationship in the models and the database? I'd assumed something as comprehensive as Laravel would infer it from the Schema? Is there something I'm missing?

• Is there any way to find unreferenced code in Flex Builder?

  We've got several Flex projects, one of which has just been refactored. I'm wondering if there's an easy way to tell which classes and functions (if any) aren't being used any more? I've discovered that we've definitely got some unused code, because running ASDoc on the entire project reports some compilation errors which don't get reported by Flex Builder (implying that those classes aren't being used any more). I'm hoping to find a more robust and complete method, and preferably one which can work at function level too.

• Identifier for win64 configuration in Qmake

  Is there a "win64" identifier in Qmake project files? Qt Qmake advanced documentation does not mention other than unix / macx / win32. So far I've tried using: win32:message("using win32") win64:message("using win64") amd64:message("using amd64") The result is always "using win32". Must I use a separate project-file for x32 and x64 projects, so they would compile against correct libraries? Is there any other way to identify between 32-bit and 64-bit environments?

• Is it viable and necessary to encrypt bytes?

  We have a requirement from customer that if someone gets access to the database, all data that includes personal information should be encrypted, so that when they do select calls, they shouldn't be able to see anything in clear text. Now this isn't any problem for Strings, but what about bytearrays? (that can potentially be quite huge (several 100mb)) When you do a select call, you get gibberish anyways. Is it possible for a hacker to somehow read the bytes and get the sensitive information without knowing how the structure of the object it is mapped against is? Because if that is the case, then I guess we should encrypt those bytes, even if they can potentially be quite huge. (I am guessing adding encryption will make them even bigger)

• Access / Excel crossover: Should i attach spreadsheets to records

  Hi, I currently have an archaic system of client records that I am trying to improve. For each client i have a directory, in that directory i include a directory for each job. Each job has a spreadsheet that i use to store their personal details, and run calculations and costings specific to their needs. In turn I also have word documents that are linked to their spreadsheet which automatically update accordingly. The spreadsheet is also exported as a pdf as well I am trying to build a database of customer records in Access, straight forward enough. For each new customer i need to be able to add the appropriate spreadsheet to their records, update the spreadsheet accordingly with their details, use the spreadsheet to calculate their costings etc.. I do not want to enter the same information repeatedly, and would like a cohesive system, with data being passed between access and excel. Should this be easy enough to do with the two packages? • Tags/Documentation with SVN Project in Eclipse?

  I've searched around with this and haven't found any clear answers. I'm using Eclipse PDT. It seems that if I create a PHP Project, tags work (@todo, etc). However, if I create a project from SVN (still PHP based), tags don't work at all. Does anyone know how to make tags and doc generation work on a per project basis and still import projects from a SVN repo?

• Pyjamas + Django: project without any external libraries

I tried googling for some solution on how to merge those two, but I found only projects using some external libraries using json services. Could anyone give me some advice on how to build such project so I wouldn't have to use them? I would like to use django auth system, but I don't know how to build it all without django templates and rendering.
