    What is the worst hack you've ever written? This is different from What is the worst code you've ever written?, because that, as I understand it, revolves around code later called worst because of ignorance. hack: code written, knowing it is horrible code, for the sake of convenience, deadlines, working around another broken system or bug, etc., but not ignorance. If you want, you can describe your co-workers' reaction, how bad your hospital bill was after showing them the code, if you felt disappointed in yourself for coming up with it or proud of yourself for coming up with a creative and clever solution. This doesn't have to be shipped code, this could also be code written for personal purposes.

  • Error: Cannot find .net assembly during FxCop analysis

    I'm running FxCop from MSBuild and during the analysis it throws an error stating that it could not find the System.XML assembly and that I need to specify the location using the /directory parameter, which I then did but it didn't work. Any idea what I should do? I am running it on projects built on .Net 4.0

By ex, in a form.designer. .cs private Label Label1; .vb Friend WithEvents Label1 as Label; For WithEvents is more or less clear(for using Handles, apparently). But why Friend in VB and private in C#... Thanks.

Currently, we are rolling our own user, groups, permissions, etc. code and supporting database. I'd like to find something like ASP.NET membership that can help manage user authentication and authorization, rather than risk security issues in continuing to create an increasingly complicated custom solution. Are there any similar projects out there worth taking a look at?

  • Visual Studio Missing Warnings

    Anyone find where when you open a certain solution (that contains multiple projects) and compile that you're not seen some warnings that your collegues see when compiling the exact same solution at the exact same state? The code is the same. I depend highly on the warnings as a shortcut to find unused methods, etc. But I get nothing during compile.. only a couple based on references to user controls, etc.

Bu when I look for the specific name or any key word that present in contact list it shows message : No results matching your search were found. Check your spelling. Are the words in your query spelled correctly? Try using synonyms. Maybe what you're looking for uses slightly different words. Make your search more general. Try more general terms in place of specific ones. Try your search in a different scope. Different scopes can have different results. Where is, I am giving proper inputs by following these instructions. What should be problem. Is i nees to make any setting for make my data searchable ?

    Duplicate: Where can I find free WPF controls and control templates? I am looking for some recommendations on good places to find libraries of controls/templates/styles for WPF. I know about the usual places like Infragistics, but it seems to me that there should be some kind of community effort by now to share nice, clean, well written controls for WPF controls. I am not big on the design side, and it would be nice to fill out my personal libraries with some nice examples from people who are better at design. Any ideas/recommendations?

    I am connecting to a web service to get some data back out as xml. I can also save the xml as an xml file like so; TextWriter writer = new StreamWriter(@"C:\Projects\TrainingSkills.xml"); writer.WriteLine(webdata); writer.Close(); Now I can load the file as an XDocument to perform queries on it like this; var data = XDocument.Load(@"C:\Projects\TrainingSkills.xml"); What my problem is that I don't want to save the file and then load it back again. When I try to load directly from the stream I get an exception, Illegal characters in path. I don't know what is going on, if I can load the same xml as a text file why can't I load it as a stream.   • Decoding a GIF question

    For a personal project I'm creating a static gif decoder. Everything works well so far, except I'm having trouble understanding one concept from the specification: This block is REQUIRED for an image. Exactly one Image Descriptor must be present per image in the Data Stream. An unlimited number of images may be present per Data Stream. (Spec) Unlimited images per data stream? There can be more than 1? I'm assuming they don't mean an animated GIF because in the same specification they state, that they don't recommend gif's be used for animation. I've read a lot of other sites documenting the gif format and they all state something similar. Heres another link: There might be an unlimited number of images present in a GIF. Any ideas?

  • VS2010 - RiaServices - A project with that name is already opened in the solution

    Hello, The problem started after installing RiaServices Toolkit Dec 2010. If I unload the project and reload it again, I get this message, even on an empty Silverlight project (no changes made to the project file). "error : A project with that name is already opened in the solution." The solution has only 2 projects: the host (web) and the silverlight one. Any help is appreciated :) UPDATE: It only happens if I give the Silverlight project the same name as the solution.

  • How to compare sqlite TIMESTAMP values

    I have an Sqlite database in which I want to select rows of which the value in a TIMESTAMP column is before a certain date. I would think this to be simple but I can't get it done. I have tried this: SELECT * FROM logged_event WHERE logged_event.CREATED_AT < '2010-05-28 16:20:55' and various variations on it, like with the date functions. I've read http://sqlite.org/lang_datefunc.html and http://www.sqlite.org/datatypes.html and I would expect that the column would be a numeric type, and that the comparison would be done on the unix timestamp value. Apparantly not. Anyone who can help? If it matters, I'm trying this out in Sqlite Expert Personal.

    I see that Hibernate home page has a symbol informing that it implements JSR 317, but I couldn't find if it implements the full spec. Does anybody knows if Hibernate 3.5.0-CR-2 fully implements the JSR 317? I can see from their JIRA that everything is closed related to JPA 2.0: http://opensource.atlassian.com/projects/hibernate/browse/HHH-4190?subTaskView=all Anyone has experienced using JPA2.0 with Hibernate? Does it implement the full spec?

  • UIViewController not oreintating. Methods not called

    Greetings, This question does seem to be an ongoing saga in the world of iphone SDK... so heres my contribution... Had two separate projects from the same template... one semi-works, the other not at all... Please let me explain my steps... used this basic GL ES template //iphonedevelopment.blogspot.com/2008/12/opengl-project-template-for-xcode.html had to sort out some of the 'Release' configuration but otherwises has eveything I need to add orientation to a GL ES project. One my first project, did my stuff, then added these methods.... -(BOOL)shouldAutoRotateToInterfaceOrientation ..... -(void)willRotateToInterfaceOrientation .... -(void)didRotateFromInterfaceOrientation .... -(void)willAnimateRotationToInterfaceOrientation .... And understand what they do (or are trying to do in my case), the (BOOL)should... gets called once when the view controller is created, and returns 'YES'. But after that none of the other methods are called! So I started from scratch with a blank template (GL ES one from above)...and added minimum to support auto rotation. But this time none of the methods get called! So I investigated .... //developer.apple.com/iphone/library/qa/qa2010/qa1688.html as it said, I added the GLViewController.view first, then added the GLview as subviews of the application delegate. Nothing! Then found this //www.iphonedevsdk.com/forum/iphone-sdk-development/44993-how-determine-ipad-launch-orientation.html which states to enable orientation notifications [[UIDevice currentDevice] beginGeneratingDeviceOrientationNotifications]; and then subsequently disable them in the view controller... makes sense...did it, nothing... I think the notifications might be on by default though, since I didn't need to enable them in the first project, yet it still try to verify a orientation (i.e (BOOL)shouldAutoRotate... )... If any one could help me out it would be greatly appreciated as this issue is driving me insane. Thanks in advance.   • How to exclude classes exported for actionscript in AsDoc

    I am trying to use AsDoc on the code of one of my projects in flash. Some of the classes that I use inside the code are "exported for actionscript" classes from my FLA file. Of course the AsDoc compiler complains that those classes are not defined anywhere. Does anyone know how to make it ignore these class types?

    Hi. I am creating a portfolio page for m personal site. I have a slider with a bunch of anchors that relate to projects I have worked on, each one contains a client logo that when clicked should load a html page into a div on the same page. I would like to use JQuery to achieve this my question is which method would I use load() or ajax(). This is not something I have done before so I'm a little confused what the difference is.   • Git on windows :|

    i've been experimenting with git as my personal code rep.. and it has been a bit of a disaster with windows. i've used Subversion, CVS, and Perforce in the past.. none were as annoying to use as git. i've figured out the PGP part (for github), although my workstation no longer lets me check in, and after searching around it turns out that git bash is using putty which is not that reliable and should be configured with something else.. i was not able to configure it with windows shell extension for a nice visual of what is part of the repository, what is modified, and easy check ins, and easy pushes.. has anyone successfully configured some kind of windows shell client and can efficiently and quickly synchronize various machines? It just seems to be more pain to use than it is worth..
